The God Who Receives Our Prayers

Open Your Bible

2 Chronicles 33:1-20, Luke 5:27-32, 2 Peter 3:9

Though Scripture contains many written prayers, like those found in the book of Psalms, and many teachings on how to pray, like the parables and sermons in Jesus’s ministry, this reading plan focuses on the prayers offered to God in the narratives of Scripture. Each day we’ll read a narrative that includes a prayer from an individual or group. Their prayers vary in length, type, posture, purpose, and God’s response. The secondary passages explore how the rest of Scripture speaks to the themes demonstrated in the main reading.

While each account is different, every prayer recorded in Scripture teaches us about the unchanging God who invites us to speak to and hear from Him. These prayers model for us what it can look like to be in conversation with God. As you read, notice the posture and emotions present each day.

Reading Scripture together is the centerpiece of what we do at She Reads Truth. As we spend time as a community reading Prayers in Scripture together, we encourage you to start by reading the daily Scripture on your own. Then join us here to engage and encourage one another as we respond to what we’ve read in the comments.

Do you find it hard to believe that God receives our prayers? Why or why not?

Some days I struggle to believe whether God heats my prayers because I feel inadequate in my approach to prayer. I feel like I am now showing up as my best self and this comes from a performance-reward driven mindset that I struggle with. When I notice that my prayers are unanswered, there is also a component of goodness being withheld. All of my insecurities in this are rooted my the deep desire and neediness for Christ and his timing/goodness.

He answers all our prayers. He answers yes, no or wait. His.

Thankfully He hears me! So many miracles through prayers

I don’t. Manessah is an excellent example that when we pray God hears AND God responds.

I cannot find anything God says, hard to believe. God is God. He cannot lie! I can trust anything that He Tells me. The evidence in scripture is there as well. If we see God as any other person then it’s hard to fathom how he can listen to each prayer and answer them, but if you view God as He is- God. Then you know God cannot be compared to anyone we know on earth! People will fail us- God never fails. People will lie- God only speaks truth. People may ignore us- God is always listening! I’m so thankful for God always listening and responding in the timing that is best. Gods best interest is always for our good and His glory! Amen!

There have been times where I have felt that my prayers have gone unanswered. I expect a voice or a sign right away from God, in that moment. I have gotten angry with him and even questioned his existence because of my lack of patience and trying to control God of his own answers and actions. Gods timing is always the right timing, when I showed anger for not having a response right away I had a lack of faith. God is so good and always answered me and I would be in awe of him and apologize for my lack of faith and for my impatience and anger when he didn’t respond in the timing I liked. We think that we should be given a response right away but who are we to question or even expect God to do things for us? He is creator of all and has a plan for us greater than we can even imagine.
