Well, we made it! We are hot and exhausted and sticky and a little lot outside of our comfort zones and having an absolute blast!

I am writing from the funniest little Guatemalan hotel room (where we have covered the bathroom sink to remind us NOT to brush our teeth with tap water) to the sounds of rain beating on the metal roof above us. It’s almost deafening and we kind of love it.

Unreal.

And such a cool privilege.

A spider just started making his way down from the ceiling over my bed and Ryan spotted intercepted him before I could get too gibbled.

Still. A huge privilege. ;)

We arrived in Guatemala City around 1:30 this afternoon and drove 6 hours north through the mountains to Cabon in Alta Verapaz. The scenery was beautiful and we saw things that I just can’t seem to wrap my mind around.

Roads where there shouldn’t be roads.
Corn growing where corn shouldn’t grow.
Whole pieces of road sunken off the side of a cliff that you absolutely must either drive around or fall to your death.
Motorcycles and people and animals and shops and views so big they were impossible for our eyes to take them in.

I want to remember it all.

Tomorrow we get up bright and early and head to a nearby village to learn about the work Food for the Hungry is doing there. Tomorrow night we’ll all sleep together at the school in the village, and Wednesday morning we’ll get to meet the little girl we sponsor – her name is Olga and the kids packed up a fun little goodie bag for her!

I can’t wait to live it!

And I am excited to come back and tell y’all all about it again tomorrow night!

Have a restful night, friends.
So blessed that He is here with us.
And looking ahead to all that He has for us to see.

xoxo,
Raechel

After reading about your arrival to Guatemala I was truly touched and inspired. It’s a true Blessing to see people taking time out of their own lives to help others. While reading, I thought about how I would love to be in a position to help others in that way, but was quickly reminded that I am. Our Father wants us to Bless where we are first, as He prepares us for more. I was reminded that although it’s not a mission trip to Guatemala, it is still a mission wherever you are. I thank you shereadstruth for inspiring us to Bless others in any way we can!
