After completing your daily reading, come back to chat with fellow Bible readers about any reflections you have on the proverbs, introduction, or questions from today.

One of the overarching themes of the Bible is the astonishing love of God toward rebellious and sinful people. To truly know God—and, therefore, to truly walk in wisdom—we must not only know what God loves, but also what He hates. By understanding what is contrary to God’s love and way, we can more fully know what is actually wise.

Reflection Questions:

Based on these proverbs, what does God hate?

Why is it important for us to know what God hates?

Are there any areas of your life that look like Proverbs 6:16–19? Use this space to offer a prayer of repentance for those things, turning back to God’s wisdom and receiving His forgiveness.

  2. Skye Edwards says:

    amen!

  3. L N says:

I pray that He will lead me to turn to His wisdom and His guidance when it comes to the things that He hates. It is easy to get in situations where doing those things is the easy way out but like we learned in the previous passages, the easy way isn’t always the best way. I pray for repentance when in these situations. Amen

I couldn’t believe how much this chapter right now relates to what’s going on in America.

I read this today as it’s a tough day for America. I pray for sovereignty in the hurt and that those who are evil and wicked are brought to justice. The verse that stuck with me is how he uses the wicked for his purpose and that is something I hold tight too that everything, even when it hurts, is designed for a purpose. I pray that I feel repentance for any hatred that God may have against me.

  10. Deja High says:

    Amen❤️

  12. Elizabeth Dalton says:

I don’t think often enough about what God hates and more about my relationship daily with God. Somehow I’ve made it 2 separate things but it’s not. I know my heart is guilty of these things and I need to be praying daily to center my heart on what is good and repenting where I fall short

  13. Madison Black says:

These verses today really struck a cord in a sense that I know that I am guilty of having a proud heart sometimes. As I was reading I felt myself repenting and asking for forgiveness. I have a long road to rebuilding my relationship with god but I am so grateful for his forgiveness and love.

  14. Melissa Youssef says:

I always focus on what His commands and guidances are but rarely focus on what He hates. However, how can I fully understand the light (His ways) without knowing the dark (what He hates)? Proverbs 16 really hit me hard!

    1. Makenzie Griggs says:

      So true!!

    2. Lindsey Cronkright says:

Love this – how can we understand the light or appreciate and take full advantage of its offerings, without knowing what the dark is that he hates. Thanks for sharing!

  15. Hannelora Wald says:

Oof. The more I read, the more my flesh is like uh uh, noooo. It’s crazy, in my last reading, to today and last night’s teaching, there’s a lot working in my heart. Pieces I havnt connected yet, but I can feel it coming with the Lords wisdom and understanding

  16. Ruth Avierinos says:

He hates everything that hinders us from having a relationship with Him. That’s always been the most important thing to God. But He loves us too much to force us.

    1. Darla H says:

      So well said! Thank you!!

  17. Andrea P says:

    Amen❤️

  18. Debbie Hinson says:

My first study. I got a subscription for myself and my daughter who God broke her from the chains of addiction 6 months ago. I’ve been praying years. She was/is a Christian but evil kept trying to keep her from her life the Lord had for her.

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

Welcome Debbie! Praying this is the first of many Bible adventures for you and your daughter to share.

    2. Rhonda J. says:

Welcome Debbie and your daughter! What a Praise! So many of us are praying for our kids!

      1. Debbie Hinson says:

        Thank you Rhonda❤️

    1. Killer criminals

    2. So that we don’t do it ourselves

    3. I thought about what goes on in court, but couldn’t apply it to my own life

  20. Lauren G says:

It’s important to remember how abhorrent sin is to a Holy God. Its easy to read Proverbs 6: 16- 19 and say I don’ t shed innocent blood or do the obviously evil deeds mentioned there and in other places in the OT and yet I reminded of what Jesus spoke about in Matthew 5, He took well known laws at the time (the 10 commandments for example) and said “you have heard it said….but I say…”. While I have not murdered anyone, when we consider that “whoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be in danger of judgement”(Matthew 5:22) – I can certainly not claim to have never been angry at someone unfairly. The temptation to minimize “small” sins is real but ultimately all sin separates us from a Holy God.

Thankfully that’s not under the story!

