Grace Day

Open Your Bible

Isaiah 56:5

Take this day to catch up on your reading, pray, and rest in the presence of the Lord.

“I will give them, in my house and within my walls,
a memorial and a name
better than sons and daughters.
I will give each of them an everlasting name
that will never be cut off.”
—Isaiah 56:5

Yesterday I had a panic attack over something happening in my life and I didn’t work on the study because I felt I couldn’t give it the attention it deserves. I’m glad I waited and read it today. I’m trying to remind myself amidst my anxiety that God has me

I’ve never seen this verse before!! What struck me us “and a name
BETTER THAN sons and daughters”…What could be BETTER, more intimate than being His child?!?!? I cannot imagine anything deeper!! (Praise be to His Holy name… I’m thankful for my “everlasting name”!!)

Thanks so much SEARCHING for that explanation “It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”…it has always been a mystery to me.

catching up on Thursday and yesterday, thankful to have the Grace day!

Saul’s conversion – I read NKJV which has an additional sentence:
Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”
Goads were sharp sticks or rods used to urge/direct oxen to move. Gotquestions dot org explains that if the oxen kicked, it caused the rod to penetrate more and increased the pain, and their take is that Jesus was telling Paul that rebellion against God was a losing battle. That reminds me of Gamaliel’s statement in chapter 5:39 but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.

This is emphasized and illustrated throughout the Bible – Lord, help me to always remember and seek Your wisdom and path.

thank you LINDA J, MICHELLE, SARAHJOY, VALENTINA, PHOEBE and anyone I may have missed for your podcast suggestions! I don’t have a safe place to walk and I work from home but will keep the walking and car listening in mind for when I have an opportunity. I am going to try listening when my hands are busy with housework and see if that helps! I know I’m missing good stuff . . .

ADRIANNE RICHARDSON – I don’t like to have a lot of tabs open and don’t like to go back and forth if I don’t have to. I copy the references at the top of the page all together and paste them into the search space on biblegateway dot com and choose which Bible version I want. It pulls up all the scripture readings on one page/tab. Sometimes have a problem copying the hyperlinks without activating them, so I start with ‘open your bible’ and highlight that plus the references and then shorten the highlighted area to just the references before I ‘copy’. Sorry for the rambling on my process and there may be an easier way to do it . . . just what I’ve worked out for myself through trial and error.

Good to see you TINA –

Hope everyone has a good weekend, safe travels to Maura & Traci!

An everlasting name – hallelujah! Never to be cut off! We are saved – redeemed for all eternity, what better thought to start our Saturday with!…reading through the comments and at your suggestion @Kelly to @tina – I read the surrounding verses to get the context. ALL who become righteous through faith will be excepted by God – the eunuchs who have no children, the foreigners, and others:the gentiles, all who are gathered to the Lord God will never be cast out! Thank you Lord God that once we are saved, we are forever saved and we are given an everlasting name!
