  1. Laney Randall says:

    Having blind faith is what all of those people in this passage had and to most that would most definitely look crazy. My favorite part was about Abraham when it said “he went without knowing where he was going” I feel like that is a lot of what Faith is, trusting Gods plan is far greater even when we don’t know where it’s going in the moment.

  2. Claire says:

    This passage mentions multiple times that these people lived in faith not for a promise of earthly reward, but of Heavenly reward. We often tell ourselves that living in faith and stepping out and trusting in God is going to make all things perfect here on earth, but we are to “confess that we are strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (vs. 13) and we should “desire a better, that is, a heavenly country.” (vs. 16)

  3. Tebatso Mamabolo says:

    You can not say you are surrendering to the father without faith. Faith is our cornerstone as believers and we should always strive to live in faith versus sight. God will turn your sight of so you can depend on his promises and your faith in him. What a blessing it is to be loved so intentionally by God♥️

  4. Felicia Banks says:

    I expect the faith looks unusual or even crazy to the outside world. Because often they were doing things that made no sense, when against the grain, or were ahead of their time. We look to the world to measure our actions or achievements or even our life direction. These moments of being called to faith are in direct contradiction of what was statistically quo at that time.

  5. Cloe says:

    I have never read Hebrew 11, but I knew all of the promises of God that were mentioned. These promised reminds us that we need to wait and be patient. Even though we are able to read someone’s entire story and imagine everything that God has planned to them in a matter of minutes, we still need to remember that it actually took years for them. I say the obvious because I know we all want everything in hand, in a matter of days, but that’s not how God works. We need to deserve what God has planned, and for that to happen we need to put our faith in Him and seek Him even more every single day. Trust that His timing is perfect, and rest our hearts in Him completely.

  6. Vaianu Yung says:

    Let Go & Let God! Have faith in him and things will fall into place as they are meant to.

  7. Ashton Helton says:

    I have not read this part of the chapter before but I am familiar with the stories. I believe living by faith means understanding that God is in control of this whole thing and we should trust in Him that He knows what He’s doing. We should trust in that God isn’t gonna lead us into something we can’t handle.

  8. Brianna Eklund says:

    I have never read this part of the Bible before. Though, I see the faith in this scripture as endless faith not contained. These people were ready to lay down their lives, those of themselves and of others. This is a type of faith in the Lord I believe we should all strive for.

  9. Rosie Hovel says:

    By Faith you can do many things through God, just like the people in the Bible once did

  10. Natasha Nelson says:

    To live by faith is to make God the number one priority and trust in Him above all else, knowing that even by doing so you may not get where you want to be but will be where He guides you and that’s the greater destination.

  11. Chloe Addison says:

    Living by faith is knowing that whatever happens in life, God is in control! No matter the storms or trials you face, God is right there by your side and has already won the battle. Every trial is a teaching lesson, do you truly have faith that God is in control and that he is going to protect and guide you through?!

  12. Mallory Ottaway says:

    Living by faith is realizing you have no control because God holds the power. It’s relaxing you don’t see a clear path but He does and is leading you down where he wants you to go. Living by faith is trusting in him and his love. Living by faith is surrendering to him.

  13. Isabella Meade says:

    The faith of these people should be strong and unshaken. But knowing what I know about them, that is not always the case. They question God, try to take their own path, just like we do all the time. Faith in God is strongest when we choose to let go and let His will be done.

  14. Jahzarae Jones-West says:

    Living by faith is trusting in God even when we feel numb, nameless and outnumbered. Living in faith is trusting in Gods will even when the darkness seems to be all consuming. Although the circumstances aren’t the best, through faith you are able to persevere because you know victory has already been claimed.

  15. Agnes Agala says:

    I believe this was a faith that transcended all human capabilities. A faith with a strong foundation to pull them through their most difficult times. I think that through prayer or reflection they felt the kingdom of heaven and has revelation of its strength and power which led to their perseverance in persecution.

  16. Sarah Samuels says:

    Living by faith is living with God’s strength helping you. This is because we allow Him to carry us through. They did not receive their promises but that is not why they had faith to begin with, therefore, with faith we are content with the strength and love of God through and through. Just as those mentioned, they each experience different situations and through each they had faith in God

  17. Jennifer Wheeler says:

    Faith, something we all find hard at times. This reading really brings gives me hope and a stronger faith. These are ordinary people that God used his further his kingdom. They struggled with their fsith at times just as we do. I pray this study helps me grow more in faith.

  18. Rachel Reedy says:

    I know they were ordinary people, but I also feel they are monuments (think LOTR). My faith and my own battles feel so small compared to what they went through. But I also see ordinary issues within their struggles and how they took their issues to God.

  19. Naomi Faddes says:

    God said he would provide and he did time after time, however it was important for believers to trust in his promise, even when he told them to wait or obey. They wanted to trust and put their lives in his hands. They wished for his will to be done.

  20. Anna Robinett says:

    By faith is such a powerful line because that’s all it takes. Faith as big as a mustard seed is all we need to please God. We have to be faithful in knowing God has our lives in his precious hands!!

  21. Emily Klotz says:

    Sometimes I think these people were rockstars of faith and they never wavered in believing for miracles, and that’s why they got their miracle. But they were ordinary people and they struggled to keep believing sometimes, just like we do. Yet God was faithful to his promises every time!

  22. Vonseer Allen says:

    Many times we as people tend to lose our Faith because we cannot see what God is doing in our lives. We look at others and see what is being done for them and we also lose faith because we have not seen results. We have to know and believe that it’s already done by Gods will.

  23. Alyssa Roth says:

    One of the things I saw this time around reading through this scripture, was the mention of Moses and his faith. When scripture tells the story of Moses, he runs from his calling and leans on another to speak for him. He was afraid. Yet when scripture later reminisces of these moments, we hear only about his endearing faith. It gives me great comfort that what is important and remembered are the moments of faith, that I, in all my shortcomings and lapses in fear will be okay. What a great reminder that it’s okay to slip up and have hard days or seasons, because our God truly chooses to see the good.

  24. Michaela Brown says:

    I know those mentioned here were faithful to God despite what they were going through. I long for this in my life, but it seems so hard. I want to remain faithful while going through unfair, seemingly undeserved circumstances. I’m hoping this bible study will help me figure out how.

  25. Robin Layne says:

    I’ve read this chapter before. They believed GOD no matter what the physical situation looked like. They didn’t have the help of the Holy Spirit like we do today. They had their minds set on the promises of GOD and not on earthly things. They knew that the things that were seen are only temporary. They kept their eyes on the prize. They are examples of walking by faith and not by sight.

  26. Emanuelle Mello says:

    Since I have never read this scripture before I expect the faith of this mentioned to be like when a child believes that the tooth fairy will deliver money for their milk teeth. The true and honest belief that it will happen no matter what’s around them.

  27. ashley Lyons says:

    The people in the scripture were all faithful, obedient servants of God and often when we hear about their experiences they come across as unfair and unearned. We often think that if we are faithful to God and do all the right things then God will reward us in answering ours prayers and things going our way. These people are a reminder that our earthly ideas of what we deserve is not aligned with God’s plan.

  28. ashley Lyons says:

    From what I remember all of the people in the scripture were faithful and obedient servants to God and on the surface, God put them through unfair suffering. We often think that if you are faithful to God good things will follow

  29. Jet Taylor says:

    I think trust is something that I struggle with in my life, and I’m praying that God can heal this in me through helping me to grow my faith. My desire to be faithful is there, I’m just hoping he can help me supply the feelings. Feeling new in this walk.

  30. Adriana McKenzie says:

    As a young woman trying to grow my faith in God I do seem to find it a bit challenging at times. Going through rough patches and having people tell you that you can do it is probably the hardest part, because at the end of the day only God can truly calm my nerves about obstacles. I’ve realized that my only job is to keep my eyes on him as he guides me down whichever path he chooses.

  31. Natalie Jorges says:

    I am still struggling to understand Faith and walking by faith. I have seen such awful things done to Godly people and even though they had unwavering faith in God, I couldn’t under why he allowed such pain. So although I agree that I need to walk by faith and trust in Gods promises, it’s still hard to actually do.

    1. Erica says:

      I agree. I am really struggling with this. My mom recently passed away from leukemia at 62 yrs olds. The 6 months she battled she did not waiver one time that God did not have her. She told anyone who’d listen about him. She recieved the transplant to save her life but the last round of chemo was so harsh she ended up with to severe brain. I’ve never seen someone with as much faith as her and suddenly her faith failed her

  32. Amanzi Lawrence says:

    God’s timeline is perfect even when we can’t see it. To live by faith is to recognize all that He has bestowed on everyone in this chapter and more! Walking in faith is to believe in His promise that has been in place since ancient times.

  33. Kait Fierro says:

    After reading, walking by faith is more pleasing to God. He’s got us. Moses parted the Red Sea, not because God allowed it but because Moses had Faith in God. Faith is about the unseen. You can’t see it, but you have to trust in Him. You may not see it but I believe you can feel it.

  34. Hannah C says:

    In the New Testament, Jesus says “your faith has saved you.” I reread this passage knowing that He has a plan, one better than anything I could imagine. I put my faith in you Jesus.

  35. Emma Fletcher says:

    Walking by faith and not by sight is a great way to convey how we should trust Jesus in our every day lives. Instead of searching for answers to our trials ourselves, we must remind ourselves to look to Christ instead of leaning on our sinfulness. Faith is unseen but us Christians are confident and trusting of Him!

  36. Kate Laird says:

    Our faith is reliant on not things seen, but things unseen. God’s timing is perfect and he will reward those who put their faith in him, even when it is hard.

  37. JEAN Sigley says:

    The Bible says faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The definition of faith in the dictionary is complete trust or confidence in someone or something…that would be God’s promises & the finished work of Jesus on the cross. So place your trust & confidence on those truths

  38. Destiny J says:

    Walking by faith and not by sight is such monumental way to live a life that’s fully reliant and trustworthy of God alone. It’s an act of faith, sacrifice and obedience that is honorable to God. An act that most struggle or challenge with till this day. Grateful to be such in a journey that’s uniquely my own yet reminiscent of some of the most influential and historical people of the Bible then and now.

  39. Jealine Noel says:

    Reading this chapter, and just seeing the overview of God’s faithfulness in their lives, reminded me how vast our faith needs to be. While the things I’m wanting God to intervene for in my life are big to me, and of course they’re important, they are not as unbelievable as having a child past childbearing age, or building an ark with no former knowledge… God is capable, all he needs is for you to trust him and trust his plan!

  40. Vicki Slayton says:

    Two words: by faith! God only sees the end result of our faithfulness to Him. We read about it in scripture of all the saints that have gone before us who their faith has become sight! They trusted in an almighty God and had FAITH in His promises that one day they would be with God in heaven for eternity!!

  41. Rachel Penabella says:

    Faith is believing in God’s promise, even if you will not see the results in your lifetime. Yet, once we have said yes to Christ, we have eternal life, so we will witness His greatness and promises come to fruition in the everlasting. These individuals mentioned in Hebrews 11, belong to the Hall of Gaith – Patriarchs and Matriarchs. Faith compels action, obedience, and trust. Faith requires endurance, even when God’s promise is beyond our years on earth. Faith is also a legacy. It is all about Christ and the hope we continue to have in Him.

  42. Ellie Sandoval says:

    I totally agree with everything y’all all said, something I struggle with is TRUSTING, trusting that everything he does and puts in our path is for a reason! To make us stronger or get us ready for what’s head.

  43. Melissa Guillaume says:

    Faith is pushing through trials and tribulations knowing Gods promises will be there in the end.

