He is there for us. He wants the best. He is. He wants us. He is life. He is gracious. He hates pride. He rose. He died for us. He is live. He is grace. His life is a gift!
“…. but the GIFT of God is eternal life.” I haven’t been baptized yet and it is my prayer that I be soon. I am right with God by his grace and I am ready to declare it to all.
In addition to the free gift of God our souls are fashioned to be obedient to righteousness. May we remember this and not present ourselves obedient to sin.
I was recently baptized praise God and I thank him for Romans 6:1-23 and the wonderful truth that Jesus is my righteousness and that I am a new creation! I have been buried with Christ and resurrected unto a new life. May i live it for God and his glory alone. Hallelujah hallelujah
“3Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
A friend of mine has recently been struggling with understanding why sin is bad when grace is present… romans 6 explains it so perfectly and I can’t wait to share it with her!
Amos 5:15-27 this was sooooo convicting. It’s easy to get comfortable in our walk with the Lord and treat our time with Him as a checklist and this shows us that doing that isn’t an accurate way to live for the Lord. He desires our heart above all else, not a silly checklist. We aren’t called to a life of comfort, but we are called to live a risky life all for the sake of the gospel.
I’m so glad I’ve signed up for this study! I am praying for endurance in keeping the path all the way through.
I just joined and I am thankful that I did!This is really going to keep me accountable!I loved Romans 6.It talked all about how even though we are sinners we were born again,wn we ask him into our lives!We get a chance to start over!Later it talks about how His free gift to us is eternal life!Who doesn’t love a free gift?
Yes, I love that eternal life is a free gift! It’s so easy to forget and easy to feel like we have to earn God’s love. But He so freely gives it to us and I am so grateful for that!!!
It is unfortunate that God must sometimes bring us to our knees to get our attention and help us come back to him. It is however the consequences of our actions that always lead to the hardships.
Sometimes it seems like we have to hit rock bottom in order for God to get our attention, but I’m thankful He doesn’t ever leave our side, even when we feel like we’ve hit the lowest of lows.
Beautiful are the words of life. I found it interesting that Amos mentions the “kine of Bashan”. Ps 22 also speaks of the “bulls of Bashan”. Apparently this is a reference to brute strength associated with oppression. Without Christ we are oppressed with sin and in turn offend God and oppress others. Oh my precious Lord cause me to hear and see your leading May I understand your chastening hand and turn from sin to you.
As I read Romans 6 I couldn’t help singing some of it. Songs of Scripture is a helpful product for memorization and they have Romans 6-8 set to music. I use the KJV but I think they have other versions as well.
I feel like Amos is a warning of God’s wrath (in the NT He’s not really so angry anymore) but these are the kind of things that made him mad. Sorry I know this is really colloquial but it’s the only way I can get to grips with it. He would punish the people and plant havoc in the land to show that he is all powerful and mighty in the hope that they would return to Him, beg for his forgiveness and realise that they were going astray, but despite seeing God’s wrath and living via hardship, they still didn’t turn to God. God loves it when His people turn to him during hard times, when people have faith that sometimes their own wrong doings are the reason for their own hardship and turn back to God for forgiveness and help/guidance He is always willing to help lead you or of that situation
I have read these verses a hundred times, but today it seems like the very first time. Feeling convicted and called to live free FROM sin and a slave to righteousness rather than the other way around! Thank you Abba Father for lifting my eyes to your Truth today! Help me to walk forward in Your righteousness!!!
I just joined today. I realize this is an answered prayer for me to have a community to get through this with daily. Thank you and may God bless you all today.
Today I am joining in this path to follow In gods word. I am just like any other soon-to-be teen. Always being put in peer pressure or being found hanging out in misleading groups. So far I have seperated myself from those people. If anyone could mention me in their prayers for me to help me continue in this path. This journey has been amazing so far and I already feel more “right with god” . Please let me know if I’m in your prayers,by replying to this post or contacting me, so that I can pray for you and your kind hear in mine.
Rachel- I am behind in my reading but now I am glad because I can pray for you. As a coach to your age group for the past many years, I have a heart for you girls… That you each would be in the Word of God daily & that He would lead you into all truth. He is the Way, the Truth & the Life and completely trustworthy. Trust Him fully sweet one.
Rachel, I don’t know if you’ll see this post because I’m just now reading this chapter, but I will pray that God uses you for His glory. May your ways be His ways in this life.
I kinda don’t really understand but I get that they mean that do not sin and also remember that are savior died for us but i don’t understand a lot of it
