weekly truth | week 7

Open Your Bible

2 Corinthians 12:9

Hey gals!  We are enjoying reading God’s word with you! This Prayer reading plan is challenging each one of us daily, and from the discussion happening each day?  We know God is moving in y’all’s lives toO!  We wanted to let you know we are talking and praying much about this site and what God wants from it.  You may see some changes here in the future, and you may even see less quantity and hopefully, more quality. Consider it doing a little pruning in hopes of the most fruit possible. In the midst of all this – we want you to know what our purpose is, what our goal is. We are asking the lord to make it crystal clear for us about where we are supposed to head and here is where we are at:

We believe all scripture is God-breathed, relevant, living and active (2 Tim 3:16, Hebrews 4:12). We desire to see women changed (2 Corinthians 5:17) by encouraging a community based on faithfully reading the Bible daily (Romans 15:4), hiding God’s Word in their hearts (Psalm 119:11), and being doers of the word (James 1:2).

Essentially – We’re being changed by reading the word, hiding it in our hearts and doing what it says.  This time? We’re doing it together.

[Thank you @KellisKrafts for the image}

And the weekly truth could not be more perfect – we are weak.  We are flawed.  But His power is perfect.   It comes to us from 2 Corinthians 12:9 [ESV].

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Remember to leave a comment or tweet about a lock screen or desktop background you create, so we can help one another memorize His truth this week!

Remember we’re doing it together!

It is super late, but here is the lock screen I created: http://www.mommy-miracles.com/2012/07/second-cori

    1. When I’ve clicked on about 3 I the lock screen offerings, an error message comes up that says the page no longer exists? Hit back, comment button, scroll back down, click another link, same 404 error. Anyone else?
    2. A good “study bible” will help the analytic person read without questions frustratin the effort. I chose the NIV Study Bible for a long time. The Life Pplicarion Study Bible is also liked by many. I liked the concordance better in the first.
    3. I like the question posed about the persistent woman. “when the son of man returns on the earth, will he find such persistent faith?”. She didn’t know how he’d answer, but she knew she had the right to a hearing. Through Christ, so do we!

a few days late, but I made another lockscreen! :)

  4. Amanda says:

I've been learning over the past few months that admitting weakness isn't a weakness – it's a sign of strength. Only when I admit to God where I am weak can he move there fully.

  5. Thank you for the reminder!

  6. 2 Corinthians 12:9 will always been a staple in my life I think, something unchanging to cling to no matter what goes on inside me (doubt, fear, uncertainty) or around me (loss, heartache, distraction).

This is actually a desktop background that I made a few years ago that has this week's verse on it. Methinks I'll make an actual lock screen later in the week… http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm201/TeranelD

And I did actually make a lock screen when I said I would! Here it is: http://i47.tinypic.com/2pso8b7.jpg
Just as a head's up, it's 220×220 so that it fits on the screen on my old school phone.

  9. One of my favorite verses!! So glad it is this week's weekly truth!! I want to speak this over my life!

Found this quote the other day, then read today's devo…

"There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say, 'watch me'."
"Each time He said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me."

This has had such an impact on the way I think lately. I am starting back to school next month, after 6 years. As well as trying for baby #2, with a toddler running around. I work full time as well…but God's grace is all I need. He will take care of my family and He will see us through.

  13. Samantha says:

I've been leaning on this particular verse for quite a few weeks now. I got a bookmark in the post with it printed on it and I'm forever reminded of His power every time I open my book.
It's really meaningful to the situation I'm currently in!

  14. Nicki says:

Wow! I have been hearing this verse a lot lately! Just heard charles Stanley's daily radio message, and it was about this very thing. think god is trying to tell me something. This is re: the weekly truth. Dealing with laryngitis for 5 months and some pain that I am going to the doctor for both on thursday. wow! this is awesome!

  15. Charlotte says:

    Something I just journaled –

God’s power is made perfect in my weaknesses. By me going to the Father with my weaknesses His power is made perfect. I am to go to Him with everything! What are my weaknesses today and how does His power reflect in them?