  44. Heather Sapatka says:

    Faith to me is trusting in what God says, even when it’s hard, seeking His voice and knowing He will lead and guide you each step of the way! Knowing that His plans are the best ones!!

  45. Lis Henegar says:

    To me it is strength in what you believe

  46. Brandy Lucas says:

    Faith to me is trusting God even when things don’t make sense, trusting him through trials of uncertainty. Faith is not second guessing the commands that God gives us and trusting that everything will be revealed and makes sense in due time. Faith is knowing that as long as I am seeking God’s will in everything I do everything will be okay!

  47. Jessica Thomas says:

    I have read this passage before and made some of my own notes in the margin. I remember the time vividly because it really struck home to me. Annie F Downs preached at Cross Point Church, Tennessee and I saw it online on finishing your own sentence.

    These people lived by faith, they had their own stories and had passed on. When we pass from this land I pray that my own name could follow those of this list:

    ‘By faith Jessie Thomas … … …’

    I challenge others to imagine how their own sentence may finish when our lives on earth are done. How will our faith play out in our own stories. Annie F Downs says it much better, this is just from memory so if anyone feels like listening to the world sermon it should be online somewhere.

    Hope you have a blessed day x x

  48. caitlyn trammell says:

    I could only imagine the obedience and trust in God each of these people had in this chapter. It’s always difficult to see sacrifice as rewarding, but Faith always shows us that God will show up and He will show up ON TIME. God is bigger than any giant we could ever face and He will make a way even when it feels like there is nothing being given.

  49. Saige Scott says:

    The stories from the Bible often feel unattainable and this is a beautiful reminder of how truly human these people were and that all we have to do is have big faith to have a similar relationship with God.

  50. Salome Awini says:

    Faith to me is a stronghold, thus holding on to something which you believe will come to life

  51. Jordan Akpan says:

    Faith is surrender and reliance on God alone..

  52. Alex James says:

    Faith to me is consistent and unwavering. Even when trials may come, there has to be a sight of faith that things will change. My faith is my trust in Christ.

  53. Emma Lowry says:

    The faith of those mentioned in Hebrews 11 wasn’t always easily obtained but it was ALWAYS rewarded and they knew even during the suffering that there was inexplicable joy to be given in the end. They trusted that God had their backs and would only allow the pain to continue their journey to HIM.

  54. Shelby Lowery says:

    Read this through a lense or desperation. I am so anxious about the US right now and the kind of world we live in. I am afraid. I just started this Bible study today and journaled for the first time in a very long time. V. 7 really resonated with me.

  55. Raegan Anderson says:

    Unwavering faith. These people were looking towards the perfect goal. Striving towards their promised land. Having faith helps us reach the beautiful goal. Gods plan for us is so much bigger than we could ever imagine.

  56. Raquel Medina says:

    What an incredible awakening of my faith! I’m learning to push past the distractions and habits of this world, following the example of so many faithful believers who chose truth over lies. Their journeys remind me that while it won’t be easy, it’s always worth it. When I stay connected to Christ, my worries fade, but when I stray, I forget that I’m not meant to carry my burdens alone. Instead, I need to lean on God and trust Him to take the weight.

  60. Tori Nolen says:

    Amen

  61. Tori Nolen says:

  62. Olivia Leeman says:

    Faith is the main goal. But it’s not this earth we strive for, that it is the next life in Heaven we strive for. And that faith through hardship and trials is what gets us through this life. And that the promise of God is that He will always be with us through that. No matter the circumstances, we have faith and know He walks with us.

  63. Adrianna Lee says:

    The people who are mentioned in hebrews 11 shows that the had so much faith. They faith was so big that even when it would have been easy to give up that they knew God’s plan was bigger,and better even during their suffering.

  64. Katelyn Baker says:

    Always have faith in God. For it may be unknown to you, God will always provide.

  65. Amaiyah Monet says:

    It’s so easy to doubt God especially when we don’t see what he has promised us. It is hard to truly trust God when the task seems impossible. However, reading this we should learn that one nothing is too hard for God and two faith is what gets us through life.

  66. Paula Awuku says:

    This earth is not my home, hence the promise is not the end goal. My place in heaven is. Lord please help me accept this and help me live a life that will guarantee my place in heaven.

    1. Ashlee Williams says:

      Your place is in heaven! But more importantly your place is at the feet of Jesus! Heaven is not the goal, Jesus is! Love a life worthy of the sacrifice He made, but more than that TRUST that His sacrifice is sufficient and your place with Him is secure

      1. Koren Lindley says:

        ❤️

  67. tiffany Allen says:

    At the beginning of this chapter it states that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen,” Hebrews 1:1; all of them (Abraham, Sarah, Noah and so forth) believed in God. They believed in His word so no matter the sacrifice, the trouble, or how something seemed impossible they trusted in Him. They followed him. They were obedient because they knew God. They continued through the hard journey because of whom God is. We have to continue and trust God, have faith even if we don’t see what God sees. He is our guide.

  68. Mercedes Smith says:

    Having faith through whatever you do, even if it’s not working in your favor. Always trust the plan the Lord has for you, because there are greater this when you follow!!

  69. Noel Ciancaglione says:

    .

  70. Lauren Anderson says:

    For those mentioned in this passage, it’s clear that God’s promises and their hope in Him were bigger than whatever temporary earthly reality they were facing. Their steadfast faith and constant focus on God’s will kept their hearts & minds strong, even when their bodies wanted to give up.

  71. Jenna Young says:

    Have faith in God’s plan and timing ❤️

  72. Fill in Fill in says:

    Starting this journey of Faith to be like them

  73. London Schmid says:

    i want to have faith like they did so inspiring

  74. Thea Fox says:

    Having faith and his strength doesn’t mean we’re indestructible it means we can get through anything thrown or way no matter how big or small.

  75. Cassandra Dobutovich says:

    My preconceived notion is that it was “easy” for them to be faithful. That they never struggled with being faithful. Clearly if they are human it must have been hard. We want approval from others and being a person if faith kind of outs thr kabosh on some of that. It’s not easy being faithful. It feels like a fantasy sometimes.

  76. Peyton Thomas says:

    So good

  77. Peyton Lemerand says:

    This is a great reminder that being faithful doesn’t mean perfect. God tests obedience. Sarah had to wait until old age for a child, but God provided in his timing. Having faith doesn’t mean God will give you what you are asking for, it just means that you trust that he will provide for what you need.

  78. Jennifer Jackson says:

    I have read this before a few times. Today when I read it I highlighted what they did. They understood by faith, they were commended as righteous because they brought the best for God, pleased God by how life was lived by having faith, obeyed and went by faith, they lived by faith right up to death. They believed God had better for them even if they were not going to experience it in their life on earth. I want that strong faith.

  79. Stephanie Bryant says:

    As hard as I try to be “perfect” I am not. I am perfectly imperfect. I did something I knew better than to do. I am grateful and thankful for my employer to allow me to come back to work. The only perfect person in this world is the God of the universe.

  80. Carrie Moon says:

    I have a preconceived notion that the heroes of faith were good examples in all things, but they are people just like us and had flaws and even failures. Abraham and Sarah had the whole Ishmael scenario, and that is not mentioned here. Perhaps because it was forgiven? There are many other examples where these heroes were not perfect, but they still returned to God and their faith. When we make mistakes or sin, may we turn to our loving God in faith that He hears us and wants a relationship with us through Christ.

  81. Mary Holmes says:

    Each and every one of these put their trust in the Lord. Even if they knew things were going to be tough, their faith was stronger than anything they experienced because they knew the love of God and his ability to provide for them.

  82. Michelle Smith says:

    God does not need perfection to do His work, But uses the sinner, struggler, weary, etc to show others His glory

  83. Ella Smith says:

    God always uses the weary and the sinners to do the most beautiful work through him

    1. Cassandra Dobutovich says:

      I like this. “The weary and the sinners.”

  84. Rihanna Gusman says:

    I got baptized almost a year ago and I’ve really been struggling with my relationship with god I’ve had a a lot of terrible luck lately I don’t pray or read the Bible every night like I used too an I want to get back to that a part of me feels like I can’t feel god with me anymore but when I worship I get really overwhelmed and feel his presence again I just want to able to trust in his plan for me that eveything will eventually work its self out

    1. Carrie Moon says:

      Thanks for posting. There are dry seasons and growing seasons in our walk with God. He is faithful to be there with us in it all. Praying for you to sense His presence and know His love for you.

  85. Allison Strickland says:

    Stopped the mouth of lions. Our God is mighty and can do all things. By putting our faith in Him, our struggles may not cease but will be resolved- He will guide us and protect us through all.

  86. Chloe Addison says:

    I can’t wait to learn and grow more in my faith!! Something I wish I had learned to focus on sooner

  87. Morgan McIntyre says:

    Absolutely needed to read this!

  88. Abby Roudebush says:

    It always astounds me how God used a prostitute to save the Israelites and she is in the line of Jesus.

  89. Haley Jones says:

    So cool how God shows up in everything even when there has not been a testimony for people to go off of. The faith is unmatched.

  90. Michelle Rutherford says:

    I have been reading through the OT and this chapter in Hebrews pops up. The thing that is so easily overlooked is that Abraham and all of the others are stepping stones in God’s plan of redemption. They didn’t get to realize it. They didn’t get to experience it. Yet. But in faith they tasted it. This is such great encouragement for me today. I’m walking with the Lord and trusting in him. May I be a stepping stone in his plan of redemption.

    1. Joy Henkel says:

      Yes! Thank you. I too often miss this point of being one of Gods stepping stones.

  91. Heather Welch says:

    Yes Lord… I hear you. This is really Good Stuff. Sep.3 I made a big decision to go to rehab. I was using fentanyl, Meth, pill’s etc. I was walking in the pits of Hell and I hated who I become because I knew this wasn’t me. I tried so many times to overdose myself because I didn’t want to continue living like I was. I had went to church all my life. Then the devil started trying to take over my life he wanted my soul but it wasn’t his to take because I am a child of God!!!! I’m so thankful for him walking right beside me even when I had lost faith. He was still there holding my hand all the way through the pits of hell to that rehab. I’m so greatful for (#1 God #2My kids #3My Aunt Lori for getting me in Faith Home Rehab #4Faith Home ) He is really Blessed me with so many wonderful gifts. I had been praying for a godly man. Yeah he didn’t come right away but that’s just it. We have different time waves. ( we don’t have the same Rolex that God has lol ) He knows when the time is right for us in whatever situation it may be good or bad. I’m done venting but thanks for letting me share a little of my story. Thank You so much for you Guidance, Forgiveness, Never Ending Love and most of all sending your son who died on the cross for all our sins and that right there is so powerful because even your son never lost faith in you. Your such and amazing father. Thank you y’all GN

    1. Joy Henkel says:

      First a great Big hug from the Love of God. Second, I will pray for your continued healing and faith. Thank you for sharing so we can cheer you on in our community of sisters in faith.

    2. Becky Congdon says:

      Praying for your continued healing and freedom in Jesus, Heather! You have a wonderful testimony and I pray it will help others who have been in similar situations.

  92. Caitlin Hall says:

    This passage made me question myself “am I longing for things here on earth or am I longing for eternity?” And “would I choose to walk in obedience if it causes pain
    ?” A very humbling passage. I love the last verse that says “God has planned something better”. Even if I don’t see it, I need to continue trusting in God. My tiny human brain doesn’t see the big picture.

    1. Joan Green says:

      so true!!

  93. Clara Williamson says:

    AMEN

  94. Crystal Pitzer says:

    Life is hard, but with God it can be easier. When I think about the names mentioned, I am in awe. These people trusted God sometimes without thought. I pray to be more like that.