Sometimes reading random scriptures is confusing because we are kind of reading it out of context . Maybe try to read what is said before and after this specific reading . And possibly look up certain questions to help you understand ; like , ” who wrote this passage ” and ” what was happening historically during the period of time this passage was being written “, or simply ” why was this passage written ?”
Hi. Maybe try one of the short books that explain how we got the Bible. Or an introduction to the book we are reading. To help with context. Also, some apps, or books have more references and explanations about what’s been written. So if it doesn’t distract you too much find one of those. Hope that helps. Also pray about it. God will tell you what He wants you to know.
9 “I struck you with blight and mildew;
your many gardens and your vineyards,
your fig trees and your olive trees the locust devoured;
yet you did not return to me,”
declares the Lord. (Amos 4)
How crazy is it that Israel was so drenched in their sin that even after famine, death and extreme hardship, they still didn’t run back to God?! It just shows how incapable we are of dealing with our sin and making ourselves right with God. Thank God for the cross!
I was thinking the exact same thing Ella! Because of our incapabilities, He has to bring us to our knees in order to get our attention and draw us nearer to Him. Thank God for the cross indeed!
I have been struggling to read the word daily, life gets so busy but I know all of those things and distractions from God. Today was my first day back in a while and this is what I read! “Come back to the lord and live”! I needed those words today.
these verses in Amos are hard to swallow – but I love the simplicity and truth of 5:6 ‘seek the Lord and live’. ah… heart swoon. life and seeking the Lord go hand in hand, what a lovely truth.
Amos 5:6 “Come back to the Lord and live!” There is only one true remedy for a world that is sick and dying, it’s Jesus.
Remember:
Hope is found in seeking God, especially though hard times. So encourage others to seek Him as well!
13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
I don’t want to be an instrument of wickedness. Have you ever felt that? Like you allowed part of yourself to be offered to sin? I have…and I know when I do that. It’s so easy…to allow myself to indulge in gossip, to hang on to bitterness or anger, to judge someone else based on appearances. It’s quite easy to passively allow myself to remain available to sinfulness. BUT I have hope. Sin is not my master and I live under the promise of God’s grace. I want to be an instrument of righteousness offering every part of myself to Him. I’m thankful for a God that continues to give me hope and grace. Lord I am offering every part of myself.
I’ve been digging so much deeper into the readings thanks to this app and then reading along with commentary on this page: http://m.studylight.org/commentaries/guz/
Makes it so much more understand and cross references to other readings
Amos 4
7 “I also withheld the rain from you
when there were yet three months to the harvest;
I would send rain on one city,
and send no rain on another city;
one field would have rain,
and the field on which it did not rain would wither;
8 so two or three cities would wander to another city
to drink water, and would not be satisfied;
yet you did not return to me,”
declares the Lord.
I live in CA and (just in case you haven’t heard) we are in a drought. Our family’s livelihood depends on the rain for the crops. I continue to pray for the hearts of our nation’s people to return to the Lord. May His will be done.
Regardless of the life we live on Earth we are not judged…. No matter how much “stuff” piles in on us we always have to remember how redeemed we are each and every day!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Regardless of the life we live on earth we are not judged, not sure what you mean by that.
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.”
1 Peter 4:5 “But remember that they will have to face God, who stands ready to judge everyone, both the living and the dead.”
Just a couple of many verses that show us it really does matter how we live. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith but we no longer live for sin (like the rest of the world) but for God. As always, it’s a matter of the heart. ❤️
Romans 6:17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Love this!
Me too! This verse is similar: 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Praying that I live in NEWNESS of LIFE today!
Thank you Lord for dying for my sins. Thank you for giving me all the things I need and more.
He is there for us. He wants the best. He is. He wants us. He is life. He is gracious. He hates pride. He rose. He died for us. He is live. He is grace. His life is a gift!
I am set free from sin and enslaved to God. you have your fruit, which results in sanctification — and the outcome is eternal life! – Romans 6:22

I love reading Amos and Romans together and hearing this continued call to justice and righteousness.
Kinda a cool equation given to us in Romans: slaves to God=holiness=eternal life. What an awesome gift from god.

Romans I understand for the most part. The Amos chapters, I’m lost. Help understanding? Please?
I am challenging myself to stick with this! Off to a good start.
All this reading gets very overwhelming. I loose myself in some of the sentences and hard words. BUT had a great message

Is Amos not describing the world we live in today? Yet the Lord is awesome and on the throne and will rule in righteousness,
That’s the very thought I had this morning when reading
I also had that thought! Even down to the drought we are experiencing here in CA.
I was thinking this as well
