Hi Ladies! I am on Day 2 as well today (June 12th). I wish I'd found this sooner. :) I LOVED the verse Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. I immediately pictured putting that bad thought in the naughty spot and saying NO. lol (The teacher in me perhaps?)
Though I've been a Bible reader for a long time, I've never memorized all the Armor metaphors, so I drew pictures and tried to help myself remember each one. My favorite is THE BELT OF TRUTH! I've been facing toxic worrisome thoughts related to work, so I keep saying to myself I've got the belt of truth guarding me. :)

Wow! "Take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." Do I do that? No. Should I do that? YES! Are toxic thoughts obedient to Christ? No way. So what business do I have letting them invade my life? None! I really need to think about this passage a lot more and keep it in mind whenever those toxic thoughts come my way (often!).

I'm only on Day 2 myself, but I have already started trying to change the way I think about things in terms of not letting toxic thoughts take over. I love what you said about how we need to learn to use our spiritual weapons to defeat our toxic thoughts. Well said, friend.
    Thanks for posting that comment.

Thank you also Amy! I love reading others thoughts on these studies because it gives you a totally different perspective, maybe making something stand out that you may have missed! I definitely still need to think about making every thought obedient to Christ too. I do catch myself thinking about changing my toxic thoughts occasionally, but I admit they're still not something that I can just get rid of.. Although I wish they were! I need to work on thinking about it more during the day..
Also, I think I'll put the NIV version on my app as a reference. I have heard that's one of the most easy to understand. I was sooo lost until I looked up a translation, so it would be nice to have it right there! :)

Erin, I had a hard time with this one too! I actually have several versions of the Bible and after reading your comment, I got them out to compare. My NIV version really helped clarify this for me a lot. One part that really stood out to me was 2 Corinthians 10:3-6. It says "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete."

This was one of the most confusing to me! I loved the devotional as always, (I'm on day 10 now but would love to hear what others got from this passage) but I was so lost when it came to the 2 Corinthians part! I'm not sure if it's because I'm using NKJV..? I know It's not as easy to read as some others, but my grandpa has always told me that it is one of the better versions. After reading some commentaries on these verses, I decided that what this was basically getting at (in relation to our study) is that our toxic thoughts are some of our fleshly weapons, and we need to learn how to use our spiritual weapons to defeat out toxic thoughts. Did anyone else get something different from this? I would love to hear everyone's ideas!

Hi Erin, I have only just started the Soul Detox plan, and so have just read Day 2. Like you, I was a little confused at first. I read the ESV, and I had to think a lot about what Paul was saying (which is never a bad thing!). I would agree with you that this is what Paul is teaching – that although we battle with the flesh (ie our toxic thoughts) we are equipped with spiritual weapons to fight with, which are so much more powerful than the flesh. The most poignant part of the passage for me was verse 5, which Amy commented on, about taking every thought captive to obey Christ.
I think the very nature of toxic thoughts is that they are not the Truth that Jesus enables us to walk in, and the Word of God is a double edged sword that trains us and equips us with the Truth that enables us to take every thought captive. After reading this passage I feel even more stirred and inspired to read more of the Bible, that I might be better equipped with Truth to take toxic thoughts captive!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts – Thank you Amy, too – I found it so helpful to read them and know of other women around the world reading the same scriptures as me : )

Awesome Hannah! I feel the same way as you, after reading everyday I feel so inspired to keep going. & it's not just the excellent verses they picked out but the way the devotionals are written are so great!

      Hi Erin,
I am just starting the Soul Detox but I wanted to recommend using the NLT translation. It is so easy to ready and more relatable. I find myself struggling through a lot of verses when using the NKJV so when the pastor at my church started reading from the NLT I was amazed at how current and relevant it sounded. I know it has helped me quite a bit and thought I would pass on the suggestion to you :)
