Numbers 23:19, Psalm 102:25-28, Job 23:8-14, Malachi 3:1-6, Hebrews 6:13-19, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:16-18

God is unchanging in His being. His character and will are constant.

As humans, we speak the language of change. We are always seeking the next, the better, the unknown. Even if we prefer to hold change at an arm’s length, it is inevitable. The seasons shift, the stars fall, our numbered hairs fall out, and our hearts undergo the only constant we know—change.

The book of Ecclesiastes contains this famous refrain, charged with the impatience, discomfort, and hopefulness of our ever-changing lives:

There is an occasion for everything,
and a time for every activity under heaven:
a time to give birth and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to uproot (3:1–2).

We live our lives seemingly anchored to little more than change itself. And yet Scripture beckons us to drop our anchor and hold fast to the One who never changes.

Our God is unchangeable because He is perfect. Nothing can be added or taken away from Him. Everything He does is consistent with who He is. God’s promises are the same, and His ability to keep them will never waver. In Malachi 3, God tells His people: “Because I, the LORD, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed” (v.6). In short, God’s immutability means we can count on Him, no matter what.

Job, whose life changed in dramatic and painful ways, knew God to be always true to His character. “He is unchangeable, who can oppose him?” he asked (Job 23:13). Job staked his hope—his life—on his belief that God will always be who He declares Himself to be and do what He says He will do.

Job’s hope is our hope.

Complete, unchangeable, perfect—this is our God. As the ancient doxology “Gloria Patri” declares:

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and will be forever. Amen.

with the world going crazy with politics and ruin, it can be easy to become discouraged. remembering that He is in control and does not change, He has seen worse, and will deliver us, provides such hope.

  2. Lori Hawkins says:

My mind is really thinking about how awesome it is that God doesn’t change. But oh how we do. Even if it’s a good thing, we grow and change. Adding family(children’s spouses), changes our way of celebrating, But God never changes. How amazing He is!

  3. Gabriella Wyllys says:

I love how it talks about how God is unchangeable. And that even though we change and our world is changing daily He remains the same and His promises remain true now and forever. And just like Job who felt completely hopeless at times, we can also remain hopeful in times where all hope feels lost. And we can also have hope and believe that no matter what happens in the end God will defeat the Enemy.

  4. Gabriella Wyllys says:

Amen and hallelujah that God never changes. Life constantly changes and gets busy that we don’t know which way is right or left and yet our God is constant which means his love is constant and never changes and thank goodness for that!

  5. Kate Condran says:

    Loved the passage in Job

  6. Darlene A Garcia says:

    AWESOME verse Numbers23:19 .

  7. Amanda Ferris says:

It’s such a comfort to me that He is unchanging in a world where so much changes both around me and within me.

  8. Nicole Hankins says:

Great reminder for me today ❤️❤️

  9. Candice Lukaszonas says:

Remaining rooted to Gods word and promises is SO HARD when life is spinning like a whirlwind trying to suck you in! When do we know in which directions to move if we are to remain rooted?

  10. Brooke Clark says:

what stuck out to me this morning: God doesn’t need to change because he’s perfect. His promises are true and that will never change. The world around us changes, but God’s will for the world and for us never does.

