These two passages again confirm each other’s message: the prophets weren’t fighting the good fight of FAITH as Jeremiah repeatedly states, they were leading people—millions of people—astray with their falsehoods and boasting, making it sound good so they’d be popular. Paul tells Timothy that standing up for godliness is a FIGHT. It’s active, not passive. We cannot expect life to be what we want without an active pursuit of a Holy and Righteous God.

As Jeremiah says, we cannot hide from God. His Word is like fire burning away our selfish desires & motives, and like a hammer that chisels away our hardness and pride that keep us with a false sense of protection & security. Nothing we do can cover or hide our sin, no matter how we pretend to ignore it—only the blood of Jesus cleanses us. Only the blood of Jesus.

6-9 struck me. with Christmas coming we often worry about whether it’ll be fun. whether we’ll be able to travel to family. whether the carol concert will be over quickly or not. all this fretting. but God says ‘here come to me’. trust that I will keep you string in faith and full of joy. stop looking elsewhere. because in me is all. I big time need to stop making everything so negative but know that I’m fed, watered and loved in Christ. and once we realise this contentment, our faith starts to rise.

3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, 4 he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.
    Good reminder for this generation.

So true! We must look at everything through Jesus – that is to say with love! Love and understanding, no judgment!

  4. Katrina says:

1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

Earthly treasures of the world can’t be taken with us later on, so let’s me thankful and grateful for those things we cannot see or touch and people we have with us.

  5. Leah S says:

12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
I love this…such a reminder of our calling!

I love this! Thanks for emphasizing this verse!

  6. Chrisob says:

God, the blessed and only ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen

  7. Nicole says:

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain
Allowing this verse to rule in my heart today!

    1. Leah S says:

Yes! That whole section was so good…

  8. Laura says:

I’m really wondering about “the burden of the Lord” and what all that was about… clearly the Lord is very offended by people who claim to speak for Him and who lie instead.

So I looked at the study notes in my Bible for Jer. 23:33. My version for the She Reads Truth app is ESV, but my study Bible is NIV, which uses the word oracle instead of burden. But the note says,”The Hebrew word for this can also mean burden, a term that may refer to a burdensome message from the Lord.”
