Psalm 103:1-22

Text: Psalm 103:1-22

In this 2-week reading plan, we are assuming a posture of thanksgiving before the Lord by meditating on ten Psalms of Gratitude. Rather than provide a written response to each Psalm, we have offered a simple yet meaningful activity designed to help us recall God’s mercies to us and through time. So grab a journal, and let’s create our own songs of thanksgiving to God.

Psalm 103
The Forgiving God
Davidic.

My soul, praise Yahweh,
and all that is within me, praise His holy name.
My soul, praise the Lord,
and do not forget all His benefits.

He forgives all your sin;
He heals all your diseases.
He redeems your life from the Pit;
He crowns you with faithful love and compassion.
He satisfies you with goodness;
your youth is renewed like the eagle.

The Lord executes acts of righteousness
and justice for all the oppressed.
He revealed His ways to Moses,
His deeds to the people of Israel.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger and rich in faithful love.
He will not always accuse us
or be angry forever.
He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve
or repaid us according to our offenses.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His faithful love
toward those who fear Him.
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has He removed
our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
For He knows what we are made of,
remembering that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass—
he blooms like a flower of the field;
when the wind passes over it, it vanishes,
and its place is no longer known.
But from eternity to eternity
the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him,
and His righteousness toward the grandchildren
of those who keep His covenant,
who remember to observe His precepts.
The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
and His kingdom rules over all.

Praise the Lord,
all His angels of great strength,
who do His word,
obedient to His command.
Praise the Lord, all His armies,
His servants who do His will.
Praise the Lord, all His works
in all the places where He rules.
My soul, praise Yahweh!

Hello dear she’s, I hope you are doing well. The spring rain continues for us and it’s somewhat an overcast cold day. It feels nice knowing the heat will be soon making its appearance. Psalm 103 is such a fundamental reminder for me, when I am out of words to pray, or to thank Him, I always return to this wonderful psalm, and give our God the sacrifice of thanksgiving.

    My “digging deeper”of today:
He forgives my pride and stubbornness.
He heals my pain, my bitterness, my misunderstandings and grief.
He redeems the mistakes, the despair and the injustice done to me.
He crowns me with honor, favors and dignity to cover my brokenness and limitations.
He satisfies me with sweet memories and secure promises, a fridge full of food, a lovely garden with beautiful plants to heal and cheer my soul, with kindness from my husband and kids and even strangers. He erased the past memories, fear, doubt and self-condemnation. He is my number one faithful healer and friend.
Lifting our sisters in prayers, MARTHA HIX (for a wonderful family reunion, I love Waco, thanks to Chip and Joanna Gaines, I always wanted to visit their coffee and bakery shop, I hope you have an amazing trip!), HEIDI (grace for so many things you are doing, healing for your daughter, nice vacay ahead), RHONDA J (joy and super natural power, energy as you are His Light in prison and other groups/involvement you’re running), SARAH D (blessings on job and a supernatural joy from within from His Holy Spirit to flow out). KELLY, SEARCHING, MICHELLE: hugs. Missing other she’s who might be doing other plans, though a smaller group promotes more intimacy. Praise God for you all dear sweet and faithful she’s. Be blessed dear sisters.

Was it @Donna Wilcott…that read the series of Lynn Austin’s “Chronicles of the Kings?” It is SO good, I am up to book 5! I will be sad it’s the last book! It really brings you more insight and awareness of that time period and the will of the kings to want to follow their own lead or be Godly men! Just fantastic!!

  11. Cee Gee says:

HEIDI – I will be praying in agreement for Kin! My granddaughter is really “into” gymnastics (she asked recently if we could turn one of the basement rooms into a workout room). She is 8 and this is her 1st year. Excited for Kin!!!
Thanks for your latest suggestions, too. I wad thinking about OMNISCIENCE yesterday and I think I still want to start with that – so many Scriptures to choose from!
Praying for as you requested and for clarity of mind, resourcefulness with time/knowledge, peaceful spirit, and God’s bountiful grace tomorrow and Thursday. May you finish better than you could ask or imagine!

  12. Heidi says:

sorry.. just took up a whole page on here and forgot to mention an ongoing request….

