Psalm 118:1-29

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

Each Sunday during this plan, we are reading a different Hallel psalm and memorizing one of its verses.

This week, memorize Psalm 118:14 as you meditate on the psalm as a whole.

as I was sitting in church this morning our pastor said, they were chanting a psalm of ascent on his entry into the city and I immediately thought, oh I hope that’s the one we read today! and it is yay! it’s not lost on me that they were literally singing the stone the builders rejected would become the cornerstone only to do that exact thing in less than a week. may the words not be just a mindless song, but our salvation!

    1. Cee Gee says:

Lanie, thanks for this great share! ❤

MY strength and MY salvation! Love you my Jesus, even when I don’t love myself, YOU do! I have wonderful memories of Palm Sunday as a child where everyone in the church (I was raised Catholic) received palm branches as a reminder of what today is. Happy Palm Sunday sweet She’s!

It is a glorious Palm Sunday morning! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest!!! I love that on Palm Sunday we read Psalm 118:26 which would be the refrain echoed over and over again as Jesus triumphantly came into the holy city Matthew 21:9

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      Yeah, Amen, SO GOOD!
I love The Chosen’s version of them coming into the city!! I will have to watch that episode today!

Psalm 118 is a great Psalm for moving into the text for Palm Sunday.

14 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks. You are my God; I will exalt you.

29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.

Matt 21:8-11 ‘A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

We praise you Father and bless your Holy Name. We exalt and lift your name on high and give you thanks. Hosanna. Amen

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes! Thank you for putting that together for us! So good to read the pairing!

  12. Lindsey Bradley says:

“The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.”

  13. KB says:

What a fitting Hallel for Palm Sunday!

Luke 19:38 repeats Psalm 118:26,”Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” The happy crowd welcomes Jesus into Jerusalem as a king who will save them from their enemies. Yet, Jesus humbly died at the hands of those enemies so that we and His enemies can be saved from our sin.

God’s people had much to praise Him for in the temple and how much more do we have to thank Him for his life, resurrection, power over death and sin? He is the way, the truth and the life. Hallelujah!

    1. Wendy B says:

      Amen ❤️

  18. Rhonda J. says:

Oh if only we could live that every day- The Lord is my strength and my song!
I do most days, but it sure took me a long time to get here. It truly begin to take shape when I began reading the Bible every day. It was quite the struggle that first year from Genesis to Revelation. Then I found SRT after that and meeting with ya’ll to study and glean, share and grow in scripture every morning for a decade has truly been the best.
A true relationship with God replaced my religious upbringing. I did love Jesus and know the judgement of God, and all between, but it just wasn’t my priority, my center. Now…HE is the song of my life. Everything revolves from Him, the one that saved me, loves me, my rock, my cornerstone.
Thank you God, for the plan all along. The one that created the world, is my life song. Let my life song sing to you as Mercyme put in such a great song.
