It was surprising to me that for what seemed like most of these, every other generation followed the Lord. And I think it’s interesting that even when these Kings were just sons, they had a calling on their life to follow God even when their fathers didn’t. God places a calling on each of us – it only takes faith and obedience to steer the course God has intended for us.
Lord,
Praise you for your unfaltering love for us. Praise you that from the womb you have a plan for us and gift. Forgive me Lord for not being obedient and thinking as though I have all the answers. I pray Lord that you would continue to work in my heart, in my soul, and in my life as I seek you Lord. I pray that you give me a spirit of discipline and obedience to you Lord. I pray that all the strongholds on me would break away in the powerful name of Jesus. “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

“41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it,”
It saddens me to think of the sadness that He must of felt then, and that feeling I’m sure continues today. So much sin and hatred in this world. I pray that we can continue to be lights in this dark world. Please come quickly Lord!

After reading about Josiah’s response to the word of God and the Passover (torn clothes for his people’s sin and neglect of it), this passage in Luke has so much more weight: Jesus (the very glory of God with us – the tangible presence the Ark of the Covenant represented) riding into the city as our Passover Lamb to once and for all consecrate is! His cleansing of the temple from false religiosity is like these kings’ cleansing of the temple from Baals and false gods.
And in Jesus’ lament for Jerusalem, I hear the very tender words that God was sending them in Chronicles: “The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place.”
Jesus, may I not take your holiness, your words, and your mercy toward me as my Passover Lamb and redeemer for granted! Thank you that You are forever the ultimate Prophet, Priest, and King that leads and serves faithfully and does not go astray!

I love how both sections of scripture line up today. They both are talking about the destruction and rebuilding of the temple, about how they took their eyes off God and closed their ears to prophets and ultimately the Son of God.

2 Chronicles 36:16 “But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy”. God doesn’t tolerate people mocking His Word forever. Might “get away with it” for a season … but judgment is coming.
