Matthew 6:9-13

Text: Matthew 6:9-13

Take time today to rest in the knowledge of God’s boundless grace and reflect on Scripture below.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
-Matthew 6:9-13 KJV

    Grace is beautiful

I read the verse in the messages and then love rereading then in the lmb that they use for the devo and I love it! seriously reading the our father in the message shows so much power and just really lays nothing on us and everything on God and it’s a great way to remember that praying is just a I want list but a praise to the creator of the universe who already knows what we want before we speak a word! #awstruck

  3. Fran says:

Our God’s will continues to unfold in our lives. May our prayers be according to His will and not ours.

At might church in January, my pastor did a short series on prayer and during this we were encouraged to personalize and pray through the Lord’s prayer. Here is my personalized version for today, taken from several versions and then added in my own thoughts.
My Father who is in heaven, Holy is your name. Reveal yourself in fullness to me, to my hubby, and to my kiddos. 10 May your kingdom come soon. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Set everything on it’s head. Make things right in your eyes here on earth, in this city, in the greater area, in this state, in the entire nation of the USA and all around this world you created. Make things right, set men right and draw them to yourself. May I be a small part of setting the world right and speaking truth and love and holiness. 11 Give us each day our daily bread. Thank you for your provision for it is all from your hand. May we continue to seek you each day and find both physical and spiritual sustenance for our bodies, souls, and minds. 12 And forgive me my debts and sins against you, as I forgive those who sin against me, each and everyone no matter how gross the sin. Even that person who spoke so harshly to me yesterday. 13 And lead me not into temptation, but deliver and rescue me from evil in the world and in myself. For Your’s is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. You are in charge! You make the calls. I trust You! In You is the most glorious, blazing beauty! Amen.

This prayer is such a comfort. It had brought me through many storms and valleys

  12. Kristi says:

My daughter learned this prayer since birth and can now quote it. We are now teaching her what each part means. My youngest daughter who is learning to talk is picking up on words and it brings joy to my heart that they love praying and being in the word.

  13. Caroline A says:

I have never been one to find beautiful, encouraging words in prayer. I am thankful that all I need is right here in this scripture.

    1. Caroline A says:

Meaning, I cannot formulate beautiful prayers well on my own

  14. Blind girl on a bench says:

I had such a difficult day yesterday, filled with failure, and at the end of the day all I had left in my heart is shame because of how I acted during the day. I did reach out to our lord but wanting to find a way out through a formula… What can “I ” do to get me out of my mess. Well didn’t find that formula. But today God confront me with Grace…. And I don’t know how to handle it. I’m so self driven… God has a plan, he wants me to learn to trust and rely in him… Only him. I think he is telling me stop trying to get your self presentable before you come to my trone… You end up hiding something from me… so you think.
I want you whole…. So today without fixing, without trying to make myself better I come to him… And want to experience his grace fully.

    1. Kelly says:

      Yes!! This is immensely encouraging!

      ThThank you!

The basketball players at our public school gather at center court after every game and bow together and say this prayer. They invite the opposing team to join them, and most of them do. The whole gym goes silent waiting for them to get back up. They do this when we go to away games as well. It makes my heart smile that I still live in a country where this can happen.

    1. Megan says:

      Amen!!

      1. Carol says:

        That is so awesome!

I love this prayer so much. Have a blessed, peaceful weekend dear sisters.

  18. Churchmouse says:

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
In heaven, the response to the Lord is always “Yes!” When the angels are given an assignment, their response is always yes and they spring into action. May “Yes!” be my immediate response here in my home, in my neighborhood, in my city, in my state, in my country, on this earth just as it is in heaven. (Oh and I imagine that when the angels see the mighty acts of God, by Him and through us, they are moved to worship Him, the ultimate “Yes!”)

    1. Shea says:

Yes! I love reading your posts, sister. Such sweet, real and open faith is evident in you. I like your insight on this one! Let us all be full with eagerness to see God’s work here, and be the ones so very eager to carry it out!

    2. Sue says:

Thank you Churchmouse. You speak to my heart.

  19. Lisa says:

I learned this prayer as a small child. At times when I didn’t have the words to pray…I would always pray this. It really does hold a special place in my heart.

  20. Tricia says:

I would like to know why other versions don’t have “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen”. Anyone have thoughts on that?

    1. Anja says:

This phrase was added to newer manuscripts.  Older manuscripts were found after these, so some modern translations have it in. It’s a scriptural addition and lines up with other ideas – so not inherently bad.   If you take a look at how the Bible came to be it’s quite facinating really. I’m surprised there are not more inconsistencies – think this too speaks of God’s involvement of not just writing the Scriptures, but even in the copy process – all prior to modern tech!

  21. Tricia says:

Thank you Dana. That’s very nice.

  22. Dana says:

Our Pastor gave a great message on the Lord’s Prayer last year during a series about Prayer and taking your prayer life to the next level. It opened my eyes to see the beauty in this prayer and to pray this prayer more fully by expanding on the verses as I pray. So each day I let the words flow from my heart. For instance:

Our Father who art in Heaven, my almighty Father who loves me so much that You sent Your only Son to die for me. Hallowed be Your great Name. You are worthy of all praise, honor and glory. Your blessings abound. Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done, Your Will Lord, not mine or my neighbors, but Yours. On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, let no one hunger and thirst today but also remind us that man can not live on bread alone but by every Word that comes from Your mouth. And forgive us our sins, I lift up all I have done to break Your heart Lord and I ask for You to forgive me as You also call me to forgive those who sin against me. And lead us not into temptation, shield us and deliver us from all evil and keep us in Your protection. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen!