Do the Scriptures support God is immutable?
The following are the extracts seem not to support He is entirely immutable:
First, if He were immutable, why should Gen 1:29, “(mention)..God said, I have given you every herb.. every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”, yet in Gen 9:3, “(He changed His mind to permit us to eat meat, since it mentions) Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you, even as the green herb have I given you all things.”? Instead, He should not permit us to consume meat (Gen 9:3) after His decision of our consumption of herbs (Gen 1:29) if He were immutable. The extracts below only forbid Christians to consume blood: Lev 7:26-27, “..ye shall eat no manner of blood..Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”; Lev 17:14, “..for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.”; Deut 12:23, “Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh.”; Acts 15:20, “..abstain..from blood.”; Acts 15:29, “That ye abstain from..blood..”; Acts 21:25, “..save only that they keep themselves..from blood.” Now, a critical question is raised. As Christians are forbidden to consume blood, can some donate blood to others for their intake of blood?
Second, if He were immutable, why should Gen 6:3, “(mention)..the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh..”, yet Exod 31:5, “(mentions)..I have filled him with the spirit of God..”? Instead, His Spirit should not fill him (Exod 31:5) as He mentioned earlier that He would not strive with him (Gen 6:3) if He were immutable.
Third, if He were immutable, why should Gen 8:21, “(mention)..the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake..neither will I again smite any more every thing living..”, yet Isa 24:1, “..the LORD (changed His mind to curse the ground and to) maketh the earth empty..” and that shall lead to Isa 24:19, “The earth(..to be) utterly broken down, the earth is.. dissolved..”? Instead, He should not cause the earth to be dissolved (isa 24:19) as He had mentioned in Gen 8:21 that He would not curse the earth if He were immutable. The same is in 2 Pet 3:10-11, “(that mentions)..the Lord will come..in the which the heavens shall pass away..the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then all these things shall be dissolved..”.
Fourth, if He were immutable, why should Gen 11:6-7, “(mention, in Babel, Gen 11:9,)..the LORD said.. let us go down, and..confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” when He had created all previously to cause Gen 11:1, “..the whole earth (to be)..of one language, and of one speech.”? Instead, He should continue them to be in one language as this was His practice in the past instead of diversifying their languages if He were immutable. As He created all to be in one language prior to Gen 11, it enabled Gen 3:2, “..the woman (to have dialogue with)..the serpent..”.
Fifth, if He were immutable, why should Gen 17:3, “(mention)..God..saying,” Gen 17:12, “..he that is eight days old shall be circumcised..” and that Gen 17:14, “..the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people..”, yet He did not exterminate Josh 5:5, “..all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.”? Instead, He should exterminate all the people who were born in the wilderness yet had not been circumcised at the age of eight months if He were immutable.
Sixth, if He were immutable, why should Exod 3:15, “(mention)..God said..unto Moses..” Exod 3:17, “..I will bring you up..unto the land of Canaanites..”, yet Num 14:26, “..the LORD (changed His mind and) spake unto Moses..saying..Num 14:30, “..ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein..”? The same is also mentioned in Exod 6:8 and 13:5. Instead, Moses should not be barred from entering into the land of Canaan (Num 14:30) as He had promised him to have the access of it (Exod 3:17) if He were immutable.
Seventh, if He were immutable, why should Exod 29:18, “(mention)..a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.”, yet Jer 6:16, “..saith the LORD..” Jer 6:20, “..your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.”? Instead, He should accept their burnt offerings, as He did embrace it in Exod 29:18, if He were immutable. The following are the extracts that He had rejected sacrifices long before the advent of Christ: Pss 40:6-8, “Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire..”; Pss 51:16-19, “For thou desirest not sacrifice..” and Amos 5:22, “Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them..”.
Eighth, if He were immutable, why should Exod 31:1, “(mention)..the LORD spake..” Exo 31:15, “.. whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.” and that led to Num 15:32, “..a man that gathered sticks upon the Sabbath day.” to cause Num 15:36, “..all the congregation..stoned him with stones, and died.”, yet Num 28:1, “..the LORD spake..” Num 28:24, “..ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD..”? Instead, none could offer the meat of the sacrifice throughout seven days, since these include also the Sabbath, if He were immutable. As He permitted works on the Sabbath (Num 28:24), it led 2 Chr 23:8, “(to mention)..the Levites and all Judah..took every man his men that were to come in on the Sabbath, with them that were to go out on the Sabbath..” without stoning them to death. The same is mentioned in Isa 56:2, “(to).. keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.”
Ninth, if He were immutable, why should Exod 32:9-10, “(mention)..the LORD said unto Moses..I will make of thee a great nation.”, yet Exod 32:14, “..the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people” and that caused Him to divert His mind not to ruin the children of Israel by establishing a great nation for him? Instead, He should adhere to His plan to ruin the children of Israel in order to establish a great nation for him according to His promise in Exod 32:9-10 instead of repenting from the evil which He thought to do to His people if He were immutable.
Tenth, if He were immutable, why should Exod 33:5, “..(mention) the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel..I will..consume thee.” since Deut 9:20, “..the LORD was very angry with Aaron..” as Exod 35:2, “..Aaron said unto them Break off the golden earrings..” to make a Exod 32:24, “..calf.”, yet He changed His mind not to exterminate him due to Exod 34:9, “..he said..O LORD..I pray.. pardon our..sin, and take us for thine inheritance.”? Instead, He should annihilate them according to His word in Exod 33:5 regardless whether they sought His pardon of sins if He were immutable.
Eleventh, if He were immutable, why should the Old Testament demand the Jews to practise meat offerings (Lev 2:1), burnt offerings (Lev 1:2-4), peace offerings (Lev 3:1-3), sin offerings (Lev 4:3), trespass offerings (Lev 5:6), etc. and in the New Testament, we have Christ to be our sin offering and trespass offering, yet neither He burnt Himself on the cross for the replacement of burnt offering nor we offer alternatively burnt sacrifice. Hence, the burnt offerings seem to cease in functioning in this modern world. Instead, He should continue burnt offerings in this modern world if He were immutable.
Twelfth, if He were immutable, why should Lev 7:21, “(mention)..the soul that shall touch any unclean thing..even that soul shall be cut off from his people.’, yet 2 Chr 29:16, “..the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD..and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD..” and yet none of them were exterminated? Instead, the priests should be exterminated as they had touched the unclean thing that they found in the temple of the LORD if He were immutable.
Thirteenth, if He were immutable, why should Lev 12:1-4, “(mention)..the LORD spake..If a woman have conceived..a man child..she shall be unclean seven days..And in the eighth day..his foreskin shall be circumcised..she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary..”, yet He does not mention she is unclean and is prohibited to come into the sanctuary within seven days after the birth of the male child in the New Testament? Instead, she should be treated as unclean and should be prohibited to the entry to sanctuary seven days after his birth if He were immutable.
Fourteenth, if He were immutable, why should Num 13:1-2, “(mention)..the LORD spake unto Moses.. Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel..”, yet Num 14:11-12, “..the LORD said unto Moses..I..smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them..” and that led Num 14:45, “..the Canaanites..smote them, and discomfited them..”? Instead, He should not smite them to disinherit them from the land of Canaan as He had mentioned in Num 13:1-2 that they could possess it if He were immutable.
Fifteenth, if He were immutable, why should Deut 10:1, “(mention)..the LORD said..” Deut 12:21, “..I have commanded thee..thou shalt eat in thy gates whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.” and that Deut 12:15, “.. thou mayest..eat flesh..unclean and the clean may eat thereof..”, yet Lev 6:24, “..the LORD (changed His mind and) spake..” Lev 7:21, “..the soul that shall touch any unclean thing..even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”? Instead, He should not exterminate them by touching the unclean thing as He had permitted them in Deut 12:15 if He were immutable.
Sixteen, if He were immutable, why should Deut 10:11, “(mention)..the LORD said..” Deut 14;1, “Ye are the children of the LORD your God..an holy peole unto the LORD thy God..” Deut 15:6, “For the LORD thy God blesseth thee..and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.”, yet Judg 4:2, “..the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor..” and that caused Judg 9:22, “..Abimelech..reigned three years over Israel.”? Instead, Abimelech should not have reigned over Israel as He had promised in Deut 14:1 if He were immutable.
Seventeenth, If He were immutable, why should Deut 13:7-10, “(mention)..the gods of the people which are round about you..thou shalt surely kill him..thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die..”, yet Ezek 14:6, “..saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols..”? instead, He should exterminate them by stoning them instead of calling them to repent and to turn away from their idols if He were immutable.
Eighteenth, if He were immutable, why should Deut 24:5, “(mention) When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war..but he shall be free at home one year..”, yet Josh 8:1, “..the LORD said unto Joshua..take all the people of war with thee, and..go up to Ai..”? Instead, He should not inform Joshua to take all the people of war with thee, but to leave those who had new wives at homes for one year if He were immutable.
Ninteenth, if He were immutable, why should 1 Sam 9:17, “(mention)..when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him..this man shall reign over my people.” and 1 Sam 10:24, “..See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him..”, yet 1 Sam 15:10-11, “(mention)..Then came the word of the LORD..saying, it repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king..” and 1 Sam 15:26, “..the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.”? Instead, He should not repent from setting up Saul to be king if He were immutable.
Twentieth, if He were immutable, why should 1 Kgs 11:36, “(mention)..Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.” and that led 2 Kgs 21:4, “(to mention again)..the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name.”, yet 2 Kgs 23:27, “..the LORD said, I will..cast off..Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.”? Instead, He should not cast off Jerusalem since He had mentioned to put His name there (1 Kgs 11:36) if He were immutable.
Twenty-first, if He were immutable, why should Lev 18:1-2, “(mention)..the LORD..Speak unto the children of Israel..I am the LORD your God.”..and Judg 1:19, “..the LORD was with Judah..”, yet 2 Kgs 23:27, “..the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen..”? Instead, He should not remove Judah and Israel as He had been with them (Lev 18:1-2 and Judg 1:19) if He were immutable.
Twenty-second, if He were immutable, why should 1 Chr 21:15, “(mention)..God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repent him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, it is enough, stay now thine hand..”? Instead, once He decided to annihilate Jerusalem, He should not repent of the evil till it was annihilated if He were immutable.
Twenty-third, if He were immutable, why should Pss 78:31, “(mention) The wrath of God..smote down the chosen men of Israel.”? Instead, He should not smite down Israel as they were His chosen people if He were immutable.
Twenty-fourth, if He were immutable, why should Pss 132:13, “(mention)..the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.”, yet Jer 9:17, “..saith the LORD of hosts..” Jer 9:19, “..a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion..we have forsaken the land..”? Instead, He should not forsake the land as He had chosen it to be His habitation (Pss 132:13) if He were immutable.
Twenty-fifth, if He were immutable, why should Isa 41:8-9, “(mention)..thou, Israel..the seed of Abraham my friend..Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.”, yet 2 Kgs 17:20, “..the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel..until he had cast them out of his sight.”? If He were immutable, He should not cast them out of His sight as He promised in Isa 41:8-9 not to cast them away.
Twenty-sixth, if He were immutable, why should Hos 2:13, “(mention)..saith the LORD.”, Hos 2:23, “..I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.”? Instead, He should proclaim to those who were not His people that they are not His people, since He did not choose them to be His people initially if He were immutable.
Twenty-seventh, if He were immutable, why should Jude 1:5, “(mention)..how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.”? Instead, He should not exterminate those who believed not as He had saved them initially, if He were immutable.