  95. Lindsey Bradley says:

    Just now starting this community reading… something that stood out to me is what each person did in their faith. As it is written, “Faith without works is dead.”

  96. Kim K says:

    This was a wonderful reminder from God that He is in all things and works through our imperfections. This reading reminded me to watch and anticipate, to have faith, that God is in control.

    1. Joan Green says:

      ❤️

  97. Zipho-zihle Tabata says:

    I would often think that these people had it easy. That’s why it was easy for them to trust God. To substantiate this I’d say “but they had intimate encounters with God, they spoke to God and He spoke to them, they witnessed miracles” How could they not trust. But today the Holy Spirit has reminded me that we too have the opportunity to have personal experiences with God but we don’t take note of them because we are always busy. We fail to hear His voice because we do not read His word. We neglect to see the miracles in front of us because we focus our eyes on all the bad things happening around us.

    1. Anna Jeremiah Dupale says:

      Mmmm!! This is a good one, sister. That’s true! I sometimes think this way too, only to realize that God is much closer to us than ever before because ever since we’ve accepted Christ, He comes in us and lives in us. We often ignore that fact because, as humans, we’ve been accustomed to believe what we see, but this time, as our forefathers endured through faith, God wants the same for us too. That even though we do not see Him, we hear Him and we believe Him. Which takes us to a higher level of faith. As Jesus described in Matthew, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a pearl of great price/ hidden treasure. We give everything we have to earn it. The same way in hearing the Holy Spirit, we set aside everything to hear the Pearl of Great Price, The Hidden Treasure — Jesus Himself.

      Still, we do not belittle the acts of faith of those who went before us because that served as a stepping stone, in taking us into a much deeper yet higher relationship with Christ. Amen. Glory to God!

  98. Chelsea Goldston says:

    Honestly, before I read this, I think my mind automatically went to the sins that these people committed and not thought about how faithful they were to God. It sparks a sense of grace to know how loving and forgiving God is, and how he works through his people even after the mistakes they have made.

  99. Taylor Zuilkowski says:

    I had forgotten how inspiring this chapter is…It was exactly what I needed and refreshing to my soul.

    1. Joan Green says:

      ❤️

  100. Carleigh Carter says:

    In Heb 11, we see men and women who did the right thing by God even when they couldn’t see him or wouldn’t play witness to his long term promises. If they can have that kind of faith, I can do my job faithfully even when God seems like he isn’t there.

  101. Marie Duvernois says:

    The people in the Bible were not afraid to share their faith, even in persecution. That brings comfort. God has a plan for everything.

  102. Victoria Castillo says:

    Having faith is one of the most challenging things part of our Christianity, which is why many do not believe in the gospel, only through faith will he unravel himself and his glory to you.

  103. Ivette Rodriguez says:

    My faith has been fading, I’m so happy I found this❤️I want to build my faith and stop focusing on what’s happening but start wondering why it is happening. Everything comes with a purpose.

  104. Jordann Shields says:

    The people mentioned in this chapter, had un-withering faith in what they could not even see. The had faith in God’s plan through suffering and scary scary times without knowing what the outcome would be. These people just knew that God’s plan for them

  105. Jennie Burke says:

    It has thought me that is okay to speak out loud with my faith

  106. Jazmon DeRousselle says:

    I feel that the people in the Bible exuded Faith but trusting God even when they were unsure, felt unqualified or had to lay there life on the ground. It shows me that we should always have Faith in our God because all things are working for our good.

  107. Trinity Jones says:

    Over time I have learned how to have faith even through the bad times. Because once you finally out of the fire you look back and realize all you had to do was let go and let God. It is hard to not go and do things on your own timing but letting God take over my life was the best decision ever.

  108. Jaslen Baldwin says:

    I loved how many ppl in the Bible r so faithful!! And now I wanna read all those story’s of them

  109. Adeola Adeniyi says:

    Having faith is really important, it can be hard sometimes but having faith is important, trusting that God will do the impossible in your life.

  110. Taryn Parker says:

    It is realizing that faith is asking so much more of us in belief, beyond the things we can’t see but through suffering or the impossible, or death and not even seeing the promise ourselves. But believing for our children’s children and generations to come. That our faith is pushing for the future promise just as these listed believers had, faith of a promise of heaven that we can have faith in too. It’s so much bigger than us.

    1. Jaslen Baldwin says:

      Yesss oh my goodness that’s so good!!

  111. Kerlita Hill says:

    It is easy to be faithful when then are going well in your life. Yet true faith is in the testing of burying a son, marriage being tested, losing your job, praying salvation for lost family and friends. Can’t say I have handled all the trials and tribulations well yet I preserve for

    1. Mallor Martin says:

      Yes. Learning to be faithful no matter the season whether it is easy and good or hard and tormented.

  112. Dawn Hall says:

    Makes me think about the persecuted Christians around the world and how important it is to pray for them. I think persecution will be increasing in more countries in the future.

  113. Tessa Venizelos says:

    I’m always struck by the walls of Jericho falling down. For me, it’s a sweet and powerful reminder of faith and its power to break down walls. I’m thinking of the walls in my life that need to be broken down— fear, grief, anxiety, worry, shame. To have faith that they’ll crash down in the name of Jesus (even if it isn’t in my timing).

  114. Wongani Nyirenda Banda says:

    One thing that’s really been pressed upon my heart is that just because we remain faithful doesn’t mean we are guaranteed our promises or an amazing future. But the act of faith in itself is what God wants from us, because that’s what pleases him . Long suffering in faithfulness.

    1. Mallor Martin says:

      Same. It kept sticking out in this scripture that even though they were commended for their faith, they didn’t see things come to pass. That’s a hard truth to accept but a necessary one.

  115. M.M. Wolf says:

    Easy to be stagnant when times are great and suddenly realize how FAITH is all I have when things are very wrong in life. But that Faith does give me peace and allows me to realize God is also on my side, fighting for me to be better at all things, serving my husband and family, a wake up to get back in his word. Asking my faithful friends to get on there knees and pray for me when I feel like I am out of words. I have seen Gods hand working in the struggles of my life. Thanks to HIM!

  116. Rachel Boyd says:

    I hope to one day have the sort of faith of the people listed in these verses. Sometimes my faith is strong, but I wonder if it will ever be as strong as the heroes we read about

  117. Jelani Leak says:

    I felt like I really needed these verses today. It truly is amazing to see what our faith in God can do and powerful it is. I’ve recently dealt with the breaking of a friendship and have felt that in that friendship I was forsaking God and not doing what I need to do as a Christian. I feel like breaking that friendship was the right thing to do and that God confirmed that in these verses I read today.

  118. Amelia Slechta says:

    Hi, this is my first day reading scripture “on my own” without working closely with a mentor. I am happy to have this group to work along side with. Also very happy to begin my journey with the “Live by Faith” portion as this is what I struggle with in my journey. I am a believer but some days, it’s hard. Thank you Amen!

    1. Rachel Boyd says:

      I used to make fun of Thomas but now I realize that he got to actually touch Jesus’ scars. We only have the testimony of others to go on.

  119. Lee Contreras says:

    Hi all I’m new here, this was actually my first time on this app and reading this scripture has touched my heart as I am going through a time that resembles, it’s amazing to see how God speaks to me. I often find myself surrounded by people who dislike me and beat me down and lately it’s been hard, but this helps me remember to look ahead to Gods promises and gives me strength to love my neighbors regardless.

    1. Alison Bryant says:

      Welcome to the she reads truth community Lee! I’m sorry to hear you are feeling disliked and beaten down. You are valued in the family of Hod!

    2. Jenee Mack says:

      Welcome!!! He is bigger than our self defeating thoughts of ourselves! Prayed over you Lee!

  120. Carrie Taylor says:

    This has encouraged me, no matter how terrible this world becomes, we must have faith in God knowing he has it all under control.

  121. Sandy Gastineau says:

    It has been awhile since I have read the book of Hebrew. So blessed by this chapter because it reminds me to live by faith and faith can move mountains.

  122. Kassie Lex says:

    Where I am in my life, a SAHM with two small toddlers, this was what I needed now. My patience are tested daily, and sometimes I feel like I am losing my mind. I know that this is caused by worldly views and Satan himself. This was a reminder to me that my God IS faithful. My God does know me. “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” Matthew 6:27 ESV

    We live in a world where anxiety is normalized and faithfulness in The Lord is not. I needed to see this and read through these responses more than ever.

  123. Blessing Eldad says:

    Giving up on God’s Word is a disservice to our faith

  124. Amy Elliott says:

    Amen

  125. America Vail says:

    I love how the message translation states that He exists and cares enough to respond to those that seek Him! Great reminder that our faith is what God notices and approves as righteous.

  126. Jacqueline Linton says:

    This chapter acts as a reminder to be faithful through all of life’s trials. God is always faithful to us and we can lean on that in our times of discomfort.

    1. Courtney Covatch says:

      Amen!

  127. Sarah Hanna says:

    This chapter opened my eyes to what I truly struggle with, which is faith in God’s faithfulness. I’ve never doubted how real He is, but I constantly doubt that He still loves me in spite of my sinful nature/desires. I’m really hoping that through this study and consistent therapy, I can come out strong in my knowledge that God’s love and faithfulness does not ride a rollercoaster like mine does.

  128. Bristee Bostick says:

    I’m always struck by how faith moved these people to action. It calls to mind the scripture in James 2 that faith without works is dead. By faith, Abel offered. By faith, Noah built. By faith Moses left. By faith the Israelites marched. True, deep faith calls us to move in to the specific places the Lord calls us to, not just sit at home and study and keep it to ourselves. Our spirits can’t help but be called to move when faith rises up within us.

  129. Emily Moreland says:

    This is my journey back to my faith. I’ve wandered off to a place where I don’t like myself. Where there is a bigger distance between me and God. I’m trying to close the gap again. Faith to me is hard. Sometimes it’s long and treacherous. Having faith can be trying especially when God doesn’t lay it on your lap in YOUR timing. This chapter was a bit of a reminder to me. A reminder that my troubles are so tiny compared to those listed in this chapter. It humbled me in the way that I know my struggles are small but His love is much larger.

    1. Carrie Taylor says:

      I’ve wandered off as well, it’s so easy to do. I just see Jesus there with his hand reached out saying come back to me, sit with me. He loves us so much he will take us back a million times.

  130. Emily Davis says:

    What strikes me is the suffering that each one of the people listed endured. The author goes on to list so many mighty things done “conquered kingdoms, escaped the sword” but also lists alongside them “stoned, sawn in two.. afflicted, mistreated”. It makes me think that our call to deep, big faith is about both the greatness of God’s power, and the greatness of our promised suffering while we are in this world.

  131. Sarah Walko says:

    This scripture reminds me that faith in God is foundational in my relationship with Him. All of these people stood out and stood up to sin and by faith choose to follow God . Living by faith isn’t possible without the Holy Spirit as my guide, and even when I mess it up I have faith that I can bring it to God and repent and be forgiven.

  132. Kortney Chase says:

    Learning that my faith has to be strong even when God says “wait”.

  133. Patty Todd says:

    This is my first time to really read and try to understand this book. I have faith. God has been gracious to me and I know he will continue. I think there is a lot to learn from this book.
    I am quick to say I have faith when God is providing. But what about the faith when God says no, or we just don’t get an answer or feel like God is far away?

  134. Julie Brian says:

    By faith, God opened my womb for a baby girl, after trying 10 years. By faith, I married in my 30s (never had a boyfriend). He is faithful. This chapter helped me BELIEVE for things out of my control

  135. Krysti Mast says:

    I’ve read this before and I think I just really applied having big faith in big problems. From money issues to marriage or decision making such as a move or in today’s culture. But what about faith in the microscopic moments? When I’m loosing patients with my kids. When I can’t find what I’m looking for? Putting into practice of having micro moments of faith lead not only to having sooo many micro moments and adding them together is big faith but when big faith moments happen- my heart is prepared and well practiced.