  21. U.Cobb says:

Getting on a little late today but nonetheless, by Gods grace, I am here! The reading today was loaded and I found myself repenting as I was reading and journaling. Reflection Questions:
    1. Based on these proverbs, God hates a proud heart, a lying tongue/lips, one who sows discord among the brethren, a false witness who lies, feet that are swift to do evil, those who shed innocent blood. God also hates the sacrifices, thoughts, ways, and even the prayers of wicked people. A forward and perverse heart, God hates. He hates the prayers of those who don’t listen to his laws and instruction.
    2. It is very important to know what God hates so that we can evaluate our daily living by His holy standards. Are we measuring up? I found myself repenting as I was reading and taking in what is detestable to God because I don’t want my prayers to go unheard. That is another reason why we should know what God hates…..we don’t want our prayers to fall to the ground because of our wickedness. Thanks be to God of grace, mercy, and forgiveness that we can come to him and sincerely repent. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God says that if my people which are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from our wicked ways.. that He would hear us from Heaven, and will forgive us, and will heal our land! Praise be to God! He is here to helps us to repent and turn to Him. It is also important to know what God hates so that we can use them as prayer points in our secret time with Him. “ Oh God, please keep my heart from pride and help me to always be honest and truthful. We can also pray over our family and our kids. We can teach them about what God hates so they are not ignorant toward the ways of God. We can share what we have learned about God and what he hates with other believers who are hungry to know God more. The wise will listen and receive it!
    3. I’m sure that I have been guilty of a proud heart even if I may not have been aware of it. Pride is deceitful and can sneak up on you! As I was reading, I repented of all of what the Word says God hates because I am aware that I may not always know. If I have had or have pride in my heart Lord, please forgive me. Forgive me of ….I went through them all. Opportunities to repent and ask for forgiveness are both needful and a blessing in our walk with Him. I’m thankful for the reading today.

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Amen, thank you! Proud. I was proud today in the most gross way. Lord forgive me.

  22. Margaret W. says:

I am heartbroken right now because I got a text from Judy’s husband this morning saying that she was back in the hospital after the hysterectomy she had Friday, and she has had 2 more surgeries since Monday. I didn’t get any more details yet; he didn’t think we should talk until after the appointment I was getting ready to walk out the door for—so I’m pretty sure that the update I am waiting for will not be good. But the waiting is SO hard. Please continue to remember Judy and her family in your prayers, and I will update you when I know more. Bless you, sisters.

  23. Jennifer Anapol says:

I definitely feel like I needed to repent from having haughty eyes. I have been given so many amazing things in this life and sometimes i find my identity in that. Sometimes I will look down on those who don’t have as much as I do. I feel so terrible even admitting that, but I know that the Lord covers all my sin. ❤️

  24. Julianne Pictou says:

After reading what God hates- it just put those in the back of my mind to remember as I journey along with him at my side. As a Christian I am not perfect. But my Father is. As I walk and continue to please him, I want to focus on what pleases God- not do what he hates. And if I do. I can repent, restart and continue to journey alongside Him.

  25. Mindy Hencey says:

After reading today’s Proverbs it’s easy to see the reminder of the things God hates, whether they are generally spoken as evil or devious or spelled out explicitly like lying and envy. God provided first the 10 Commandments then the Law, yet time and time again His people turned away to everything that went against these truths. God showed his hatred, but he also showed his on going deep love. I like others found myself not only pinning areas that potentially exist no matter how big or small, but also repenting for these things. I think honestly the biggest one for me that is a struggle is envy. Envy of the unique friendship bonds those around me have and longing for relationships like theirs, knowing that I am guilty for pushing opportunities/invites away with excuses and fear of being accepted. Envy for others success or business with their business efforts, knowing that I myself am the sole roadblock in my success from lack of willingness to take risk. Envy of those whose families have such a connection of unity, knowing how segregated my own family has become over the years either from disagreements, distance, lack of communication, etc. I know deep down that I am blessed beyond measures with the family I am surrounded by, the friendships I have even when the miles seem so far between us, and the lessons/opportunities I have had in my own endeavors.

    1. Tami says:

Hi Mindy. I understand about envy and it can be the root of such unhappiness. Thank you for being so transparent!

