  2. Najah Turner says:

John 3:12-14 stuck out the most to me because I am currently struggling with my relationship with my older sister as I gotten older I realized her trauma with our mother effects our relationship and makes it hard for her to connect with me. I continue to remain the strong and pray for us to come together. I pray god removes the hate from her heart and heals her trauma.

  3. Lauren Garza says:

He is worthy. He is Holly. He is honest. He changes us. He doesn’t leave us the same. We are his children not as slaves. It gives us good gifts. His pier. He is love. His righteous. He laid down his life for us. He knows all. He loves.

There was so much good stuff. I loved what first John said and some of it was some hard truths but so good. I want to abide in God and know Him more because He is all that matters.

  6. Mariah Nichole says:

18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. – 1 John 3:18

Understanding Gods word and just seeing this love for us in word and in actions just pokes me to work on loving better daily ! I pray to love and care for others the way God loves and cares for me !

  12. Mikki Fraser says:

14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

-powerful words and a good reminder in this time of massive division.

  15. Sarah Johnson says:

I’ve really loved reading 1 John. Today a huge takeaway is what love actually looks like. I think I let the world define love for me too often. I’m praying that my definition of what love is and does would come from scripture and Christ’s example, not from movies or what others tell me it should be.

  16. Blanquita Sansevi says:

    ❤️

  17. Sharon Ide says:

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared. The now and not yet is the tension we live in, but John gives us simple instructions. Keep his commandments. And above all keep the commandment to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

  18. E Hong says:

1See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

To love in deed and in truth…loved todays reading.

  22. Emily Henry says:

I like the concept from Ezekiel of entering through one gate and leaving through another. It reminds of of our sins being as far the east is from the west. It also makes me think of repentance – turning and going the other way. I considered that in the organizing of temple worship and sacrifices that it might have been a logistical way of keeping the flow of traffic orderly. But I also think God designed things with more than just order in mind.

Praying for this more, that I can carrry out His deeds and call for me each day:
“Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

  26. Alli Habe says:

Praying for this more, that I can carrry out His deeds and call for me each day:

  27. Steph C says:

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are” (1 John 3:1). We were enemies of God, yet He made a way of reconciliation. And not just reconciliation, but adoption. God knows me and loves me! He redeemed me and made me His child. Oh, what love!

  28. Christen says:

18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

This verse is so powerful to me. We have to act on our love and our words. We can’t just keep saying things without acting on them.

    1. Signe says:

This is the verse out of the whole text that stood out most to me , as well

  29. Caitlyn says:

13 Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.

These verse has popped up in my mind many times lately. It’s a difficult time to stand-up for Christian beliefs. It seems like everyone, but Christians has the right to say what they believe to be true.

I find comfort in knowing that God knows of our struggles in this world, and promises us things far greater than this world can offer.

  30. Caralee says:

It’s such a great comfort that God is greater than our hearts.

  31. Peyton Stamate says:

So many laws, such specifics… Praise God that He knew our hearts and still He sent His Son to be the ultimate atoning sacrifice for us. What a blessing! What a gift!

  32. Tiffany Lucas-Harding says:

1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Love this verse because God does not ignore the fact that people will deny him and his believers

  33. Rachel says:

    1 John
16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

I pray we all have an opportunity to give more than gifts this year. An opportunity to really experience Christmas. What is Christmas? Lights? Trees? Presents? Stress? Food? Time with family? I have never really liked Christmas season and for those who have known me for years they might say I’m a Scrooge. This year I am blessed by so many things including the strange busyness of non-Christmas things and strange weather. I’m glad it hasn’t “felt like Christmas”. It has made me ask myself “What is Christmas to me?” ( thanks Mom) And I think I have been missing out on the experience all along. As I get older I am realizing Christmas is like passing money around a circle to each other. Please don’t get me wrong I love giving gifts because it truly is the thought and the heart of it that count. But how do we give the way Christ did? The way the one for whom we celebrate this holiday gave. First he forgave. Then he gave of himself. Then he gave his life. If we put ourselves in front of those three tasks how are we doing? I’ll tell you I’m not doing so great in my opinion. I have so many resources, talents, God given gifts, financial resources, and so much time that could be spent in generosity.
If we are called to love in deed so that the world may know the love of God (just like the action God took to send himself to this Earth to live and die with us for our good) than why is it that so little really know the love of God? I’d say it’s our missing the mark on that loving your brother part.
This year I’m loving Christmas. I’m loving my friends and family and time I get to slow down and reflect on all these things. I pray for myself and all the ones I love that we all have a change of heart. That we all find it refreshing how much it “doesn’t feel like Christmas”, refreshing to have the freedom to think it through and the freedom we have to let God use us and work in us in ways we can never fathom.
I pray we all let go and allow God to use us for true generosity. And that I’ll stop sitting on my butt thinking of all the ways I’m doing it wrong and start doing it right.

    Merry “Doesn’t feel like Christmas”
    :)

1 John is opening my eyes, heart, and mind!

  36. Tiffany says:

My first time posting in this community- so awesome! Ezekiel had my head spinning with all the laws and exact commandments to obey (measured out and weighed even!).

  37. Em says:

Isn’t it crazy how many laws there were? Goodness, I’d forget them all. SO thankful for Jesus and His gift of eternal life through sacrifice.

  38. Rose says:

I wish I could post these on Facebook like I could the other study. That would be awesome!

  39. Rose says:

Thankful that Jesus death on the Cross and God’s love for us make it so we don’t have to live life by the mosaic law.

    1. Lauren S says:

Yes Katrina! Believe and love Jesus and love one another. Amen.

      1. Hailey says:

I agree. and I think so many times it is easy to post on social media a bible verse or repost a Christian article on Facebook, but none of that stuff matter if we do not put His word and commandments and love to action! actions have the greatest impact

  45. Courtney says:

I love how this synced up with the advent reading for today. I’m overwhelmed when I even try to imagine the love that the Father has for us.

  46. Laura says:

9 “ ‘When the people of the land come before the Lord at the appointed festivals, whoever enters by the north gate to worship is to go out the south gate; and whoever enters by the south gate is to go out the north gate. No one is to return through the gate by which they entered, but each is to go out the opposite gate. 10 The prince is to be among them, going in when they go in and going out when they go out.
Seems almost like a physical representation of repentance…can’t go back the way you came? ;)

    1. Leah S says:

Good point Laura..I hadn’t thought of it that way!

    2. Hesaved83 says:

Laura, same revelation Holy Spirit gave me, Amen!

  47. Suzanne says:

When you stop to think how much God blessed Israel in order for them to bring so many animals for sacrifice in a year’s time, and still have an abundance for feeding themselves, and then think how much more we are blessed by having had Jesus make the ultimate sacrifice for us, how can we not praise God with everything we are?
