Scripture Reading: Exodus 34:1-7, Exodus 34:29-35, Deuteronomy 4:7, Isaiah 41:10, John 1:14-18, John 14:15-17

God, out of His benevolent love, has made His presence available to people. Although this has looked differently in various times of salvation history, God’s desire to be near and for people to draw near to Him has remained consistent. His nearness is a never-fading part of the fullness of His character. He is present, personal, and relational. He is Immanuel, “God is with us” (Matthew 1:23).

We see this in Exodus 34, when God the Father met with Moses on Mount Sinai. Moses came down from the mountain and found he had to conceal his face with a veil in order to speak with the Israelites. He “did not realize that the skin of his face shone” after talking with God—that it was reflecting the radiance of God’s glory and frightening his fellow Israelites as a result of the intense presence of the Lord (Exodus 34:29).

God the Son, Jesus, came near in His incarnation. Fully human, Jesus walked, slept, ate, and drank. He lived among the people, and He also withdrew to spend time with God the Father alone. Before His death and resurrection, Jesus promised another Counselor—the Holy Spirit—who would bring God’s presence near to those who love Him (John 14:16).

In 2 Corinthians, Paul wrote that the sacrifice of Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit have changed the nature of our relationship with God. We can now gaze upon the glory of God with unveiled faces, just as if we were staring into a mirror (2Corinthians 3:18). While Moses was once the mediator between God and His people, we now have Christ, the “radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature” (Hebrews 1:3) as our mediator. Because of Christ, we can enter into a relationship with God both corporately as His Church and as individuals. Even more, we have received the Holy Spirit to remain in God’s presence at all times.

Our relationship with God is rooted in His glory and expressed in His immanence, which means God is present with us—deeply invested and active in each of our lives. He is a personal God. He relates to us, loves us, and cherishes us. Rather than being distant, inaccessible, and detached, He has drawn near to us so that we might draw near to Him. By grace, He dwells among us, and by that same grace, He invites us into His presence.

Isaiah 10:10 hit me – we are told not to “anxiously look around”. How often do I look around for the next thing to jump out of the dark? I wonder if some of the fears , or anxiety, I have is self fulfilled prophesy.

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great day. My sister in law was due with her first baby on the 23rd so we are (im)patiently waiting on his arrival! Prayers for a smooth delivery and for baby boy to come naturally rather than her having to be induced!

Sometimes, honestly, I don’t feel Him. (And that’s okay.) But truth isn’t based on my feelings, it’s based on His promise. He is near.
He is with me. He will never leave. I can trust that, even when I can’t see it clearly. I can lean into it, even when I feel small. I can believe Him, even when I’m scared. Because God is Present. And I am never alone.

    Dear Shes
The reading today brought to mind Psalm 16:11 (AMP)
“You will show me the path of life:
    In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
As a matter of fact, in a church I once attended, the praise team had crafted a song. Humming now in my head.
On another note, listening to the podcast interview for the week with theology professor, Dr. Don Payne, I was introduced into a new interpretation of what it means to be “made in the image of God”. As in, the “image of God” is invested in us, undivided, relational, engaged & commissioned by Him. Not a physical image as other gods. We are His “apprentices to the Master Jesus”!
Again, whether you listen to the SRT podcast before the week begins on Monday, or after the week ends on Friday, do listen to Raechel & Amanda with holy curiosity!

This song really makes me think about rushing through my morning with my studies. Am I listening to God? Or just checking off the to do list.
God desires to spend time with me. To teach me. Comfort me. Shower me with love. I need to not be in a hurry. To respond back in love and praise.

  14. Mercy says:

The title today is “God is present”. I paused for a bit, and then the thought popped up, is He really present? Is He the absent father? Oh my, forgive me the vain thoughts that come against the Word. Take them captive immediately. Thoughts are like birds, they come and go. Let them go. Dwell on the good ones. I read a quote that says, “if you ever doubt anything, doubt your doubts”. Doubt is such a big enemy to growth and development. “Let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind”. The Great I am is truly in us, He is the God of multiplication, He is the God of strength, power, comfort, and rich mercy. God is really present. In perilous times, may we practice killing doubts. Today is the election day for Canada. Would you be so kind to say a prayer for our hurting nation, that the mercy and power of God will intervene and prevail in such a time? God knows how long I have cried for God’s mighty rescue to come. Please pray for big wave of salvation to sweep through this nation, for wisdom and sound judgment for voters, and great courage, strength to shift the scale of evil, and for any unrighteous tempering, scheming, and fraudulent activities, hidden corruption (on any levels) be removed from this nation. Deferred hope makes the heart sick. May the Lord heal this nation. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”. Thank you so much for your prayers. Be blessed dear sisters.