  26. Mercy says:

When I first read through the Scriptures, a thought popped up, “does God love everyone?”. Thank you SRT for the strong message today. Clearly there is a list of what God hates. So does God love everyone you might ask. One answer, absolutely not. Psalm 5:5 — “You hate all evildoers.” Please beware so we don’t love what God hates. Has the culture pressured us to love everyone? Yes. Be cautious of its persuasiveness that draws on sentiment. Culture equates love to acceptance of any lifestyles. Stand firm in our conviction from the foundation of The Word. Culture wants us to adopt their viewpoint. God does not love everyone. God’s love contrasts what culture wants.
    1. Proverbs 6:16–19 lists things God hates: haughty eyes, lying tongues, hands that shed innocent blood. Notice it doesn’t just say He hates the sin, but also “a false witness” and “one who sows discord.” That means the person who identifies themselves with wickedness falls under God’s righteous anger.
    2. Prayer as an Abomination: This grabs my attention. “If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination” Proverbs 28:9. This is a striking verse that reveals some hidden secrets about prayer and hypocrisy. This talks about a person who is not just failing or struggling in weakness, but deliberately rejects His Law, refuses to listen to God’s Word, shuts it out, yet prays for blessings. Why does this matter? To put it sharply in an analogy, these are like gold digger prayers. A gold digger is interested in what a person can give (money, gifts, benefits, status, fame) without actually loving the person. The relationship is one-sided, selfish, and insincere. Once the benefits stop, the “love” disappears, it was never real. This truly breaks my heart.
    3. Prayers of repentance: Father, help us to sincerely and wholeheartedly seek You and Your will. Help us to never turn our ear away from Your Word. Forgive us and cleanse us from the wrong desires of a deceptive heart. Please remove the heart of stone, the one that is cold, hard, unresponsive, that resists Your Word, Your Spirit, Your Correction, Your Wisdom. Give us a new heart that delights in You and Your Word above all things, that we may learn the fear of the Lord, that we may yield to wisdom from above, that we may count our days. Write Your law upon our heart and change us from within. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

    1. Teresa Cooper Donley says:

      Beautiful prayer.

    2. Cee Gee says:

Amen to your prayer and thank you for including Ezekiel 36:26- one of my favorite verses! ❤

      Ezekiel 36:26-29a-
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness. NIV

    3. Tami says:

Hi Mindy. I understand about envy and it can be the root of such unhappiness. Thank you for being so transparent!

    4. Tami says:

This is so crazy! I also used Ezekiel for my prayer today. And then as I was out doing errands, I noticed something on a building I pass all the time. It said “I will give you a new heart.” I felt like God was responding to my prayer.

      1. Tami says:

Oops meant to be for Mercy

        1. Tami says:

I dont know what happened. All my replies are going to the wrong place!

      2. Cee Gee says:

      3. Mercy says:

Wow that verse on a building.

    5. U.Cobb says:

Proverbs 28:9 caught my attention as well! Even their prayers are an abomination!…. I too was thinking of a heart of hypocrisy but you went way deep! Thank you for sharing that! I love your analogy…. I didn’t look at it like that! Thank you so much!! Love your prayer!

    6. Rhonda J. says:

Good job Mercy, hard truth to say! But thank you for being bold! The majority are not believers, or just Christians with the title, but the gate is narrow and we must earnestly SEEK and be with God ALL in! Hold strong to the only truth, and hate what God hates.

  27. Paula Mourin says:

    ♥️

  28. Cee Gee says:

Simply put God hates anything that causes our selfishness to overrule His purpose and plan for our lives.
    .
It’s important for us to know what He hates so we can make the right choices in life and share that Truth with others. We can’t share what we don’t know.
    .

    Thankful for God’s marvelous GRACE!
    .
    .
The verses leading up to our focus verses in chapter Proverbs 6:
What are worthless and wicked people like?
    They are constant liars,
13 signaling their deceit with a wink of the eye,
a nudge of the foot, or the wiggle of fingers.
14 Their perverted hearts plot evil,
and they constantly stir up trouble.
15 But they will be destroyed suddenly,
broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing.

JOHN MACARTHUR notes (Proverbs 6: 16-19):
“These 7 detestable sins provide a profound glimpse into the sinfulness of man. These verses act as a summary of the previous warnings:
    1) haughty eyes (v. 13a, “winks”);
    2) lying tongue (v. 12b, “perverse mouth”);
    3) hands (v. 13c
    Proverbs 6:13 NLT
    signaling their deceit with
    a wink of the eye,
a nudge of the foot, or
    the wiggle of fingers.
    , “fingers”);
    4) heart (v. 14a);
    5) feet (v. 13b);
    6) false witness (v. 12b); and
    7) discord (v. 14c).”
    .
    .
    WARREN WIERSBE notes
“The wicked and their wickedness are mentioned at least one hundred times in Proverbs.”
    .
    .
    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤

    1. Rhonda J. says:

I love how you put it right there in the first sentence! Exactly what we need to remember.

