“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.”
Galatians 6:9-10 NLT
i pray that i will not get tired of doing good. Lord help me to not give up.
“As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.”
Galatians 6:14 NLT
may i only boast about the cross of Jesus Christ.
Definitely challenged my unforgiveness toward former church leaders. Thankful for grace. Humility. Peace. The way Jesus allows us to supernaturally forgive because He’s forgiven us. I told God recently I’m ready to try to find a new church home after not being in one for 4 months. Scared but ready. That verse about being with believers as well as forgiving and restoring to leadership because I one day might need forgiveness. All I can do is pray for them. It’s hard to restore when no one is removed from leadership due to a lack of accountability.
One question I ask myself today is, have I wish to harm upon others? Many times we can become jealous or envious of others and wish difficulty or harm upon them even if we don’t mean it. Today I’m going to take time to ask for forgiveness and a heart that loves others and is happy to see others doing well even if I am not. I know that if I continue to pursue and keep that endurance by walking in the spirit and doing good pleasing things to the Lord, I will reap blessings and godly things
Because we are, and should be missional, we often forget the witness of the church to the world as expressed through Galatians 6:10; 1 John 4:11 and Romans 12:9-13. I am new to the SRT community, but l love the way sharing our thoughts, impressions, and encouragements here lives those verses out.
Even though we are not physically connected, I feel as though we are, and I am blessed by reading everyone’s comments and love how this is a community who share needs and pray for the needs of others.
7Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” May we remember the cost of the cross of Christ which makes us citizens of heaven and not of this world. May we not love the things of the world.
Bearing one another’s burdens is such an important thing, and it made me think how we lightheartedly did this for our pastor Sunday. He was recent injured on a missions trip, and our music team all sported black sock “braces” on our left wrists to joke with him that we are sharing his burdens. We have been praying for him, and our pastor who always enjoys a good laugh, joke, or penal was cheered up by our symbol of sharing his burdens.
I read the last 4 days of Job in the message version, it was so very helpful. I’m excited to read the new Job study to help me get an even better understanding in a few weeks!
Watched the video on Job . Very powerful . A pastor friend of mine gave me an analogy. He said our trials are like getting on the train and when the train goes through the tunnel we don’t try to jump off
We trust the engineer and he will bring us through the darkness until we see the light again.
14-16 For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate. Can’t you see the central issue in all this? It is not what you and I do… It is what God is doing, and he is creating something totally new, a free life! All who walk by this standard are the true Israel of God — his chosen people. Peace and mercy on them!
Job 31: “35 Oh, that I had one to hear me!
(Here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me!)
Oh, that I had the indictment written by my adversary!
36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder;
I would bind it on me as a crown;”
I have always read this as what I should do as a sinner, letting God call out my sins and then taking ownership of them. I thought if I showed the world I am not perfect then I have the perfect reason to need a perfect savior. But I missed the point completely! Verse 36 is such an eery foreshadow of the things Christ would do just prior to his death. He carried our sins on his shoulder by the literal weight of the cross and bound a crown of our sins on his head. Christ has taken ownership of my sins and because of him I am forgiven.
Love that we can trust God IN all the difficulties of life, not just PAST THEM! Love that we have these great examples of those He enabled to trust Him, hope that He can help me trust and surrender too!!
Hi, Emerson and Angie! I would love to help you understand the book of Job better. It happens to be one of my favorite Old Testament books! I might not understand every single thing, but I can try. Any ideas of how we can get this going?
What richness there was in those two chapters of Job. They showed his understanding of how God desires and requires of us to relate to our world. With humility, generosity, forgiveness, compassions, hospitality – the list goes on and on. He understood his Hope wasn’t in his wealth, he wasn’t worried about what others would think, he was willing to admit openly when he was wrong. He knew who his hope was in and who he was serving. Oh that I would be able to do all of this! And still it is so easy to forget that not all difficulty was caused by God. It is not all discipline. It is just easier for us to again focus on ourself and think we did something — sometimes it is adversity ALLOWED by God but not caused by him. The beauty is that if we will trust him with it, He will turn it into something that brings him glory! If Job hadn’t gone through all of this I’m not sure we would ever have heard about him! The beautiful examples we learn through his story wouldn’t be in this book with his name on it. As we learned from Esther – if we don’t allow ourself to be used by God he will use someone else, we aren’t essential to the plan, His will will still be done. But Job suffered, he cried out to God, he walked through it still seeking God and trying to see his plan and God blessed him. And he blesses us through him. Oh that I would fix my eyes on Jesus and allow Him to walk me through my sorrows. I’m so thankful for these sweet reminders!
