Day 34

Grace Day

from the Luke reading plan

Isaiah 26:19

BY She Reads Truth

Use this day to pray, rest, and reflect on this week’s reading, giving thanks for the grace that is ours in Christ.

Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust!
For you will be covered with the morning dew,
and the earth will bring out the departed spirits.
Isaiah 26:19

“Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy”! (Isaiah 26:19) Joy in the promise of resurrection. Death gives way to life. Despair brings forth hope.

This is a verse that can not only bring comfort, but still stir up emotions of grief for those we have lost. Tina, I am praying for you right now that even though your grief is so heavy right now, that the Lord will comfort you in knowing the weight can eventually be lightened. Sorrow of the lost will never completely leave us all, because we so tenderly hold onto their living memories. Through this verse though, we can remember them in life and remember that they are shouting for joy as God lifts their bodies from the dust to reside with Him. I am so thankful for a God that understands our human connections and doesn’t allow good-bye to really be good-bye.

It is difficult to accept when a younger person dies. We also lost a young person in our family some years back. However, you have a firm foundation already, for you know that God is in control! “We believe that His children will not be forsaken” (Twila Paris song). And remember that God is Love. I will remember you and all your family in my prayers. I hope this brings you a measure of comfort. God bless.

Today is the memorial service of my dear sister in law who went to be with the Lord on the 25th of Jan at a young age leaving behind to teenaged kids and a young grieving husband along with all of us and the church she pastored. What an appropriate verse! Our hearts are heavy and since it was sudden and unexpected we are unable to understand. However we do know God is in control.
