Grace Day

Open Your Bible

Galatians 5:13-14

Use this day to pray, rest, and reflect on this week’s reading, giving thanks for the grace that is ours in Christ.

For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement: Love your neighbor as yourself.
Galatians 5:13–14

I am grateful to be on a journey of conscious self care and love. Loving my neighbour as myself was challenging when I wasn’t putting myself first in the sense of love and care.

      I totally get this!

I have been reflecting on how I serve my flesh; buying myself a new pair of shorts when my old ones don’t fit, taking 15 minutes of reading to relax, making breakfast, buying and iced coffee. Those things all seem so trivial when I lay them out and in thinking about it, I spend a lot of my day doing these things. If I were to spend just half of that time loving and serving others, the people around me and myself have such an opportunity for growth within the Lord. Jesus loves and serves better than anyone, so I pray that you show me the ways I can turn the spotlight off of myself today and love your people for the glory of your kingdom!

Due to some circumstances that happened around Christmas, and an order I had placed with SRT…I had an extra She Reads Truth Bible. I have been praying since the beginning of January who I should give it to. I thought of many women who would love it, (it is wonderful)! However, each person who came to mind, felt more like something I wanted to do, than something I was being called to do. This week a young couple came to dinner. I was hoping to have an opportunity to talk with her about SRT. (Her husband is involved in a Fight Club ministry in my son’s church focused on Nehemiah but I didn’t know if she had anything see was studying.) I was hoping she would be interested in joining the Peter study. Come to find out, one of her girl friends is the artist for SRT and gave her the Proverbs and/or Psalms books as a gift. She said that right now she wasn’t interested in starting a study but what she really loves is time reading her Bible, except that it is falling apart. Yep, that is what she said. She said she needs to get a new one. My SRT Bible was on the table in the other room and I grabbed it and had her look through it. Her eyes lit up. She loved the extra room to take notes beside the scripture. She loved the verses that are beautifully printed throughout and wondered if her friend created them. I showed her the timelines and reading plans with devotions randomly throughout. I knew it was God saying…these are the hands you are to place my Word in. I offered her the Bible. She didn’t want to take it, thinking it too extravagant a gift. I explained the circumstances of my having an extra one and told her I had been praying for God to show me who He wanted to have it. Ladies, I am not making any of this up. I’ve been praying for about 2 months, waited on God, and His answer was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Thank you SRT for the opportunity to share God’s word.

“Don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love”. Not “freed to love me” but “freed to see those all around me”. Freed from the power and control of sin and selfishness. Free to see and serve others. To love them freely. Because Christ gave His life to love me.

What’s going on with the app?!? Yesterday my devotional was missing parts and now today no picture to see or share from the devotional page & no message really at all?!? I pay for the devotional because I like to share to social media directly from the app!!! Why the changes?

    1. Rachelle Burgess says:

      I noticed that about yesterday!
I’m pretty sure that Saturday is always a grace day and only has a short scripture from a previous day. I think the hope is memorization and/or reflection on the week and a deeper understanding of what we already read.

      1. Sally Burkholder says:

I agree…however Saturday usually had a little bit included… but what I’m most sad about is no picture… I love the added

      2. Sally Burkholder says:

Picture…. and what do you know… there it is!!

      3. Ashley Thomas says:

I had to go to the website to get the devotional yesterday. Saturday doesn’t ever have a devotional- it’s grace day to catch up and memorize scripture.

I read all of Galations chapter 5 this morning and verses 7 & 8 really stood out to me –

7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. (NIV)

When I find myself moving away from the Lord and wonder how I got where I am – who or what am I allowing to influence me? Small “compromises” that don’t seem like a big deal – this is not coming from the Lord or from someone I need to let influence me.

  8. Churchmouse says:

We are a free people in Christ Jesus. All His commands are to keep free people free. His commands keep us from bondage, bondage found in Satan’s schemes and deceptions. Let us lead others to this freedom by selflessly loving them into the kingdom. Go. Serve. Love. Tell.
