Grace Day

Romans 11:6

Text: Romans 11:6

Grace days are for catching up and being still. As we read about the life of Moses in Scripture, let’s pause to meditate on the sufficiency of Jesus Christ as beautifully reflected in the hymn “Rock of Ages.”

Read, hum, or sing the words of the second verse of this old hymn, and rest in the saving grace of Christ’s atonement.

Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill thy law’s demands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.

from “Rock of Ages”
Augustus Toplady, 1776

Now if by grace, then it is not by works; otherwise grace ceases to be grace.

    Needed to read this today!

  3. I’ll be honest. Grace has always been a hard concept for me to grasp. I don’t really know why, probably something to do with my traumatic childhood, but it is really hard for me to understand the idea that I dont have to do anything to earn Gods forgiveness. Sometimes I feel like if I just do all these things or make sure I don’t make Him angry that we’ll be good. And I know in my mind that’s not how this grace thing works, but to make a heart change is a different story

      Sometimes the best way to learn grace is to give it :) When we give grace, realizing how extremely difficult it is, we finally understand the grace of God a little more, and we become more thankful for it!

  4. Tami says:

    Yes. Heard someone say before, “My testimony is Jesus….that’s it.” I love that. There is nothing to add or take away. All I have to claim that grace is Jesus.

    Mercy is not getting that which I deserve. Grace is getting that which I don’t deserve. There is nothing I can do to earn God’s grace. It is arrogance to think I could. Indeed, “not the labors of my hands.” It is His generous gift I could never repay . I can only bow low and say “Thank you.” And then re-gift it to others, by telling them of His marvelous grace gift which He also has for them. May today find me re-gifting grace.

    1. Nath says:

      Re gifting ..has a bad reputation.. I have a story of an old aunt, who after a long line of friends re gifting an iden..it landed back on the hands of the original giver…
      Your challenge to us ,to be re gifters of grace is a beautiful one. Thanks.

    A reminder I need daily. I tend to want to DO something to be better, or I view my lack of action as failure, which makes me feel like a failure. God has come “Emmanuel” to stand in for my inability to save myself in the person of Jesus – the perfect sacrifice.

    “I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10

    1. Denise says:

      Amen and amen !

  9. Becky says:

    Praise be to God for His saving grace!

  10. Sarah says:

    I love Grace. The complex truth made simple. He had to do it all.