ANYONE who would like to pray for an ongoing prayer request now/through this summer, my lovely 11 year old is wanting to make it onto a competitive gymnastics team this fall but due to injury had to miss team evaluations. Praying that if it is God’s best for her, there will still be a spot open in late July and her skills will be acceptable to make the team. :) I told her she and I would pray continuously and that I would “offer it up to my friends in my online bible-group”… so – her name is Kin. ❤️

  13. Heidi says:

    He heals my ANXIOUS HEART/THOUGHTS.

    He redeems my WASTED TIME;

He crowns me with PEACE, JOY, ACCEPTANCE.

He satisfies me with HIS KINDNESS, MERCY, FAITHFULNESS.

Really needed this psalm today. Really need to remember in my weakness He has me. I am praying over and over for His grace and mercy to bring academic outcomes that are better than what I am expecting at this point. It seems impossible… Literally, this is not just “church talk”, my finishing well will only be a result of His unbelievable grace and mercy in me.
Prayers are absolutely coveted for TIME, clarity of thought, wisdom/understanding of content, miraculous ability to quickly complete projects, elimination of disruption.
A couple of projects/papers have taken significantly longer than expected (as in literal DAYS longer) which has taken time budgeted for OTHER papers/assignments that I thought I had spaced out well. I have three finals tmr/thurs that I haven’t even begun the outlines for. I’m feeling so defeated, then so regretful that I didn’t prioritize things earlier… I’ve always been a “work under pressure” personality and it always works well. But this semester has had more twists and unexpected turns that have just thrown me and my “process” completely off track. I don’t know… “defeated” is the best word to describe how I feel this moment… then regret that part of (I’m aware not ALL of) that is my own defeating of myself. :(

MARTHA HIX- what a gift to get to spend that time with them!! I will be praying safe travels and just a sweet, memorable weekend for everyone! Your daughter and I are similar in age/children ages (w/exception that my youngest is 3… can we say “surprise!”?) They will love it, you will love it – have fun! :)

SEARCHING- thank you. those are NOT just words.. I have not been feeling well (just a digestive-bug) and that combined with staying up extremely late and then up at 6a for kids/life/new day, i’m so exhausted. I fell back asleep after all the kid-drop-off this morning and am getting a late start and feel that anxiety and pressure that there is just.no.way. this will get done. Your prayer was already a concern on my heart before you lifted it – thank you so much, sweet sister… so much.

MICHELLE PATIRE- yes, yes, and yes. I have been saying the same lately!! Thanking Him for already knowing where I struggle and still being there with me/for me. Honestly what I’ve found is that it’s releasing ME from thinking I’m supposed to have it all together. To not make stupid choices sometimes and fail miserably. My heavens, when my OWN GOD KNOWS I don’t – that I CAN’T- and yet I still hold myself to some standard that He has never held me to… it’s a relief for sure.

RHONDA J.- I love hearing you share about the ministry you do with women behind bars. It’s monumental regardless if you see change in front of you or not. You are literally being Jesus to those women who are surrounded by anything BUT him throughout their weeks. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a loved one in prison, but to know someone was taking their time and heart and loving them in a place that sees no love – it would mean everything to me. I pray God continues to enlighten your heart in how/what to share and hear from those precious daughters of His. I heard a speaker/author say once that we stay in our pit because it is comfortable – it’s what we know. We spend years, decades decorating them and making them homey for us. But it’s just like these women you care for – could any of us imagine being in prison, trapped and then one day someone comes in and says “Just talked to the judge – you are free to go! Here is the map to get out, the doors are open, it may be a long walk and you may encounter some rude people along the way, but you are free and no matter they lies they try to tell you, nobody has the right to keep you here anymore” – and the response being “na, I’m good… I just repainted sooooo…. but thanks”. AHHH !!!!!!!!!!! Who would respond that way?! Yet we do with our own personal pits, don’t we?? Choose to stay trapped because we’re too frightened or unbelieving to trust that what God has for us outside is so much more than we could imagine… I pray you have such an amazing encounter tomorrow – you AND those blessed by you!