      1. Cee Gee says:

  29. Nichole Sells says:

As a new Christian, I was thrilled to understand the things that are an abomination to the Lord. Knowledge helps me maintain my path to him and righteousness. Today’s reflection answers are:
    1) God hates violence, deviousness, haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, false witnesses who lie, and one who sows discord among brothers.
    2) Knowing what God hates is knowledge. I think this ties back to yesterday’s lesson. Knowledge allows us to walk in wisdom, and to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, and to avoid the things that displease him.
    3) I would say at this moment, no there aren’t. I am trying to gain as much knowledge as I can, so that I avoid such things. With that being said, I would unfortunately that some of these behaviors I am guilty of in my past.
    Prayer of Repentance
    Dear Lord,
I am so very sorry for all the things that I have done in my past, living a life that was offensive, and displeasing to you. I am very grateful that you never gave up on me. You had faith in me when I did not have faith in myself. Lord, I am diligently trying to educate myself on all things that please, and displease you. I will do my level best, but I know I will fall short. Please forgive me when I falter. You know my thoughts and my heart Lord.
In Jesus Name I pray and I thank you Lord,
    Anen

    1. Cee Gee says:

I love your prayer, NICHOLE, and say one very similar in my prayer at end of day. I like to begin each day thanking Him for His mercies that are new every day (Lamentations 3:22-24 –
“22 Because of the Lord’s faithful love
      we do not perish,
      for his mercies never end.
      23 They are new every morning;
      great is your faithfulness!
24 I say, “The Lord is my portion,
therefore I will put my hope in him.”

    2. Rhonda J says:

Yes amen Nichole! The more you walk with God the more your heart breaks for our disobedience!! Praise the Lord we are forgiven as far as the east to the west and never brought up again!! Hallelujah! Forgive us Lord! I was always good in my eyes and did the comparison game…then, it breaks us/you when you realize He died for me/you!

    3. Mercy says:

      Amen sister ♥️ Powerful reflections!

  30. Lynne from Alabama says:

Linda in NC— so glad to see your update yesterday! I have been concerned that we haven’t heard from you lately. Praying for you and Gene every day. Praying that God will strengthen you and give you healing of your back issues. ❤️

  31. Adrianne says:

Based on these proverbs, what does God hate?
Liars, the wicked and their plans, arrogance, deviousness.

Why is it important for us to know what God hates?
So that we can avoid doing the things He hates, and concentrate on doing good things that better ourselves and connect us more to Him

Are there any areas of your life that look like Proverbs 6:16–19? Use this space to offer a prayer of repentance for those things, turning back to God’s wisdom and receiving His forgiveness.
I would hope that I don’t have these types of behaviors, but I’m not innocent of being a sassy grump. I pray that the Lord and Jesus forgive me of any behaviors that don’t serve Them, my family, my community, or me. That the Lord instills in me goodness and love. That They continue to teach me the ways of love and truth. Amen!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

A “sassy grump!” I never heard that one before, but I think maybe I have been one at times! (laughing face)

  32. Adrienne says:

Just a quick comment before I come back later to read my sisters’ comments. (There are already over 50!)
    .
We need to know what He thinks is wicked, so we can turn away from it.
    .
Do I have blameless conduct? Um… No!
    .
Do I pursue righteousness? Um… not always!
    .
Do I pray as a delight to Him? Um… not like I should!
    .
Good thing He loves me anyways!

    1. Tami says:

      Love this Adrienne! Me either!

      1. Adrienne says:

        ❤️

  33. Mari V says:

What stuck out to me this morning on what God hates is “haughty eyes” but when I looked up the definition (facial expression, specifically the eyes, that conveys arrogance, pride, or disdain towards others). I may not have haughty eyes, BUT I sure can give a “mean” look sometimes (even when I try not to) especially when I feel some don’t pull their weight, putting the extra load on others. Taking a DEEP breathe here! Like I read below in the comments and something I refer to for myself, “stay in your lane” So I say to myself, “stay in your lane, Mari”

    1. Mercy says:

“eyes that conveys arrogance, pride, or disdain towards others”. Thank you.

  34. Cheryl Blow says:

This verse came to mind after reading what God hates.

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
    https://bible.com/bible/111/1co.10.12.NIV

We can never assume we are so perfect or holy that we are not able to fall and do any of the things God hates! Lord help me to worry about the beam in my eye more than the speck in my brother’s (or husband’s, children’s, or others!)

Praying for God to search my heart and show me any wicked way within me!

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬
    https://bible.com/bible/111/psa.139.23-24.NIV

Praying for all! Thank you for the prayer lists!
Had some blood work. My white blood count was low and there were some other abnormalities too. Pray that when I see the Dr I will get answers.

