Day 28

Weekly Truth

from the 1 & 2 Samuel reading plan

2 Samuel 7:11

BY She Reads Truth

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go.

As we read through 1 & 2 Samuel together, we are memorizing five pivotal verses from these books. This week we will memorize the key verse from 2 Samuel, where God establishes a covenant with David and promises provision for His people.

The Lᴏʀᴅ declares to you: The Lᴏʀᴅ himself will make a house for you.
-2 Samuel 7:11

Write this passage down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about Scripture memorization. Will you join us?

Emily it is in one of the best movies too… I think. Right? I cried the entire way through the movie fireproof. When I was young I lost (or found) God and the love of my life. I was rough like Caleb in that movie, and didn’t even know I was … but then God put a love inside of me. I became the love of her life. We haven’t spoken in years. Ironically her name is Emily too but … I put that beautiful love story in God’s hands, and hers.

I really like what you said and feel the same

  3. Allison says:

It feels like my young marriage is failing. Divorce has come up a lot lately and I feel so helpless. I see a counselor, read marriage books and study and pray. I don’t know what else to do. God, please build our house up and be the center of it.

Allison, I am so sorry to hear that. Regardless of what happens between you and your husband, “the Lord is your refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way, and the mountains fall into the sea”. Psalm 40- even if and when everything in our lives crumble, he is our rock, our sustainer. Love you and praying for you sweet girl!

    2. Abby says:

Actually that was psalm 46! ☺️

Allison, I am praying for you today. It sounds like you giving it your all and turning to God for help, which all you can do! I was married at 20 had one daughter and it only lasted 2 years. I can honestly say I put in 100% and turned to God, and gave it everything I had. My ex husband did not, and this was his wish to be divorced…I used to cry and pray for months, I was a 22 years old with a 2 year old and divorced…and he had moved on quite quickly to someone else. I used to wonder why God didn’t answer my prayers and put my family back together. But He did answer them…oh did He answer them…I finally came to place of peace and forgiveness, I strengthened my faith, and when my daughter was 6 years old I met my current husband and best friend. I’m happier than I ever could imagine. She’s now 12 and we have a 3 year old and another one on the way, so many blessings from God….don’t worry Allison, just pray and give it 100% and you will be guided! He does not fail you!

Praying for you! If you have time or the inclination, the song “Love Is Not a Fight” by Warren Barfield sounds like one that would speak to you right now.

    5. Lisa-Jane says:

Praying for you my dear Allison. I’m married to a divorced man. His wife chose to find another. There was trust issues for many years of our marriage, it wasn’t always easy but God was always faithful. “God please hear the desire of young Allison’s heart. Be the centre of their home. Restore this marriage. Bring peace where there is unrest. Bring love where there is brokenness. In Jesus name”

It takes three to heal and restore a damaged marriage :the Lord, you and your husband. The Lord hates divorce so you can rest assured that He is fighting along with you as you desire a Godly marriage. You’re so wise to seek counseling even if your husband does not. I’m praying he will and that his heart will become tender and softened, that he will recall why he married you, that he will remember all the qualities that endeared you to him. Praying that you have the strength to continue to do what you can on your part but know also, that if your husband chooses to walk away, that is on him. You can hold your head high and say you have done your all. Take hold of the Lord’s hand every day – He won’t let go, whether you are married or separated or divorced. He doesn’t let go of His own. I’m praying for His presence to be felt by both you and your husband and for confession and repentance to lead to restoration beyond what you either of you could ever imagine. But please know that if my prayer is not answered in this way, God still sees you as His daughter Whom He loves. His love is an always and forever love. Praying, Alison. Praying hard for you and your husband.

“The Lord declares to you…” Thankful that our God is not distant. He is up close and personal. He declares things to us and He always delivers. Just resting in that with joy this morning.

  5. Hello my fellow sisters! I was curious, where can I find some good contemporary worship songs? I am looking for songs along the lines/similar to Hillsong Worship. Thank you and may you all have a blessed day!

    1. SB says:

Francessica Battistelli, kristian stanfill, Sara bareilles,, Chris August are some of my favorites artists. I normally listen to KLove and then when I hear something I like check them out on iTunes but I also like the albums and suggestions they give to me! I hope you find some good listening Alison!

    2. Taylor H says:

I’m pretty sure Sara Bareilles isn’t a Christian artist, although her music is enjoyable. :-) if you’re looking for worship style like Hillsong, I would take a look at Elevation Worship, Sons and Daughters, Bryan and Katie Torwalt, Kim Walker-Smith, Crowder, Urban Rescue, and Rend Collective. Bryan and Katie Torwalt’s version of Holy Spirit is incredible! Elevation’s Resurrecting is one of my favorites. I hope this helps.

    3. Lynne says:

Be sure you check out Chris Tomlinson. He is pretty much the king of praise and worship music. I like to listen to Pandora. Search for praise and worship music or Chris Tomlin radio and you will be thrilled with what you hear.

    4. truthseeker says:

I enjoy The Crossing Music on Bandcamp. Very lovely songs.

    5. RondaGale says:

Spotify has a Christian genre with unlimited playlists and you can search artists, songs, etc and make your own playlists. Free (with commercials). I love it. Enjoy!

God has been teaching me so much through this study! I believe with all my heart that this is exactly where He wants me to be in His word right now. A couple weeks ago I stumbled on Elevation Church’s YouTube channel and saw that they had just started a sermon series on David. I am not someone who watches online sermons that often, but I’ve already watched the first three sermons in the series and will be watching the fourth sometime this week. (It will be uploaded tomorrow.) The series looks at 1 and 2 Samuel and the Psalms of David in context, so it ties in really well with this study! I recommend watching if you’re looking to dig a little deeper into the life of David. Last week’s sermon “Cutting Corners” spoke right to my current situation and was exactly what I needed to hear. Here’s the link to the YouTube Channel if anyone wants to check it out:

    1. Sara says:

Oh that’s great Kristi. Thank you for sharing! My friend has been preaching on the life of David this summer as well. I’ve been talking through some of it with him as well for context and diggin in deeper. They have a podcast of them if you want further digging-Easthaven Baptist Church in Mississippi.

      1. Kristi says:

Thank you, Sara! I will have to check that out too! :)