CEE GEE- what a creative idea!!! If you have a topic in mind and just google “verses about ‘god’s majesty’, ‘characteristics of God’, ‘etc'” you’d be surprised at all that comes up. Maybe that will help. Or just search “psalms about —” and you’ll get good stuff too… Keep us posted what your weekly focus is! So fun!!!!

SARAH D.- praying healing for you… colds/allergies are the worst. Your well enough to have to be responsible but sick enough to feel awful/tired/DONE. Still lifting up interviews and new jobs and fresh starts!!! Maybe devotional time becomes a lunch-time-activity for now…. lol :) :) :)

PAM C- praying your family is holding up and you are all feeling the comfort of your Heavenly Father around you…

  14. Sarah D. says:

Good morning ladies!! Thankful for the Psalms. I would love your prayers as I have been feeling quite stuffy the past week. I think it may be allergies, which I haven’t really had in the past, but it has made me not feel good when I wake up in the morning…and I have been shortening my devotional time. Praying I don’t get more sick and that I can prioritize more time to spend in the Word and also workout before work on some days! It’s a busy week with finishing my class, preparing for my interview, and also a work in person event! Praying for you all as well.

  15. Cee Gee says:

RHONDA J – I think the illustration you used (Amazon) is spot on! If you could lovingly mention how easily we fall into unproductive patterns, etc., and how commitment to God goes beyond the Amazon analogy – that is powerful. Praying for your fresh word for the visit tomorrow. You are an inspiration!

  16. Cee Gee says:

MARTHA HIX – how exciting for you! Prayers for safe travels for you and your family, joy filled moments of celebration, and wonderful times with your family!

  17. Cee Gee says:

HE FORGIVES all of my wrongs: thoughts, words, actions, attitudes.

HE HEALS all my weaknesses: illness, lack of energy, emotional struggles, spiritual needs.

HE REDEEMS me from the eternal penalty for sin – separation from God – and makes it possible to be in heaven forever with Him instead.

HE CROWNS me with His faithful, never ending love and compassion and blows my mind with that truth!

HE SATISFIES me with GOOD food for my natural body, for my spirit, and for my mind and gives me renewed strength in the process.

HEIDI and SEARCHING – thank you for your replies yesterday! I am thinking of making a weekly focus of praise in one area and locate Scriptures to use in each case. A little daunting to think about, but I think it is a worthy challenge. Thanks for your suggestions/insight! ❤

Continued prayers for mental, physical, and spiritual needs as you finish this term, HEIDI.

SARAH D – your interview – prayers for success or at the very least that it will help spread your name and qualifications!

PAM C – remembering you and your family.

  18. Rhonda J. says:

Whatever drives us to God…is good for us.

It certainly doesn’t “feel” good at the time. It feels like a pit, trapped deep down inside and we’re clawing and struggling to get out of the darkness. The despair. How can that be good for us. Well as Christians we know the answer (usually after we are out of the pit), but we see how our growth and dependence on God gave us a closeness we didn’t have before. Others, after they are out of the pit, they seem to forget all about their cries out to Jesus! They quickly go about in their sinful ways as before. Were they really saved, or just a desperation cry? Being part of prison ministry I ponder this a lot. These women in our group come with their bibles, and want God (in the moment). But when I look up their names, they have been arrested numerous times. It is a pattern. God wants to pull us out of the pit..and renew our hearts. To die to ourselves and be made new. It is not about using God as Amazon.com, order up, receive in 2 days, thank you, see you next time I need something. Aren’t we so glad we have a God that we don’t deserve, that he is always there regardless of how little respect we give him. But we have to want sanctification, the growth of spiritual life. Our day to day choices have to have their focus in the Lord. When we get out of jail, we CAN”T go back to our BC life. How can I press upon my ladies the importance of this? I don’t know the answer except for praying for them, that they open their life to Christ, and move toward him even upon their release, and change.

    He FORGIVES my poor choices
    He HEALS my broken spirit
    He REDEEMS my wrongs
    He CROWNS me with goodness
    He SATISFIES me with hope

This is what I want to convey to the ladies tomorrow at jail. God bless us that go and share your goodness, glory, and beauty. May you fill their hearts with gratitude and a new heart to desire to walk with you all the days of their life from here on forward. Whether they go on to prison or are released, let them hold on to you, and see sanctification going forward. I pray this in Jesus name!! amen.