    1. Sandi says:

      Praying for answers

    2. Teresa Cooper Donley says:

I pray you will get answers, and fell better.

    3. U.Cobb says:

Oh my goodness… your post almost brought me to tears!! I love these verses and I often pray them in my prayer time! Yes ma’am… so true we don’t always know or are aware of what we may be guilty of! I love the scriptures you provided… GREAT PRAYER POINTS! And my sister God got you! I prayed immediately after reading your entire post. The blood of Jesus NEVER loses its power! It reaches to the lowest valley and moves to the highest mountain! I plead the blood over your entire body! That God would reveal what needs to be revealed and heal you completely!! Jesus is our HEALER! He is our Deliverer! He is our way maker!! Thank you for your post!

    4. Rhonda J. says:

oof. Whoa. That’s a good one to remember. I pray I have a firm foundation and my roots are deep by the living water!! Lord, help me where I fall short, and never get prideful in my walk with you or in comparison to others.

  35. Ashley M. says:

These verses remind us that God is not indifferent toward sin. His hatred is not like human anger that flares up and fades away; it is a holy rejection of all that destroys life, relationships, and His design for His people.

It is important for us to know what God hates because it teaches us about His heart. God doesn’t hate to restrict us—He hates what will harm us and those around us. By paying attention to what He rejects, we can better understand what He values: humility instead of pride, truth instead of lies, peace instead of conflict, and righteousness instead of wickedness.

When we align our lives with God’s wisdom, we find freedom and joy in walking His way. When we slip into the things He hates, He graciously calls us back—not to condemn us, but to forgive and restore us through Christ.

    1. Teresa Cooper Donley says:

I love how you show that knowing what God hates calls us to what God loves. Thank you for sharing these thoughts.

  36. Wendy B says:

Welcome to the many new names and thank you for sharing.

The things God hates….lying, deceit, haughty eyes, wickedness, evil, trouble makers, perverse ways, murderers. Its a long heavy list. We need to know these things so as to know the heart of God and to run away. To turn from these and to seek to live a life that will honor and please him; to pursue righteousness, holiness and faithfulness unto the Lord.
It is a sobering, convicting reality to look inward and see that I am guilty of some of these. My human, sinful nature had many a time let these in. Father forgive me. Thank you Lord for your undeserved grace, mercy and forgiveness. For your sacrifice that saved a wretch like me. As I continue to seek you, Lord may your grace find me, your Truth be what guides my heart and leads and guides me in your ways of wisdom, knowledge, hope and righteousness. I praise you Lord for your unfailing love. Amen

  37. Brenda P says:

I would find a word study on “wicked “ interesting

    1. B says:

I had done an internet search for the definition of wicked before I started reading comments. The answer was simply “morally wrong or evil”. Bible Hub has a commentary about Old and New Testament contexts.

  38. Blessed Fowler says:

Honestly, as the read all the things that God hates, I find myself repenting for each one. In the 46 years of my life knowing or unknowingly I have sinned against the things that God hates. I am declaring Psalm 51 over me this am. Help me Jesus

    1. Mercy says:

I feel the same way. It is awakening when we study the Bible point by point, we recognize sin in us. Dangerous.

  39. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

    What does God hate?
    1) arrogant eyes – a feeling of pride and looking down on others.
    2) a lying tongue (big lies and little white ones too!)
3)hands that shed innocent blood – cold blooded murderers, BUT also – anyone who is unreasonably angry with someone without offering forgiveness.
4)a heart that devises wicked schemes (such as a terrorist)
5)feet that are quick to rush into evil – and display no resistance whatsoever (such as Eve in the garden)
6)a false witness – this kind of lying could put a person in jail, or lead one to being stoned to death.
7)a person who stirs up conflict among the brethren. – one who purposely causes disruption to peace in the body of Christ.
    .
Any of these things that God hates could be me. I pray that it is not, and confess to God any of them that I have committed. As we learn of what God hates, and continue to grow in Him we will grow in His knowledge and wisdom.
    .
Praise God as Tina said, for His mercy, grace and forgiveness!

I see so many new names here – what a blessing, welcome to all the new She’s!!

@Linda in NC – praying for you my dear sister as you lovingly care for Gene. May God give you daily strength. And praise God that your pain has decreased!!

    Happy Wednesday She’s! ❤️

  40. Allison Myrick says:

So thankful that we have a God who loves and forgive us. That we can confess our sins and become right with Him again. Though I have (and continue to) sinned against my Holy Father, He has washed me clean.