Thank you, a year later, for this!! What an encouraging post — you’re SO RIGHT, God’s will will prevail regardless of OUR willingness — it’s just so much better to walk WITH Him! And I agree with your prayer, especially this year for our family which has already been hard. That we would trust HIM with our battles, & that He would walk with us. Thank you for sharing!
Oh how I am so guilty of being sucked in to gossip and judgement. I have made it my New Years goal for the past several years to stop being so negative and to stop putting down others to “make myself look good”. I have failed miserably. I pray that God will remind me to speak gently and not to worry about anyone but me.
I’m in overwhelming pain but nowhere nothing like Job’s loss in a day. Job writhes: “Here’s my signature! Let the Almighty answer me!” Job 31:35. Looks like Job is “caught” in his sin—love Gal 6:1-2 overlapping. “Watch yourself!” All I can deal with is my own sin and let the Holy Spirit deal with my husband and kids.
Bev, it sounds like you are having one of those days. I am sorry. Saying a prayer for you. I have a hard time letting God control things…glad to see your remark of letting the Holy Spirit deal with your family! I should have remembered that earlier…never too late however.
You will chuckle at this… I replied to your comment, not seeing you replied to mine. Funny. Must have been that kind of day for both of us… God has a sense of humor, and love how he allows perfect strangers, yet beloved sisters, to share this journey together…being encouraged & united by His Spirit!
Bev, yoy will chuckle at this… I replied to your comment, not seeing you replied to mine. Funny. “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.” … This week I have found myself discouraged by all the negativity I have been seeing/reading on social media. People so passionate about their beliefs, expressing themselves with not-so-gentle words, trying to get their point across… And I have been tempted to join in, letting my tongue loose. Thank you Lord for the reminder today that we are called to speak the truth gently.
Yes! Same here. I’ve found myself reading posts and mocking people to husband in not so kind words and name calling. Then tempted to share posts in not so gentle words. That will only hurt my witness. Thank you for relating these verses to social media.
I love this! It’s so easy to be crass and overbearing, but at times it is more worthwhile to be gentle and understanding. This reminder is much needed for myself!
Job…21 “if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,
knowing that I had influence in court,
22 then let my arm fall from the shoulder,
let it be broken off at the joint.” I rested in this verse for two reasons: first, it reminds me of our reading in Psalms over the weekend “forgive my hidden faults.” Job calls out the “if,” even though he feels confident in his stance. And second, I dislocated my shoulder three weeks ago and am still recovering..I cringed when I read that because it’s not a little pain to bear..and the time to heal is significant. I thought that was very telling in his description.
“Oh, that I had someone to hear me!
I sign now my defense—let the Almighty answer me”… I just wondered this morning how many times I feel like Job…lost, confused, sad, disappointed, put down, lonely, and feeling like God is not present & just not hearing me… Sometimes I am too self-righteous, sometimes it is true deep pain, sometimes I am too judgmental of others (forgetting that “as we have opportunity to to good to others…especially the family of believers”. To wrapped up in everything and fail to see that God was aware of what Job was going through, even if it ~felt~ like deep silence from the Lord. My only “boast” should be in the “cross”… Deeply convicted! Hard to do…
It’s so neat in Galatians 6:9,10 that Paul is challenging the Galatians, and us, to keep doing good and to trust God with the results. We will reap a harvest of blessing in due time. Job needs a fresh reminder and to keep the faith! Oh that I will never boast in anything except in the Lord Jesus Christ and keep the faith by crucifying myself to the world!
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, especially to those of the household of faith” Galations 6:10. I was super convicted by this verse this morning. The person that God first brought to my mind that I should be looking to serve is my husband. I very often don’t see him as a “one another” in the bible. I get easily annoyed when he asks me to do small things for him, or he forgets something and asks me to cover his forgetfulness. I won’t always be married to him. Jesus could return at any moment and either one of could die at any moment. He’s a godly man who looks and cares for me. I should count it as a privilege and a joy that God gives me opportunity every day to do good for the kingdom by serving my husband
Powerful, Amber! Preach it! I needed to read your words this morning, after I took in His words. Thanks for sharing what was on your heart & being vulnerable!
