The Second Sunday of Advent: Peace

Open Your Bible

Isaiah 9:6

The Hebrew word for peace, shalom, communicates a wholeness or completeness. Jesus came to a hurting world to bring it peace and to be a living example of shalom—defeating the enemy, reconciling people to Himself, and establishing a new kind of kingdom. In this week’s reading, we will look at some of the specific ways that Jesus came to be our peace in the middle of our uncertain and chaotic world.

The title of each day of reading this week completes the statement “Jesus brings…”

For a child will be born for us,
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
—Isaiah 9:6

Good, it felt weird grabbing my phone and snapping them, but pictures are worth a thousand words, and they were such beautiful moments I wanted to have in my diary of photos! We did this last year…but at that point I left the praying to the other ladies! This year the lady we were joining with, when I said we also need to pray with them, she said “OH! Well you will have to do that–!!” And I easily said okay!! God can really make you a beautiful vessel when we let go of our fear, and let HIM work in us!! I know he was able to say just what they needed!! AND..one guy I prayed for…I felt an OVERWHELMING heat and awe come over me and tears..I told him the Lord really wanted us there praying with him and I wasn’t sure why, and he nodded his head!!! These moments I will never forget, and that’s why I wanted to share!! I am glad they touched people, thank you Cee Gee…love you!!

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1

    1. Lynne from Alabama says:

I really miss being at church all the time but especially this time of the year. I had to give up my once-a-month attendance about six months ago because I just couldn’t leave Jack for that long in the morning. For someone who grew up at church Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and usually at least one other time each week it’s really hard to be away. It breaks my heart to hear about those who have experienced hurt by people in the church. May our gracious God heal that hurt and give you peace so you can join into fellowship with other believers. Have a blessed day, dear sisters! ❤️

      1. GramsieSue says:

        Oh, Lynne,
My heart hurts for you. I know what it’s like to come to grips with this new “normal”, and I pray that you find your peace in this season. Thankful that our God watches over us and surrounds us with His love.
Hugs to you sweet sister. ❤️

        1. Tina says:

Joining you, GRAMSIESUE in your prayers for our Lynne..
          .
God bless you Lynne and I pray you feel His presence in your sadness…

          Much love, Lynne..❤️

      2. Mari V says:

Sweet Lynne…I feel sad knowing you long to attend in-person service, BUT gave it up because you LOVE your husband! I’m praying right now, that someone will step up and come along side you, who you trust and will help you with your sweet husband. YOU my sweet friend are a GREAT example of staying committed to your marriage! We your sisters at SRT love you and can’t wait to meet you someday! Praying also you have friends who come over and visit YOU!

        1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, amen. Hugs Lynn…I so wish I lived closer!

      3. Amy K says:

I have also been unable to attend regularly this fall due to health, family matters and other issues. None of them make attending impossible, just difficult week to week. I feel guilty but know it’s not forever, it’s just a season and church attendance is still a high value of mine even when it’s not always feasible. I’m feeling less alone and more encouraged by your words!

      4. Michelle P says:

You are in my heart, Lynne. I’m so sorry that you can not enjoy church physically in this time. May the Lord be present in this place of sadness and grief.

      5. Cee Gee says:

❤ bless you, sweet Lynne! Continued prayers!

      6. Wendy B says:

I’m sorry you are missing the in person fellowship and communtiy. It’s very hard to be disconnected in that way. I experienced that separation a few years ago for 5 months and it was just so difficult. When I returned I wept And wept. And wept.
Praying Lynne, that the Lord will fill your heart with His peace and His presence and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit would draw you in. And that somehow He would make a way for you to meet with your church family ❤️

    2. Mari V says:

Did someone say cookies? I want to come! Have a great time Sharon!

    3. Tina says:

      And to you, Sharon ❤️

  30. Cheryl Blow says:

So thankful for all that Jesus brought! Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace!

In my daily reading the Bible, I am in Joel, and Revelation. “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
    ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬
    https://bible.com/bible/111/rev.1.17-18.NIV

He is the First and the Last! Very soon He will be coming again and we need to be ready and bring with us as many as we can!

Praying for all of your requests!

