Acts 13:17-23

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

As we survey the Old Testament, we’re memorizing Acts 13:17–23. This week, we’ll work on verses 18 and 19. To help you commit these verses to memory, write them out three times on a piece of paper or note card.

17 The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors, made the people prosper during their stay in the land of Egypt, and led them out of it with a mighty arm. 18 And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness; 19 and after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. 20 This all took about 450 years. After this, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. 21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 After removing him, he raised up David as their king and testified about him, “I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my will.”

23 From this man’s descendants, as he promised, God brought to Israel the Savior, Jesus.

Sarah Rose, I’ve not done this personally but I have seen the founder of well watered women share about it- write the first letter of each word on the palm of your hand and all day a as you work with your hands you’ll be challenged to remember the word associated with each letter!

@Sarah Rose – my tip for scripture memory is diligence… it takes a daily commitment to read the verse and say it over and over in your mind. It can be a hard thing to memorize, but it works and you can do it! Post the scripture somewhere in your home, I like to read through whatever I’m memorizing while I dry my hair in the morning. Have it on your phone as well, so you can go to it while you’re waiting in line somewhere or just have a few minutes of free time. Just keep at it and it will come! I even take a picture of the scripture from my Bible so it’s in my photos.

I’m starting to realize how I have not been incorporating scripture memorization as I should, and it’s something I desire in my life and walk with God. I read these Weekly Truths but have not been committing these scriptures to memory. If any of you have tips for scripture memorization please spill! I sometimes don’t know where to start.

Oops, didn’t finish! The Bible often reminds the Israelites to remember, especially the Exodus. Their feasts were regular times to remember. And here Paul is reminding them of their history. Aren’t we so quick to forget? It reminds me of the quote “preach the gospel to yourself”, because we need reminders of what God has done, everyday! Psalm 103:2 “My soul, bless the Lord, and do not forget all his benefits.”

I’ve been reading 2 Peter quite a bit lately and Peter has this thing about not wanting his readers to fall asleep but to keep remembering the truth (2 Peter 1:12-15; 1-2).