    1. Sarah Hanna says:

      I love this response. I feel it on so many levels. I’m always feeling so overwhelmed and impatient. It’s really important to me that I find faithfulness in those microscopic moments as well. Thank you for sharing ❤️.

  136. Teena Oommen says:

    I have read this before. Favorite verse is the first verse

  137. Jordan Lucas says:

    This was my first time reading and taking the time to be in Gods word. In this passage I learned that by faith, Gods love and plans are bigger than we could imagine. The struggles we encounter seem impossible, but by faith in trusting Him, he turns the impossible to possible.

  138. Ladi Humphrey says:

    The faith that they had shows that no matter how small or big your faith is God appreciates and recognizes it . He will pour back into you even if you show the small bit of faith in him !

    1. Naomee Lois Gonzales says:

      Amen.

  139. Clara Boggs says:

    What stands out to me is that we must stop looking at situations from worldly view, which wants you to see what the end goal is and what you will gain or not gain, then deciding to do it or not. God plainly gives this author history of faith being active clear back to the beginning. We must look back to God, but forward in faith.

  140. Sara S says:

    I’ve read this passage before but with a quick eye and speedy heart many times. But taking a pause to dig into the “by faith” and understanding what verses (39-40) really point to this morning were what struck me anew.

    That looking at these stories of past faith, faith heroes if you will, and that some were victorious over circumstances while others were victorious under the circumstances was what caught me. They lived by faith based on a promise of a Messiah, and we have that promise fulfilled in Christ to give us even more reason to hold fast to faith in our circumstances daily.

  141. Elizabeth Darst says:

    I am so new to this, and this is the first time I have ever read this passage. It kind of opens your eyes to the word Faith and what it ACTUALLY means. I am really excited to see what I can learn through this lesson.

  142. Tearra Johnson says:

    This was my first time reading this passage

  143. Marcelinda Nastor says:

    Living in faith over fear because God is our living God who are faithful for His children.

  144. Natalie Green says:

    .

  145. Ruth Jones says:

    I’ve read this before. I’m just amazed by the struggles. And I’m thankful that they struggled and just kept on going. And sometimes I think about myself. If I was written into the story and what I have done by faith.

  146. Kaelyn Brown says:

    I have never read this passage until now! What I have gotten from this is that Faith is one of the most special things given to us. It is extraordinary that with faith we can do all things through him. If we believe and follow Jesus all the suffering and the battles were the path that allowed us to him!

  147. Sarah Tippetts says:

    I’ve read this before and this verse always sticks out to me … verse 1:11… it’s a reminder to me that things I prayed for and into may not come to fruition until after I pass but to still have faith.

  148. Candy Smith says:

    Read before- didn’t really notice before how each one had difficult circumstances and choices

  149. Audren Phalen says:

    I’ve read this chapter before, my preconceived notions/ideas about these people are that they are broken people that God chose to use in the Word.

  150. Helen Orr says:

    I love this passage. These heroes of the faith are amazing examples of how to trust and have hope in God and His plans especially when things seem uncertain, confusing or scary.

  151. Amber Bailey says:

    This really shows that if they can, I can too.

  152. Madison Stockard says:

    ♥️♥️♥️♥️

  153. Indyia Ford says:

    I have never read this passage before but there faith is one that was unwavering in times of distress. They did not care about the physical reward but the reward that God promised them in the afterlife after being faithful to him and trusting in his plan❤️ a lesson that we can all learn from. Staying strong in his word is what God asks of us ❤️

    1. Acelynn Golden says:

      Same I’ve never read this passage before. I lack in having faith with the Lord. But hearing and seeing all of these people in the Bible. Who probably wanted to give up and not believe in what God has in store for them was honestly moving. To keep having faith and to keep on believing that God has it all planned out for us.

  154. Carol King says:

    It is a beautiful chapter, I just read and I have a different look in my faith now too. As a believer in the word we have to have pure truth faith from the heart, mind, and soul to God, him alone. If all these characters in the Bible did what they were asked to do so we could do the same.

  155. Serena Wroblewski says:

    Hello everyone! I was wondering what translation do they use for these studies .

    1. Janna Klinghagen says:

      Usually CSB is the “go to”, however, often I find it helpful to use multiple translations to read and fully grasp the passages. It is important to understand how certain translations came to be; some are specifically designed for study and understanding using modern language and interpretation and some are specifically designed to to take original text (Greek, Latin, Hebrew etc.) and translate it into English as close as possible. The girls did a podcast awhile ago that I found particularly helpful in understanding how translations came to be and more historical insight to the different translations
      … if I can find the link I’ll try to post it to this string.

  156. Bridget Farrington says:

    this chapter helps me see that as long as i trust in the lord and follow the paths that he calls me to everything will be ok. i juss have to have faith in him that ill be ok

  157. Rebekah Wilson says:

    I’m in awe at their obedience despite not receiving the promise they thought they would, during their lifetimes.

  158. Sophia says:

    This study came along at the perfect time. I need to see examples of faith so mine can be renewed.

  159. Michaela Hawkins says:

    I’ve actually never read this passage in its entirety before. It’s both encouraging and bittersweet. Encouraging to see so many summarized examples of people who trusted in God so much that they did lot let the world get to them. Bittersweet because they had not received what they were expected to, but only because there was something BETTER coming. I’m really excited to dig into this study. Also, at least in the CSB, “By Faith” is repeated 22 times.

  160. Jacqi Teehan says:

    What I saw this time that I’ve never seen before was none of those in the hall of faith received what was promised; they saw it afar off. They received something much greater from God. So the phrase about something coming about on the backs of those that come before us is so very true.

  161. Kelly Close says:

    Wow

  162. Melissa Richards says:

    Amen

  163. Melissa Richards says:

    Father in y, give me the same faith

  164. Amy EB says:

    I assumed the people listed as heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11 would be kind of like a hall of fame. Only the best known, most loved, winningest people included. But there were some names that surprised me (I clearly hadn’t read this passage recently). Some of them don’t always get the most attention. They aren’t perfect people. And some of them are women, in a time and place where women were not always celebrated. So many different people who lived out their faith in so many different ways.

  165. Katelyn Welgraven says:

    I struggle so hard with perfectionism and this chapter always shows me that I do not had to be perfect in order for God to love me. He worked through all of these people even though they weren’t perfect, because that isn’t what matters. What matters was that they were willing to follow him even if they didn’t know where it led

  166. Jennifer W says:

    God will not fault us, we need to have and show faith in Him. It may not be the outcome we want, but He knows our path and we must trust Him to lead us.

  167. Harriet Tamminga says:

    It truly makes me realize the depth of the word “faith”

  168. Chloe Knieriem says:

    Even those that are imperfect are used by God! It’s such a great reminder!

  169. Tacila Da Silva says:

    I feel like this chapter really highlights the theme of purpose over perfection. These people were not perfect, but they were filled with the purpose of God and the desire and obedience to blindly follow Him, even during the hardest times. It’s easy to commit to something when life is going really well and things seem easy, but faith is knowing that you will still enter and face battles, some that you may feel you’ll never recover from, but that God is our strength. Our faith is our strength. He never promised life would be easy or perfect but that life with Him would be PURPOSEFUL. Man, I needed to here this today! ❤️

    1. Mary says:

      I really like that summary, Tacila. “Purpose over perfection.” None of these people were perfect; not the obvious ones like Samson and Rahab, and not the role models we think of from this chapter like David and Abraham. But God, in His sovereignty, invited all of them to participate in carrying out His plan. He’s the one who gives purpose and He doesn’t once ask for perfection.

      1. Krysti Mast says:

        Love the Purpose over perfection. That hit me deep!

  170. Juliet Masenya says:

    Honestly, I’ve been overwhelmed and overthinking lately to a point where I started losing my faith in Christ, as I slowly started to build my faith in him I believe that this is the best platform to do just that.

  171. Hannah Mousaw says:

    It stood out to me this morning that, although every person listed also had significant failures, the author doesn’t feel the need to recount them. The author didn’t say, “even though David committed adultery and murdered someone to cover it up, he acted faithfully in these ways.” Because that’s not what faith is about. It’s not about scales and measures, acts of faithfulness weighed against acts of unfaithfulness. It’s about our perfectly capable and faithful Heavenly Father in whom our lives are hidden. I have a feeling this is going to be a theme for how God wants to take me deeper into his love during this study of Hebrews 11.

  172. Brittany Jones says:

    I feel like saying you have faith is so much easier said and then when bad things happen it gets tested.. it’s something I so badly need to work on. Seeing how many stories there is in the Bible though that people trusted and had faith and they ALL came through the other side. There will NEVER be a story of failure when trusting the Lord.

  173. Lara Castillo says:

    When I read about the Hall of Faith I always think that the people there are so exceptional, above and beyond a regular person like me, even though I know that the Bible is filled with regular people who believe in God and follow and obey Him. Which results in God doing amazing things! I pray that I could have faith to follow and obey Him all of my days.

  174. Candyce Abbott says:

    This came at the perfect time. As I have been feeling my faith being challenged this has brought purpose back into my heart and restored my fight. Thank you for this bible study.

  175. Anna Johnson says:

    I tell others to live by faith, but, I need to work on this myself!

    1. Candyce Abbott says:

      Me too!!

  176. Nidal Pascoe says:

    What their goals were was the focus. It was never about them but about the Father and His promises that are not of this world but of the next

  177. Nicole Firing says:

    I feel like these are always good reminders that these people were not perfect, but their faith provided them a “blanket” of protection where their flesh failed them. What a merciful God to write about them for their faith and not their mistakes- what if I took that posture about those around me- what if I were more willing to see people as God sees them and not as the world sees them

  178. Marie Cooper says:

    After reading this, it gives me a different perspective on faith. I now believe in order to have the same pure true faith, you have to be selfless. Because in every situation, the person that had the faith, didn’t see their promises. Yet, they continued in their Faith. Their faith was for us, for everyone after them. They did it, so we could. Which would be no different for us! We have the faith so that others can. Whether it’s family, generationally, community, whomever. So we can’t get weary because we don’t see it for ourselves in the way we may think it will come.

  179. Isabelle Davis says:

    Reading this very familiar beautiful chapter, it feels like those are the role model of what faith is supposed to look like – and sometimes it’s achievable because I know these people and all they’ve done and messed up on ; but for the most part it’s just such a high standard. All of their stakes were just so high. But it sets an example for us.

  180. Amelie Weise says:

    It’s so simple to describe to none belibers

  181. Carmen Chu-Villanueva says:

    First time community reading so I’m not sure what to expect but am excited to share. I have only read one verse in this chapter before which was verse 13. One thing that stood out to me was that the faith these people had were pure. It was hope that most of the world would say it is blind but it isn’t. There was evidence from things that happened previously that pushed them to have such an unwavering, pure faith that many of us sometimes wish we had. But we can’t compare each other because we all had our struggles at some point. We are all imperfect.
    Excited to continue.

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Welcome, Carmen; thanks for sharing! ❤

  182. Kristi Culbreth says:

    Hard to not read 12:1-2 after!

    1. Heather Macomber says:

      Thanks for highlighting this! So powerful!

  183. Malykka Oliver says:

    I’d say the key thing that God highlighted to me is that as imperfect as all the people were that were mentioned in Hebrews 11, God is perfect and the point he made is it was all by faith in God. Because without faith it is impossible to please God. Hebrews 11:6 (also God highlighted Moses to me) one of the things in my life well especially this year has been somewhat of a slavery. My continuous death to self (Luke 9:23) has been somewhat of a slavery only this year because its been like Moses or job. Being transformed by the renewing of my mind (Romans 12:2) so that I may be holy & acceptable unto Christ. I honor God for making me like Moses and/or Job and I won’t complain.

