So I was sitting in worship today and it was as if God was speaking to me through the message of our associate pastor. You see, my older son, George, the one that died 16 years ago today, had wanted to be a pastor. When he was alive he was in the youth and was doing all sorts of things in the church. He would serve as a junior deacon every Sunday, he was the youth representative on the board, he was in the youth group, he went to all sorts of youth church functions and even help and got help for the gala for the camp grounds of our denomination. Well our associate pastor was saying how this was a lot what he did when he was in his youth (our pastor were telling their stories of how they came to be in the ministry over the last four weeks). So as I’m sitting next to my sister in church I leaned over to her and said that reminds me of George. She was grinning real big and shaking her head. She and I sat there with our memories as he told his stories. At the end of the service I went up to Rev. Ryan and told he reminded me of George with all of his tales. He grinned real big, he knew my son briefly.
God works in mysterious ways. My sister and I weren’t even sure we were going to go to church today. Now I know why I went.

Glad to be jumping back in. This app has been incredibly helpful in getting me back in the Word consistently. The last week or so I’ve been less present, and I appreciate your prayers as I work to make this a priority. In order for God to have first in my heart, I also have to give Him my attention and time!

Not feeling well this morning I am home, listening to our church service online. The praise worship is on as I look over yesterday’s SRT posts. What a blessing to listen, worship, praise, and pray together lifting your requests and praises in unity.

Mari V. what a blessed time you are in right now. Praise God your son loves him. This is a beautiful time of transition for both of you. When we went through that time with our sons, I went to buy milk the next week and started crying in the grocery story because we were buying a gallon less (our milk drinker was in college). They weren’t sad tears, but transition tears. It is good, but a different and new season of change. For our sons it marked the time when the faith foundation we had been trying to instill became their own. So good.
And, Dorothy, I am praying for you as God tenderly holds your heart and hand. May you know His peace and comfort.He refines and tests us. Day by day, moment by moment. I am so very grateful faithful Lord.

Angie, thank you SO much! I woke up crying! I miss him so much! His name is Caleb. Please join me to pray for him and his buddy. I’m so thankful that he and his buddy chose this wonderful Christian college surrounded by professors and administrators that love Jesus. Please pray that financially he will continue to stay there for four years. He is so stoked as he puts it that his business class is going to be based on Christian principles and is very excited about his Bible class which when he graduates he will have a minor in Bible. I’m feeling sad today. I can’t stop crying

I saw this description yesterday about the process of refining of silver. It encouraged me, so I thought I would share it here…
There was once a group of women studying the book of Malachi in the Old Testament. As they were studying chapter three, they came across verse three, which says: “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.” This verse puzzled the women, and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out about the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible study.
That week this woman called up a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn’t mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot – then she thought again about the verse, that he sits as a refiner and purifier of silver. She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.
The man answered “Yes”, and explained that he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left even a moment too long in the flames, it would be damaged.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?”
He smiled at her and answered, “Oh, that’s easy. When I see my image in it.”
If today you are feeling the heat of this world’s fire, just remember that God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ are refining you. “You are predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ.”