  34. Cee Gee says:

    Colossians 1:15-23
    Christ Is Supreme
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
16 for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body.
He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead.
So he is first in everything.
19 For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ,
20 and through him God reconciled
    everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.
    .
.Have a blessed day of worship, Shes! ❤

    GM She’s! Happy Sunday, Shalom!
Prince of Peace has come, is here, and is coming! Peace He gives to us throughout, today, tomorrow, yesterday, and every minute between. Thank you Lord, for this gift. Your presence IS our peace. It’s a beautiful word that encompasses everything, so in it I am at peace. May my peace shine to show Jesus in me!

Yesterday my church group went to the nursing home. My little group of 4 went around to the rooms for the ones that could not go to the main room for carols and crafts. We went in and gave them a little gift and sang a quick little “wish you a merry Christmas” then asked if we could pray with them. All but 1 said yes, certainly. It was such a precious time, each room, each person I would lay my hand on or take their hand in mine. I could feel Jesus right there with us. One time I was overcome by the Spirit in a powerful way that I knew something was going on with the man. My heart was filled with such joy and peace, probably the best part of my Christmas. It’s these things that make it a joy.

    1. GramsieSue says:

      Oh Rhonda,
I love your testimonies! You are such a blessing to me and to so many others. Thanks for your loving, caring spirit!

Funny thing, my prayer for Lynne from Alabama was that church would come to her in some way.. praying!
      ❤️

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, wouldn’t that be amazing, the church needs to keep moving outward and blessing the world and those in need!

    5. Rhonda J. says:

It really is a Praise to God, all Glory to him! It takes a lot of effort to put the Spirit first in your life, Jesus the ONE that comes for us, yet we so often put our worldly things first. It is putting yourself aside, and our kids wants aside, and letting God’s prompting and ways become our ways! Then we truly have shalom. Although again…I have not had the loss, the care-taking, the mental issues, diagnosis- the hard things some of my She’s are in the season of…so in those times, in the hard- don’t count yourself short for not feeling a certain way- but know that in this season, God is still taking care of you and holding you, as your sisters here are!! I hope someone will be the hands and feet for you this season. The helping hands of Aaron to hold the stick up with Moses . The love and hugs that they can spare for you if you need that! We may be in the season of giving or receiving, never be hard on yourself in the gift of receiving for someone in the giving! ——Did that even come out right??!

      1. Margaret W says:

        It came out perfectly. ❤️

    6. Cee Gee says:

❤ The pictures on the FB page touched my heart so!

This is a beautiful song by Elevation worship and Maverick city called “Names”. Have a blessed day ladies!
    You are the medicine
The only cure for everything I feel within
Redeeming what was lost and all that could have been
Oh, this is a healing kind of love
    You are the truest friend
Staying through the night when I was at my end
Comforting my heart till it was light again
Oh, this is a faithful kind of love
    Yes, it is
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Immanuel, God with us, You’re here with me
    Wonderful Counselor
The government is resting on Your shoulders
    You are the final word
You alone decide when every page will turn
So I will trust Your timing, I will rest secure
Oh, this is a steady kind of love
    Oh-oh-oh-oh, You are
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Immanuel, God with us, You’re here with me
    Wonderful Counselor
The government is resting on Your shoulders
    Your shoulders, we say
The Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
Immanuel, God with us, You’re here, right here with me
    Wonderful Counselor
The government is resting on Your shoulders
    Oh, and I am too
    Oh, I am
It’s who You’ve been to me, I’ll remember
I’ll remember who You’ve been for all my life, all my days
    You’ve been so faithful
    Your names say it all
    They say it all
I stand in awe of You
    Your names say it all
    They say it all
I stand in awe of You

“But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In his flesh, he made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations, so that he might create in himself one new man from the two, resulting in peace” (Eph. 2:13-15).
    .
Celebrate the peace we have been given today Shes!

May the God of peace be with all of you.

    2. Seeking Understanding says:

      From Logos explain the verse:
“ Christ’s death on the cross fulfills the law of Moses … and removes the necessity of the regulations that once divided Jews from Gentiles”
      ^
Tear down the wall and remove the regulations that divide us.

Why do we act as if the law has not been fulfilled? What or whom do we fear? Why can’t we trust God and embrace the good news?

  43. Sally B. says:

One of my very favorites (Jesus speaking to His disciples) on peace: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
His peace is so very needed in our extremely troubled world right now. Come Lord Jesus and bring us Your peace!
    Amen.

    1. Jan Elizabeth says:

Thank you for reminding us of this wonderful verse. I am choosing peace over worry today.
