Acts 2:37–39

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

As we read Acts together, we are memorizing a portion of Peter’s sermon in Acts 2. This week, memorize all of verse 38.

37 When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Acts 2:37 hit deep. Oh God, may our hearts, may MY HEART, be pierced over any actions, thoughts, behaviors, and attitudes that don’t align with You.

Just stopping by to say hello to everyone! I’ve been reading along but haven’t been commenting…the winters in the northeast are very difficult for me. I’m sorry I missed the Google meeting tonight but I’ll look in the fb page for more info on the prayer challenge !

I have been doing 3 other Bible studies with different family/friends in the mornings. I got behind on SRT! I’m all caught up now.
    .
One was about transforming the heart. I don’t know why I have never given my heart attitude the attention it needs. I can read and study all day long, but if I don’t surrender my heart it will just be words. I find I have not “fully” surrendered.

Glad to see you, Traci! Thanks for sharing what you are learning. So true! ❤

    Matthew 28:19-
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

    Point 1:
This was a command issued by Jesus, carried out by Peter and the other apostles. “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” is IMPORTANT here since baptisms were already a practice in their society. Jews baptized Gentiles unto Judaism. That phrase, however, emphasizes their belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Point 2:
It wasn’t the act of baptism that saved them. Baptism was just a symbolic act, important for the furthering of the gospel. Oversimplified here but it’s like our confession before others is our first act of evangelism (go and tell), baptism is our second act of evangelism (being a witness). This old song (below) is beautiful and I always love singing it, but it kind of gives the impression that salvation is the result of baptism. Salvation is the result of God’s grace at our repentance. Baptism is symbolic of our sins being washed away.
    Rambling again…apologies!
SONG SHARE: Whiter than Snow (verses 1 and 4)
    Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole;
I want Thee forever to live in my soul,
    Break down every idol, cast out every foe;
Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
    Refrain:
Whiter than snow, yes, whiter than snow,
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
4 Lord Jesus, Thou seeest I patiently wait,
    Come now, and within me a new heart create;
To those who have sought Thee, Thou never saidst “No,”
Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. [Refrain]

A contemporary favorite (one of my favorite ‘steering wheel slapping’ songs) and it at least mentions ‘amazing grace’ at the end ☺:

    .
This! A promise for me, my children, their children and their children and on and on.
    .
I may not live long enough to see my grand children married, ( I have one 2 yr old and one due in March) but I can pray for them, their future husbands and their future children and grand children – that one day they will all hear the gospel and be saved. I will pray that the Lord will call them, and I will hope. And maybe after many years in heaven, I will see the fruit of my prayers and meet them all there…Oh what a day of rejoicing that will be!!

Have a blessed Worship Sunday She’s – prayed for you all this morning. ❤️

What a great reminder as we go too ooo church this morning! It is not just for us to be consumers but for us to look for ways we can serve and love the new people that come in or where ever we go through out the day, seeing people through God’s eyes!

    Have a blessed day!

Today the final line “as many as the Lord our God will call” is making an impact on me, as we prepare for church’s world missions Sunday. Those of us involved in outreach and spreading the gospel are comforted by recognizing that it’s not on our shoulders! A relief. We will do the work of spreading the word but it is our God who initiates the call and opens the ear of the listener.

    1. Cee Gee says:

As a former outreach leader and currently sister in Christ, I give a HEARTY AMEN to that!

I love that physical baptism is part of our faith. That Jesus himself was baptized and the Holy Spirit landed on him. We too get to symbolize the renewing of the living water life with Jesus! I have a funny story- when my sister and her friend were going up to be baptized in church as preteen age (we did sprinkling of water), I as the younger that followed my sister around and wanted to do as she did, so eagerly went up as well. The problem was the preacher started with me, and when he asked me questions I gave a bewildered look and didn’t answer and he mumbled “we’ll come back to you). And he moved on to my sister. Then the friend. He forgot to come back to me! And I think I didn’t say anything that day! lol. And so..there it was. But when my son was 15 years old, he announced that with baptisms coming up in our church he wanted to do it!! It gave me the perfect opportunity to officially get baptized in the water submerged! My mom had just passed away several months before, and that is when I started reading my Bible daily and God was going to really start doing a work in my life! My Madre and Dad had gotten baptized not to many years before that together. She had been only sprinkled as a baby in the Catholic Religion and was ready to do it for herself! I wish I had a picture of them, we were not present.

Lets not forget that part in the last verse-…”and for all who are far off-” They still are able to come! God is calling them!

    Happy Sunday-

    GM She’s!
With the reading of Acts I have decided we should have a Prayer Challenge this week! I want us to step out of our comfort zones, pray to God for a divine opportunity to pray for someone, and to have the courage to follow through! And for us to be able to share what God will do with our asking on our FB page.
I want to do a short Google meet tonight at 9pm Est. to pray together. I’m not sure if I can share the link here. I will put in the Reply.
But go to our FB- SRT She’s to put your Yes, I’m in! And let me know if you want to join the live Prayer tonight.

    1. Amanda says:

Can you put the link to the page, please?

      1. Rhonda J. says:

SRT SHE’S. And to join you must answer the question tof ARE You on an online study….hat you are from SRT

How can I join the Google meet tonight?

      1. Rhonda J. says:

        b/c I can’t post the link here.

    3. Brandi says:

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Yay Brandi!! I can’t wait to see what we do for His Glory!

  15. Kelly (NEO) says:

Baptism is a beautiful physical reminder of the old, defiled self going down to the grave and the new, redeemed self rising up to new life (Rom. 6:4).
    .
Baptism Sundays are such joyful services at my church…just love them.
    .
Praying you are able to worship with other believers in person today. It is a privilege we often take for granted.
    ❤️

    1. Rhonda J. says:

I agree on both!! Love baptisms Sundays!
And we take for granted for sure being able to meet freely at churches.

    2. Cee Gee says:

Agree! I just love hearing that repeated at baptisms! We have baptisms scheduled, but the ice last weekend and snow this weekend has prevented us from having live church. ❤

    3. Sharon Jesrsey Girl says:

I love the baptisms to! We have one coming up soon – two young adults. It has been cancelled twice due to snow storms, hopefully none in March! What a joy to see their love for Christ and for growing in the word!

      1. searching says:

I love it when I see adults (any age!) getting baptized ❤️❤️❤️