  12. Princess Brown says:

This is such a timely reminder, amidst so much uncertainty, confusion, and chaos, that God is the same God. It encourages my heart to know that, in hard times, I can lean on Him with the same confidence I had in easy times because He isn’t changing up on me.

  13. Sachi J says:

Yes, definitely agree. During these challenging times, I always find myself going back to God’s promises that he has a plan, and that it is good! (Jeremiah 29:11)

  14. Alanna Berryman says:

Reading this now during the Covid-19 pandemic and it’s so refreshing and a wonderful reminder that God never changes nor will he for he’s unable. It’s so comforting especially during this time.

  15. Kaleigh Bradley says:

Like Numbers 23:19 says: he’s not man nor son of man, therefore he doesn’t lie or change his mind. We, however, are human and we cheat, lie, steal, change, and sin everyday. We’re not perfect, but He is. He’s the only one that can change us for the better. Change is natural and it happens to everyone, but God can make sure the changes we go through are good. He can change us from sinful to helpful, negative to positive, orphans to sons and daughters, stray sheep to the redeemed and believers. We must know that He is the only one capable of this and all that He does is for the good of man. In return for him changing us, we must spread His Word and live out His ways. Christianity is a relationship, not a religion so when we spread His Word, we must talk about how He has changed us personally. Make it personal to others. Show them that it’s more than a belief. That is our purpose, and that is why God changed us to be His.