My favorite of all of God’s names has always been Emmanuel, God with us. Thank you, Tina, for also pointing out the other spelling of that, Immanuel. My prayers for myself today is that I can be constantly aware that God is indeed with me, dwelling in me.

  16. Teresa Donley says:

Tami, I’m praying for Chela to receive the miracle she asked you to pray for. I pray she comes to realize that “your” God is her God too, and comes to belief in Him. I pray for God to continue to lift you up as you hurt for your daughter.

      Thank you Teresa!

  17. Kim Martinez says:

God draws near to us and is intricately involved. Isn’t that such a delight? I know I feel it more some times than others. This week I’ve seen his intricate involvement. Now, as I’m in some daunting social situations, I crave that near and tangible presence.

  18. Cheryl Blow says:

This reminds me of the song “In the Presence of Jehovah.” In and out of situations
    That tug-a-war at me
    All day long I struggle
    For answers that I need
Then I come into His presence
    All my questions become clear
    And for a sacred moment
    No doubt can interfere
    In the presence of Jehovah
    God Almighty Prince of Peace
    Troubles vanish hearts are mended
In the presence of the King
Through His love the Lord provided
A place for us to rest
A place to find the answers
    In hours of distress
    There is never any reason
    To give up in despair
Just slip away and breathe His name
He will surely meet you there
    In the presence of Jehovah
    God Almighty Prince of Peace
    Troubles vanish hearts are mended
In the presence of the King
    In the presence of Jehovah
    God Almighty Prince of Peace
    Troubles vanish hearts are mended
In the presence of the King

SEARCHING- Maybe this study note from John MacArthur will help to settle your thoughts about the mirror comment. I agree, it reads like we will see an ‘exact’ reflection when we know we aren’t there yet!
    From the devo:
[We can now gaze upon the glory of God with unveiled faces, just as if we were staring into a mirror (2Corinthians 3:18)].
    John MacArthur study notes:
“we all”. Not just Moses, or prophets, apostles, and preachers, but all believers. with unveiled face. Believers in the New Covenant have nothing obstructing their vision of Christ and His glory as revealed in the Scripture. beholding as in a mirror. Paul’s emphasis here is not so much on the reflective capabilities of the mirror as it is on the intimacy of it. A person can bring a mirror right up to his face and get an unobstructed view. Mirrors in Paul’s day were polished metal (see note on James 1:23), and thus offered a far from perfect reflection. Though the vision is unobstructed and intimate, believers do not see a perfect representation of God’s glory now, but will one day (cf. 1 Cor. 13:12). being transformed. A continual, progressive transformation (see note on Rom. 12:2). into the same image. As they gaze at the glory of the Lord, believers are continually being transformed into Christlikeness. The ultimate goal of the believer is to be like Christ (cf. Rom. 8:29; Phil. 3:12–14; 1 John 3:2), and by continually focusing on Him the Spirit transforms the believer more and more into His image. from glory to glory. From one level of glory to another level of glory—from one level of manifesting Christ to another. This verse describes progressive sanctification. The more believers grow in their knowledge of Christ, the more He is revealed in their lives (cf. Phil. 3:12–14).
    .
SHINE, JESUS, SHINE is the song that came to mind today. Partial lyrics:
As we gaze on Your kingly brightness
So our faces display Your likeness
    Ever-changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here, may our lives tell Your story
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light
    .
As another favorite song (Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here) says,
“Let us become more aware of Your presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness..”
    .

Love hugs, and prayers, SHES! ❤

  21. Wendy B says:

Such an encouraging way to start the day.