  19. Michelle Patire says:

@Martha Hix- May God bless your time with your family :) enjoy!

This psalm is one of my favorites. What stuck out to me today is that we are here temporarily, yet God remains throughout the generations that come and go. That’s a long time, lol. I have been saying verse 14 a lot recently, when I make a mistake or when I feel God sees me. “He knows my frame; He remembers that I am dust.”
It is kind of nice to admit, “Hey, I’m weak in this area, but God is merciful.” Releases my self dependency to dependency on His mercy.

Love you girls. May God bless your day and help you make healthy choices!

It’s crazy that we are like flowers that just blow away and fade. God is the eternal ruler over us, dust people. It’s just terrible that we still ignore him and push him away, even though he made us and he is our king and Lord

  96. Kate says:

He listens! And that’s amazing to think about! When we sin and disregard God and say “I can do it myself”, we build this wall between us and God. But He is always going to dig you out of the hole you made for yourself as long as you call upon Him for help.

  97. Olivia says:

Refocusing on God and praising Him instead of focusing on my own problems…so needed this morning

  98. Bethany says:

Let Bethany say, “his faithful love endures forever.” Let the house of Carson Norine say, “his faithful love endures forever.” Let those who fear the Lord say, “his faithful love endures forever.” I called to the Lord in my weariness and confusion; he answered me and showed me his wonderful grace. The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The Lord is my helper, therefore, don’t doubt that his plans will bring him glory and will bring me good. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to rely on my own adaptability. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust my friends and family to lead me through.

  99. Gabby says:

This psalm has brought such peace to my heart. I pray that I remember these verses as I begin teaching in two weeks. Satisfy my heart lord with yourself. Don’t allow working out, wedding planning, and other gifts take hold of me.

  100. Ronda says:

clodagh, start your day reading The Word, praying about your day, committing it to Him. Set alarms on your phone to remind you to pray throughout the day. I have 10a 2p and 4p set to help me. Also write on index cards or sticky notes something from your daily devotion or a verse you want to memorize and carry in your pocket or stick on your dashboard in your car or the mirror where you get ready every day. Have scripture as your screen shot on your phone.
When I was your age, a friend and I memorized scripture sharing with each other in notes and conversation what we learned and to this day I know those verses and they pop into my mind as situations arise. Being 58yo it is not so easy to memorize Scripture now so I am so thankful having done so years ago that seem forever imprinted in my mind. God bless you richly and may you be all He created you to be!

  101. Ronda says:

    From ETERNITY TO ETERNITY…
the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him,
and His righteousness toward the grandchildren
of those who keep His covenant,
who remember to observe His precepts. vs17

Oh I love that … How far is eternity to eternity … Our minds can’t comprehend but our hearts can rejoice and be glad in the Promise of it to us and to our children and grandchildren!

What translation of the Psalm is used on the Dig Deeper part of today’s devotion?
I love this translation of one of my favorite of Psalms.

He satisfies me with his presence. Even when he seems silent, I know he’s there.

  103. audrey.eileen says:

He forgives: my apathy towards Him
He heals: the soul wounds that the lies I have believed about Him have made
He redeems: me, just as I am, and takes me as his bride
He crowns me with: glory and honor; in other words, dignity as His bride that I don’t deserve
He satisfies me with: the joy of intimacy with Him just as I am

It’s such a blessing to feel a love like that.

    1. Abigail says:

I know one thing that helped me stay focused on God in high school was keeping in constant prayer. Not just thinking about God when I was at church or about to eat, etc. But I began to learn that God is with me 100% of the time and that means I can worship and talk to Him 100% of the time! I found it really helpful to learn to pray to Him about everything. As I walked into school of pray for a great day and I’d ask Him to use me to influence another student that day. It’s little things like that that I found were really helpful to me in keeping God present every minute of every day. :) hope this helps

He loves us deeper and wider than we could ever imagine! He provides us with the strength to get up, move on, press on, or simply move through the day. He forgives my failings and fortifies me with strength to continue in His will whether I like it or not, and that is a beautiful picture!