  16. Luci Rannells says:

    Sweet Jesus,
It is so comforting to know that even when everything around me is changing, falling apart, and going away, You are there through it all. You never change, God, and I can always count on that. I know I can rely on You.

  17. Jennie P says:

Life is so full of uncertainties, frustrations and difficulties. But God never changes in his character. When he exercises his sovereign will in ways I don’t understand, I can know that he controls all things from his constant, trustworthy character and will. I can remember this and trust him. He knows all things and is unfailingly good and wise.

  18. Angie Nesbit says:

It is good to know in an ever changing world we have a God who will ALWAYS be the same. We can go to Him and KNOW he is there! PRAISE THE LORD!

  19. Dessirie Cabalquinto says:

I find comfort in knowing that in a world where people and things change,my Father God doesn’t change.

  20. Amanda Jaroscak says:

Praying for faith like jobs during hardship!!!

  21. Tam Ferguson says:

  22. Jennifer Anapol says:

I love that God never changes. Change is something that scares me at times, I’m glad to have a firm foundation in Christ. I pray that I would rely on that when life changes drastically.

  23. Victoria Moette says:

This devotion was much needed. As humans we are always wanting change or we look around and see change happening constantly. What a refreshing reminder to remember that we can and should be putting our hope in Him always! He never changes and He never fails ❤️ How lucky are we to be loved by such an amazing God?!

  24. Marialva Ventura says:

God’s plan is perfect…being reminded that he always stays the same gives me hope that he will complete what he has planned for my life in His own time, formy own wellbeing and His Glory!

  25. Kate says:

I am so glad and grateful that God does not change His mind about me! (Num 24:19)

  26. Jeanie Scott says:

Even when we can’t feel God close, we can KNOW he hasn’t changed. He still loved us. He is still in control. He still has a plan. We are not forsaken, forgotten or rejected. Thank you Jesus for being our steadfast and never changing king, lover, friend and savior.

  27. Nicole Cook says:

I’ve been really struggling with Gods character as of late. I’ve grown up in the church and have never been in a season like this before, but I’ve found my faith feeling stagnant and very distant for longer than ever before. Will you all help me in praying to rediscover His character and Re-ignite my love for Him?

    1. Dessirie Cabalquinto says:

Hello, I’ve read somewhere that our faith is there even at time when we don’t feel emotionally high with love for him. Just the fact that you are holding on and wanting more is bigger than the mustard seed that moves mountains. :)

    2. Anna Quinn says:

Praying for you right now and praying the same for myself. We’re in this together.

  28. Katie Terese says:

My family is in a season of change. Most of it positive which doesn’t always mean less stressful or easier. I remember telling my husband the other day that I just wanted a clear path and to know what was going on and to get past this change and to feel settled. I never really sat to think about the fact that the most important thing in my life has and will never change. I have been in love with Hillsong United’s song valleys and mountains (song of ascent). Part of the song say something about “no less God upon the mountains, no less faithful when the night leads me astray, your the shelter where my heart is, in valleys and the heartache all the same.” I think I’ve never sat down and realized why this spoke to me so much. But in the midst of the change and fear and excitement that comes with that God is here the same as he was when life felt familiar and stable. What a comfort!

    1. Jaime Grace says:

      Amen! I’m a new mom-and it’s exciting-but different-a lot of change-mostly good-but your thoughts express how I feel. Thanks for sharing! ❤️

      1. Kimme Bartlett says:

Hang in there, Jaime! Parenting is the Adventure of a Lifetime:) Stay close to our Heavenly Father!! xo

  29. Karen Claunch says:

We are celebrating our 50th anniversary TODAY! As I was reading this morning I was rejoicing! We married young. We didn’t even know what we were doing but we were “In Christ” and His unchanging faithfulness has been with us through every hill and valley.
We have walked through many changing seasons…many deep sorrows, but He has been our hope …our secure anchor every step of the way! Praise be to our unchanging God!

  30. Jennifer Agger says:

As I face deep struggles a reminder that God is unchangeable reassures me. The moment when I feel I have nothing left, I am reminded that I have all I need. God will provide. This difficult season will pass and. if I stay obedient to God and trust in him, I know that he has great plans ahead

  31. Alex Aud says:

IF: Carmi, just as Jesus had the hope of glory set before Him on the cross, we have the hope that God is fulfilling His promises for His people- because He is who He says He is. He doesn’t change.

Hebrews 6:18b-19 we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,

    1. Jenny Howard says:

I love the reminder that God is unchanging! Everything else in life is constantly changing but he is our constant.

    2. Jessica Simmons says:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, & tomorrow. I LOVE this! ❤

  32. Carly Boivin says:

    so good

  33. Aries Wang says:

    Amen! Need this!

  34. Sarah Sheffield says:

I loved my conversation with God through these passages, the desire is to be closer with him and through each of these works we can strive to know out God more. His ever consistent presence in all things acts as a model for me while growing closer to him and as a daughter in the kingdom. Our words have power so be intentional with what we say, and promise that which we can fulfill. Gods desire is for our hearts to be blessed and our kingdom to grow; we will never have that power he has but our consistent faith in Him can lead us to that which he wants us to have and pursue. Perfection is him, we only get to progress towards Him as he designed us this way. Truly a constant, foreverly perfect Father with intention behind all we do or do not see, feel or do not find.