A couple things stand out to me. Firstly, from the devotional, “His nearness is a never-fading part of the fullness of His character. He is present, personal, and relational. He is Immanuel, “God is with us”. How amazing is it to know the truth of this and be reminded of the greatness of our God. He truly is all of this. Secondly, I re-read this passage and couple times…
“he did not realize that the skin of his face shone as a result of his speaking with the Lord,” as it convicted and challenged me. Does my face shine from the Lord’s presence? Do I radiate the presence of the Lord? Oh man…I fall short on this very often but I should not. As a follower of Jesus, the nearness and presence of the Lord is mine. Among other things, it is a source of joy and that should “show up” on me. His presence is my gift but I also must steward that well and it should be very obvious in my life. I need to work harder at this.
Lord, your presence is a gift in my life and it is good news. Thank you for forgiveness, grace, mercy, love and your presence that is always with me. Forgive me Lord for the many times I trudge through my days, weighed down by the cares of this life and forget that my mighty, awesome Lord is right beside me and because of that, it changes everything. I love you Lord, and let every gift of who you are radiate out and shine through me. Amen

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, exactly what I was reflecting on, well said! :)

    2. Teresa Donley says:

Wendy, I was struck by how Moses’ face was shining after meeting with God, and wondered if my face shines after spending time in His Word and in prayer. I was convicted that my face should shine at all times because God is in me in The Holy Spirit.

    3. Tami says:

Year ago, during COVID, at the prompting of the Lord, I started a 40 day prayer for my brother that started with 3 and ended with well over 50 people, and countless other 40 days prayers after that. The Lord spoke to me during that time (not audibly) but gave me the words to write each day. Like there were days I couldn’t turn off the thoughts in my head and would have to write them down or lose them. 40 days was a long time for me to sustain, well I didn’t but God did. It was the most amazing connection I had ever felt, and I knew that I knew that I knew that it was all coming from God and that he had a greater purpose than the prayers for my brother. I felt so at peace while everyone was reeling from COVID, I sat, prayed and listened because I had the time. A woman I know who is very strong in her faith came by one day. She has no idea what I had been doing, but she told me my face looked different, serene. I always felt like it was because I was spending so much time with the Lord. I could use a little of that now but it is a time of my faith journey that can anchor me when I am feeling far away or doubting.

      1. Wendy B says:

What a testimony – thank you for sharing. The presence of Jesus should change us.

  24. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

“Because of Christ, we can enter into a relationship with God…”

I am so thankful, and forever grateful that Christ made a way for me (us) to have a relationship with God.
Before Christ my life was so empty and without meaning or purpose. I hate to think of where I would be – or who I would be – if not for Jesus. To have the presence of the Holy Spirit is everything! It is through His presence that I can make decisions, grow in wisdom & knowledge of God, have assurance, strength, peace – and the wherewithall to live life. I am so thankful that God chose me (us) – that He desires us to be near him, to know Him, to love Him. To be His children and that He is always present!

    Forever thankful, grateful, blessed!

    Happy Monday sweet She’s!

  25. Kebrina Vinglas says:

Grace upon grace upon grace. God is here with me. Thank you, Father for loving me. Thank you, Jesus, for walking with me. Thank you Spirit, for living in me.

  26. Nikki Smith says:

God the Father, Jesus Christ his son, and the Holy Spirit—all have come into humanity in some form to be present with us and to save us because of their love and mercy.

  27. Rhonda J. says:

I have said before presence was my “word” last year. I really need to hone in that that God LIVES in me. That he is like a Father, a brother, a friend, a confidant, but also has his very presence in me. It is hard to fathom even though I have been a life long Christian. And frankly, few “Christians” seem to radiate or even act as a person with Christ in them. Why…is it so hard? Why isn’t it more evident? Oh wouldn’t it be so wonderful that we had a special lit up body at the point of salvation!! We would be marked and transformed, and radiating?!! Yet, we ARE supposed to be. I know God knows me. He sees me, he is with me. But I need to radiate his presence, walk in it daily and hourly—SHINE his immanence in me!
Lord- Help me to reveal you character, your joy, love and peace. Your patience and self-control. I need to die to myself, and let you make your presence be known- not just when I leave my house, but through the ordinary days, (like just now when my husband rubbed my head and it irked me because I’m typing..lol) Oh, to be real! I guess it is called transformation, sanctification for a reason. He comes in us- but it is a lifelong transformation. We have to BE in scripture with our heart and love for Him, not just for head knowledge or check marking. We have to be in meditation. Be in prayer, constantly communing with our loving Father that wants relationship. He never leaves us. How remarkable and mind-blowing.