  184. Michelle Kiningham says:

    Hi everyone! I’m new here and was actually just baptized last month! I’m 34 and have never really read the Bible until starting to go to church a little over a year ago. I don’t have much insight to add just wanted to share that I’m so thankful for SRT to help me gain a deeper understanding of GODs word and to help me grow my faith in the lord. I hope everyone had a wonderful day ❤️

    1. Dee Dee says:

      Welcome Michelle and congratulations on being recently baptized! I don’t comment real often but I read and pray regularly. This is a great group and I am sure God will use this to help you grow in your faith! God bless you and thanks for sharing!❤️

    2. Kimberly Reed says:

      How wonderful Michelle! ♥️

  185. Chelsi Hamilton says:

    Reading Hebrews 11 — it calls me to examine the parts of my heart that desire perfection. None of these people mentioned in Hebrews were perfect.

    1. Malykka Oliver says:

      I love this

  186. Mari V says:

    Good evening, beautiful sisters, I have gone back several times to read the comments from my post and I responded under my name if you like to read that. I love you so much!

  187. C Peters says:

    Walk by faith and not by sight. Have faith in the Lord ord and he will guide you…

  188. Natasha R says:

    The Hall of Faith! I love Hebrews 11. It probably has the most highlights and sidenotes in my entire Bible. Each person mentioned is an example of how an imperfect human is blessed and sustained by their faith in a perfect God. ❤️❤️❤️

    I am looking forward to this study, but I have to say I am rather disappointed that it seems there will be no devotionals and just the same questions

  189. Maria Baer says:

    I think we have a preconceived notion about what giving faith is, and at times we can fall victims to the trap that a faithful life, is a life without problems. When in reality, a life of faith, if truly putting it all on God and leaning on Jesus

  190. Peace Akhigbe says:

    Wow. Reading this i am amazed how they trusted God even in days were it didn’t look real.

  191. Adrianne says:

    If you’ve heard or read this chapter of Scripture before, what ideas or preconceived notions do you have about the people who are listed here?

    We read Hebrews back in 2022 (had tp look that up), so that means…I barely remember it (insert embarrassing cries of shame here) I do remember lots of the people and events mentioned in this chapter from other parts of the Bible I’ve read with SRT.

    I guess the preconceived notions that I have about the other people or events that I don’t remember or don’t know, is that there is going to be a rocky journey/story we’re gonna hear that will show us another side of glory and love from our Father or teach us just how much we still need to learn and grow in our faith.

  192. Claire Rouse says:

    They illustrate that the prayer is not to ask “take me out of this suffering,” but instead “what is God teaching me through this suffering?”

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Amen!

    2. Reba Morris says:

      I love this!!

  193. Sara Bailey says:

    Looking forward to getting deeper into this study.

  194. Jade Gaines says:

    When I read this chapter, it makes me think of Steve Harvey’s speech “Faith is the evidence of things hoped for, not seen”. This chapter shows how faith connects us to a higher, intangible world beyond the one we’re living in. These people realized that this life was suffering and even though they may not have lived in the rewards they were promised. They saw their rewards and those rewards were already claimed as theirs once they committed to their heavenly calling. This earth is not our home. We are citizen of an intangible, invisible kingdom. Faith makes a fool of what makes sense so even through every trial and error and every doubt we are actively building that kingdom piece by piece and bringing invisible experiences and things into this tangible world. We receive the promise when we choose to trust in faith

  195. Jennifer Anapol says:

    As I ready about these heroes of the faith, I am reminded that their lives were far from easy. Many times God came through in amazing ways, but sometimes he didn’t. Even when God didn’t show up in the way they may have wanted him to, they still believed and followed after him. I pray I would have that kind of faith.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      Hey Jennifer! Good to “see” you!

    2. Tina says:

      Hello Jennifer. long time, lovely to see you.❤

  196. Leslie Littleton says:

    The biggest preconceived notion I have about each of these hero’s of the faith is that they didn’t mess up. But when I really think about it I know that’s not true. Most of them at some point or another questioned or doubted. But even so, their faith prevailed and God used them in mighty ways! Lord, forgive me when I doubt. Increase my faith. Use me as an earthen vessel to further Your kingdom. Amen.

  197. Michelle Jones says:

    God uses broken people for so many reasons. Those blessings are abundant.

  198. Ginny K says:

    I remember many have fought a harder fight than me! They encourage me to move on in the power of His might and my faith.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      Yes, Amen! I like that answer!

  199. Annie says:

    After reading this chapter, I think about the strength of these people’s faith and reliance on God. The years and years and moments of suffering and doubt they must have gone through. And yet, God still provided. Even in our darkest moments, I pray each of us will remember that beyond our understanding God is faithful and always will be.

  200. Sophie Mitchum says:

    Morning She’s! “ But faith.. “ . This scripture makes me think of my daughter. At a few hours old we were told she required open heart surgery to save her life. In those times of uncertainty my faith was my foundation. When we endure suffering people will always say “ look how strong you are “ or “ I don’t know how you do it “.. my answer is always FAITH. I would be lost without it.

  201. Donna Mitchell says:

    Awesome reminder of “Favor for the Faithful”! This a great reminder of how God blesses us, our children and generations even when we fall short.

  202. Ashlie Glendening says:

    I always forget that these people had BIG faith before the messiah was even here to be the fulfillment of the law! A lot of them never even saw their promise on this side of heaven. V 38-40 really summed it up well – The world was not worthy of them. They wanderers in deserts and on mountains, hiding in caves & holes in the ground. All these were approved through their faith, but did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us.

  203. Jenny Mangio says:

    Sometimes I forget that these people were just like us- they didn’t think of themselves as heroes, like we think of them now. They grabbed with Gods call on their lives and followed the best they could and yet we see their faith as remarkable. It’s a reminder to me that even steps of faith that others don’t see, God sees. And little faith can actually be big.

  204. LindaK says:

    Regarding the faith heroes listed here I see that their belief in God was backed up by their faith(action).

  205. Nicole Powell says:

    When I read this scripture it brings me so much peace and comfort knowing that all these people at one time question God but still trusted him it let’s me know that it’s okay to question God but still trust him and have faith

    1. Victoria E says:

      Amen. Nicole I feel the same way!

  206. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

    “Being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.”
    And my hope & prayer that this could one day be said of me.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    I so love how God used ordinary, everyday people to accomplish His work and His will. It is an honor to be a part of this family of faith – which we all are as believers in Jesus Christ. One day we will stand shoulder to shoulder with each one mentioned here…I can imagine how “small” I’ll feel next to them. But God – He sees us all in the same light, His children – washed in the blood of the lamb. Praise God!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Happy Monday sweet she’s! And thank you for all the prayers lifted for Jeff – today he had his LAST treatment!! Thank you God! – I posted a photo on the FB page of him ringing the bell to commemorate being finished.

    1. Cee Gee says:

      ❤❤❤❤ Yay, Jeff!!!

    2. Dee Dee says:

      Such good news! Have a great trip and I always appreciate your wisdom!

    3. Rhonda J. says:

      Oh Hallelujah!! Praise God!! I can’t wait to see the picture!!

    4. Tina says:

      Yes, Jeff’s face is a picture as he rings the bell. Praise God. Enjoy your trip, sending you some hugs covered in prayers for a God present, wonderful time away, Sharon.❤

  207. Arlene says:

    What always stands out to me every time I read this chapter are the last 2 verses
    “All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭39‬-‭40‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    We will all receive the promise of perfection together, at the same time, with all those listed in this chapter. This just blows me away.
    Happy Thanksgiving Monday from Canada.

    1. Lynn F says:

      Happy Thanksgiving Arlene! I live in BC.
      What stands out to me in these verses is that we each walk a unique journey with the Lord. Some did amazing things through faith but others suffered greatly and were commended for their faith. Yet they didn’t receive what was promised. They were all faithful but their lives were very different.

  208. Sarah Ritchie says:

    Praying for you Taylor! For both peace and discernment.

  209. Miranda Fazio says:

    Sometimes I forget that many of them did not see relief until the end of their lives. Living in a “happily ever after” culture can leave us feeling depleted when that doesn’t happen and can make us question the goodness of God, so I’m thankful for these examples.

    1. Cee Gee says:

      So true! ❤

  210. Sarah Ritchie says:

    I could not love your post more Rhonda!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

      I’m like…she mean me or is there another Rhonda (thinking face!) I will see as I read through ALL these comments! Wow…lots of She’s in this study!! Fabulous..PRAISE GOD!!

  211. Courtney says:

    I think what’s interesting is that as I read this, I’m reminded how messy each of their lives were.  They didn’t live these pristine lives that were clean and perfect.  They each made dumb mistakes, had moments of not trusting, and their lives just didn’t look like someone that God would use in mighty ways.  That reminds me of how messy my life feels but I do see God’s use of me even though I don’t understand it.  Also, the fact that most of them didn’t see the full promise come to pass in their lifetime is so interesting as well.  God’s ways are not our ways.  I’m grateful for that!

    1. Cassie says:

      Yes Courtney, so glad He loves us even when we feel like a mess! :)

    2. Alison May says:

      I agree. We all have messy lives from time to time and God is so faithful.

  212. Aimee Jones says:

    What pillars to stand on! I think today we can feel like our comfortable lives don’t allow opportunities to display such faith. But it takes a lot of courage to have faith in the small things as well. How can we expect to have great life-changing world changing faith in the big times, when we fail so often in the little times. I guess what I’m saying is, it’s important to exercise faith in every day-to-day decision so we can be ready when life brings bigger mountains to climb.

  213. Cee Gee says:

    Sisters, I am loving your personal reflections and prayers on these passages. Lots of reading for my brain on a Monday morning. LOL Actually, I read through it last night when I realized it was posted early and again this morning. As always, I see something different each time. That’s a living God speaking to me/us!
    I do not do well with reflection questions, but I can say that I have read this chapter many times and always felt that their faith was so big because the role God called them to was big with eternal consequences.
    What if Noah had not built the ark?
    What if Moses had stayed at the palace? etc.
    I always like to ponder on who in the New Testament would make this list! I have a few quotes condensed from long commentaries. In both sections, the caps/emphasis is mine.
    From Warren Wiersbe:
    FAITH enables us to SEE what others cannot see..
    FAITH enables us to DO what others cannot do.
    The TESTS OF FAITH become more DIFFICULT as we walk with God, yet
    The REWARDS become more WONDERFUL!
    FAITH can operate in the life of ANY PERSON who will dare to LISTEN to GODs WORD and SURRENDER to God’s WILL.

    From John MacArthur
    TRUE FAITH is not based on empirical EVIDENCE, but on DIVINE ASSURANCE and
    is a GIFT OF GOD.
    True SAVING FAITH works in OBEDIENCE to God.
    On verse 40, MacArthur says:
    The faith of OT saints looked forward to the promised salvation, whereas the faith of those after Christ looks back to the fulfillment of the promise. Both groups are characterized by genuine faith and are saved by Christ’s atoning work on the cross (cf. Eph. 2:8, 9).
    And finally, from Got Questions
    Faith, being the substance of things hoped for, is also an outward force. Possessing the reality of hope supplies believers with the motivation to endure trials and hardships. It results in decisive obedience—the kind that caused the ancient heroes of faith to act upon their hope. Faith, as the substance of things hoped for, activates believers to preach boldly, pray unceasingly, love unconditionally, serve compassionately, and work tirelessly “as long as it is day” (John 9:4). The inward substance of faith moves our hearts while the external reality moves mountains.