  35. Julia Blythe says:

I really needed this encouragement this morning! Thankful that in my ever-changing life, I can hold fast to the One that never changes & is always try to his character!

  36. Trinity Fields says:

In the current world where there’s no security in anything or anyone I’m glad I can be secure in my God.

  37. Cayla Kline says:

My family is going through a season of change. I opened SRT to dive into scripture. As a friend reminded me, His word won’t say “choose this” or “move there,” but His word can give you wisdom to choose well to better love and serve our Lord. This was so fitting that I decide to flip back to this study. What a great concept to bear in mind as my life is going through changes. Although change is constant for us, He is steadfast and sure. I find great comfort in that and peace in the truth— His will is unchangeable because He is perfect.

  38. Tomiko Boettcher says:

My family has gone through so many different kinds of changes in the last few years. It’s too easy to forget about the one that is unchanging and the rock on which we stand. Yet he never forgets us. All the more reason to immerse ourselves in his word so that we don’t forget either.

  39. Juanita Zaring says:

Just got started, was introduced to She Reads Truth by a friend, i am truly enjoying it.

  40. Emma Russ says:

Emily, I am so sorry for all of this stuff going on. Just remember what Jermimiah 29:11-13 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Seek God in times of need, he never wants to hurt you and he has a plan.

  42. Emily Castle says:

Recently have been feeling very let down by god. My husband and I have moved house to a new city and changed careers because we believe that he led us here, but now my husband is facing losing his job, we have had two deaths in our family in the last four months and it’s all very hard. I’m doing this bible study to try and remind myself that god is good, and that he won’t let us down or punish us.

  43. Tiffany G says:

For me, after a divorce and literally having nothing, I started to cling to anything. Friends, another relationship, work, etc and God stripped everything from me and put me in a position of having zero stability outside my job that moves every three months. And I keep getting the urge to do something like get in a relationship, buy a house. Something that screams “I have roots” but God is trying to get me to see he is my roots, he is enough and everything else is built on sand. I’m testing my faith to trust that God will do what he said in his word and walking by faith

  44. Janna Jackson says:

In a culture that constantly changes I am so grateful that God’s character is who he is. He doesn’t change with the winds.

  45. Ginger McOwen says:

Hi everyone. I have 2 very important prayer request. Would you please pray for my body as I am really sick and only 36 years old with 2 kids to care for. I’m not sure what’s wrong yet I just know have been suffering for a really long time and it’s getting harder to believe for healing . Also my cat has disappeared outside And she has been gone for almost 2 days. Please pray she comes home safely.. Thank you so much.

    1. Ashley M says:

      Praying for you, Ginger. ❤️

  46. Jess Harvey says:

I love change… well positive change. It excites me. Even unknown change (when directed by God) excites me. I like the adventure of it. The the newness. The unlocking of a new story… a new door… a new path in life. However, I think the fact that I can crave these has so much to do with the “safety net” of knowing that God is there. Knowing my situation has nothing to do with Who He is and how He loves me. When we were going through the foster care, reunification and adoption process with our twins holding on to the knowledge of who God is and that He NEVER changes was what became my battle cry- my constant reminder. That no matter the outcome God remained the same and would never change regardless of my circumstance. That knowledge changes everything.

  47. Shell A says:

In the last two months, my world has been completely turned upside down. My fiancé ended our relationship suddenly and it has devastated me beyond words. I’m struggling to trust God and His unchanging character. I know the truths about God but living them out day to day is so so hard. My world feels dark, with no light in sight. I’m anxious and sick with worry and struggle to get out of bed everyday which is so different to who I an. I hold tight to the hope that God can change his heart and I’m praying for restoration. But I’m also trying to accept that His will may not be mine. It’s a battle I’m fighting everyday and most days I’m losing. Please pray for me ❤️

  48. Terrisa Stewart says:

It is a blessing to know that God doesn’t change even though I do. As we are reminded each season has its purpose, so for mankind change is truly inevitable. Tethering myself to a God that does not change gives me hope to restore my faith knowing that no how much I may change to the world, I have a Father in Heaven who expects that change but will not change because of it. He loves me all the same!

  49. Misty MichelleCarlson says:

I am one who has always hated change . I have had so much of it in my 30 years on this planet . Between losing the ones closest to me, constant moving , people coming in and out of my life, different jobs , and the struggles that I face that it is awesome to know that God will never change . He will be that one constant that I so desperately need and I should have realized it so much sooner

  50. Steph C says:

God doesn’t change! Everything around me changes. Relationships wax and wane. Jobs change. I change. Feelings change. Health changes. God doesn’t change. In the midst of all the upheaval, He remains constant. My anchor. My refuge. My security.

  51. Tabata says:

Amber, praying for your family. Hoping everything went well in that doctor’s appointment

    1. Amber J says:

Hi Tabata! Thank you for praying. The tumor has grown, but hasn’t spread. Beginning a new treatment.. the doctor said this is the last option. Praying it works!

  52. Amanda MarieO'Malley says:

When everything is changing all around us it is awesome to know that God will never change and we can count on Him to do and be what he saS

  53. Faith says:

So much power and comfort in this, this reminder that He is my rock, my constant. In a world so full of change this brings hope. In my current stage of life it seems everywhere you look there is change. Failed marriages, relationships that evolve or dissolve, cancer, and death. While reading this all of these things came to mind and took me to a fast forward of my life. Kids moving away…me old and gray but content and faithful to my Lord in prayer. Joyful and engaged in that lifelong relationship with my Savior who so graciously pursues me all my days!