    1. Mercy says:

You already shine :) It’s not hard Rhonda. The thing is your shining can only be perceived by others. You already shine girl, such hope, such joy from within. 31. Lisa says:

Maybe it’s my Monday brain after a long weekend, but my initial thought after reading was “didn’t we study this last week with God’s omnipresence?” But as I thought about it more, yes and no. When I think of it in human terms, I can be in the same house as my children, but am I present (definition: fully focused on or involved in what one is doing or experiencing)? God is ALWAYS fully focused on or involved with what I am doing or experiencing. I have a friend who tells everyone she is God’s favorite, which we can each individually say – I am God’s favorite!

Thank You God for not only being omnipresent but also present!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

I thought the same thing! I love that analogy.

    2. Karen Y says:

Great point. Thanks for sharing it.

In devo’s 4th paragraph referencing 2 Corinthians 3:18 it says “ We can now gaze upon the glory of God with unveiled faces, just as if we were staring into a mirror”.
I’m having trouble expressing why this comment doesn’t sit quite right with me. If I were using pencil on paper, I would have erased a hole through it many times over by now.
    .
TAMI – praying for Chela, that the lies will be overcome by Christ’s love for her.

    1. Rachel says:

Are you uncomfortable because it feels presumptuous? I was actually encouraged because I think the verse is saying that because of Jesus we are able to look on – and reflect – the holiness of God without cover or fear. My husband is the theologian – I’ll have to ask him :)

  33. Maria B says:

I really loved today’s devotion and scripture, especially the part about the Holy Spirit. If you don’t mind, I’d like to share why. Yesterday, one of the associate pastors started a new series on the Creed, and his message was about the Holy Spirit. He opened the sermon by comparing how “we feel” about the Spirit to how people felt about a character named Bruno in the movie Encanto. (I’ve never seen the movie, but I’ve heard about it.) The thing is, it felt like he kept saying Christians are scared of the Holy Spirit. I know I’ve never felt that way. Honestly, the way he explained it actually made the Holy Spirit seem even scarier and almost unnaproachable. It just didn’t sit right with me. I prayed for him last night and again this morning, because something about the message really bothered me. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it’s been heavy on my heart. So it was really comforting to open the Word this morning and read about the Holy Spirit — the One I know, love, and trust.

    1. Searching says:

Agreeing that we should not fear the Holy Spirit, given to believers as a gift- Helper, Counselor, Comforter.
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
      .
      Joining you in prayer.

    2. Leanna Thompson says:

Maria I encourage you to discuss this with your associate pastor. Perhaps ask for clarification. Others may have the same experience as you. We are called to confirm for ourselves what has been preached or taught to us through research in the Word.

      1. Maria B says:

Leanna, I will do that. Thank you for the encouragement.

    3. MI Sherry says:

People can be scared/fearful of what they don’t know/understand, and they tend to cover up their lack of knowledge by making up stories and/or avoiding it (“We don’t talk about Bruno…”) instead of going to the source and discovering the truth. Many churches don’t understand the Holy Spirit’s function outside of being part of the Trinity. They avoid talking about Him and/or say He was only for the early church and not around today. Thank God, He is still with us and working still today!

  34. Taylor says:

So thankful to gather with you all today and be reminded just how close our God is, who loves us deeply and wants us to deeply know Him! I was reminded of Proverbs 18:24 that our God is closer than a brother/sister. Lifting up all the prayer requests <3 if you can please pray for my friend Ryan whose mom died last night. Love and hugs to all and praying we feel God’s presence in a unique way this week!

  39. Erica Chiarelli says:

  40. Aimee D-R says:

Father it is so hard for my human limited brain to truly comprehend that You are with me always; Your spirit within me. Give me a fresh revelation to carry that through all my actions; words; deeds every day. I love Hou Lord. Holy Spirit guide, comfort, strengthen me always. In Jesus name, Amen

  41. Tami says:

I need God’s presence and your prayers today please. My daughter Chela had been doing so well and now it feels like she has taken 10 steps back. She is in a very dark place, a place of self hatred and loathing, she feels hopeless. My heart is breaking for her. Although she is not a believer, she asked me to pray for a miracle for her yesterday. She responded that she didn’t believe in “my god” but a power in the universe. I told her that’s ok because my God created the universe. Baby steps with her. She needs Jesus! She needs healing of her body, mind and spirit. She needs God’s presence.