  125. Emily Lee says:

    Thank God for his benefits.
Recently, I have felt “left out” within my church home. Old friends are still friends as I moved on too new people in college, but when I’m at my church home I feel forgotten and unappreciated. I’ve overheard people who I use to be around frequently call me weird. I’m never invited to gathering though my little sister will be. This week I have faced it with bitterness and anger. But tonight as I read that he forgives all iniquity, heals my diseases, redeems me from the pit, crowns me with steadfast love and mercy, and satisfies me with good I am strengthened. The lord of the university “works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed” which includes myself. His love for me is vast. He shows me compassion. So bless the lord, o my souls, bless the lord because he knows me, loves me, and appreciates me. He does not leave me out of His fun. He includes me. And he made me. Therefore, I am not weird or forgotten.

And I thank Jesus for that.

    1. Julie says:

I understand! I have an anxiety disorder so this is a common feeling to me! but God is gracious and merciful! I love that this encouraged you! we go through seasons, and God put people in and take people out if our lives, but no matter what we must show his love!

  126. BlessedandFavored says:

  133. Lauren R says:

Reading this Psalm today I couldn’t help but think of Ellie Holcomb’s song “Don’t Forget His Love” (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PoZ4i3820h4) it’s such a beautiful song and great reminder.

  134. I receive! says:

This is so phenomenal, its hard to grasp in lieu of life seemingly being contrary to this, but it is truth,it’s my truth and I want it!love this!!

  135. Lalo says:

This morning I’m reminded of how much the Lord has done for me in my life. How He has brought me out of a deep pit. How his love for me is as high as the heavens above. I’m reminded of the song Something Beautiful. It’s a simple and wonderful praise that God has made something beautiful from my life. It goes, “something beautiful. Something good. All my confusion, He understood. All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife, but He made something beautiful of my life.” Bill Gaithers does a wonderful rendition of this song. http://youtu.be/DMQqSarDf8Y

  136. Jennifer says:

I love this Psalm…might be my favorite!! I always like to highlight the word ALL! And I am constantly reminding myself that it doesn’t say that He forgives some of my sins or that He only heals some of my disease, but His word says He forgives ALL your sin, He heals ALL your diseases! Amen thank you, Lord! You are so worthy of all our praise!

  137. Alexis says:

    He forgives me when I fail;

    He heals my deepest wounds.

  139. Pam B says:

This is a beautiful Psalm celebrating God’s wonderful gifts to us, but all I could really think about was some friends of mine whose marriage is ending and how much I would love for that relationship to be restored. On the one hand I was reading and thanking God for all He has blessed me with; and the other was just wondering how my friends can actually be going through with their current course of action. They very much need to embrace God’s healing and forgiveness and apply it to their marriage. Please pray for God’s healing and restoring hand to be placed on this relationship, and that they will see that they are making a huge mistake by quitting and splitting up.

    1. Andrea says:

      Hi Pam,

I am praying for your friend’s marriage that through. In my quest of making sure that my desire for marriage is pure, I ran upon this link. It is a great read for singles and those married. Feel free to share with your friends…http://www.familyministries.com/marriage_purpose.htm.

  140. Erica Wilson says:

Psalm 103:3-5. When I feel in the blanks for this excersice, I am reminded how his word can be directed towards me/my life everytime if I allow myself to hear and see.

    He forgives all my iniquity;

    He heals all my diseases.

    He redeems my life from the pit;

He crowns me with steadfast love and mercy.

He satisfies me with all good.

  141. Ashley says:

After God restored my relationship with my boyfriend of two years, in still haunted by how I got off God’s will in the past and became stuck in a stronghold of worry and fear. Now it seems that everytime I mess up in this renewed relationship, I’m haunted by what I did. But I trust God and know that He’s blessed me with this beautiful life and the love of my life and that if I just glorify Him and honor Him, then everything will be okay and that He is not here to condemn me! That condemnation comes from someone who wants to steal my peace and steer me off of God’s route for my life

    1. Alexis says:

Thank you for posting this; I needed to see this; going through the same thing!