  54. Y K says:

No matter what the world brings forth, good or challenging change, I take comfort in knowing that God is my constant.

  55. Jeana says:

I am in such a dark season of change and struggle…being able to remember that God doesn’t change as given me a glimmer of hope.

    1. Natalie Northcutt says:

Praying for you in this moment and difficult season

    2. Becca Johnson says:

I understand struggling with change. This devo really resonated with me. Being in my 20s is a huge test of faith, because it seems like everything is changing, nothing is settled, and we are just wandering around trying to find our way.

I understand how you feel, in a way! I agree, the reminder that He is unchanging REALLY hit me. And made me feel safe and comforted.

Praying for you during your hard time!

    3. Jen Hutchison says:

Yes! Even when things change around us for the worst we can rest in the fact that we serve and worship a God who does not change and cares for us! ❤️

  56. Christina Currano says:

The last few years of my life have been full of so much change. It was hard to bare but I am thankful for an unchanging God that loved me through it all. In my anger for all that I was losing I made many mistakes and drew away from God but He never withdrew from me. He has constantly given me the story of Job to hold onto. God has changed me and I’m thankful for it.

  57. Beth Hinson says:

this is so incredibly comforting. Thank you God for being what we have always needed in a world that says we never have enough.

  58. Jill says:

Are each day’s devotional being printed in the study books now?!

  59. Tori Espinosa says:

This is my first time really participating in the SRT community and I just have to say a huge “Thank You” to the creators of SRT. I’ve been struggling recently with staying in the Word and I’m very grateful for this outlet! Speaking of changes, I’m working on those changes right now in my spiritual life and am thankful for a God who never changes and fulfills all of His promises even in the darkest moments (Read through Job 23:13-17).

  60. Churchmouse says:

Amber, praying for you and your family as you walk this dark valley of your father-in-law’s illness. Praying for peace and comfort for all. Such a tough situation.

  61. Natasha R says:

Today’s devotional is so powerful, thank you SRT. In this constantly changing and shifting world, may I always remember to anchor myself to my unchanging and perfect God. He is the ultimate source of security and peace.

  62. Natasha R says:

This is a good point, thanks Cheryl. It did not come to my attention until you mentioned it, which shows how accustomed and resigned I am to such language. Our God is completely inclusive, and we should strive to be more like Him. ❤️

  63. Laurie says:

After reflecting on God’s immutability, I can’t help but think about the byproduct that gets gifted to us as a result of this specific attribute. Because He is unchanging, we experience peace, security, assurance, freedom, hope, and joy and so much more, but these came to mind to me. His unchanging nature is designed to deeply satisfy us in every walk of life, high and low. How beautiful is that, that in all His grace we get gifted with these things solely because of WHO He is, an unchanging God! It’s grace in its purist form. Thank You Jesus for being our constant yesterday, today, and forever!

    1. Sarah Sheffield says:

Amen, I felt the same way as I read this morning.♥️

  64. Angie says:

    Unchanging.
    What He says,
    He will do.
    His Word.
    His promises.
    Are rest.

  65. Amber Johnson says:

This study couldn’t have come at a better time. My father-in-law is very sick with brain cancer.. and has not been responding to his current treatment. He’s lost his speech, cannot move his right side, and is usually in a state of confusion. Tomorrow is hard, as he gets a scan and sees his doctor. I have faith he can be healed. I am also aware there is no standard treatment and not many other options for him. I don’t know what I need prayer for other than peace. I am worried about the results tomorrow, and worried about what this means for the next few months.. as it seems, there’s not much time left, barring a miracle. Prayers please, ladies. Xx

  66. Cheryl says:

Thank you so much for being willing to change those first few words. It really meant a lot to me. I do agree with those who have liked the commentary printed out as well as the Biblical passages though I also understand your point about wanting us to focus on God’s Word before we go to any reflection on it.

  67. Amy Rihel says:

I needed to hear this so badly today. A reminder to not look to the past or worry about the future. To take each day as it comes, to relish the challenges and change with joy. And to know that God is here, right here with me, in the present. And he is the same, forevermore. Amen!

  68. Ayodele says:

    Kathy,

I’m praying for you that you’ll feel deep comfort. It is a blessing that you get to say good-bye. My mom passed suddenly in 2014 after a brief illness, that I thought she was recovering from and I didn’t get to say good-bye. May God be with you and your entire family through this trying time. You’re not alone Kathy, God bless you!

  69. Anna D says:

So True! God is Unchanging! His love never fails and never changes. Loved this !

  70. Christina says:

Kathy- praying for you so hard today. My grandmother has slowly declined ever since my grandfather passed, and it’s never easy to take. Her memory is slowly fading, but my faith in God is ever-growing. May God rest His hands on you while go through this difficult time.

  71. Christina says:

God is constant. What a simple yet profound statement. Knowing that God is constant allows us to put all of our trust in Him. I love the metaphor that hope is an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Without our trust in the Lord, how are we suppose to say grounded to our life on earth? God is the answer to all.

  72. Rachel Martinez says:

I got so many strong affirmations through the scripture today. Our God is faithful and worthy of our trust. His promises are true and good. His will for our lives will be carried out.

