Weekly Truth

Open Your Bible

Luke 12:32

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week we will memorize a verse about the relationship between God and believers.

“Don’t be afraid, little flock, because your Father delights to give you the kingdom.”
Luke 12:32

I’m sitting in the waiting room of ER as my mother-in-law prepares for emergency surgery. On the way over the line of the song played, “My fear doesn’t stand a chance when I am standing in Your love.” Then I read this verse and am comforted again because my mother-in-law loves Jesus and stands in His love today knowing whatever the result, she finds herself in His kingdom. There is no fear, only His love and care. Praise God.

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need” (Lk 12:31). The context of this verse – seeking God, pursuing Him, worshiping Him, trusting Him is the most important part of my life. And it should be the umbrella over all of my life! If I am seeking God in everything, He will take care of me! I don’t have to worry or be anxious. It does nothing but take my eyes off Jesus Christ. He delights in providing for His children!

This is such an encouragement!! It’s been a long, uncertain week. I definitely needed a reminder that when my plans don’t work out God has so much more in store!!

I love that it is His DELIGHT. He joyfully will give us the kingdom. How should this change our prayers?? How should this change our actions? Knowing that we have an all-powerful God who tells us to seek the Kingdom, and then that He delights to give it!! He is so kind!

This verse always makes me smile. The nursery and toddler kids at our previous church were known as “Little Flock.” Though small in stature and young in age, they needed shepherding every bit as much as their adult counterparts. What a delight (!) to introduce them at that early age to the Great Shepherd. They learned of His love and tender care not only through story and song but also through the loving arms of those who rocked and held them so faithfully. Praying gratefully this morning for those who serve the Little Flock in their church. You are doing a mighty and holy work.

I used to serve in the church nursery many years ago. Even before I had my own children. This has been my favorite part of the ministry. I miss it. I miss rocking my own babies. Many times while rocking a crying baby I would pray that it would be God’s arms holding that baby and not mine. Soon I may not be rocking babies, but I will be with junior high students and praying that God will be able to use this middle-aged woman. But I am so grateful for my job working mainly with kindergartners. I love to see their delight when I walk into the kids care room. LOL! I even miss them on the weekend and I’m excited to see them as well.

Thinking about the word “delights” and thought about something I ran across while studying. God created man on the 6th day. Firsts and lasts are important. Last in action first in thought. Think and reflect on the wonder of that phrase. How does that phrase play out in our lives?
