Weekly Truth

Open Your Bible

1 Timothy 4:7–9

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

Over the course of this study, we will memorize 1 Timothy 4:7b–9. This week, focus on memorizing verse 7 and the first part of verse 8.

Write the passage out by hand, say it aloud, or test your knowledge with a friend!

Train yourself in godliness. For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.

    GM She’s!

    I’ve always loved this verse considering I was in the fitness field since my teens! I basically had a steady routing of training my body consistently for 30 years! When I started reading my Bible daily in 2014, I would often say I wish I would had put as much training into my spiritual life as I had my physical body, for it is so much more beneficial! And now, in my later 50’s, all that work on my body seems to be for naughty! It can go as quickly as deflating a balloon! A few months without working out and you say- where did my toned body go?! It doesn’t matter what you do for your exercise, the skin on the arms and belly fat comes like the grim reaper! lol.
    Yes, it’s good to stay physically active and strong, and eat right. But oh how much more important to be strong, rooted, and growing in Christ. For that is paramount to anything else we achieve. Knowing Him, and training myself with prayer, bible reading, meditation and memorization, and loving him with my heart, soul, and mind…well, life makes sense.
    I watched a show last night that had 3 people talking about NDE’s. Hearing them talk about the life after here was so powerful. Our time here as believers is to share Jesus’ love and point them to Him.

    This looks like a carry on from yesterday. Or is it that we need to start at the beginning? :)
    .
    Keep yourself in training for a godly life… Remember, we never arrive at ‘there’ until that day we see Him face to face..
    Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way… There is Hope in this practice, there is grace in it and it is practiced in love…. Remember, love is patient and kind, love is not ill mannered, nor does it keep a record of wrong, this spiritual practice is eternal..it never gives up.. it is hopefilled, gracious and patient..
    Back to the start of the verse..
    Keep yourself in training for a godly life..
    It is well.
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
    AMEN.

    Happy Sunday, my dears..❤️

    This verse should be a bit easier to memorize! Thankful that we aren’t left in our ‘flabby faith” -KELLY ☺- and that He strengthens us and guides us -HANNAH C ☺ –

    SONG SHARE:
    Sweet Sweet Spirit by Bill and Gloria Gaither (in our Baptist hymnbook- a favorite of mine)
    Partial lyrics:
    There’s a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place,
    And I know that it’s the Spirit of the Lord;
    There are sweet expressions on each face,
    And I know they feel the presence of the Lord.

    Sweet Holy Spirit, Sweet heavenly Dove,
    Stay right here with us, filling us with Your love.
    And for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise;
    Without a doubt we’ll know that we have been revived,
    When we shall leave this place.

    There are blessings you cannot receive
    Till you know Him in His fullness and believe;
    You’re the one to profit when you say,
    “I am going to walk with Jesus all the way.”

    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤

    From the Message:
    “Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever.”
    .
    Spiritual flabbiness – LOL
    .
    Psalm 28:6-7
    “Blessed be the Lord,
    for he has heard the sound of my pleading.

    The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
    Therefore my heart celebrates,
    and I give thanks to him with my song.”

      That’s good, Kelly; thanks for sharing! If my spiritual flabbiness is as unsightly to God and others as my physical flabbiness is to me- Yikes!

      Thanks for the Psalm and the note on yesterday; I just replied! ❤☺❤

    “Train yourself in godliness”, tells me godliness isn’t something that comes naturally. It’s something we have to choose to do and then work at it. It takes time, effort and purposing in our heart to do so. It is so much more profitable than the training of the body.

    Today after the worship service we leave for RI. It’s a rainy, nasty day out, please pray for safety in travel.

    Praying that you all have a blessed Lord’s Day. Happy Sunday She’s! ❤️

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Have a blessed time and safe travels, Sharon! You made it through your commitment to VBS and sharing Jesus with those children! Now, praying those children share their great experience. ❤

  9. Hannah C says:

    Good morning! After rereading this passage from Timothy, I looked up the word training. The word training is actually connected to the idea of guiding growth, and there was a reference made to plants and how they are guided to grow and bend through pruning. We too are training our minds and the training like an athlete is preparing us mentally physically and spiritually. ❤️ Hannah.

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

      ♥️♥️

    2. Cee Gee says:

      Yes, Hannah, like the Father (the Master Gardener) prunes us! Thanks so much for sharing your research! ❤

    3. Rhonda J. says:

      I never thought of it as “training” a plant to grow up right..but I like that! Kinda like a young tree!
