God of All Mercy

1 John 1:5-10

Text: 1 John 1:5-10

A beautiful Saturday to you, dear friends!

As we walk through this season of reflection and repentance together, we want to provide time and space for us as individuals and a community to meditate on God’s Word and bow at His feet in prayer.

Each Saturday during Lent we will read a brief passage of Scripture and a corporate prayer, both carefully chosen for this specific place in our Lenten journey. Sundays will be dedicated to scripture memorization, one of our favorite habits here at She Reads Truth.

We pray you will not only meet with the Savior on these quieter weekend days, but linger there with Him, in prayer and in His Word.

________

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

This is my 1st SRT study as well & I am loving it! As I think about & meditate on today’s Scripture, I looked it up in several different translations and love how The Message puts it, “Change your life, not just your clothes. Come back to God, your God. And here’s why: God is kind and merciful. He takes a deep breath, puts up with a lot, This most patient God, extravagant in love, always ready to cancel catastrophe.” … I know I have disappointed God many times, more than I care to remember, but God keeps calling out to me, as He did to Adam & Eve in the garden, “Where are you?” (Gen 3:9) … HE comes looking for me. HE extended his love across the chasm of guilt and shame and hasn’t stopped. His invitation to return home is still open to us today. I know there are areas in my life that I have shut God out of, but HE is ready, willing and able to change me from the inside to be more like Jesus every day. I’m so glad God gives me a do-over & isn’t finished molding me into His image.

Amen Debbie! When I read your comment on God calling out to us (where are you?) I burst into tears. Thank God for do-overs

This is just beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this!(: God will forever be looking for us, unless we change our ways and be readily available for him!

      Beautiful x

This whole passage talks to me. I long for the fellowship with one another. We travel often and I’m not sure when we will get to be part of a church again, but this study with all these sisters is a true blessing. Just needed to share that and to thank our Lord God for his love in spite of my failures. I am reminded again about what the cost of my salvation was. He loves us that much. I am in awe of his love and mercy.

I love the part of the prayer that says "perfect remission and forgiveness." He does not give us half remission, or forgive us only of a few things. But his forgiveness is PERFECT! It is whole! Thank you, Jesus!

  5. Hannah says:

Lord I ask that you help me to recognize and confess all of my sin and unrighteousness to You and in fellowship with fellow believers. Forgive me for my wretchedness and and wickedness and sinful nature. Do not let me become blind to my sin and in turn be blind to my deep need for You, God. Do not let me make you out to be a liar. Purify me of my sin this Lent, and let me be a light in the darkness.

  6. Anni says:

I like this passage & prayer. I am excited to be on this Lenten journey and to reconnect with Christ. I am a long way from the girl who went to mass every Sunday, but I still pray and communicate with God although I have not been in his house consistently for a while. I am on a mission to become the best version of myself, but I cannot do that without him.

  7. Megan says:

Lord, so many times when I find myself claiming to have fellowship with you, and trying to firmly follow you. And then I find myself sinning against you and walking in the dark. Help me to walk with you in the light Lord. Help me to not lie to myself or others and do my best to walk with you in the light. Amen.
