weekly truth

Open Your Bible

1 Thess 5:14

Today, as a body of women, let’s meditate on and memorize God’s word. Not for our own glory or honor, but for the joy of our Father and the growth of His Truth in our hearts.

And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 1 Thess 5:14 NIV

Blessings to all SRT Sisters! I haven’t commented since advent, but today please pray for newborn Blake and his family. They need Gods merciful healing.
    Very well put Carolynmimi!
    Have a wonderful Spirit-filled day!

I struggle with codependent issues. Christaindom can be the worst at promoting codependency. There are times we must walk away from harmful situations, as yesterday's reading said "whenever possible". And today said we are to warn the idle. There's this sense out there that we are to be super woman. To allow all the evil to come upon us, and in that we loved enough everything will be ok. But we are told not to put up with sin as well. So it's a balancing act. The times I felt led to stand firm in my marriage with certain behaviors we made great strides. The times I have chosen to love my daughter without condemning her lifestyle we have made great strides. So wherever God takes me is ok. Sometimes I stand on the soap box, and sometimes I use the soap to clean up the situation, and sometimes I just take a bubble bath to wash away all the frustration of the world, knowing i have little, if any control. Either way, to be following Gods lead is what's important and keeps me sane…or at least a close facsimile ;)

I hear you. Love the soap box illustration.

      1. Emily P says:

Thanks..I also should have added there are times I need to wash out my mouth with soap !!! ;D

          Me, too. Ouch!

Oh, Emily, I love this: "Sometimes I stand on the soap box, and sometimes I use the soap to clean up the situation, and sometimes I just take a bubble bath to wash away all the frustration of the world, knowing i have little, if any control." Thank you for that. And I'm with you on washing out my mouth at times. God bless you.

Thank you Lauren…I think it was God given…He knows I love word pictures.

Thank you God for the reminder! It has been an exhausting year at school with an exceptionally exhausting week last week…Patience is the key. I need to continue to be patient. I am the only Jesus some of these kids will see.

Memorizing it in NIV, but was really moved by The Message, because of the word pictures it creates in my mind and the responses encouraged:

"Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part.

Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on.

Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet.

Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs.

And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other.

Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. "

    (1 Thessalonians 5:14, 15 MSG)

So today, Lord, help me do my part, be patient with each person even the cranky ones, hold my tongue unless I can encourage or relieve someone's load or pull them out of a blue funk. Lord, remind me of those who have done those things for me and give thanks. And Lord, let me see with Spirit eyes, what you see in the individuals I meet and do what I with your Spirit can do to bring it out. And, Lord Jesus, especially bless the sisters who come to SRT with burdens, boldness, and blessings, all of us at one time or another that today may be filled with your presence and peace. Amen

I typically prefer a slightly more formal version than The Message, but the way today's scripture is translated – as you posted – really drove the point home to me. Thanks for sharing!

        Amen. A beautiful prayer Carolynmimi.

LaurenC, I read several…right now I am comparing NET with NIV. But I use the Message, which is really a paraphrase, to help me sort things out at times. This week that has been especially helpful to me. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoy reading the different versions. The Message really spells it out in today's verse. Also, Carolynmimi, thank you for your beautiful, heartfelt prayer~

It is very interesting to see this verse in other translations. I typically stick with the NCV, but when I read the NIV version given i thought it would be worth a look at some others. The list is stated in many different ways… But one truth stayed the same no matter which version I read (even the Message): be PATIENT.

Wow, that's awesome. Thanks for posting this! Such a truth. Amen!

As I seek The Lord this morning to question Him about taking on a ministry project which helps young, single Moms…….this verse spoke…thank you Father in heaven.
