One of my absolute favorite verses in the Bible…. Ephesians 4:29

Yes! I needed so many words from this chapter on Ephesians today! You are not alone dealing with anger, defiance and my response to encourage and build up my family not tear down or take away opportunity to show obedience with my words.

15Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. -ellie

32Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Do not sin, be kind and tender hearted, speaking the truth, give no opportunity to the devil.

These 2 passages go together well–an example of a king of Judah (Ahaz) who got caught up in the religious practices of the nations around him (Gentiles), trying to mix the Jewish Law with Assyrian worship, “to seek guidance”. When I’m not focused on Jesus and the principles & practices set forth in His Word, it is so easy to look around, see what’s “working” for others, and conform to their ways of seeking guidance. Prov 3:5 says to “lean not on your own understanding.”
We don’t have to invent new ways to seek the Lord or do what seems flashy and cool in our culture at the moment–He is waiting (and wanting!) to speak to us in His Word, in prayer, in surrender and repentance, when we put Him absolutely first in our lives (Matt 6:33). Time in His word and prayer every morning has changed my life, my perspective, as well as how I react. Thank you, Jesus, that you are the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8), you don’t need anything new or fancy–you just want our hearts. May we always put you first & be renewed daily by your Spirit.

How do I get rid of my anger and bitterness as The Lord commands when someone constantly lets me down? When I’ve forgiven them over and over again only so they can let me down again and again? When I’m so tired of trying to be a light to them that I feel like I’ve given up on even trying?

Pray for an extra measure of grace, and for God to illuminate the places in your life where He has forgiven you – this has helped me so much, in my struggles with this issue! I have a real tendency towards bitterness & feeling like I shouldn’t have to be the ONLY one willing to forgive, but when I think of God and how much He’s forgiven me, how many times I repeatedly fail Him and hurt Him and give Him a reason to stop loving me, He never does and is ALWAYS quick to forgive! So I’ll pray the same thing I pray over myself, for you; that God would fill you with the knowledge of His love and forgiveness poured out over you, and that you would reach a place free from bitterness where you can readily extend that same love and forgiveness to others, no matter how much they let you down.
