Grace Day

Open Your Bible

Isaiah 26:19

Use this day to pray, rest, and reflect on this week’s reading, giving thanks for the grace that is ours in Christ.

Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.
Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust!
For you will be covered with the morning dew,
and the earth will bring out the departed spirits.
Isaiah 26:19

    Tina,
I lost my mom 22 years ago. Her name was Tina, and even now tears are in my eyes and my hearts aches to see her face and hear her voice. The verse you posted was the verse my mother’s sister claimed facing the brain cancer surgery that would take her life at 48. It is a powerful verse.C.S. Lewis, after the death of his mother said there would be other joys but none quite the same. I thank God for my mother-not perfect-just always there. Time doesn’t heal but is does cover and once and awhile something will scratch off the cover and the pain will be fresh and real, but as your message today, it reminds me of the great blessing of a mom who God gave me, a God who will sustain and bless, of the love of my sister, and of the hope of eternity with Jesus and with my mom. I will be praying for you today.

When we cannot open our Bibles, when we cannot read the words on the page through all our tears, the Holy Spirit rises up. He rises up and comforts by bringing to our minds the Word we have previously hidden in our hearts. We may not be able to read the Word in our grief but it can come forth from our memory. The Holy Spirit rises up and nudges another to comfort us by sharing the Word with us as we grieve. The Holy Spirit rises up, placing all our tears in sacred bottles, because our tears are holy and precious. The Holy Spirit rises up, crying out to our Father for us when all we can utter is sorrowful groans from the depth of our souls. Dear friends, I do not know who all is crying today. I do not know who all is grieving and I do not know the circumstances. But I do know how tender is the love of our God. How compassionate. How very close. Praying you all would profoundly feel His Presence right now and that you all would draw comfort and strength knowing that He is walking through the dark valley with you. His love is limitless. His resources endless. Lean in and lean on. Our God has broad shoulders and incomparable strength. He won’t leave. He is holding on to you. He will not let go.

Tina, my heart was crushed when my mom passed. Nothing could stop my tears or the physical pain I felt in my heart. Then I read Psalm 34:18 ” The Lord is near the broken-hearted and He saves the crushed in spirit.” How amazing that our God loves us and has hurt the way we have but He is faithful to heal us and save us. My prayers are for you. Rest in Gods arms.

Remember, Tina, how Jesus wept at the tomb of his friend Lazarus. He wept even though he knew that he was about to bring Lazarus back to life. He understands our grief. He weeps with us. I remember how I wept at my mother’s death. Saying goodbye for now is hard and even though we know it is part of God’s plan and we will see them again, it still hurts so much. We weep with you,Tina and pray for God’s loving arms to hold you while you grieve.

Oh, dear Tina, my heart hurts for you. I’m praying that God will continue to comfort you in ways only He can, that His Spirit will continue to whisper His truth and promises to your hurting soul, that in spite of the hollowness you feel, you’ll also feel His loving presence. Be kind and gentle with yourself today and in these coming days, Tina. Love and hugs from chilly Indiana.