      1. Ashley says:

I’m so glad that through our brokenness God can heal us and create such a community!! I’ll pray for you to have victory! Remember what Joshua said “Be strong and courageous!” Feed faith, not fear. That’s what I’m learning!

  142. Caroline @ In Due Time says:

Thank you Lord that you are my HEALER! Thank you that you heal ALL my diseases! http://www.in-due-time.com

  143. Abbie says:

Being thankful is so hard for me to do. I can complain over so much, and be thankful for a couple things. I forget what an awesome God I serve who has done so much for me already! So my prayer this morning is “Father, I ask that You will instill in me a thankful attitude. Allow me to just look around me and see all the blessings You have gifted me with. Keep me eyes opened an not close with ungratefulness. Thank YOu for your wonderful blessings of eternal life and knowing that my sins are as far as the east is from the west. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

  144. Ashley says:

I made many poor choices in my college years and those sins have haunted me since. It has been a long and painful journey of working through the shame and guilt to truly believing I am forgiven and redeemed. It kept me awake for an hour in the middle of the night, replaying the sins in my mind, the shame and guilt resurfacing. I knew the enemy was planting those past sins in my mind to push me back in the pit from which I have tried to crawl out of many times. I kept saying to myself “You’re a new creation… Beauty from ashes…” I opened IG this morning and the very first post that showed up was SRT which said “He redeems your life from the pit.” Wow… God knew what I needed to hear and He made sure it was the first thing my eyes saw this morning. Thank you Jesus for loving me, forgiving me, redeeming me.

    1. Ashley says:

I’m pretty sure that God just used that to open my eyes. Same situation, same lack of sleep over fear and feeling haunted, and we even have the same name! Praying for you to have victory!

  145. paula says:

As for man, his days are like grass—
    he blooms like a flower of the field;
when the wind passes over it, it vanishes,
and its place is no longer known.
    But from eternity to eternity
the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him,
and His righteousness toward the grandchildren
of those who keep His covenant,
who remember to observe His precepts.
The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
and His kingdom rules over all.

My children are mostly grown, gone from home or going. Two of the three have fallen away from the faith and often I am tempted to despair. I grieve for them and I am disheartened because those whom the Lord gave me to raise up may not pass on the inheritance of faith to the next generation, as was my heart’s desire. I have been grieving because I have a daughter who adamantly states she will not have children. Another son, if he does marry, has told me he will not marry a Christian, as he himself does not believe. Last year I faced my own mortality with a cancer diagnosis and I understand what it means to bloom and then fade and vanish in the wind. I had so hoped to leave a family that would know and share in God’s goodness for all generations. But from where I stand now, I cannot see this future. It breaks my heart.

Among my set of friends, there is no desire to see grandchildren growing up in the faith. They only want their children to be happy now, to be fulfilled now, to drink deeply from the present pleasures. This is not how I raised my children. But somehow I have failed.

I have wondered at my own “grandparent-ish” feelings, often impossible to put into words, and seemingly so out of step with the sentiment of the age. There is no vision for the future and sometimes it can seem so bleak. Has God removed that future of a Christian heritage from my family? Some days I get very disheartened. Please pray for my family, that His righteousness will be toward the grandchildren that I can no longer imagine.

    1. Laura says:

Praying for you and your family, I know some of the same despair. But I have seen miracles in my family and have seen God at work, He is good.

      1. paula says:

        Thanks for your prayers.

    2. Jessica says:

Have faith I remember my college years when I would stress my mother out and tell her I no longer believed in God and he existed but not enough to dictate my life. If you train a child up the right way to go keep having faith and praying and God will show you that you have no reason to fear, don’t feel disappointed quite yet. It took me a while but because the example of my mother continuing to pray every morning and having a strong Christian framework in our home growing up I have returned to the faith. I not only know he exists but I believe and I know life without Him is an option. Continue to be an example even when it seems hard and one day the actions in your life will bring them home to their Father God once again. As for your friends try making friends that have like minds that will encourage in times like this. We need friends to encourage one another! I will pray for your family, do not be weary He is near and knows your heart sister.