    Have a wonderful week, sisters! Praying for those outstanding needs and looking forward to praises to come!
    Thankful for all the new names along with the regulars!
    VIcKI M – so glad you decided to be VISIBLE! Love the way you summed things up for us! <3
    My computer doesn't give me the red heart so I have to settle for this little black one! <3

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Oops, I meant t mention the old hymn Have Faith in God!
      Have Faith in God
      [1]
      Have faith in God when your pathway is lonely,
      He sees and knows all the way you have trod;
      Never alone are the least of His children;
      Have faith in God, have faith in God.

      [Chorus]
      Have faith in God, He’s on His throne;
      Have faith in God, He watches o’er His own;
      He cannot fail, He must prevail;
      Have faith in God, have faith in God.

      [2]
      Have faith in God when your prayers are unanswered,
      Your earnest plea He will never forget;
      Wait on the Lord, trust His Word and be patient,
      Have faith in God, He’ll answer yet.
      Chorus
      Have faith in God in your pain and your sorrow,
      His heart is touched with your grief and despair;
      Cast all your cares and your burdens upon Him,
      And leave them there, oh, leave them there.
      Chorus
      Have faith in God though all else fail about you;
      Have faith in God, He provides for His own;
      He cannot fail though all kingdoms shall perish,
      He rules, He reigns upon His throne.

