Paul, in verse 11, in referring to the Old Testament stories he just wrote about, says these things happened… He is affirming even the small details in the OT are truth. These are not just stories. Paul says they happened and are recorded for our instruction. I hope that makes all of us very hesitant to question the validity or God’s word.

There’s a lot to take in with the parable of Jotham and Mount Gerizim. Until I googled it I had no idea why he kept talking about trees.

  3. Antimony says:

Judges 10:11, 13-14 “the Lord said to … Israel, ‘Did I not save you from [all sorts of people]? Yet you have forsaken me … therefore I will save you no more. Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you’.” What a very different picture. They sin. They cry. He rejects them.

12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

How many people in the bible needed to hear this? How many people today need to hear this? How often do I myself need to hear this!!! Don’t get comfortable in your faith, and let it become blind habit. Don’t take for granted the blessings and warnings that God gives us through his word. I needed to hear this today and be reminded that He is always first.

1 Corinthians 10: 31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God—
A reminder that if we call ourself a Christian then we should act like one in all we do and say so that we do not cause anyone to stumble due to our actions. We must behave humbly, with kindness and consideration and let our lives open His door to salvation for others. If we are prideful, judgemental,or intellectual in promoting our faith then we are not being true Christians sharing the Word as Jesus instructed us to do. We are causing stumbling blocks.

Pretty much sums up what I was going to say :). Love these verses

We are also called to be “set apart” from the world. If non-believers see no difference in us, then why would they want to be like us?

22 Now Abimelech ruled over Israel three years.
It astounds me that this happened, and then crazy Abimelech ruled over them for three years. It must have seemed like it would never end. But it did happen. A good reminder to me that He makes all things new in His time, and He does right wrongs. Maybe not when we want, or how we want. But He is so faithful, even when we are faithless.

  7. Kendall says:

1 Corinthians 11:33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.
What a great reminder that we should not be for ourselves but for others. It’s so hard to remember that sometimes. I feel like I always ask God about myself and hardly ever ask for others.

“And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.” –Judges 10:16b (NKJV)

–Today I’m overwhelmed by God’s unfailing love! This verse shows me the heart of God, a loving Father… He doesn’t rejoice when I go through misery/suffering because of the consequences of my sins… as He disciplines me, He also grieves… He is hurting to see me hurt, but He loves me enough to not let me wander far away from Him….
