Hebrews 5:7-9

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

For this plan, we have memorized Hebrews 5:7–9, a passage from this study that summarizes how Jesus is both the firm foundation of our faith and how we are to imitate Jesus’s faith in our own response to God. Now, let’s memorize the whole passage together.

7 During his earthly life, he offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. 9 After he was perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him…
—Hebrews 5:7–9

Maria Baer….I went back to read yesterday’s comments. So sorry about your car, BUT so glad YOU are OK!! AND just like the rest of the she’s, you (we) are human and I think most of us would react the same way. Praying this can be fixed and that thankful YOU are OK.

  6. Mari V says:

Happy Sunday sweeties from sunny and VERY cold morning here of 38 degrees! Feeling under the weather this morning. Lots of students and staff are getting sick, so laying low this morning! Sometimes (confessing) I can be, not-so-nice to my mom as she still has old habits from when I was a child and my response can be unkind as she does not understand my parenting, especially since both of my kiddos are now young adults. I do my best not to do those things to my children. It’s hard as sometimes she does not understand boundaries. Just wanted to confess.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Oh burr..too cold for me! We just got to open our window finally to let in a cool breeze of 69..haha! Praying you don’t get sick! Drink chamomile tea quickly with honey and lemon!

      1. Mari V says:

Thank you Rhonda. The temp went up to 56 degrees now. But still laying low.

    2. Cee Gee says:

      Healing hugs, Mari! ❤

  7. Traci Gendron says:

My desire is to obey Him and not to be a lukewarm believer.

    1. Mari V says:

Me too, Traci! AND from reading your comments I would definitely considering you a “strong” believer and I look up to you!

    2. Rhonda J. says:

Yep..being throwing that phrase around myself!! I am HOT!! Yes! On fire for Jesus…(finally..lol). Other people will catch the flame if we have it!! In Jesus’ name

    GM She’s!
Happy Sunday, worship day! It is such a gift we are in a place where we are free to go and worship—and in nice buildings, with nice seats and temp settings. When I think about how people around the world have to go to such measures and risking their lives to read a Bible or get to hear the word, I think that we are very spoiled, and how we put it into what we want it to be.Would we have enough faith to walk several miles to church. Would we do it if it had a cost with it. We often put more effort around a football game. Just food for thought this morning.

Also the song “Weary Traveler” was just playing, I always love that song for faith and hope in the hard. I don’t know what I would do without my music playing all day. It is my praise and worship all day to my Savior, keeps my eyes and heart on him non-stop. I am thankful for songs today and church.

    Have a great day!

    1. Audren Phalen says:

Oooh Rhonda that’s a good, convicting perspective to go into church with today!

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes! I saw a little clip of a missionary to somewhere where women could recite WHOLE books. They memorized the Bible by pages of it people would bring to them, then they would get them taken away..and they would bring in handwritten scripture…so they memorized it quick and had to throw it away for fear of getting caught. So the lady said pray that we are able to gather like you all in the United States…and he said no, because those there don’t cherish and hide it away in their heart like you all in earnest and want and need. They take it for granted and most don’t open their Bibles. They wont travel more than a half hour to go to church. They complain if it’s not cozy in the buildings and served coffee. They don’t want to be there more than an hour. SO TRUE!! We have lost our eagerness for God’s WORD!! We all get complacent when the need is low, and the value. May I remember this. There is a good book written on just this subject I found so energizing. “Radical- Taking Back Your Faith From the American Dream!” by David Platt.

        1. Mercy says:

Wow thank you for sharing this Rhonda❤️

    2. Mari V says:

Love you Rhonda! Its almost 8am here and 38 degrees brr… and I just looked up where my sister lives in Florida and its 75 degrees! NICE!! I texted, to get ready for COLD weather here!! Love you sweet lady! Thank you for the reminder that we are truly blessed here.

  12. Danielle B says:

Ladies these 5 weeks have been such a blessing with you all. I look forward to journeying with you all in our Thanksgiving study.

I pray everyone is able to not only worship our Father today, but also rest on this sabbath.

  13. Cee Gee says:

Morning, sisters! While listening to the hymn SEARCHING mentioned yesterday I saw a song I didn’t know and- because of the title- had to check it out.
    BY FAITH
    by Keith and Kristyn Getty
    LYRICS:
By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation’s grand design
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight

By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the power of His promise in their hearts
Of a holy city built by God’s own hand
A place where peace and justice reign

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear
With the power to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave

By faith the church was called to go
In the power of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In every corner of the earth
We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith this mountain shall be moved
And the power of the gospel shall prevail
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name
We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight

Praying for all today! Keep posting! All of your comments are such a blessing!
This verse just shows me that if the Savior of our world cried out to God so should I! We have what we need to live by faith; we just have to operate in it. I need to remind myself of this!

    1. Danielle B says:

Yes what a great encouragement. Jesus cried out, so I should cry out too!

  15. Tami says:

I pray that this will be said of me (and all of you): During her earthly life Tami offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save her from death, and she was heard because of her reverence.” Lord hear our prayers today!