      [Chorus]
      Have faith in God, He’s on His throne;
      Have faith in God, He watches o’er His own;
      He cannot fail, He must prevail;
      Have faith in God, have faith in God.
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~
      In looking for those lyrics, I saw a song by Hillsong with the same title – had never heard it. Partial lyrics:
      Have faith in God
      Let your hope rest on the faith
      He has placed in your heart
      Never give up
      Never let go of the faith
      He has placed in your heart
      Oh Lord You guide me
      Through all the darkness
      Turning my night into day
      You’ll never leave me
      Never forsake me
      The power of the presence of God.
    2. Rhonda J. says:
      Good stuff, thank you CeeGee!
      1. Cee Gee says:
        ❤ welcome! Just seeing more info in FL – in particular Fort Myers! I just said to my husband that the more I see the more certain I am that God heard our prayers for the safety of you and your home!!! Praising Him again and again!
    3. Vicki M says:
      Thank you CeeGee. And I love what you shared. ❤️
      1. Cee Gee says:
        Most welcome, Vicki!❤
  214. Blessed Mama of 6 says:
    Something that I don’t know if I’ve noticed before is that this Hall of Faith starts with us. Verse 3, “By faith WE understand….”
    Abel- the second born of Adam and Eve. He offered the best of his flock to God as an offering. Which God accepted, because of this, Cain killed him.
    Enoch-was a devout man of God and walked with Him. He never died, God just took him away.
    Noah-a man with a strong faith in God. Had three sons. In his time, there was no one else righteous, so God told Noah to build an ark, which he did. Despite all of the backlash he probably would have received, Noah was obedient and built this huge ark. Only Noah, his family and two of each kind of animal (7 for the sacrificial animals) were saved from the great flood which covered the entire earth, killing everything on earth. Noah had to have faith that God was going to send the flood. He had to have faith that they weren’t going to die in the flood or on the ark. He had to have faith that they and all the animals had enough food to last for the amount of time they were to be on the ark. He had to have faith that God was going to get them all off the boat. He had to have faith that whenever it rained, it wouldn’t turn into a flood again.
    Abraham-God called him to move away from the rest of his family to a location he knew nothing about. God also called him into a forever covenant with Him involving his descendants when Abraham was old and had no children. Then when he did have a son, God called him to sacrifice that son, his only son to bear his inheritance.
    Sarah (the first woman mentioned)-half sister of Abraham. Gave birth to Isaac even when she was past child rearing age.
    When I initially think about this Hall of Faith chapter, I usually do not think about Sarah being a part of it. I love how the CSB phrases it “By faith EVEN Sarah….”
    Isaac-the only son of Abraham and Sarah. He was offered as a sacrifice by his father, but spared at the last minute. He had twin boys, but favored the older one. When blind he blessed who he thought was Esau even though the voice sounded like Jacob. Then sent him away to live with and find a wife amongst their relatives.
    Jacob- Was born grasping his brother’s heel. He deceived his brother into giving him the birthright when his brother was super hungry. He, along with his mother, deceived both his brother and father for the first born blessing. He had 12 sons. When he was dying he blessed Joseph’s sons instead of Joseph and had the higher blessing upon the younger son.
    Joseph-had dreams and visions since a young age. He was thrown into a well by his brothers, then sold by them to Egyptians. He worked for and won the favor of an official of Pharaoh but was later accused of lust and thrown into prison. He won favor with the jailor and interpreted the dreams of two of Pharaoh’s officials, then later Pharaoh’s dreams. He became the second in command and saved the country during their 7 years of famine. He welcomed his brothers back into his life and invited them to live by him. He had insight into the time of the exodus and the hardships that his descendants were going to face before leaving Egypt.
    Moses-As a baby was hidden in a basket amongst the reeds of the Nile…the very river other babies his age were being drowned in. He grew up as the son of the Egyptian Princess, but gave that all up to be back with his people. He went through a time of wandering himself before living with a family in Midian. God called him from a burning bush to return to Egypt to request of Pharaoh that the Israelites be set free. God used him to send the 10 plagues, to part the red sea, to have water come from a rock, to send manna and quail. God gave him the 10 commandments (along with other instructions for living) while they were wandering in the desert for 40 years. God let Moses see into the promised land, but he couldn’t enter it. Later God put Moses, along with Elijah in the middle of the promised land during Jesus’ transfiguration.
    The Israelites-marched around the walls of Jericho under the leadership of Joshua.
    Rahab (the second woman mentioned)-let the spies stay in her Jericho home, and let them down through her window. Then lived with the Israelites after the destruction of the rest of Jericho. She had to have faith that her and her family wouldn’t be destroyed as the walls (she lived along the wall) came crumbling down.
    Gideon-making wine as he was hiding. But God used him to deliver the Israelites from their enemies with only 300 soldiers.
    Barak, Samson, Jephthah-God used all three of these men to help deliver His people from their oppressors.
    David-The Shepard boy who defeated and killed a giant using a stone. The second king of Israel with big plans for a temple.
    Samuel and the prophets- leading God’s people to himself.
    All of these OT people knew of God’s promise and that there was something, someOne better who was to come, yet they never saw or experienced Him.
    But we get to experience Christ!
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      And right there you just summed up WHY it is SO IMPORTANT to read the Bible, and know all these stories because there are SO many stories of hardship and problems that when WE hit those turbulent times we have to know these and understand that we are not called to the easy good life, which is what western culture has come to know. Our kids here only know to “succeed” is to have money. It’s really sad. BUT–when we grow up knowing and realizing Gods perfect plan, we can have faith through everything!! It’s so Amazing! Thank you for listing them because now I can just copy your summation!! I always point to hardships that are in the Bible to my jail ladies to have faith and know God is there and working all things. Not in their way, but His way!
      1. Carol J Mylin says:
        ♥️
      2. Blessed Mama of 6 says:
        Haha, you’re welcome!
        So true and Amen! God never said a life following after Him was going to be easy. But He did say He would be with us!
        If you want to copy it go for it. I was just trying to answer the question as to what I already knew about the people mentioned in chapter 11.
  215. Rachel says:
    Good morning! One of the things that stands out to me in that list is that God does not see what I see in people! Samson? I would not have put him in the ”Hall of Faith”! Another thing that I noticed was that a lot of the people mentioned were afraid – but they obeyed, anyway. Lord, even when my faith is faltering and feeble, take it and use it for your glory!
  216. Britt says:
    For me, this is a reminder that God desires faith and not works. The people listed were simply obedient because of their faith in the one who holds all things together.
  217. Cathie Moynihan says:
    There’s a great series of articles about those who sacrificed themselves for their beliefs.
    https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/the-florentine-forerunner?utm_campaign=Here+We+Stand+%282024%29&utm_content=Day+3&utm_medium=cio&utm_source=email
    A new person each day for 31 days.
    1. Sandy L says:
      I love Desiring God!
  218. Jody Striker says:
    I think I forget that these were ordinary men and women who gave their weak yes to God. I also feel stirred to desire Gods kingdom more than the things that I can obtain here on earth. I’m excited to study these believers in more depth!
  219. Cheryl Blow says:
    I’ve read this chapter before. Today what stood out to me was “of whom the world was not worthy.” This is a good statement about our heroes of faith in God. They were not perfect but they keep their faith in God even in tough times! I pray that we will all keep our eyes on things above and not on things of this world. Stand firm, ladies!
    Praying for all! Praying for those of you still struggling through the hurricanes damage!
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      Amen Cheryl! I was just commenting that America is more and more coming against Christians. But I don’t even feel like Christians are seeing it!! There are persecutions all the time this last few years but news doesn’t cover them. I’m afraid we are not going to see until too late. But the remnant will be there! The road is narrow folks. Few will go, the masses will not. Don’t be stuck in LaLa land of American Church! And western world faith, that it’s all well and good. It’s time to “Put Your Warrior Boots,” I suggest you look that book up and get it!
  220. Claire B says:
    I am sad to see the structure for this selection. I was so hopeful for more commentary than my thoughts.
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      Hey Claire B! Good to see you! And yes, you said out loud my first thoughts, lol. I am always disappointed when it is a study without devotionals to sum it up for me!!
      1. Blessed Mama of 6 says:
        I’m in the same boat, yet for today, I know it did me a lot of good to pause and work through all that I know about the stories of these men and women (I included these in a comment).
      2. Claire B says:
        Hey, Rhonda, that is why I drop out sometimes. That and recycling past devotionals. I know there are people who haven’t done previous studies. But for those of us who have been here from the beginning or in my case before it was this version of SRT, before Amanda even, it is a let down. Re-doing a book or chapter in the Bible is great IF you introduce new insights instead of recycling old devotionals. JMHO others may feel differently. Honestly the style for Hebrews of no devotionals something I don’t need SRT for. I can read & contemplate on my own. The devotional part is crucial. Rant over.
    2. Catherine says:
      Same here
    3. Sarah Ritchie says:
      It is always very disappointing to me also when there is no devotional. We all have our own bibles. I don’t need to pay for a reprinting of scripture. Sigh.
      1. Claire B says:
        Thank you, I am thankful someone else thinks this.
      2. Natasha R says:
        I’m on the same boat. Sigh.
  221. Kalli Huehn says:
    Verse 39 completely throws me. Why would God withhold promises from ANYONE? I can’t wait to dive into in.
    1. Michelle P says:
      It may be referring to an eternal reward (stored up in heaven for when we are with Christ after death or when He returns) – the things we receive in faith but don’t receive in the flesh. Just a thought. :)
    2. Margaret W. says:
      Maybe the promises weren’t so much withheld as delayed? That is the sense I get from verse 40.
  222. Caroline Bridges says:
    The words “By Faith” repeated a lot. They all have a theme of following God’s calling to them. I’ve heard parts of it out loud, but had never read it all the way through at once.
  223. Mari V says:
    What stood out this morning was verse 13 “All these people were still living by faith when they died……” I want to be that person! Still living by faith till the day I take my last breath. I’m in a situation as “legally-separated” and I find it interesting the beliefs of my circle of fellow believers. Some believe I have grounds for divorce others do not (and “are” nice about it). Sigh….I want to be obedient to those entrusted by the Church (pastors/elders) who are therefore entrusted by God, that I am being guided in a correct and truthful manner. My human nature wants a divorce not so that I’m free to marry, but that I am free from the man I once called husband who was verbally and emotionally and sometimes physically abusive. BUT GOD…I want what God wants more.
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      You can’t stay married to someone like that, it is not God’s will for you to be emotionally abused. He is not a man of God if he is doing that. That is narcissism and not of God. You need to move forward, and you can’t do that tied to him. That is my strong opinion. God CAN change hearts and will, but if the one is not willing to be changed, you are free to leave. We need strong Christian unions that point to Jesus and the church.
      1. Mari V says:
        Love you Rhonda. I can “hear” your love for me, as I do many others.
        1. Cathy McVey says:
          Mari, I have followed your story and your heart as long as you have shared with us. I too, was in a physically, emotionally, and verbally abusive marriage for 10 years. I was raised to believe that marriage was final and that there were not many reasons for divorce. I blamed myself for getting involved with a man that abused me before we were even married. I tried leaving him multiple times and every time was coerced back through either “love” or mostly fear of what would happen if I didn’t. The abuse always continued. Until he started physically abusing my children at 4 and 5 years old. Then I found the faith and the courage to escape with my children. God opened doors to me that I didn’t even know existed to get me out of that situation. People took us into their homes instead of having us go to a shelter which I gladly would have. I did divorce that man and never looked back. God sent me a wonderful man who adopted my two children and raised them as his own. We have been married 36 years. Just keep trusting in God and following his will for you. FAITH is a big concept when we don’t know what the right thing to do. But God will never let you down. Sending hugs and much love to you!❤️
          1. Rhonda J. says:
            Oh what a testimony Catherine!! (I learn more and more to love about you all the time!! lol)
      2. Blessed Mama of 6 says:
        Matthew 5:32- But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
        While I do not condone abuse of any kind, I applaud you Mari V for sticking true to your convictions! Keep seeking after God. Have faith in Him, lean into Him and He will guide you. I know of a couple who were legally separated for many years (I forget how many), but God changed both of their hearts, reconciled them, and brought them back together!!!
    2. Sarah Ritchie says:
      Mari, I have been reading your posta for years. You have a faithful and obedient heart. In my mind there is never and will never be a rationale for you willingly subjecting yourself to abuse. Period. Just my two cents. Thank you for sharing openly you help others with your story
    3. Margaret W. says:
      Pastor Patrick Weaver goes through many of the Scriptures about divorce and abuse on his Facebook group. If you have not seen his page and want a biblical interpretation of many of the scriptures that have been used against domestic abuse victims, I cannot recommend his teachings enough. Of course, there are many other excellent ones, too.
      1. Mari V says:
        Margaret… I looked Patrick Weaver. Read his testimony about when he tells the story about his mother. Two statements stood out when he says: “They can’t leave, you have to escape for them”. (talking about our children )
        And “Don’t stay for your children, leave for your children”. In July 2017, I did just that! I knew the day I left, I was never going back. And I stand true to my word only because of my precious Jesus who gave me the strength to do it. Got involved with celebrate recovery, set boundaries, and my healing process began. Jesus gets all the glory! Whenever I run into women or young ladies heading in that direction, I immediately tell them to take a 180° turn because it’s not going change. What happened to me did not go in vain but now it’s for God’s glory that I get to share with young ladies my story so that they don’t waste precious years on a roller coaster that leads nowhere. My Jesus is my everything to me! He is why I am here today!
    4. Mari V says:
      BEAUTIFUL She’s!!! My sisters. I feel SO loved by all of you!!! Your continued support and love for me is beyond words! I feel so loved knowing that you are been walking this journey with me from many years. And my kids? I can’t say enough about them. They support and love me so much! And the three of us us are so close. I’m so blessed got the good end of the deal with my two beautiful children! I can’t imagine my life without them.
      Thank you so much for loving on me and praying for me.
  224. Linda J says:
    As I read the list of the faithful who changed the world I’m reminded that each of them persevered in faith but made mistakes and at times failed to stay on the path. Yet their names and actions are detailed in God’s word. It gives me hope and the comfort that God can and does work through the mess of my life. I’m so thankful for His grace and mercy as I often find myself falling short. But I can also see what God has done in and through me for His glory. Amazing to think I and we sisters can stand alongside the heroes of the faith. Thank you Lord❤️
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      Yes, so good Linda! As usual, you all can sum it up so much better than my long winded words!
  225. Jane K says:
    Good morning. Enoch’s faith stood out because verses 5-6 say he was commended as having pleased God. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him, but I want to please my God in all I do!
  226. Rhonda J. says:
    GM-
    I love Hebrews-the hall of faith! It shows us all these GREAT heroes of the Bible, their examples and heroic efforts to follow an unseen God, albeit imperfect and doubting at times, and bouts of weakness. It reminds me of the time of going through my devastating divorce. I was heartbroken and sad, yet hoping God could change his heart. When I realized that wasn’t going to happen (why not God…isn’t that your way? What you God would want?) Unfortunately you learn you can’t control others. But my trust remained in God. I would say…Yes I know God will work all things for my good, but I just want to get to the other side sooner than later! But did I wait on God…No..I tried to fanagle things on my own, then stop, refocus on God…then do things my way again, then stop refocus on God. Over and over, I was weak and impatient. But God…I WAS building my faith AND my testimony even when it didn’t look perfect and was far from perfect in obedient and trust. I was trusting, but still steering the wheel. I would hope if it happened again, and everything in my life shattered, at THIS point in my faith I would turn it ALL over to him!? But would I/we? I don’t know.
    I do know we have our own Hall of Faith She’s HERE! Here for us to look to, to glean from! We see their journey in years past, the things thrown at them- Loss, sickness, problems and afflictions—and they show us their doubts and unsteadiness, yet they are here praying and trusting with their sisters in Christ. It is beautiful! It is reassuring! It is faith building! We NEED community to be Hall of Famers! We need to see each other’s hope and unwavering desire to keep their eyes on Jesus in the hard. It doesn’t mean we don’t have doubts and struggles, but it means we are human, but we have a hope and a future in our Jesus.
    Glad to see lots of new names and to study Hebrews together!
    1. Arlene says:
      I agree, so many stories of faith among our She’s, those that comment often and those that follow along silently but we all have stories that God has not finished writing yet.
      1. Cee Gee says:
