Acts 2:37-41

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

As we read Acts together, we will memorize a portion of Peter’s sermon in Acts 2:37–41, given at Pentecost after Jesus’s ascension. The apostle calls his audience to repent, promising the gift of the Holy Spirit to all who turn to Jesus.

This week, let’s begin our memorization with the first verse. To help you memorize, write the verse on a note card, then underline the verbs and emphasize them as you say the first verse out loud.

37 When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt generation!” 41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.

God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Saviour. When they heard this they were cut to the heart and asked what shall we do. Peter replied repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receiver the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off for whom the Lord calls. With many other words he warned and pleaded with them save yourselves from this corrupt generation. Those who accepted his message were baptised and about 3000 were added to their number that day!

Julia, I’ve prayed to see others like God does too. Joining you in that prayer. Jill K. I’ve been praying something like you have. I’m praying God would have mercy and draw the lost. That they would be rescued fro the darkness and delivered. I pray that they would be Jesus’s and never snatched away. So many are lost. I pray that they would be drawn, repent, and be saved by any means necessary. Amen!
I wanted to let you know my dad is home! He was touched by your comments and prayers and said thank you. My mom said thank you too.
How beautiful and wonderful you all are. Thank you all so much for taking time to pray and write! Im so grateful for all of you for standing in the gap and praying.I don’t know if this would have happened without all of the prayers. God bless each of you. My mother in law said the last part of this Scripture to me when we found out he was at the hospital about the prayers of the righteous. I’m thankful that prayers were heard. Praying that he will also be saved! “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”‭‭James‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬1d God bless you all! I am going to pray for you all too after I post this!

Dorothy- praying for your sister Carol; that she recovers from Covid well, praying for her son Jake. Praying for Aunt Betty that she recieves the best care in her nursing facility and your cousin Beth that her blood pressure gets under control.

  19. Julia Brown says:

Nikki Tolson,, I feel the same way at times. Let’s commit to reading the study and commenting every day this week so we can hold reach other accountable?
I would like prayers for my children, especially my 10 year old daughter. She was born too early and shove struggles with sensory processing, ADHD and anxiety. She seems to know the right thing but does the opposite over and over especially in regards to my 7 year olds daughter. It’s so hard to stay consistent in teaching her respectfulness to get parents and kindness tho get sister because we do the same thing every day and she never seems to get it. Please pray that I can be the very best witness I can and persevere in seeing her as Jesus does, not as my sinful self does.

  20. Dorothy says:

Sisters I come today asking for prayer for my sister, Carol, who has COVID. Even though she got the shot she is still very sick from it. She is still in her home. Her son, Jake, has been released from jail and last set of charges were dropped on him.
Also, my Aunt Betty who fell Thursday and was admitted to the hospital Friday for a week and then will go to a nursing facility for rehab. The nursing facility is not too far from me. Her family needs prayer too. My cousin, Beth has high blood pressure and is having problems with it.
What’s the old saying, “when it rains it pours”, well I guess that’s my life right now. But I continue to tell myself God won’t give me more than I can handle and I go to Him more frequently right now.
Sisters thank you and bless you and be filled with the Holy Spirit today and always.

    1. Amy Bishop says:

      Praying for you and yours

  21. Foster Mama says:

MARGARET W, you wrote “May I have the faith to believe that you are even more invested in them than I am, and your power is more perfect than my weakness.” — I will carry that with me all day; thank you ❤️.
I pray alongside KELLY and all my sisters that we can put on “the garment of praise He has provided and let Him have (our) heavy hearts.” NIKKI TOLSON, I am echoing your prayer and, Satan, we renounce you (your lies, your trickery, your fear) in the name of Jesus.

  22. Maura says:

Praying for you Nikki, draw near to the Lord, asking Him to give you eyes and a focus that zooms in and rests on Jesus that all else has to fall away. Peace for your heart. Kristina Lopes, stand in faith, our God is mighty to Reign. ☺ Thank you Mari V, praying you made it through yesterday and your headache subsided. Prayed for you Melanie, praying all that is coming at you or heavy on you, you can release, let go of and lay at His feet. When I pray for you I can’t see your face, but I see God holding you His child/woman with deep love His gaze upon you, His arms cradling you. It is beautiful, hope you feel this today. Thank you for prayers Kelly, my friends Soni and Mark, seem to be getting better, praise God. My friend from work, Debbie and her husband Mark, I am not sure, she has been gone over 3 weeks, and had a fever hang on for a long time. I texted her on Thursday and she said she was feeling pretty rotten at the moment, but thought they were starting to get better. My sister, Julia and her family, not the sister I live with were doing okay. Her husband Bryan, and my nephew in law still were not feeling great, continued prayers aprreciated. Thank you all for being prayer warriors. How awesome that we get the priveledge to bring each others needs to our God, And as we join together we pray together we know He is listening, He is answering according to His will, as He is fighting for us in the best ways. Love to all.

  23. Jill k says:

Thank You Lord that Your word tells me that You are faithful to complete the good work You began. I pray for all of our children who know You but have walked away. I ask You to go after them and bring them back home to You.
No one can snatch Your child from Your hand. I hope in Your promises Lord!

  24. Margaret W says:

Thank you also for calling my children, especially the ones who are so far off and buried in their anger today. May I have the faith to believe that you are even more invested in them than I am, and your power is more perfect than my weakness.

  25. Jessi S says:

One thing that stood out to me in the podcast was how shocking all these events were. Christine talks passionately about how a man died (“was really really dead”) then rose up and was living again. She also talks about how amazing it is that we are still here today following Jesus over 2,000 years later. I haven’t finished the whole podcast yet but have enjoyed it so far. Nikki, I’m glad you decided to stay! Thank you for sharing your struggle.

  26. Anna Marie says:

For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” – Acts 2:39. Thank you, Lord, for calling me to yourself.

  27. Nikki Tolson says:

I am struggling staying disciplined and to stay on task. My mind wonders and I get distracted very easily. I thought about cancelling my membership so I wouldn’t be wasting money if I can’t stay focused on doing the daily devotionals. But I soon realized that was Satan trying to steer me off path of my growing relationship & knowledge with God & the Holy Spirit. I am here to ask for prayers for a sound mind & sound heart. Thankful to have this guided study book with so many tools to help me fully understand

  28. Maura says:

Thanks Kelly, love the Isaiah verse you wrote out. Such treasure in God’s word. His peace to your Sunday. May we find our rest in Him.

  29. Aimee D-R says:

Thank you for your gift of the Holy Spirit Lord. Amen

  30. Julie Opheim says:

Amen Kristina! “Be saved from this corrupt generation” is quite a powerful and timely prayer even today.

  31. Kelly says:

    Good morning Shes

This verse in Isaiah 61 came to mind while praying for the requests today

God sent Jesus “to console those who mourn… to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

KRISTINA LOPES, WHITNEY AUTUMNN, ASHLEY, K SWENSON, DOROTHY (CAROL & JAKE), MELANIE, TRACI GENDRON, MARI V (CALEB & ALYSSA), MARTHA HIX, CINDY HANNA, SISSY M, TONI OLSON – may the Lord be with you today as you worship Him.