  16. Anon says:

It's interesting that these scriptures were highlighted, I've been dealing with a bit of jealousy and envy towards a dear friend who just had her first baby, something I've longed for but due to health circumstanced am not able to at the moment. I had to pray for a good while yesterday asking the Lord to remove all feelings of jealousy and envy of my good friend and just focus on the wonderful things that I'm working on that are before me. After I sincerely prayed I felt God begin to lift those feelings, today I feel so much better. I also realized that while it's a joyous time in her life, I'll be the one getting a sound night's sleep while she will not for a good long while. I am so thankful for God's love, presence in my life and his desire to answer my prayer and lift me out of my funky feeling.

  17. Yevette says:

As I the weekly truth I am reminded of my journey in returning to school. In order to complete my degree I must face my fears and lack of confidence. His grace is sufficient.

  18. Shirlee says:

I’ve had trouble the last 2 weeks being able to see the lock screen from my iPhone for the weekly truth. I see the scripture just don’t a “picture” that can be saved. Am I the only one having this issue?

    1. Mariel says:

The last 2 weeks they have been asking for anyone to design their own and share them here in the comments or on Twitter/Instagram. I just made one, and there are a couple other commenters with links to their designs as well!

  19. kristen says:

I love the power in this. And the complete and utter peace that comes with His grace. We all need him…and doing this devotion is such a reminder. So, thank you! Prayers please for my upcoming move in a few months from richmond to nyc – – that God will work out all the details and the credit will all be His along the way….

    In Him,
    Kristen

  22. tolivelovely says:

*sigh* This verse is so perfect for me today. I'm just feeling really weak in my own abilities and not looking forward to the tasks at hand right now. What a comfort to know I don't have to do it all on my own power. Now, if I can just remember it all day long. ;)

  23. Trina says:

I am an analyzer. This is very complicating when I do not have the ability to ask questions to come to an answer I feel has satisfied my questioning. Reading the bible is a prime example of when I have many questions and little answers. So, today I come to you ladies hoping that you will help me find some peace. Not to long ago we read about the parable of the man who needed bread for his unexpected neighbor, and today the widow who asked the judge for justice. Both of the reasons they were given what they asked for was because they had annoyed the person, not because of grace or love or mercy. So then I question what is it I am doing, annoying the Lord to get what I want, or is it because we are his chosen people and he is showing us grace, love, or mercy.

    1. Brittney says:

I think in the example we read today, that Jesus was making this example. If a judge who shows no compassion or caring will grant your requests, how much more will a loving, faithful, merciful Father grant them? I don't think it is about annoying God to the point of granting our wishes. I think it is about training ourselves to go to him persistently in prayer, because at the end of the day, He is most just, kind, loving, and merciful than anyone else can be. And just because we are persistent in our prayers doesn't mean He answers them the way we want. When my grandpa was dying, I had many specific prayers (for healing, for me to be able to be there at the end). Prayers I prayed frequently and with much pleading. However, neither of those things happened. But I know that the Lord answered those prayers in his own way and He works everything for good, so even if I didn't "get what I wanted" I did get an answered prayer. His answer just wasn't what I had in mind. But I am so thankful that He is God and not me…because His answers are so much better than mine would have been.

I'm over at Razorbackbritt.blogspot.com if you want to talk! :)

    2. Nancy says:

      Trinia;
The verse that comes to my mind for you is out of Deuteronomy 29:29. There are some secrets that God has chosen to not reveal to us. We look for many answers to those mysteries, only to question more! He has chosen to not reveal some things, because we wouldn't understand even if we tried. Ecclesiastes 3:11. Some mysteries are just unnecessary for us to know. God is a big God and we cannot or don't have the capacity to know all He does. Through His word , we know enough about Him to be saved by faith and to serve Him.

    3. rachelheather says:

I agree with Brittney. God is so much greater than the neighbor or the judge or the earthly father who gives gifts to his children; therefore, His gifts are so much greater as well. He is not annoyed by our persistence; He loves that we are coming to Him with our questions and concerns and needs. He WANTS to hear from us.

      1. Raechel says:

Yes! He is calling us to persistence in prayer – asking, seeking, knocking… storming the gates of Heaven for His glory. In persistence, sometimes we get what we're asking, sometimes we get a change of heart – sometimes both.

Don't forget what verse 1 of chapter 18 says: "And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart". I think that's your answer!!
