I wonder why the people wanted Jesus to leave after he healed the demon-possessed man? But it’s so great that the man stayed to tell the tale and people began to believe him and be amazed
Wonderful to see the faithfulness of Joshua of Nun, as well as God’s kindness to sustain more than 600,000 through the wilderness despite the Israelites’ fickle and rebellious hearts.
Aw, this was a really nice post. In concept I wish to put in writing like this additionally ?taking time and actual effort to make an excellent article?however what can I say?I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something done.
Love the passage in Mark 5:19-20 “…He said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.” This is how Gods message is spread– people who have been changed by Jesus telling others what God has done for them!
I thought this connection was cool: Drink offerings added to sacrifice- not as atonement, but as extra to please the Lord though it can’t atone for sin. We are living sacrifices (Romans 12) that pour out our lives as drink offerings (2 Tim. 4:5-7) to please the Lord, not for atonement because our Great Lamb has already done that! May we live our lives in light of this!
The scene of the man with the legion of demons has long played out like a movie in my mind. Never a dull moment for Jesus, who gets confronted with this mentally ill man the instant his boat docks to shore. How wonderful our savior, that he sees us in our tormented minds, and through his power frees us into new life. Thank You God for being a Father not just to the every day sinners like me, but to the fragile and tormented of mind — truly you love us, truly you see us & you meet us where we are at!
This story is also a good reminder of how highly God views humanity, His creation – 2000 pigs vs one man; the man will always win. How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure!
I do love that God provided for women in a time when most thought no provision was necessary. And I wondered at the reason that Jesus sent the possessed man back to his kin rather than stay with Him. Then I realized the amazing testimony that he would have and how God would work in the lives of his family through his changed life. Too groovy!
I’m grateful that God always had a plan for us. Looking at Numbers 27 was overwhelming with all of the sacrifices they had to give at specific times of day and month. I’m glad Jesus got on the cross and made Himself the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you Jesus!!!
How sweet is Numbers 27!? I love that at a time when women were so often passed over, God said that they were valuable. He made it a statute forever that they could in fact receive the inheritance when that would have been absurd to other people/nations! (And this little gem is tucked away in a book of census and sacrifice and law- so easy to miss- and such a good reminder that God reveals his character through even the little details in the “hard books” of three bible! =)
Caroline, I have been in a similar situation. I dated a guy for almost 4 years who was in the navy. He left after we graduated from high school and we had only been dating for 10 months at the time, but we spent every day together. It was hard when he left and there were many lonely days and lots of tears. I want to encourage you to stay as busy as you can. Spend time with family and friends. Surround yourself with people who will be there for you. It’s difficult, but the time apart definitely makes you appreciate your time together. Praying that you will find peace in your heart to get through this time. When you can send letters, send bible verses to him as encouragement. Pray for him. I know exactly how you’re feeling but I promise it gets better with time! Let me know if I can do anything to help!
Caroline. Keeping you in my prayers for both of you, for safety and courage. Don’t forget to Call on the other wives in his unit , for local support and join in their get-togethers. That is what they are there for.
(From on military wife to another!!) God bless!!! You can do this!!!
Sisters, I need your prayer and encouragement. I have been married to my wonderful husband for the best 16 months of my life. Tomorrow, he will be leaving for a series of Army trainings. This first one will last 2 months with the only communication being letters and a phone call or 2. When he is finished with this training, he will have 4 days to see me before he goes to the next one for another 3 months. This will be our pattern for the next year and a half. My heart is so heavy. The tears keep rolling as I try to hold on to the last 24 hours I have with him. I fear going back to our empty home where I will be surrounded by memories of what was. I want him to do God’s calling, but it is so hard to say goodbye to my best friend for over a year. Please pray God heals my heart. I need encouragement and grace. Things seem so dark right now, but I know our Loving Father has a glorious plan for our marriage and my husband’s career. I ask for your prayers in this hour of loneliness.
Oh Caroline I am praying for you. Lord comfort Caroline during this time and allow her to enjoy and savor these last hours before her husband leaves. I pray that their communication would be strong though it will be limited. Surround Caroline with friends, family, and community to lift her up. And when she feels alone I pray that you would make Your presence known to her and that she would be aware that You are always there.
God is with you in this time. He is so much for you and your husband Caroline. He is ever present in this difficult time. His heart is heavy for you. I’m praying for you and your family!
Mark 5:19 “And He did not let him, but He said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.”
Hmm. I tried to google this but couldn’t find a definitive answer. How many people actually entered the good land then, who had been there from the start of leaving Egypt? Only Caleb and Joshua? Or are there a few more? I think it is worthwhile to take note that 1 million Israelites left Egypt, but how many made it to the promised land…
Only those men 20 years and older were counted each time. All those died except Caleb and Joshua. But that would have left all the women and children uncounted…these were the ones entering the promised land, with of course all those born in the wondering years as well. So probably about the same number that left also entered if you figure men being half the population!
This is crazy that this demon possession story came up in today’s reading. Last night I was with a group of women and one of their daughter is a missionary in Australia and was apart of casting out 7 demons out of a 7yr old the other day. She said each one had a different voice or sound unlike anything she’s heard. In the name of Jesus each one after a while left her because even the demons know IT IS FINISHED! Praise Him!
amen! all the blood and death and trying to be good enough have ceased, we don’t have enough good, blood, or deaths on our own to do what Jesus did for us. praise the Lord!
❤️
Remember how much Hod has done for you
❤️
The Lord has been merciful to us

❤️ Happy Easter! ❤️
Your faith has healed you! Imagine touching Jesus clothing and immediately healed… he could feel power leaving him. AMAZING!

❤️
That was a really good ending made me smile and think of all people speaking their truth about what TMH has done for them in their lives ❤️

Tell others what Jesus has done for you!

Praise God we don’t have to sacrifice like that anymore!

You made such a good point regarding the formerly possessed man!
Oops. Didn’t mean to post

Agreed. You will be blessed through your military family ffafamily
Family. They understand better than anyone.
You and your husband are in my prayers Caroline. And also that through this, you both will grow closer to Christ, loving Bd desiring Him more.

Something that has hit me more than once while reading Numbers is the abundance of sacrifices necessary to maintain life in the Presence of God.
On Holy Saturday, it gives me yet another reason to celebrate the words of our Lord, “It is finished.”
Yes, I was struck by the same thing Lydia.
amen! all the blood and death and trying to be good enough have ceased, we don’t have enough good, blood, or deaths on our own to do what Jesus did for us. praise the Lord!
How did they keep track of it all?!
HalleluYAH!!
Even as We mourn. This Gospel must be mentioned at all times.