      1. paula says:

Thanks for your prayers and your encouragement. And as to finding likeminded friends, I wanted you to know that I actually was surrounded this very day with love and support from a group of Christian women in a most unexpected time and place. I teach adult English as a Second Language (ESL). Today’s class was much smaller than usual and someone had brought in food in anticipation of the holiday break. So I abandoned the lesson on gerunds and present perfect usage, and we ended up sitting around for two hours, eating and chatting. One woman after another told about God’s faithfulness. I’m sure my boss would have advised me to direct the conversation to “neutral” ground, but I let them talk and I listened. And eventually I told them a little of the struggle that I wrote about on this post earlier in the day. After class was over, they surrounded me in a group hug and promised to pray and reminded me to believe in God’s goodness. I felt so loved and cared for. Most of the women are Hispanic, but one is Chinese. After listening to the other women’s stories, she looked at me and said, “So, this God is real?!” Just so amazed by God’s presence and grateful to be ministered to my these lovely, godly women.

    3. Elisabeth says:

Dear Paula I will keep your family in my prayers. I know that this is the thought of your son now but really who knows what the future will bring. It could be that his future wife who he falls in love with may indeed be a Christian and perhaps because of that makes her someone he wants to be with …. Hard as it is we have to give it to Him. I have 2 teens at this point in my life and we pray together but I know they have doubts and questions. I can only be ready for them and continue to leave my Bible open after my morning devotion and hope to live my life as an example. It’s hard to give up control over our children, hard to leave it in Gods hands…hard to be the light in a world of darkness but continue on we will.

      1. paula says:

Thanks for your prayers and words of hope. I’ve really been blessed with all the kind comments from everyone.

    4. Chandra says:

Paula, I will be praying for you and your family. As a college student I, like your son, fell away from God. I truly believe that the “mustard seed” of faith planted by my mother and consistent prayer of both my Grammy and mom is what led me back to the Lord. Have faith for In Him nothing is impossible :) Hope this helps you.

      With love,
      Chandra

      1. paula says:

Thank you for your kind words and for your prayers.

    5. Bonnie says:

Just one anecdote for why you should not despair… My mother-in-law must have been deeply disappointed when her son married me, a person of no faith who wanted no children. But God had other plans. He pulled me in until I couldn’t deny Him anymore. And then He went and put it on my heart to start a family! We can make all the plans we want, that doesn’t mean He won’t trump them. Keep praying, Momma, and don’t think for a moment that you have failed in this area.

      1. paula says:

Thank you for your encouragement. Yes, I will keep on praying.

  146. Heather (MNmomma) says:

What a powerful reading this morning…..

Ladies, our tiny little town is reeling right now…..could you join me in prayer? So much is happening in the last couple of days: A sweet little 2 year old boy, Trevor, was just diagnosed yesterday with leukemia. His momma has posted a plea to God for her son, asking Him not to take His anger for her sins out on her son. Please join me in praying for Trevor’s momma as well as him and his care team. Also, another sweet little one from our town (9 months old) just took her 4th life flight. She has significant cardiac and respiratory issues. Please pray for Lilly and her family. Also one of my classmates (38yrs old, super healthy, fit) has had a heart attack after surviving a rupture aneurism of his aorta this summer. His wife just gave birth to baby #2. Please pray for Rob and his family. We are a very small town for about 400 people…….we are reeling…..
    Thank you sisters…..

Prayers for all. May they feel Our Savior’s arms around them.

      1. Emily says:

        Praying right now!

  147. Joanna says:

These psalms are like beautiful poems to me. Melodious and soothing, they have been really touching my soul. Today’s resonates me because of the image of God as a father. As a child, I was terrified that if I sinned I would disappoint Him and go to hell. Even now, as an adult, shame and guilt are such strong emotions that can take hold of you and last a very long time. Through loads of work I am beginning to emerge on the other side, and low and behold, there He is! Waiting with loving arms to welcome me back and accepting me for my imperfections. To know in my heart that this beautiful, forgiving man is the one I serve is such a powerful realization to come to. Praise God!