  73. Jeannie Burrus says:

Kathy- praying that you, your dear mother, and your family will feel the comfort and peace that only the Holy Spirit can give. You mom is going home; and while I know you and your family will miss her, imagine the joy and beauty that awaits her! I pray that thinking on this will bring you joy in the midst of your sorrow. Hugs & Prayers!

  74. Anne says:

Perhaps the fear that change sometimes brings, the craving we have for stability and solid ground, is meant to point us to our unchanging Creator and Sustainer. Our natural aversion to the unknown speaks to our need of Him. I believe that even those who would deny it truly long deep in their souls for the peace and security only He can bring. When we find ourselves frustrated by the fickleness of others, may it be a catalyst to turn to and be grateful for our immutable Father God.

    1. Tari Cox says:

      Beautifully written, Anne.

    2. Sarah Sheffield says:

Love that, it’s so true the consistent yearning we have for Him gives such peace.

    3. Christina Leal says:

Such an insightful thought…God placed within us the need and desire for a security that can only be found in Him. I never related our deep desire for safety and security to His immutable nature before (if anything, I thought of that desire as almost being wrong or sinful in ways) but it makes so much sense. God is good. He gives us needs that He is able to completely and perfectly satisfy. Thank you for sharing.

    4. Elisabeth Jackson says:

So absolutely true. I feel like this is a constant lesson in my life. Why do I fret of the unknown when I am known by the One & only Immutable God. Thank you for this – it is beautiful and brings it all home for me.

  75. Mari V says:

Thank you Lord your love never changes. I may fail you, but you continue to love me. This is something I tell my children all the time that though we may fail Him, He will not fail us. Even when it may feel like it He has not left us not even once. It has been a long journey. It’s my hope and prayer that this will make my children stronger. There is still a lot of healing to take place especially for my daughter. As a mother I had to let go and allow them to walk their own journey. For now I pray for them daily.

  76. Esther says:

I understand and agree with the need to use inclusive language. However, the definition of the word ‘mankind’ refers to all of humanity – every single human being – and therefore includes everyone.

  77. Lynne says:

Kathy: I am praying for you and your family today and in the days ahead. I know exactly what you are going through since I lost my mom to Parkinson’s in 2006. It was so sad to lose her but wonderful to know she wasn’t suffering anymore. She was in the arms of Jesus and reunited with my dad. Love to you, my sister!

  78. Camryn Smith says:

the world is looking for change but Jesus does not change

  79. Jennifer Cummings says:

This verse from Malachi: 6“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. “ How powerful and yet comforting. We have a God who does not change, remains true to Himself, keeps His promises. He’s never going to finally get so angry with us that he gives up on us. Because of Jesus (in other words, because He has sworn the promise on His own self) He provides us with life and we are not consumed.

  80. Steph says:

Dear Kathy, I know exactly how you are feeling. I lost my mom in June after her battle with Alzheimer’s disease and with very similar circumstances that you are facing now. Remembering now, how I could see God work in those final days. Praying that your mom’s passing will be peaceful and swift. Praying for you and your family and the remaining time. Praying for God’s comfort and love for you to be mightily evident.

  81. Debbie says:

mankind meaning: 1. the whole of the human race, including both men and women: 2. the whole of the human race, including both men and women.

  82. Churchmouse says:

Kathy, praying for you and your family as you prepare to gather at your mom’s bedside. May God’s presence be palpable and His peace surround you all. So grateful that your faith is comforting even as you travel.

  83. Heidi says:

Kathy, praying for you and your mom this morning and for an overwhelming peace to guide your heart and guard your mind. So amazing for her to be in eternal glory and healing, and in that same moment so heartbreaking for you to temporarily lose physical contact with her on this earth. I pray all goes smoothly and without any unexpected complications.

  84. Kathy says:

Oh, sisters, I needed this so badly today, right now, at this time. In just a bit I will be leaving to travel to Athens, GA to say good-bye to my Mom. She has Parkinson’s. She is no longer aware of her surroundings and can’t swallow. We have called in Hospice. My heart is shattered. No matter how much you think you’ve prepared yourself you’re never prepared when the end comes. I woke up this morning with this song refrain going through my mind, “My fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in Your love.” And then I sat down to this devotion. I needed this reminder that God is unchangeable. Right now He is the only solid ground I have to stand on. I trust Him completely with all of this. I know to the depths of my soul that He is walking this journey with all of us. I am not alone. He has got all of this and He has my mom.
Sweet sisters, please pray that she won’t linger long. Pray that God will take her home soon. I will miss her terribly, but there is sweet comfort and great peace knowing that very soon her faith will be made sight.
    Be blessed today.

    1. Marcy DeVeny says:

Kathy, I will say a prayer today for you and your mom. Stay strong in your faith.

    2. Pam Karlberg says:

Praying with you today Kathy as you say good bye to your Mom. We are approaching a similar time with my Mom. She has been in and out of the hospital this week and the reality is sinking in that we won’t have her much longer. I am trying to prepare but am right there with you. Thankful that the Lord is present with us in these difficult times.

    3. Natasha R says:

I’m praying, Kathy! Sending you a big hug.

    4. ChappyBeach Girl says:

      ♥️

  85. Angela Greenwood says:

So many things and people in my life change constantly I’m grateful and thankful that my God will always remain the same.