Today is a new day, filled with His mercy and grace. Repentance is so important, but let’s remember that He loved us in that “While we were still sinners

  41. Tami says:

GM ladies. I am still stuck on the fear of the Lord from yesterday – so many of your comments helped me! I am not seeing it as less like fear and more like complete surrender to God and his plans/purpose for our lives. To me this is doing what he loves, and not doing what he hates. This takes some intentionality because often I go about my day without a thought to him, worrying, scheming, planning, trying to control things, judging, gossiping, standing in resentment and unforgiveness, etc… Lord create in me a clean heart and replace this heart of stone with one of flesh. Help me to hand YOU my plans and to trust that Your ways are higher than my ways. Forgive me when I do the things you hate Lord. Amen

    1. Rhonda J. says:

The more you spend time with the Lord the more you change to align with him! That is the process of sanctification. It is a wanting Spirit though, we have to make time to be with him to actually develop the relationship. It is discipline, not works and checklists though. The more we read the Bible the more the Spirit works in us! :) Thanks for you honesty. We are all in different seasons as well, and move at different paces. I always pray he is the center of my day and week.

      1. Victoria L says:

        ❤️

    2. Wendy B says:

    3. Mercy says:

Your prayer matches mine Tami :)) I love it when this happens ^.~ His Spirit helps us to pray so similarly.

      1. Tami says:

Mercy, I commented to you above but not on your post! lol! I was out doing errands to day and passed a building I have passed numerous times. Today I noticed a sign that read “I will give you a new heart”! Wow! God speaks!. At first I thought it was a heart clinic or something, but then I saw Ezekiel and realized it was a store front church.

    4. Teresa Cooper Donley says:

I love your prayer. Yes, Lord, as the psalmist says, Create in me a new heart.

  42. Rhonda J. says:

    GM She’s!
Call me crazy but I like to see and know what God hates put clearly and for our knowledge! Just like a good dad, it is explained and given to us so there’s no guessing. And especially living in a society that lets every person make their own truths, (which is fine), but not to be put upon us, because we know God’s truth. What he wants for his people, that after all he created. You can’t function in a home that you continue to do things your parents hate without correction or there is continual discourse. Of course we are all born separated from God, but once we make the choice to follow Jesus, we still need to know what God hates. For me it keeps me on the righteous path!! I don’t want to dishonor my Lord, my Creator. He loves us too much not to give us guidelines, but forgiveness as well.
Also, that he will not hear the prayers of those that turn from hearing the word. OOF. This is one of those that many get wrong…that we tell everyone God hears your prayers. He does hear, but he will not recognize or choose to listen to prayers of people outside his family. Those prayers are an abomination. Something to ponder.

    1. Mercy says:

Wow- same thought, prayer of abomination!

    2. Cee Gee says:

❤ A pastor many years ago relayed the story of a woman in his church who obviously wasn’t honoring God with her choices. She wondered why He didn’t seem to hear/respond to her prayers. The pastor basically explained this truth. Thanks for jostling that from my memory bank!

    3. A Walton says:

Yes, he tells us clearly what is good and evil! Thank you, Father!

  43. Bernadette Power says:

  44. KellyD says:

To be honest, I had to look up the definition of “perverse”, because this word is rarely used outside of the context of “pervert” and, well, that’s an easy thing to hate.
    .
Perverse: showing a deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable often in spite of the consequences.
    .
Perverse in the Biblical context: a deliberate and persistent turning away from what is right, good, or God’s will. It signifies a willful deviation from righteousness, often associated with a hardened heart, deceit, and a rejection of truth. It’s more than just a mistake; it’s a conscious choice to go against what is considered morally correct or divinely ordained.
    .
(Gasp) Not so easy to hate anymore as those definitions could describe me on many occasions.

    1. April L. says:

Thank you for looking up and describing what perverse means because I like you think of pervert when I hear or read anything related to that word.

    2. DW says:

Thank you for that definition of perverse. So helpful.

