Weekly Truth

Open Your Bible

Matthew 5:3–6

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

This week we will memorize Matthew 5:3–6, the first four beatitudes that we’ve studied this week. Try to fill in the blanks from memory on a separate sheet of paper or journal, and go back to Day 1’s Scripture reading if you need a refresher.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the humble,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.”
—Matthew 5:3–6

If I could circle the word BLESSED on each line.. I would!
    .
The first line says..BLESSED, if you are poor in spirit, down, sad, miserable, or spiritless..
The next line says for the kingdom of God is (already) theirs..
    .
    The third line says..
BLESSED (already) are those who mourn..
For (it is written, it will happen) they will be comforted..
    .
Line five says..BLESSED are the humble, those who walk in Jesus’s footsteps, live in His ways, and follow Him..
For they shall, indeed, inherit the earth..
    .
We are BLESSED and encouraged to hunger and thirst for righteousness in line seven..
For we shall be filled to overflowing with His goodness, His grace, His love, His presence.. food for the soul..
    .
You see, I think the blessing is already ours, in all circumstances.. be it sorrow, we are BLESSED, be it
being humble, or hungry and thirst for Him, the BLESSINGS are ours, already, I think, allocated, we just need to follow, believe, trust and for sure Hope..
    .
    It is well..
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
    AMEN.
    .
HAPPY SUNDAY, covered as always in love, hugs and prayers..♥️

THIS morning, I took time to write these beautiful verses down and go through them several times before coming here. Sometimes (most times) I feel there is no excuse for not memorizing scripture more (doesn’t come easy for me), BUT I must make more assertive effort as we all know when we “hide God’s WORD in our hearts,” NO ONE can take it (or snatch it) from us. THANK YOU again for your continued comments and encouragement regarding the results of my divorce hearing. I’m taking-deep-breaths and SO thankful MY JESUS is with me. I have a great sense of relief! On a funny note, but true to me, “I am not doing this again.” “Marriage and I did not get along” Though I know it’s a beautiful gift from our God and I’m SO thankful a lot of you sweeties have a wonderful marriage, I am not angry with my God. I remind myself, we live in a fallen world, full of fallen/sinful people (me) and the only perfect One to walk this earth was OUR JESUS! AND my JESUS has never let me down. NEVER! Not even during those very dark days, He never let me down. I got to share this with my pastor and one our leaders yesterday during a meeting yesterday. I’m SO thankful that through now my adult children, led me to this BEAUTIFUL church! Happy Sunday beauties! Oh…please pray as I’ve been a little under the weather and will be staying home to sleep and rest. I’m feeling compelled to say this before I sign out. For those reading this for the first time, please know I was in an verbally and emotionally abusive marriage, and sometimes physical, for over 21 years. I did not taking this decision lightly. I have been separated for almost 9 years with a restraining order. OUR Jesus protected my children and I. I’m so thankful out of this very unpleasant situation, my God blessed me with my son and daughter who are the loves of my life on this earth and we are very close!

    1. Jane K says:

Thank you, Mari V for sharing part of your story. I will continue to pray and to ask for renewed health. I’m working on memorizing today too. It only gets harder with age, but I love repenting my memory verses when I feel under attack.

    2. Wendy B says:

Thank you for your on-going testimony and faifthful praise to the Lord for His hand in your life Mari. You have been a great encouragement and blesing❤️

    3. Cee Gee says:

You are an inspiration, Mari; you didn’t shy away from doing the hard, necessary thing. You trusted God to guide you through. ❤

      1. Tina says:

        Amen…♥️

    4. Teresa Cooper says:

Mari, I’m thankful all the legal stuff is over and you have the divorce finally behind you. I pray God blesses you with peace as you walk forward.

I know exactly what you mean about memorization being difficult for you. I have the same problem. I have found that when I’m in a situation and need to call on a verse, The Holy Spirit always provides it. I hardly ever know the chapter and verse. But knowing what God is saying to me. or wants me to share, is so important, and I am blessed.

  8. Marie S says:

today at church service, be a blessing. take time to step in and serve (even though it’s not your week to serve. be the boost they need ti not feel overwhelmed. we are His hands and feet.

  9. Wendy B says:

Thank you Lord that we are blessed because of you – your forgiveness, your provision, your comfort. No matter what comes, our hope is in you.❤️

I actually memorized The Beatitudes a couple of years ago! :)
We ALL say..”I’m not good at memorizing,” yet, if we want to we can. It is important to write the words on your heart, have them on your mind, heart, and soul always and to know that they are your guide- a lamp at our feet and a light to our path!

When we meditate on the word it changes our emotions, sets our eyes on something bigger than us and our circumstances. The Bible that used to represent religion becomes something more unique and special. We start to understand that it is living, breathing, and active. We have a God that loves everyone no matter who we are, what we’ve done, how far away- we call out to him and seek…and He is there.

The song playing at the moment says my main thoughts I feel the morn…”I’m Just Grateful” Elevation Worship! He has been there beside me all my life, whether I’m aware or not. And indeed, I am grateful that I know Him.

    1. Cee Gee says:

I remembered you saying that when we started this study and I thought, “Well,Rhonda is already there!” ☺ ❤ I have those verses embedded from the King James version so I’m sticking with that! ☺❤

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Quite shocking..I’m the worst at retaining things that I even get memorized. After 2 or 3 years now I only could speak out quickly about 4 or 5. BUT..I am able to speak many truths from the Bible in my adaptable language, they come pouring out! The Rhonda regurgitation. :)

        1. Cee Gee says:

          RR- lol
I have many scriptures referenced in my head and can go to many of them, but not quote verbatim. ❤

    2. Robin Bailey says:

Thank you for saying that this morning because I felt like I don’t remember as well as I used to so I stopped trying. Well I just remember them! God is so good! Thank you for the reminder and the encouragement.

      1. Rhonda J. says:

I have found some very helpful ways!

-Songs that repeat the scripture (singing through them!) There’s a great one of the beatitudes called “Kingdom” by Pat Barett and Elevation.
        -Writing them out
-APP- There are lots of apps! I use one that you put your verse that you want to memorize and you learn the beginning letter of every word! Then the next phase it takes away words. Then it takes away the whole verse, but you put in the letter of each word. It really is good!! Then you keep them all there so you can pull them up and keep them in your memory.

Last I try to say them before I go to sleep or sing them! When I wake up in the night I do the same.

God tells us to pray his word back to him, and how can we do that if we don’t know it?! God..you said you have purpose and plans for me, not to harm me, but to give me a hope and a future. Lord, you said you would be a lamp at my feet and a life to my path..please help me retain your word!

We can do this Robin! :))

        1. Jane K says:

          ❤️

        2. Robin Bailey says:

Thanks Rhonda for the ideas! Yes, we can!

  15. Kelly (NEO) says:

As we review so far, note that the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the humble, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are notblessed because of their current situation…they are blessed because God is giving them the
    kingdom of heaven, comfort, an
inheritance, and His righteousness in Jesus!
    .
Be a blessing to your church family as you gather to worship today!
    .
Thanks for the prayers for safe travels…no issues, just a late, late night.

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Thankful you are back safely!
Your comment reminded me of the song by Casting Crowns- Who I Am
      partial lyrics:
Not because of who I am
But because of what you’ve done
Not because of what I’ve done
But because of who you are
