Day 21

Weekly Truth

from the Lent 2017: You Are Mine reading plan

Isaiah 25:4

BY She Reads Truth

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go.

In our Lenten study of Isaiah, we are memorizing Scripture about God’s calling, judgment, and restoration of His people.

For You have been a stronghold for the poor,
a stronghold for the needy person in his distress,
a refuge from the rain, a shade from the heat.
– Isaiah 25:4a

Write this passage down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about Scripture memorization. Will you join us?

Thanks a ton for your time to have decided to put these things together on this website. Janet and I very much treasured your suggestions through your blog on certain things. I understand that you have a number of demands on program and so the fact that an individual like you took just as much time like you did to help viewers just like us via this blog is even extremely loved.

“For You have been…a stronghold for the needy person in his distress…”

Praying today for all of us who may be in distress this Sunday – a day that is filled with fellowship and rest and peace and satisfaction for many, but also a day that can give way to feelings of hollowness and loneliness for those who are without or feel we are lacking in some way. It is my prayer today, in this quiet Sunday late afternoon in which I write, with the hazy and inexplicably somber sunlight peeking through the blinds, that we might all have the courage to actually TAKE that step of allowing our Lord who IS our stronghold, refuge, and shade (and so, so much else) to be those things for us today. Whether we find ourselves this moment in blissful peace or struggle, may we discover true rest in His arms and hope to face a new day and week tomorrow, walking humbly with our Savior.

    Blessings to you all!

We all know of strongholds we have had in our lives. Strongholds of bitterness, unforgiveness, shame, anger, self pity. Oh that we would let go of those strongholds and hold tightly to the One who is strong for our good! Our God is a stronghold wherein we find peace and joy. He is indeed a refuge from the storms of life and a shade from the heat that bears down on us. We are a needy people. He is more than able to meet those needs. We have big problems. He is greater still. We desire respite from the battle. His arms are open wide. Today may we rest in Him who is our refuge. There is comfort and strength waiting for us.

    1. Emily B. says:

I appreciate your comparison between our (negative) strongholds and the (positive) Stronghold we have in Christ! Thanks for sharing that this morning.

    2. Gina Jo says:

Oh how are strongholds can control us if we let them. Have been for the last 5 years since giving my life to Jesus Christ trying to break the negative strongholds that I lived with for over 45 years. I have seen some of the changes that have happened only through my faith in my savior, Jesus Christ, but the strongholds of fear, worthlessness, low esteem have plagued me for so long. Jesus I ask for your help to break these chains and strongholds in my life. I also pray for your strength and courage to face my fears . I believe that you are pressing on my heart to try and mend a broken relationship with my Mum. Please Lord give me the strength to face this fear. I know it won’t be easy, but I know that if you are by my side, I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13 NIV. Ladies please pray that I can face this fear and show that God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

I’d like to encourage you, Gina, to read Live a Praying Life Without Fear, by Jennifer Kennedy Dean. Such a great and extensive study about fear. It is one of the best studies I have done. It has changed my perspective on fear and God’s control over circumstances. I have grown so much with this study.

      5. Churchmouse says:

Praying for you – and for your mum to be tender hearted towards you. Regardless of her reaction, you will be rewarded for acting in obedience to the Father’s leading. Rest in that.

      6. She Reads Truth says:

Praying for you in this. Asking the Lord for strength and courage and peace. Thank you for being brave and sharing this with us. Grateful for you!
