Psalm 73 is striking today – in a world of social media with glitzy stories of the rich and famous, it’s good to be reminded that God is ever present and ever loving – and that accepting Christ as Savior and serving Him are the essentials – not a big & fancy life. i love that this is another example of something that was written so long ago and that it still resonates today. yay, God and His Word!!!
Exactly! My first thoughts were to the slick bodied-celebrities all our youth look up to. May God raise up leaders to point this generation to Christ and not a big fancy life! That serving Him would fulfill us in a way riches and fame cannot….let it start with us, Lord, HERE in Your word each day.
I’m sure I’ve read Psalm 73 multiple times but WOAH today it jumped out at me like never before. What a beautiful testimony of freedom from envy and bitterness and how God is with you through it all.
16 When I tried to understand all this,
it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary of God;
then I understood their final destiny.

Wow the lines “till I entered the sanctuary of God” resonates with me so much tonight! This morning my pastor preached about God’s chosen family.. About Abraham, Isaac, Rebecca, jacob and Esau . We see throughout Genesis how this family, this Chosen, beloved family of God is so afflicted and sinful. They are cast into so many problems and such suffering. But through this we learn that suffering does not automatically mean that we are not blessed by God. We can suffer to learn the blessings from God. Here, David is struggling with his sufferings. He looks into the world and sees how “easy” people have it, they don’t care about sin so they do whatever they want. Yet, the one liner, “till I entered God’s sanctuary” shows where this holy suffering leads. Those people might have pleasure in the world. But we will have joy and love and peace eternally!
28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds.
I loved this verse today. A reminder not to let anyone or anything besides the Lord be my refuge. It really is so good to be near God.
Psalm 73 is exactly what I needed to read because right from the beginning with 73:2 “But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold”, this stood out to me. I feel as though lately my faith has been wavering and reading Psalm 73 I felt as though it encompassed how I felt. I’m so blessed to have just found SRT. I love that at the end of Psalm 73 verses 24-26. “You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”. Even though my faith slips out of the foothold at times, there is nothing I desire more than a relationship with God because life on earth is only what it is through the blessings from God.
Amen! That all stood out to me as well. So thankful that we have the word to bring our focus back to God and what is truly important. It is so easy to get distracted by all the things of this earth and things going on in the natural.
I was brought to tears by the end of chapter 73. It was such a beautiful understanding of Hod and such faith and recognition is to be desired by all of us. I imagine that’s wisdom, like Solomon requested in yesterday’s reading. I also love what you said, “…life on earth is only what it is through the blessings from God.”
Wow. Psalm 73 was such an amazing read this morning. I really needed to read that..a great reflection on what’s important in life and what’s not. Happy Sunday friends!

I jumped into this plan just a few weeks ago. I was wondering if because each daily reading was a calendar day, would the plan disappear at the end of the year? Or could I continue through to January and wrap back around?
Hi Rebecca and welcome. The plan is to complete the bible in a calendar year . But unlike some plans that start in Genesis and Matthew and move through page by page this one does some moving around from book to book. So there isn’t a “wrap around”. But the study begins again in January, so it never really ends. Again, welcome, I hope you enjoy this study as much as I do.
