This was a really good reminder of how faithful the Lord is , and it shows that when the enemy tries to tempt you, you can always back yourself up in the The word.
The replies that Jesus quotes to Satan from Deuteronomy are really interesting! I flipped back to Deuteronomy and found that 1. Bread sustains but it doesn’t guarantee life which is God’s gift to those who trust in him and live by his word and 2. Emphasis is scripture is always on what God does and not on what his people achieve. We can’t forget what God has done for us.
So I’m reading this late but I thought about how crazy powerful jesus reading Isaiah in the synagogue to fulfill scripture. It just blew me away that God has everything timed out perfectly from our living and breathing scripture to our lives. It is so beautiful and renewing my faith!
I was confused in verses 7 and 8 of 2 Samuel 21 when it says David spared Mephiboseth and then delivered Mephiboseth to be hanged. I then learned that there are two Mephiboseths in Samuel! The son of Jonathan , spared by David, and a “son” of Saul, who was hanged.
Thanks for your honesty, Amber! So often I read so fast and need to slow down sit that God can speak to my heart instead of just checking something off. Praying for focus and that he continues to speak to all of our hearts!
It must have been difficult for David to make the decision to sacrifice saul’s relatives to end the famine. My heart breaks for the mother and families we . I am impressed by David’s faithfulness and prayer to God
Amen Shirl! I thought the same thing, how sad that was for the families. And the mother sat faithfully by the bodies so that they wouldn’t be desecrated by animals, etc. I praise God, I’m so thankful that I live under His grace, in the shadow of Jesus on the cross.
The reading from Luke was FULL of new things for me today! I have been a Christian for 36 years and I love when I find new things. It just proves even more that Gods word is alive. So, first I noticed that the third time Satan tempted Jesus, he tried to use Scripture as Jesus had done in the previous 2 temptations. But Jesus comes back with more Scripture to fight that temptation. My husband often reminds me that Scripture does not contradict itself. This is a perfect example for me. Jesus used another passage to show that Satan was using Scripture for his own advantage and not how it was intended. I loved seeing the way Jesus shows us how to compare Scripture with Scripture to find out what God is really saying. All the more reason for us to be “truth readers” so we can know what God’s Word really says and what it means as a whole. That was only the first thing I learned! Haha! Secondly, we work with the extremely poor population of Roma (gypsy) people in Romania. It’s very hard some days to see their lives in comparison to my own healthy, “rich” one. But I see here that Jesus says that God doesn’t always save/heal/rescue every person that needs it. He gives examples like: what he did in Capernaum, he would not be doing Nazareth. Elijah only went to one widow in all of Israel, but there were plenty more who could have used the help. I think my job is to stay close to the Lord through His Word and prayer to find out which of our roma people are the ones he wants us to invest in. Sorry for the long saga. I kind of wrote it out for myself to come and look back on.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It made me realize that I’ve been doing my reading lately to check it off my to do list each day. I want it to mean more. SRT ladies please pray that I’ll commit to prayer before my daily reading and to be more aware of what God is calling me to do each day. Please also pray that I’ll commit to a prayer journal to help me recognize His voice and His work in my life, without it becoming a check list
Amber, I do that a lot too so every so often I pull out my handy book, Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life and reread the chapter on Bible intake. It’s so helpful. It reminds me to meditate on the Word which I often skip. Meditation can be asking ourselves questions like “what is this passage saying about God’s character?”, “Is there a promise to claim?”, “a sin I need to confess?”, “something to thank God for?”. I hope that helps and I pray we all slow down and soak up what God is teaching us and grow closer to Him.
I often get caught up in catching up on the days reading, that I read too fast. Thanks for sharing those questions! I will ask them to myself when I read now.
Amber, praying for you today. Especially that the Word will be alive for you in a fresh way, and that you will come away changed from your encounter with Him. That’s my prayer for all of us. There is some profit in the discipline, but the rich blessings come from knowing Him better and allowing Him to change us to be conformed more to His image. Blessings!
I totally noticed your first point as well today! I’m reading it late ;) but I noticed that satan is smart and uses scriptures to tempt jesus but our God is so much bigger and smarter! He is ultimate perfect truth and sees through the deception and twisted ways of satan! It was pretty amazing to read and realize this morning.
2 Sam 22-25 MSG
Beautiful descriptive of Gods goodness and character as we yield to him this morning – so thankful. I love my Lord and Saviour he is still exactly the same with us as he was with David creating something astounding out of us and the journey we are on -stand assured steadfast in faith hope and love!
“God made my life complete
when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I cleaned up my act,
he gave me a fresh start.
Indeed, I’ve kept alert to God’s ways;
I haven’t taken God for granted.
Every day I review the ways he works,
I try not to miss a trick.
I feel put back together,
and I’m watching my step.
God rewrote the text of my life
when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.”
I love you, God ❤️
The song was so beautiful and relatable. God has built me up in spite of the hate and pain I’ve faced. Glory!

The Spirit of the Lord is on me %
– He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor and bring justice to the captives
The song from David is a nice reminder to cast all worries and doubts onto the Lord. HE is our refuge.
“This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” ♥️

29For you are my lamp, O Lord,
and my God lightens my darkness.

According to Wikipedia:
Lol David saying he was righteous after all the disastrous decisions he’d made…
4I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies. -ellie
What a song from David! Which Psalm is it?
Psalm 18 ❤️
This God – his way is perfect;
The word of the LORD proves true;
He is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
Pity the ones who will not trust the Lord and take refuge in him. Have mercy on them oh Lord.
2 Sam 22:20 “He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me”. To think of God delighting in any of us …

Thanks Bridget I was so confused on that part too! You helped me understand the Bible a little better

A powerful and comforting reminder this morning.

Thank you! I was reading different translations to see what I was missing! Mephibosheth must have been a popular name back then!

I appreciated hearing a bit of your story and insight into the scriptures today, Becky! Thanks for sharing.
Praise God he is using you in Romania!