Thank you for this point of view, Amber. It is so easy to get caught up in the every day and become annoyed easily. We need to always be working on our focus!
Thank you Amber for this reminder even though I am new to the SRT and am just reading your post a year later! My husband is so kind and helpful to me and yet at times I overlook all of his gifts and focus on things that don’t really matter! I’m so convicted by this. How can I possibly be there for anyone else if I’m not there first for the one God himself gave to me! When I told him this morning how sorry I was for not treating him as well as I could, he just held me and said he wasn’t even aware of it! ouch. God knew. I knew. Forgive me Father and enable me by your power within me to love my husband rightly, in the name of Jesus.
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Oh, that Job would have known that his future was one of good! Sisters, we WILL reap a harvest. Today, let us focus on the voice of the Holy Spirit that prompts us on how to navigate the waves of this life so that we may always know the victory of the One who revealed the Father’s heart. He is worthy of trust, honor, and praise! Be strengthened in the Lord, today, friends.
I can’t wait to read the final chapters together of God’s response!
Now I understand Job’s point of view! I thought he had been believing he had earned the disasters, when he hadn’t. But today’s reading makes it clear to me now!
Today I want to look out for others and seek to ‘lighten their burdens’ in little ways throughout my day. I’ve read that verse countless times but have always missed the punch line of, “and so fulfil the law of Christ.” We are called and commanded to a life of love. This isn’t an option. It’s meant to be the joyous theme of our lives. Lately I have become more aware that all around me are people carrying heavy (often invisible) burdens. I may not always know what their burden is but small words of encouragement and little things done in love can make a big difference. I want to be a burden-lifter today!
Jesus says in Matthew 10 (The Message), “This is a large work I’ve called you into but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice.”
A proverbial cool cup of water is something we all could consciously do probably every day. :)
What a wonderful reminder to be a burden-lifter. This jumped out at me too from helping lift others’ burdens and also allowing others to help lift mine. It requires us to live in community and have a level of dependence on each other. It’s passages like this that also remind me how counterintuitive it is to our culture (in North America) where we take so much pride and prestige in doing things on our own and being self made. I’m definitely guilty of this. Furthermore, what an illusion I live under if I believe that I have created my life or successes myself through “pulling myself up by the bootstraps”. I only have God to thank in humility for every blessing from above.
Such a beautiful reminder, Christina. I never thought about how this verse applies to allowing others to help carry our burdens. What a beautiful message that God doesn’t want us carrying these heavy loads by ourselves, he has given us each other.
Jess, you really got it! I was diagnosed with breast cancer, went through chemo and now the follow up surgeries. I’ve been so blessed to heal and be in remission. But the kindness of others has been amazing. All along I have thought that the deliberate and unknowing Kindness to me from others are like love letters from God and Christ reminding me of their love for me.
17 if I have kept my bread to myself,
not sharing it with the fatherless—
18 but from my youth I reared them as a father would,
and from my birth I guided the widow—”
Job knows that looking after the orphan and widow is so close to God’s heart that it’s a huge mark of being his follower. Convicted of this again.
The Church, as a whole, needs to be convicted of this, again. And, I think singles in our churches are often overlooked, too. Some of them could be counted as “orphans” & all of them can benefit from some family time with others. Thanks for your comment, Tori; very good observation.
15 Did not he who made me in the womb make him?
And did not one fashion us in the womb? – Job 31:15

Yes! Key word, Gentleness!
I’m always right with Job when he screams of injustice. (31:3)

When I told him this morning how sorry I was for not treating him as well as I could, he just held me and said he wasn’t even aware of it! ouch. God knew. I knew. Forgive me Father and enable me by your power within me to love my husband rightly, in the name of Jesus.
14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Love this reminder!
And then vs 15… What counts is becoming a new creation.
Amen!
I Am excited for tomorrow as well!!!!
I too was struck by the cross over between Job and Galatians today. :)
I needed to be reminded of this as I go through this season of my life. Thank you sister :)
Thanks for your words, Jess! Yes! Me, too!
Love this translation.
Jess I meant to respond to you but it showed up as a separate entry. Thank you for pointing this reading out. I agree with you!
Me too!
As a 24-year old single female living very far away from any family members, I second that. :)
I always associate orphans with young children but you are right to include the singles… thank you for this.
So true, Tori.