    1. Maria Baer says:

Amen, Tami. To live a life that reflects is a beautiful goal.

    2. Wendy B says:

      Amen ❤️

    3. Searching says:

TAMI – thank you for your comment yesterday about Bible study and working out ‘you can skip one day but not two’ – it popped into my mind that not only is it hard to ‘catch up’ after missing 2 days of either one, it’s also easy for 2 days to turn into 3, 4, 5 days and then you’re totally out of sync.

    4. Mercy says:

      Amen sister.

    5. Adrienne says:

      ❤️❤️

  16. Olivia Winters says:

Hello! I was just wondering if someone could help me understand the part of the verse better that says Jesus was made perfect. How was He perfected if he was already perfect? I know I must be missing something inside that verse. Thanks!

    1. Tami says:

9 And having been made perfect [uniquely equipped and prepared as Savior and retaining His integrity amid opposition], He became the source of eternal salvation [an eternal inheritance] to all those who obey Him

Olivia this is from the Amplified Bible. Hope it helps:)

    2. Lanie H says:

I think it’s one of those both/ands of scripture Rachel and Amanda always talk about on the podcast. Like how it is finished on the cross AND he is making all things new, so it’s complete and it’s a work in progress. I think same goes here he is fully God incarnate so perfect, AND he was fully human so becoming perfection as he was approaching the cross. That’s how I understand it!

      1. Rhonda J. says:

HI MOM!! Are you basking with your little one!! It definitely takes time to get routines and the feel going!

        1. Lanie H says:

Yes!! Loving every second. It’s amazing how you can operate on so little sleep but I still feel really good !

          1. Cee Gee says:

            ❤❤❤

      2. Mari V says:

Well said young mommy!! Very wise!

    3. Bessie H says:

That is a great question, Olivia. I will tell you my understanding. Jesus came to earth as a child and grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. He needed to learn obedience as all children do. “Becoming perfect” doesn’t mean morally. Perfected means that his work of learning obedience through suffering was complete and qualified him to become our Savior. I’m sure there is much more to this passage, but I hope this has sparked in you to ponder it further.

    4. Cee Gee says:

Morning, Olivia! You asked a great question and a ‘perfect’ point to review as we close this study! I am sharing a nite in verse10 of Hebrews chapter2. This is from John MacArthur:
      .
      perfect.
In His divine nature, Christ was already perfect. However, His human nature was perfected through obedience, including suffering in order that He might be an understanding High-Priest, an example for believers (cf. 5:8, 9; 7:25–28; Phil. 2:8; 1 Pet. 2:21), and establish the perfect righteousness (Matt. 3:15) to be imputed to believers (2 Cor. 5:21; Phil. 3:8, 19).
      .
Hope that helps! I need to review all those Scripture references he listed. ❤☺

      1. Searching says:

CEE GEE & BESSIE – thank y’all for sharing your understanding and research. I knew what the Scripture meant but couldn’t have put it into words. Am I the only one that has wondered at what age Jesus was able to understand who He was … certainly by/before age 12 (Luke 2:41-52).

        1. Cee Gee says:

❤ I have often thought how much we missed by not knowing more of Jesus’ childhood. He was 12 when He got left behind at the temple and He was already ‘preaching’ then, but He had had the traditional Jewish religious training so maybe that wasn’t much of a surprise. More good stuff to ponder especially as we go into the advent study!!

    5. Wendy B says:

Great insight and further explanation from everyone. Thank you for sharing

  17. Kelly (NEO) says:

Perfect Jesus, thank You for Your ongoing work perfecting me. Thankful for Your mercy, grace, and loʻoongsuffering in the process.

    Psalm 119

33 Teach me, Lord, the meaning of your statutes,
and I will always keep them.
34 Help me understand your instruction,
    and I will obey it
and follow it with all my heart.
35 Help me stay on the path of your commands,
for I take pleasure in it.
36 Turn my heart to your decrees
    and not to dishonest profit.
    37 Turn my eyes
    from looking at what is worthless;
give me life in your ways.
38 Confirm what you said to your servant,
for it produces reverence for you.
    39 Turn away the disgrace I dread;
    indeed, your judgments are good.
40 How I long for your precepts!
Give me life through your righteousness.
    .
Blessings to you, Shes. May you sense the Lord’s presence in your worship today!
It’s baptism Sunday at our church today! One of the young women from the crisis pregnancy support group I serve in will be taking this step today. Please join me in prayer for her (“T”) as there are still many things in her life, including housing and a job, that need to be worked out. She is trusting in God’s provision. I am the one getting impatient for Him to provide :->

    1. Tami says:

Kelly thank you for the Psalm! Perfect! Praying for T.

Yes, thank you for the Psalm! ❤

    4. Rhonda J. says:

How wonderful Kelly!! I didn’t know you served with them, how wonderful!! I know that feeling when one of our jail ladies got baptized, it was a full circle moment!! We have baptism Sunday today too!!

    5. Searching says:

So good, KELLY, love these Sunday Psalms! ❤️

Praying for T, for the right housing, the right job and financial provision as she trusts Him in the waiting. And praying for good health for her and her baby.