  148. Susan says:

Vs 3-5 speak specifically to me. Forgives, heals, redeems, crowns, satisfies…youth is renewed. Thank you Lord.

  149. Tricia says:

Trying to remember to praise God through everything today. My 18 month old grandson, Colin, is having kidney problems and we will be headed 1-1/2 away today to take him to some pediatric specialists.
Thank you Lord for your presence. Though I scarce can understand it, I’m relying on you Lord.

    1. TGBTG says:

Prayers for safe travels and help for Colin.

  150. Heather Clement says:

One of the things I love the most about God’s Word is that it’s so personal. It is living and active and sharp enough to get right to the heart of the matter. Like a surgeon, sometimes it cuts in order to heal – but our God is masterful with that blade. He uses it to expose sin like a surgeon’s scalpel exposes disease. A surgeon uses the sharpest scalpel to get to the center of disease to expose, cut it, and remove it entirely from the body. There is some cancerous junk in me, and I’m thankful that He uses the Sword of the Spirit to get rid of it. Meditating on Psalm 103 today, verses 3-5…

He forgives all your sin – from the greatest grievance to the least little thing, He has cast our sin away, as far as the east is from the west, and there is no getting it back. It’s done. Forgiven. GONE.

He heals all your diseases – sin makes us sick, but God has provided a way for us to be made whole again through the death and resurrection of His Son – Hallelujah!

He redeems your life from the Pit – I have seen some deep pits in my life. Wells that I thought I might never climb out of… and I didn’t. But He lifted me out with His sovereign hand. What’s more, He doesn’t just bring me out of the pit, He redeems the garbage that put me there. He wastes nothing. I love that! But it goes even deeper than the mud and the muck of this life. There is an even greater pit – the pit of the grave – and being rescued from that? It means everything.

He crowns you with faithful love and compassion – But God doesn’t stop at forgiveness, healing and redemption. He goes on to give us a crown, “studded with gems of grace and lined with the velvet of lovingkindness; it is decked with the jewels of mercy, but made soft for the head to wear by a lining of tenderness.” (Spurgeon) Our God is so extravagant in His love and mercy!

He satisfies you with goodness – Soul satisfaction calls loudly for heart praise.

Your youth is renewed like the eagle – He has made us new. Glory!

    “But from eternity to eternity
the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him,
and His righteousness toward the grandchildren
of those who keep His covenant,
who remember to observe His precepts.”

Isn’t it amazing, according to this verse, how our actions, our lives, walk, talk, everything we do affects so many for so long? I am in the Church today because of a grandmother who wouldn’t give up and now what would have been her great-great-grandchildren are being brought up in Truth! Praying I can continue to show my children and their children the love of God, His mercies and His faithfulness. It does matter for eternity! ♥

    1. Heather (MNmomma) says:

“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.” (v1 NLT)
That really struck me today- all that I am should praise God: my words, my actions, my thoughts, my attitudes… everything should be for his glory, and I should give it all, holding nothing back. This Psalm reminds me of why: God is so worthy of praise- it is the only right response to everything he has done.

    1. Caroline says:

Amen. Your words highlight the crux of all of this. I truly have my work cut out for me but being a partaker of God’s supreme goodness makes all effort worthwhile. Blessings to you this day.

    2. Heather (MNmomma) says:

AMEN!!!!!! Lord, be with me as I move thru my day. Lord I pray that my words, actions, thoughts and attitude reflect You. Let everything I do be for Your glory….shining Your light. AMEN!

  156. Ifi says:

Had forgotten how much I fell in love with this Psalm since my mum made my siblings and I memorise it many years ago. One of my favourites – love how it carefully lists out the various things we ought to be thankful for (I do love lists!). Thank you Lord for everything, in and amongst the craziness of the world, our daily lives, everything….you remain our constant protector, provider, redeemer….bless the Lord, Oh my soul!!

  157. TGBTG says:

22 Praise the Lord, all his works
    everywhere in his dominion.
    Praise the Lord, my soul.

    He forgives my inequities
    He heals my sorrows
He redeems me from my faults
He crowns me with His grace
He satisfies me with His living waters. His unending mercy, and love.