        Reminds me of the song He’s Still Writing Your Story by Tauren Wells:
        (Smidgen of the lyrics at the end)
        God’s not done with you
        It’s not over, it’s only begun
        So don’t hide, don’t run
        ‘Cause God’s not done
        With you, you, you, you.
        You, you
        No, He’s not done
        God’s not done with you
        “God is still writing your story, and He will surely finish what He started in you (Philippians 1:6). Please don’t lose hope and surrender it all to Jesus. Just trust the process because He is making you in this breaking season. Trust His love because He loves you more than what you think. He still has far greater things in store ahead of you.”
        1. Cee Gee says:
          That last quote came up when I was looking for those lyrics. Never used that site, (Christianity Learning), but good quote.
  227. Traci Gendron says:
    I’m sorry I always go back to my son, but I knew he was dying. If I would have left my faith I don’t know how I would have endured it. I knew God was not going to give me the miracle I prayed for. For physical healing. But I still prayed and had faith in Him helping me through.
    1. Mari V says:
      Sweet Traci please no need to be sorry. Oh sweet sisters….sending you a tight hug! We love you!
    2. Rhonda J. says:
      No we love to hear your heart in that awful tough situation. I have a hard time when I know people are dying to know how to pray…I know we should people praying for healing and expecting, yet…we all have to die. And when I die, I’m gonna be happy to die to go to the heavenly kingdom we all want to dwell, yet it’s my love ones that are going to be sad and heart-broken and thinking God didn’t answer their prayers. It is complex and tricky. We just have to trust that God already knew are days, FOR a PURPOSE He foreknew. And that is where are faith is put to the fire. YOU TRACY are a beautiful faith Hero!!
    3. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:
      Sweet Traci – never be sorry for bringing up your son. We are blessed to have known him through knowing you. It’s the memories and references to him, that keep him “alive” in your heart – and ours. ❤️
      1. R says:
        Traci as I’ve mentioned before I’ve been silently reading with this community for 5 years and I have followed you and Tanners’s story! Your
        testimony and comments
        have built my faith
        especially as my own
        daughter is battling
        an auto immune disorder that we’ve been suspicious she had for years but the diagnosis has now been confirmed! Your courage, your tears and fortitude have taught me that without
        faith it is impossible to please Him! Please
        don’t apologize, we need your testimony and we need to keep Tanner’s memory green
        because his faith and
        courage is STILL helping so many people!!!
        1. Tina says:
          So so beautifully said, R! I absolutely second comment!
          Traci, your story and testimony is important and your faith through your story and journey with Tanner is what is making you one of the ‘Heroes of faith’ in this time love you, Traci, sending hugs to you!❤
  228. Melissa says:
    We’ve been doing Hebrews 11-13 for the last year in our ladies Bible study (using an old Spurgeon book). Excited to dig deeper still.
  229. Teresa B says:
    Each had a moment of faith and God showed up. Their lives were transformed.
    It is harder still to have faith and press on, when God does not provide what you believe you need. Trusting HIM in the silence and continuing to pray.
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      yes, so true!! Faith of a mustard seed. Faith in the hard, faith in the unknown.
    2. Arlene says:
      Trusting Him in the silence is very hard but that is what faith is. When God seems silent He speaks to us through His word and through the people who have gone before us. It takes faith to consistently turn to the scriptures and look for Him there.
  230. Dannielle Perry says:
    I see obedience and desire to glorify God from the heroes of faith. “…because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
  231. Erica Chiarelli says:
    I have read this chapter before but I’m excited because I have been wanting to study Hebrews again…it gets my toe in. I want to study but it feels really big and more in depth than I can do by myself reading. But I can see others thoughts and it can help me digest it better or maybe a little more easily? Reading it again, some of them don’t feel like faith but we are reading it on the other side of their lives.
  232. Taylor says:
    Good morning ladies,
    I didn’t have a chance to read this morning but I am here asking for prayers about my work situation. Things have unfortunately become worse and I feel scared, stuck, and helpless. I have been having a lot of anxiety the last week. Please pray with me that the Lord will provide and guide me into how to navigate this situation according to His will. I need my Shepherd, my Abba, my Peace, my Protector, my Provider. That is who He is <3 Thank you for joining me in prayer. Love to all and I pray everyone has a blessed start to their week.
    1. Mari V says:
      Sweet Taylor, oh sweet girl…praying this very moment for you!
    2. Carol H says:
      Praying for you,Taylor
    3. Cheryl Blow says:
    5. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:
      Joining you in prayer this morning Taylor. ❤️
    6. Cassie says:
      Praying for you, Taylor. I had a tough situation this year and the prayers of this group gave me so much strength. Our faith grows in hard times. I feel better than ever now, and I pray that you will be in that boat very soon! <3
    7. Cathy McVey says:
      Praying for you Taylor ❤️
    8. Tina says:
      Praying for and with you Taylor.. Keep the faith. Know the truth. Trust in Him. He is near..❤
  233. Barb D says:
    I had an epiphany as I read your comments after this incredible passage. Each of these people had “mustard seed faith,” and from that tiny, imperfect faith, God was able to turn their weakness into strength. (v 34) May he do the same with ours!
  234. Zoe Mazzawi says:
    God uses the IMPERFECT to fulfill His PERFECT plan —BY FAITH.
    And His plan is always BETTER!
    1. Rhonda J. says:
      Yes, put simply! TY!
  235. Anna Whitt says:
    I’ve read this chapter before sat through sermons about it. But this morning, in the quiet of my home, I read a little more carefully. What stands out to me? They were all sinners like me. They had struggles, sometimes they doubted God. But verse 34 says “whose weakness was turned to strength.” God will strengthen us, he will guide us. Thank you, Father, for working in us and using us for your glory!
  236. Corrin Clayton says:
    All I can think is just very BIG TRUSTING faith. That is the kind of faith they all had ~ and that is the kind of faith I pray for myself and family
  237. Lanie H says:
    I have a preconceived notion that these people are so much better than me, ashamed I don’t have their type of faith. And then I remembered what Jesus said to Thomas: ” blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe”. And realize that’s us! Just like the forefathers and mothers we haven’t “seen” the promise. But we believe. Just like them, we hope for a better home. When I read this part about Abraham I thought hey that’s us too! Hebrews 11:16 NIV
    [16] Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
  238. Anna Homra says:
    May I be honest? I struggle with Moses refusing to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. As an adoptive mom, whew! There’s one of my biggest fears. Maybe God will work with me on this one through this study.
    1. Lanie H says:
      Jesus also said who are my mother and brothers. The parts of scripture that say he came to being division in households were always very tough for me too! Because my household is a blended one, and to lose my second family too was a devastating thought. As I wrestled with this I have realized most of us will never have to choose because of the families/country we grew up. But some of our middle eastern brothers and sisters do have to make that choice, and it’s a heart posture of who does your ultimate loyalty lie with, God and the heavenly family, or the world and your earthly family? Not so much biological or adopted. I hope that helps!
    2. Rea Queen says:
      I read your comment and I sat with your honesty for a little bit and this is what I came to…I hope you find comfort here…I don’t think Moses rejected his adoptive mom, but the sinful ways of the Egyptians. I read that Jewish legend says that Moses’ adoptive mom left Egypt with him and converted to Judaism.
    3. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:
      Yes, in agreement with Lanie & Rhea. I believe the point God wants us to see is that Moses rejected the “gods” and lifestyle of Pharaoh & his daughter, choosing to be called a son of God.
      Hope that calms some of your fears. ❤️
    4. Sarah Ritchie says:
      I agree with one of the other responders. I don’t think Moses’s rejection was toward his mom but to the Egyptian society at large under Pharoah.
  239. Marilyn Harrington says:
    The people mentioned in Hebrews 11 had unwavering trust in God and had their eyes and mind focused on the end goal. They trusted God to get them there.
  240. Vicki M says:
    Good morning sweet shes, I have been reading along for years but never commenting, blessed by your comments (thank you!)and have prayed for many of you. But today I promised myself to be visible!
    “Now faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.” 11:1
    By faith we believe God created the universe.
    By faith we offer our “firstfruits” (Abel)
    By faith we obey (even if in fear) (Noah)
    By faith we receive God’s promises (Abraham)
    By faith we bless others (Isaac and Jacob)
    By faith we are enabled to see with God’s eyes and our fears abate(Moses’ parents)
    By faith we persevere (Moses)
    By faith we endure persecution
    By faith we follow our Lord
    By faith, though we don’t always receive what we desire or what we are hoping for, we willingly serve God in His plans to bring something better.
    I want that last sentence to be true for me. But like those mentioned in this chapter, I know so well that I am so imperfect, sometimes fearful, sometimes unwilling, sometimes doubtful, often failing.
    My prayer is may I overcome through an ever deeper faith in you, Lord, my loving, faithful, good, good Father. Amen
    1. Kelly (NEO) says:
      Fantastic❣️ Thanks
    2. Rhonda J. says:
      Yes! Amen Vicki!!
      Thank you for breaking it up like that for us!
    3. Maria J says:
      Thank you Vicky. This is a good summary for me to think about.
    4. Cheryl Blow says:
      Amen! Beautiful way to break this down!
    5. R says:
      As as fellow silent follower recently
      become visible welcome, and thanks so much for breaking it
      down for us!!!
    6. Cathy McVey says:
      So good! Thank you for breaking it down like that!
    7. Tina says:
      ..and what a beauty you are,Vicki M!
      Hello!
      Your comment had me “at by faith. we believe Go created the universe…” the whole thing was So good, thank you. .
      Hopeful to ‘we’d you again, soon,.Vicky!❤
    8. Mia Faith says:
      Love this Vicki M
  241. Erin R says:
    I love verse 27, talking about Moses. I read it in a couple of different translations for better understanding. In the NLT, it says, “He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.” All of these people, even though they weren’t perfect, kept looking up to God instead of trying to control things themselves. It’s a great reminder to me to do the same.
    1. Emily B. says:
      Yes! I use the NLT as my primary translation, and I have that part of verse 27 underlined. It was a nice thing to see this morning, after not reading this chapter for a long time!
  242. Danielle B says:
    I’ve read this passage or portions many times before. Like others I’ve heard it called the hall of faith. Many of those listed were given a promise and they acted even though they didn’t know the how. I don’t need to know the how, I need to know and trust The Who.
    1. Carol J Mylin says:
      ♥️
  243. Aimee D-R says:
    Amen
  244. Searching says:
    It’s a new study and a new day, sisters! Praying for understanding and growth as we work through this chapter in Hebrews – that I’ve often heard referred to as the faith hall of fame chapter.
    In reading through the chapter this morning, I kept thinking how weak my faith is compared to these forefathers – and then read vs 1-2 again. My faith, which may be weak or strong in the moment – with it, I’m building my testimony and at the same time, it gives me the spiritual (and mental) strength to keep walking through life’s challenges each day. The spiritual strength to know that God’s word is true, He loves me and He is always with me -either walking with me or carrying me. The mental strength – that allows me to remember that I have the spiritual strength.
    To answer today’s question: yes, I’ve read this chapter before. In thinking about the people featured, I’m awed by their confidence in taking the steps of faith that are recapped throughout Scripture … how many other steps of faith did they take before the “big” one?
    LYNNE FROM AL – you and Jack were on my mind last night. Praying, sister. ❤️
    CEE GEE – praying for 100% ❤️
    MARIA BAER – praying as you continue to work through housing and other issues
    MARI V – praying for the young lady seeking Jesus
    SHARON JERSEY GIRL- praying for Jeff as his treatment wraps up
    RHONDA J – praying for healing in husband’s back
    1. Donna Wolcott says:
      Amen. I often think of the faith of the martyrs, would my faith have been that strong. Prayers for your day and needs dear sisters.❤️
      1. Rhonda J. says:
        Yes agree. All the disciples faced persecution and died for it except one I believe. I often say that Christians today have no idea HOW to actually live their faith strongly enough to divide. Because we SHOULD live differently from the world, not of it and in it, which naturally makes us set apart. Would we die for our faith? Like we see today in other countries. AND is not being more obvious in America. Teachers refusing to teach the things that are not of God? Football coaches praying on fields when getting fired? Bakers refusing to bake wedding cakes for unGodly marriages? Pastors getting arrested at school boards….the list goes on but many are not seeing these. It is happening more and more!!
    2. Cee Gee says:
      Thank you, SEARCHING, for your prayers! Adding my amen to those listed. ❤❤
    3. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:
      Thank you Searching – last treatment went right on schedule this morning!
  245. Rosemarie Peyton says:
    I’ve read bits and parts of this chapter before. Faith is mentioned more than 25 times. What really stuck with me was: faith is the persistent trust in God’s truth. Through Hebrews 11 you see the people mentioned having persistent trust in God. I then turn the definition back to me and have to ask: Do I have persistent trust in God? I like what Nadine pointed out that Sarah laughed at first but then you see in this passage that she does have faith. It really does encourage you that even if you have your moments—of doubt, failure, etc— you can still be faithful. Hebrews 11 is really encouraging to those who are in the midst of struggling.
    1. Alysia Ruiz says:
      ❤️
  246. Kelly (NEO) says:
    What is common among those listed is faithfulness to God’s covenant, not perfection.
    .
    Loved this: “even though he is dead, he still speaks through his faith.”
    .
    Does my faith “speak”? What will it say when I’m dead?
    .
    SHARON JERSEY GIRL-praying all goes well for Jeff today.
    .
    RHONDA J – praying your husband’s back is restored to health.
    .
    MARGARET W. – praying your recovery from knee replacement surgery is going well.
    .
    TAMI – how is BJ?
    .
    TAYLOR – how are things with your work situation?
    1. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:
      Thank you Kelly – Jeff had his last treatment this morning!! YaY! and Praise God!
    2. Margaret W. says:
      Kelly, I am so grateful for your prayers. I am really having trouble getting the pain under control and at a manageable level right now. If you could add that to your prayers it would be so helpful.
      1. Indiana Elaine says:
        Praying for you, Margaret!!❤️
  247. Cat-tee says:
    Lord please give me strength of faith, though I lack, and use me in spite of my imperfections, just as you did with these heroes of faith. Happy and blessed Monday to you all!
  248. Nadine Hall says:
    I’ve read this passage many times in my life. I’ve heard it referred to as the “Hall of Faith” by some. It’s such a rich passage, and with my Pastor preaching through the life of Abraham currently, it’s interesting to see the parallels with Hebrews 11. The most surprising is Sarah/Sarai who actually laughed when God told Abraham that in one year she would have a child. It’s hard to imagine her as having faith, and yet the passage here says she did. She’s an example of faith, even though she had her moments of questioning, her moments of doubt, her moments of failure. And that’s encouraging. I can still be a woman of faith, even if I have periods where I question what God is really doing in my life.
    1. Shannan Elaine says:
      That resonates with me. Thanks for sharing.
    2. Suzanne Woodward says:
      Thanks for bringing that out! Just because we sometimes question doesn’t mean we don’t have faith! I am so glad we have this list of friends people- whose lives see far from perfect and sometimes messy
    3. Kate Leivo says:
      I love this! So very true- hence the imperfect heroes is that yes we will never be perfect but it’s about coming back to God by choosing Him and trusting in Him and placing everything in Him! Through the trials of struggling with doubt, impatience or whatever one’s trial may be- I believe our faith even grows and becomes stronger!
      1. Rhonda J. says:
        Yes, amen! Good word!
  249. Danielle says:
    These are all very different people with imperfect faith. They were not blind, unquestioning, unwavering soldiers of God, but fully human in their belief. Sarah laughed. Abraham took matters into his own hands. Moses questioned his call. They didn’t even start out as perfect specimens – old, difficulty with public speaking, wrong birth order, prostitutes, etc. All “flawed” by our human standards, but citizens of the upside-down kingdom.
  250. Julia C says:
    These men and women were looking for God and looking at God: they knew Him, trusted Him, loved Him and obeyed Him. They had a relationship with God.
    These men and women lived on this earth looking up and looking forward: their hearts and minds were set on things above, not on earthly things. God planted eternity in their hearts.
    Their faith is an example to us, but it is only the beginning: “It is what Christ has done that opens the way into the very presence of God for them as for us. Only the work of Christ brings those of Old Testament times and those of the new and living way alike into the presence of God.” (Morris, cited in Enduring Word).
    And so, because of Christ, the list of those living by faith continues today… It includes you and me. To God be the glory!
    May we be women of whom other people say: “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you” (Zechariah 8:23).
    1. Cee Gee says:
      Amen! Love the tie in to Zech.!❤
    2. Tina says:
      And so, because of Christ, the list of those living by faith continues today… It includes you and me. To God be the glory!
      May we be women of whom other people say: “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you” (Zechariah 8:23).
      This had my attention!
      .
      Beautiful words, Julia.❤
  251. Sally B. says:
    Good morning Ladies,
    I’m looking forward to this study. Our heroes of the faith – we know they were not perfect and they all faced trials and hardships during their earthly lives. Yet they continued forward, striving towards God and His promises by faith. Without which it is impossible to please God!
    Praying their examples will encourage us to do the same.
    Happy Monday!
