4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” This particular verse struck me today. Talk about being called out! Praying that I am never complacent in my “paneled house” but always striving to further the kingdom!
Agreed! Esp as I am in the midst of Christmas shopping… Haggai is a good reminder to truly think about what I’m asking for and what I’m giving. It is so easy to focus on the shiny and pretty material goods, but that is not the focus of the season.
i remember how Jesus appeared in my dream a few years back, when my husband and I were so busy with our business, so consumed about building wealth… He told me in that dream in an angry tone, “What are you doing? Why aren’t you doing anything for my Kingdom?”
I was so bothered when I woke up… the first thing I did was to pray, and asked that if it was really Him speaking to me, please confirm it through His Word. When I opened the Bible, God led me to the book of Haggai. He was indeed convicting us of our misplaced priorities… Being busy chasing wealth and making it as an excuse, ignoring His call for us to Disciple people, to do our part in building His Kingdom… In 2013, my husband and I finally obeyed and started a discipleship group of single men and women… it has been such a huge blessing to us! The joy of seeing our disciples grow in their relationship with God could never be compared to any amount of wealth.
The book of Haggai will always hold a special place in my heart…

5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.”
We have so much…but somehow, we always want more. God is do good to us to remind us through his word.
God has supreme authority. I need to recognise his sovereignty.
I love how god reminds us to stop focusing on what our house looks like & focus on his house.
