Man, this is my fourth time going through this book of the Bible and I’m still not tired of it. I love how Naomi returns saying “…I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty.”
But not too long later Ruth is returning to her wth hands full of barley (and a promise for a family redeemer) and says “He(Boaz) said to me ‘do not rerun to your mother-in-law empty handed.”
Man, if this Book isn’t full of God’s redemption I don’t know what is.-

“33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 34 Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame”. I feel like these verses sort of summarize the problems in Judges. And Naomi and Ruth were mindful of God – not ignorant. They were not cunning in a more conniving way to meet their needs like Tamar. They followed God’s laws for their protection. Then centuries later Paul is still calling God’s people to commit themselves (and us too) to knowing God and his ways and respecting Him. I love the harmony of God’s Word! Centuries of showing us again and again who God is and what He expects of us

It is so refreshing to read Ruth after reading Judges. I am in tears at the goodness of God as he showers Ruth & Naomi with blessings after the hard hard life they’ve led! May our actions reflect the heart of the Father as Ruth’s did – and she wasn’t even an Israelite! She was a foreigner! Hope for all of us that despite whether we accepted Christ 20 years or 20 minutes ago, He is FOR us and will shower us with love and redemption when we submit our lives to His will.