Praying, Tami, for Chela!! Praying that in this dark place, she will feel & see the light of hope from Jesus in her heart and mind, that she will be guided and protected, that she will be able to look back and see the miracle from our God that brought her out of this darkness. Praying for you, Tami, in this too.

    2. Erica Englert says:

Lord please protect Chela from the darkness around her. Bring your mercy and your light to her life. Surround her in your glory and bring her peace. Let her open her eyes to begin to see your love and grace. In Jesus Christ I pray.

    3. Libby K says:

Tami, I am praying so hard for you and your daughter. I walked a very dark road of depression for a lot of years. I know how difficult it is for her and for you being her mom. Your responses are so beautiful and not pushy. Praying over her now.

    4. Lynne from Alabama says:

Praying for your precious Chela! May God bring her out of her darkness into His glorious light! Praying for you as well, Tami. You have so much on your plate right now.

    5. Rhonda J. says:

I’m sorry, we feel so helpless when we can’t seem to reach or say the right thing to reach them. My niece said nearly the same thing last night. So down on herself and life. It’s sad to see when they should be having fun and loving life. I will pray for Chela and my niece Sav. That God will shine his light on their face.

    6. Christy says:

Praying for God to wrap Chela in his love and protection and that from this dark place she would experience His hope and peace.

    7. Sheryl says:

Lord, even though Chela doesn’t realize it, Your presence is all around her. Please, Lord, may Your Presence light up the darkness all around her and bring her to an understanding of who You are and of Your love for her. Amen

      Praying, Tami! ❤️

    9. Susan Burley says:

Praying for Chela! It sounds like God is working in her life if she opened herself up to asking for prayer. Lord, we pray that you would heal Chela of her mental struggles & that she would come to know peace through You. Jesus, we thank you for Tami who is navigating how to support her daughter. May you give Tami the words to speak and ears to listen. Bless both of these ladies! Amen.

Tami I am so sorry to hear of Chela’s steps backwards – she was doing so well. Praying for her this morning, may that “miracle” happen and may she believe.

    11. Wendy B says:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious girl, Chela to you. We pray that your hand would intervene in a mighty powerful way and that your light would break through the darkness that is swallowing her up. We pray hope, help, healing and that in some way she would know Father that you are near. In Jesus Name, because we know you are mighty to save, Amen❤️

        Praying this too. ❤️

      Praying for Chela !

    13. Kristy says:

Father, I pray for Chela. I pray that she would feel your presence Lord. Just her asking her mother to pray for her is a sign of her searching. I pray that you would do what only you can do Lord and knock on her heart. Let her see you and feel you. I pray that TODAY would be the day of salvation for Chela and that she would begin a new journey with you. I pray against the schemes of the enemy and the darkness that wants to continue to overtake her Lord. We plead the blood of Jesus over Chela, your daughter who you love and adore. I pray the enemy would flee in JESUS name. That your light would overcome the darness Lord. I pray for Tami as she walks this out with her daughter. Give us faith to fight Lord. Amen

I am so sorry Tami. This broke my heart. Mental health and its struggles are such unseen battles. Praying for sweet Chela to have strength and comfort and support sent from on high, may the hands and feet of God be sent to assist her, that she will overcome all these storms.

    I feel.like I have had a light bulb moment!
    .
So, I was looking up the word immanence, as it was a tad too big a word for my now smaller, and older brain!
    .
Immanence.. The state of being present within something, or inherent within it..
    .
    Got it!
    .
    Understood!
    .
Light bulb moment, and please feel free to say this was a moment for you tooooooo..
    .
Imman-uel, what we know and understand as God with us, is derived from that word, or was it the other way around?
I mean, I always understood, the meaning of Immanuel, much like my name Christiana, means follower of Christ.. I got that there was a meaning to the names of old that we are given..I
    .
Am I thinking toooo deeply into this?
    .
However the word came about, I am so very thankful for Gods presence in my life, His constant care and grace, mercy and hope, and His wonderful love wrapped in His goodness that follows me, all the days of my life.
LORD GOD, thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit, that keeps me in check, thank you, Father God, thank you for YOU, in my life.
    .
    AMEN.
    .
    Happy Monday dear hearts!
Much love, hugs and prayers for all.❤❤❤