    3. Caroline Bridges says:

This is me with Detestable – hateful or simulating disgust
I tried to put it in context with the scriptures

  45. Karen Swanson says:

The phrase “the Way of the Wicked” really popped for me. I did a bit of searching to find that …..according to the Bible, “The Way of the Wicked is a lifestyle characterized by sin, Rebellion against God, and a disregard for his Commandments.” Hope that’s helpful for someone

  46. LaRae Taylor says:

  47. Aimee D-R says:

So thankful for Your enduring Grace and Mercy Father God. In Jesus name, Amen

  48. Searching says:

In my notes, I listed the things God hates as I read today’s Scriptures. I’m thankful that nothing on the list surprised me, saddened that I was guilty of many, and continue to be guilty of some. Lord, please guide me that “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8
    .
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.
    .
MERCY ❤️ yesterday’s comment, honor/dishonor, “the Lord is all eyes” and also all ears. Good reminder on children being all eyes (and all ears), I’ve been challenged more than once and had to backtrack and apologize to littles :/

Praying for your family member and the teens.

  49. Sammi Elmore says:

He hates the arrogant, the ones who turn their ear away from God. If our words are pure and our hearts are true, God knows we are repentful of our sins.

  50. MARTHA HIX says:

Hi sweet She’s… I would like to ask for your prayers for peace and comfort for my family. Today is the 4th anniversary of my husband passing away, one week ago was his birthday, and our 50th anniversary was in July… tender heart memories!
My 2 adult children and I will not be physically together, but we will communicate and share our thankfulness and love for him, his life and legacy, and our gratitude for each other. ❤️

    1. Searching says:

Dear Martha ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thankful for these memories, praying they will continue to bring peace and comfort, some smiles and even a few laughs as you all remember your time with him. Makes me think of my dad, who had some favorite sayings that brought laughs then and now.

    2. Kelly (NEO) says:

      ❤️❤️❤️

    3. Rhonda J. says:

I love that Martha of sharing his memories with your children. Every time I see your name I think of your sudden loss.
It was hard when my mom died because we never got to sit with my dad and talk about her and all the good memories. The first holidays were too soon and painful, then by the next year he was remarried so everyone felt uncomfortable to talk about my madre. He keeps his memories tucked away, but every once in a while he will throw out a sentence about “her.”

    4. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Dear Martha, my heart aches with yours. May God give comfort and peace as you and your family lovingly remember your dear husband who was so suddenly taken away. Hugs and prayers. ❤️

    5. Sandi says:

I will be praying for you as you navigate through this day

    6. Jane K says:

Martha, praying for peace and comfort for you and your family. I pray it will be a day of sweet memories of him for you and your children.

    10. Linda J says:

Praying for you and your family as you remember and celebrate the one you love.

      Praying for you today!❤️

    12. Lynne from Alabama says:

Precious Martha, I can’t believe it has been four years. It seems like no time at all. Praying for you, sweet sister, as you reflect on your memories of your husband. ❤️

      1. Adrienne says:

I can’t believe it has been four years, either. Much love and many prayers, my sister, Martha. ❤️

    13. Cee Gee says:

Joining our sisters in prayer for you this anniversary day. I am sure these 4 years felt like a lifetime of separation. Thankful you and your kids openly share the good memories Praying the beautiful memories override the heaviness of your loss. Thank you for trusting us with your heart need! ❤

    14. Teresa Cooper Donley says:

Martha, I’m praying for you and your kids on this anniversary. I pray the good memories bring peace and comfort to all of you, today and always.

  51. Sandi says:

God hates sin;any sin is an abomination. Walk worthy of the LORD

    1. Donna K Parks says:

Yes, He hates the sin, not the sinner!

  52. Kelly (NEO) says:

What does God hate? As A WALTON said, “When we humans try to usurp His place.”

Why is it important for us to know what God hates?
If we want to walk in step with Jesus we need to know the direction He is going. Continuing to do the things that God hates is not walking with Jesus, but away from Him.
    .

Proverbs 6:17 “haughty eyes, a lying tongue”

I see these two intricately connected. When I let pride rise up, my flesh will devise a way to speak “facts” presented in a way that leave a false impression in my favor.
    .
My heart is truly deceitful. Lord, help be to humbly speak truth that isn’t manipulating. May I hold fast to Your truth and not ignore Your ways so that my prayers will be heard (Prov. 28:9).
    .
LINDA IN NC – thanks for the update on your back and about Gene. Continuing to pray for you both.

    1. Searching says:

      ❤️ amen

  53. Sally B. says:

Not only to correct my ways (and goodness, like Tina I have many to ask forgiveness for), but it feels like the culture has not concept that God might actually hate certain behaviors. Oh that we might be able to, with grace, speak Truth to a world that has lost the fear and reverence for God!

  54. Helen says:

As I read these today, my first thought was to think of something like others (actually one in particular!) to whom I attribute some of these behaviours/attitudes. How easy it is to see the speck in their eye rather than examine the log in mine! That phrase “stay in your lane” comes to mind – figure myself out and leave them to God.