  86. WhitneeM says:

I have much I could say about this beautiful study book and the content thus far, but I especially want to thank SRT for printing in this book not only the scripture but the devotional portion that is usually only online. I’m trying to use my phone and gadgets less, which is why I pay for the books, and appreciate that (as far as I can tell) all the content is printed with this study! Please consider this going forward. I will continue to draw from the online community, but having it separate allows me to finish my own thoughts and bow my knee before involving others.

    1. Dani Sund says:

So glad you pointed this out! I had purchased awhile back a study which did not include the devotional part. Which i had used the app before buying and was kind of bummed the book didn’t include it! I hope they continue i loved the study itself and having a physical book was so nice to make notes in!

    2. Cindi HorstHaines says:

Oh the devotionals are included this time?! I’ve only bought one book, which was gorgeous, but I was so disappointed devotionals weren’t included. I always learn a lot from them. And I would love being able to do the study without my phone! (Phones can be so distracting even when we’re trying hard to ignore them)!

    3. Sarah Gilbert says:

I agree! Trying to use my phone less throughout the day, as well, as it can be so easy to check mail/research something/waste time on whatever before going onto SRT. I would love for the reflections to be printed more often in the books ❤️

  87. Lori Pulliam says:

This reading brought a state of Peace to my soul. I hold so tightly to the Truth that God is Steadfast and He never moves. That is the anchor to my soul. I can put all my trust in Him.

  88. Sue says:

When life seems to be spiraling out of control may I, like Job, stake my life – my hope on my belief that ‘God will always be who He declares Himself to be and do what He says He will do.’

  89. Kelly Chataine says:

As we deal with this ever-changing world, remember sisters ~ “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!”

    Praise God!!!

    1. Natalie Northcutt says:

      Amen!

  90. Jeannie Burrus says:

The Carthusian monastic order has a saying: “The world turns, the cross remains”. I am comforted by the fact that God never changes and wavers and that my hope in Him is a sure and trusted anchor in this storm-tossed world.

    1. Cindi HorstHaines says:

      Love this!!

  91. Shawn Parks says:

17Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights; with Him there is no variation or shadow cast by turning. This verse has always struck me. No variation or shadow cast by turning. What an image! Our God cannot change or be changed. This idea is so awesome that I can only in my limited way comprehend it. How humbling to consider yet so encouraging that this unchanging and steadfast God desires a personal relationship with me!

    1. S Deterding says:

I too love this verse and His unchanging nature has gotten me thru many seasons of change in my life. Just knowing my God is steadfast and reliable made the unpredictability of everything else seem doable.

  92. Churchmouse says:

I sometimes feel like a dinosaur. I prefer the Palmer Method of penmanship on paper rather than texting and emailing. The older I get the more I find myself wistfully remembering how things used to be done – although I’m grateful for the convenience and efficiency of that which is new.

Reading through the Scriptures and the devotion this morning, I’m challenged to see change as something more than inevitable. I’m challenged to see it as “a refiner’s fire and like launderer’s bleach.”. God has a purpose for change. Change forces me to decide what I am willing to let go and what I will not. Change forces me, as the saying goes, to choose what hill I’m willing to die on. The depth of my faith and the level of my commitment is revealed. I’m also challenged to believe to my core that God Himself is not subject to change. God is unchangeable, “the same yesterday, today and forever.” The more I know Him, the more grateful I am for His immutability. So, Father God, help me to accept necessary changes as I am refined by You to be made more like You. Lord, help me to hold fast and stand firm to the Truth found only in You. Let me not waver in my trust in You. You, alone, unchangeable. You, alone, worthy. I bow down. Amen.

    1. Susan Alexander says:

      ❤️

    2. Marcy DeVeny says:

      Well said!

    3. Krista Adams says:

      Thank you for this post.

    4. Sylvia Tomlinson says:

Grateful this morning you used the convenience of what is new ❤️ blessed and encouraged by your words.

    5. Betty Tang says:

Wow this is written so beautifully, Churchmouse. Thank you for reminding me that God has a purpose for change. I am resisting to a current job change that God has led me to..it’s so uncomfortable at the moment that I want to give up; however, I am reminded how good He is.

    6. Maureen McFarland says:

This was absolutely lovely. My favorite scripture is Isaiah 48:10…maybe for just the same purpose you just shared. It gives me hope in the midst of change and heartache and hurt. “Behold I have refined you, but not as silver. I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.”

    7. Melanie Braun says:

Well said. Thank you for this. Your words helped me today.

  93. Hayley Chipper says:

This is really comforting. Having experienced a lot of change over the last six months, some good and some bad, my one constant and anchor through these seasons has been knowing that God is always there and feeling His unchanging presence with me. Reading this has been such a timely reminder to continue trusting in Him because He is worthy of this trust.

  94. Cheryl Collins says:

Could I respectfully ask for a little more inclusive language? I am not one who wants to go back and change the language of the past or the gender we use when we speak of God, but as women in the Word of God I would have preferred this to say something like ‘As human beings we speak the language of change…’ I don’t want to offend anyone else and perhaps this will come across differently in the U.S ( I’m writing from England) but this did really jar with me. My understanding of God’s unchanging nature is that He always seeks to include the lost and marginalised and therefore as Christians we should chose the most inclusive language we can.

    1. Carrie Dean says:

Thank you for posting this. It felt jarring to me too (in the US).
