Day 6

Grace Day

from the The Parables of Jesus reading plan

Luke 16:13

BY She Reads Truth

Take this day as an opportunity to catch up on your reading, pray, and rest in the presence of the Lord.

“No servant can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
– Luke 16:13

I can be a slave to fear but serving fear will not bring me the joy mercy and peace God gives. Only God can offer these things.

This is a good one for me today. I definitely need to be resting in the Lord. I have some anxiety type feelings today that won’t go away so I’ll remind myself today to rest in his grace and mercy. Because I can become so consumed in worrying about everything ESPECIALLY finances that I can feel a slave to it. And I would much rather be a slave to God because money can’t do anything for me.

Praying for you right now Erica. Good morning sisters. I am so grateful for Grace day as I am very behind. I was not able to download the devotional until two days ago. My two wonderful children will be going to a Thanksgiving reach at our church, meanwhile I will go on a run, catch up on all my reading, help get this house cleaned up, and go back to catching up on some more reading than later on meeting my mentor. During this Thanksgiving season I’m so thankful for all of you here at SRT I know you are praying for me. Now back to my catch up on my reading.

      Thank you Mari!

I just joined this group yesterday, so I had many days to catch up on this week, but the one I focused on was the Ten Minas. Here are my thoughts.
How often it seems that we hide away our talents/gifts. Numerous excuses run through our minds in our own self-defense. We want to play it safe and not risk failure. Or we think we have fewer or less significant gifts than others, simply because ours may not be one that attracts a spotlight. But we must recognize these excuses for what they are: self-protection and running away from risk. God does not ask us to play it safe. Rather, He asks us to step out into uncharted waters, offering our own unique set of gifts in new ways. I am to invest myself in other people and in God’s work. If I bury my gifts deep within myself, safeguarding them and cultivating them only for myself, my God will be disappointed. We are not given gifts for our own benefit, we are given gifts to bless others. At times we may get caught up in the rush and use our talents in the wrong way, as Zacchaeus did, but we can always be brought back and turn our gift for good if we would simply look up for a glimpse of Jesus and welcome Him when He calls.
In about a month and a half I am answering a call God has placed on me to offer my talents as an in state student missionary at a small christian academy. I can say that there is a small measure of fear of failure that goes along with this. This will be a whole new experience and job description for me, but if God has asked, how can I not offer the set of talents He has given me? It does not matter if I feel unqualified, my God is in the business of qualifying and developing the talents of those He calls. I would appreciate prayers as I prepare to begin in January and as I work through May.

We can be so good at multitasking. The Scripture today reminds me that in some things I need to be singularly focused. My devotion is to be towards God and God alone. As I head into the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, I’m grateful for all the Advent studies out there that slow me down and help me remember what is most important. I want to be Mary and not Martha.

I agree with you 100%! It is easy to be caught up in the “hubbub” of this beautiful season and put aside the REAL reason for it. Jesus is coming back…HALELUJAH!! Now, let me remember in my daily walk that my focus must be on Him and His will in my life until the day he returns.

Rough shift at work. Grace Day reminds me that every day is truly a grace day. I receive this gift from God every day. No matter how badly I behaved or how much I’m struggling. He still loves me the same amount! No more, no less. And in the verse, I think the master that tries to compete with the Lord is my own ambition, fueled by pride. God, please cleanse my heart today. Make it as white as snow. Forgive my sins and make me whole again. Renew in me a new spirit.

    1. Christina D. says:

Thank you for this reminder of the daily gift of grace. Beautiful!