Thankful today for a kind and loving Father who is safe, loving, forgiving and always calling me, correcting me and drawing me to Him.

I often read your comments, but rarely comment. Grateful for all your wisdom and insights! ♥️

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

      So true, Helen!
      Thanks for joining the conversation.

    2. Searching says:

      ❤️

    3. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Helen, thank you for the reminder to see the “log” in our own eye before addressing the “speck” in someone else’s.

    4. B says:

The “log” and “speck” also came to my mind today.

    5. Adrienne says:

      “Stay in your lane”, indeed!

  55. Tina says:

    OMG.
I looked up the word abomination..
An abomination: a thing that causes disgusting or hate.. loathing..
    .
This is scary stuff, as i would/can imagine I let God down… EVERYDAY!
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
With each disgusting, hating and loathing thing i do.. there is an option to change my ways.. to walk in His ways..
There is grace in that, even favour, for i know it’s not all over when I follow His gracious words.
    .
For the thought of violence against another whether they have hurt me or not, I can choose His ways and be upright in His confidence.
    .
For my haught eyes, my lying tongue, for the horrible plans, even if only in my head, for the rush to do wrong, knowingly, or the lies told on someone else’s behalf, or talk about others in a negative way so as to bring about upset.. these are all things that God can rectify..
    .
For the crooked heart, there is hope to walk blameless and be a delight to Him.
    .
The wicked ways, often subtle in a remark, are able loathing of the LORDS, but through prayer and pursuit of Him and righteousness we could be acceptable to Father God.
    .
Oh those thoughts that come that are not Godly, there is hope for pure gracious words, by His grace.
    .
Arrogance of heart, a loathing of Our God, to change is to make the LORD smile.
    .
This one got me, not hearing the law/Word, showing up but not taking in the Word on a Sunday say, my prayers are a disgust to the Lord.. oosh, !
    .
Thankful for the Lord s grace, mercy and forgiveness and His for always chasing us/me, correcting us/me so we can be the people He created us to be in His image..
    .
There is much work to be done to sharpen my being, but with His guidance, I am prayerful the lord will look on me with favour, LORD in your mercy, hear my prayer..
    .
    AMEN.
    .
Happy Wednesday peeps always in love and wrapped in prayers ❤️

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

  56. A Walton says:

What does God hate? When we humans try to usurp his place. Our pride and selfishness cause so much trouble.

It is important for us to know what God hates so we can be aware of our sins. Reading through, it was easy for me to see faults in other people, but I tried to think of how I do these things as well and need to continue to pursue righteousness.

I would appreciate prayer for my six year old. He struggles with defiance, violence, and lying. I know he is only six, but my husband and I are trying to guide him and so far God’s truths are falling on deaf ears. We usually have problems with him every day, sometimes multiple times a day. He causes trouble with his brothers and sisters too. He definitely keeps me humble as a parent and helps me to continue to pray. Anyway, I would appreciate prayers for him. He really can be a great guy, but there are so many struggles. Thank you.

    1. Tina says:

      Praying. A. Walton.. that’s a tough one..
      BUT GOD..
      Much love covered in prayers..♥️

    2. Sandi says:

Proverbs 6:16-19 basically God hates sin and we need to be mindful of our walk with God.

    3. Sandi says:

I will pray that God gets ahold of his heart ❤️

      1. Sandi says:

This 1st comment was supposed to be in general commonts

    4. Brenda W says:

I will be praying A Walton. I have a grandson who will be 6 in March who sounds like your precious one. Praying God will turn their hearts to Him.

    5. Danielle B says:

Oh A Walton what a great reminder to be aware of what God hates, so my awareness of my own sin is there. Too often it is easily glossed over. So in that list I have a tendency towards pride.

    6. Searching says:

Praying, A WALTON, for your little one’s heart and mind ❤️

    7. Tami says:

Praying for your son. He is lucky to have parents that are following the Lord and HIS wisdom. My nephew sounds a lot like your son but his parents get their wisdom from instagram. Oof!

    8. Sharon Jersey Girl says:

Praying for your son, and wisdom for you and your husband as you strife to correct, discipline and teach him. ❤️

    9. Cheryl Blow says:

      Praying for your little guy!

    10. GramsieSue says:

Praying for you to have the wisdom you need to guide your son to make better choices.

    11. Teresa Cooper Donley says:

I pray for your son, for God to speak now to his young heart, and for God to guide you and your husband as you guide his young heart and life. May God bring peace to you all.
