Proverbs 19:20

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

This week, we will memorize a proverb about how wisdom in our relationships impacts us.

Listen to counsel and receive instruction
so that you may be wise later in life.
—Proverbs 19:20

I am so grateful for those who even now speak words of wisdom into my life.
Godly counsel has led me to repentance time and time again.

  8. Rhonda J. says:

If only…is what comes to mind this freezing, crazy-cold 4-0 morning!! Reminds me why I went south!

If only. I received so much counsel, after all I grew up in church, had amazing parents that perfectly put good boundaries in place, and a 13 month older sister that was a second mother and build in friend to knock me over the head occasionally…

    But God
Listen to counsel and receive instruction. How I wished I would listen and heed, take it in, absorb. Not be thick-skulled, lol.
But like it said, I DID come back to all the wisdom my parents instilled and makes me glad I gave it obediently to my son in his growing up years! He did make it to church with me this morning, yay! He may be in the world currently, but I gave him the speech of “God is patiently waiting on as many WHO will HEAR, and wake up, and be the remnant! Not much time left, whether that be the rapture or your earthly life!! It will come in the blink of an eye, like a thief in the night! Would you want to not warn people of a coming disaster? Of course we would, yet we don’t want to tell of the coming destruction and the only answer to safety! And what a beautiful answer/solution it is! Thank you Jesus!! We love you so much, your humble grateful children. May we never forget not only the merciful, graceful God you are, that we don’t have to earn it, but also in what you ELSE you give us,
    You give us ever-lasting LOVE,
    protection, healing, guidance, purpose, and J O Y !!!!
    Amen!

    Love ya’ll! Happy Sunday!!
(It has warmed up to a tolerable 60’s since I finished this comment here later in the day!)

Thankful for the adults in my life (during my youth) whose wise counsel was done in love for me and it’s helped shape who I am today. I can think of “one” godly women right now. Her name was Berta. I can still see her face as she lovingly expressed her concern for the boy I was dating back then.

    I just read this.
    ~
Offer yourselves to sin, and it is your last free act. Living to obey rules won’t get your far. Living to love the Lord our God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your mind, in loving obedience, will bring you freedom like you have never experienced.

    1. Wendy B says:

      ❤️ thanks for sharing this.

Oh I wish I would have listened in my youth. But no I knew better. I wanted my own way. I was a very independent thinker. I wanted to grow up fast.

    BUT GOD (Tina)
    ~
He called me repeatedly until I finally stopped to listen. And what a love I have found. What peace, joy, wisdom, and comfort. I could go on and on with what God provides. So thankful.

    1. Mari V says:

But YOU listened!! So blessed you are here with us! And most of us, in our youth, we think we know it all. Thankful for the adults in our lives that extended grace. Love you Traci!!

  13. Rachel (CO) says:

I think throughout this week many (most?) of us can think of a time when we knew the right thing to do but failed to submit to the wisdom the Lord was offering. If those memories brought feelings of remorse, regret or shame, may I remind you that “if you confess you sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9) and that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” (Rom 1:8). Confess. Repent. Then walk in the joy and freedom Christ bought for you (and me!) on the cross ❤️

    1. Mari V says:

Love this! I had this happen to me this week! Thankful for His grace and that of others who extend it.

    2. Sandi says:

Amen.confess, repent, and go onward and forward for God.

    3. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, amen! We try to remind our butterflies this that have been arrested, because they are usually judged harshly when/if released. Even the family holds the grudges and reminders. But God…he throws them as far as the East from the West! Yes, maybe punishment is still deserved, and that is fine, but we have to release it ourselves if we have repented. None of us are deserving, and I’m glad my more judged sins are hidden.

    4. Wendy B says:

Amen. Thank you for this reminder

  17. Wendy B says:

In just this short verse, there are 2 instructions for us: listen and receive. Perhaps, listening is the easier of the two, the being open to receivng part though, that can be harder. That requires a soft heart; a heart willing to hear, to be teachable and ready for the wisdom that the Lord has for us. Its taking to heart the instruction or words being spoken, being humble, and recognizing there is always something to be learned. Seeking wisdom not only guides and leads us well, having a heart postured to that honors our relationship with the Lord and acknowledges His right authority in our lives.
    These verses comes to mind:
‘Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.’ Psalm 25:4-5

Sunday Blessings on your day, sisters. May the Lord be praised and lifted high✝️

    Proverbs 19:20 NLT
Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.
    .
This verse reminds me of the warnings I heard when growing up: “Don’t be a ‘know-it-all’.” or
    “Nobody likes a ‘know-it-all’.
    .

What will we do with all the wisdom we acquire?! Here’s one example in the Biblegateway verse of the day:
    Colossians 1:28 NLT
So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.
    .
    Love, hugs, and prayers! ❤
Enjoy your day of worship at your church today. ❤

“Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise” (NIV).
    .
A former pastor used to say that wisdom is learning from other people’s mistakes. Sounds like a modern take on this verse.
    .
May your time gathered with God’s people be a blessing to your hearts, souls, and minds today!

    1. Danielle B says:

Thanks for the NIV’s take on this verse. Accepting discipline in the moment, but the reward to be viewed as wise helps.

    Ain’t that the truth?
    .
The words of my parents, grandparents and the saints that have gone before me, can often be heard in my mind. Words i may have poo-hooed or brushed aside, or let’s face it, to a teenager, a woman in her twenties living life, or a thirty something going with the flow, or forties catching breathe.. always heard as ‘listen to me’ or ‘this is for your own good’ or ‘i know better’ what did they know?
Sixty six years of age, sure did arrive when I wasn’t expecting it! And with it a memory of days gone by and the council and wisdom of those who had my best interest at heart..
The warnings and the advice I received, I find myself now repeating to the next generation, I feel a touch of their pain as I see the hurt and harm caused by actions and words of long ago and now..
My world has become more about the rememberance of the wise counsel of old..
I wish I would have known this verse then!
I wonder if I would have changed anything!
    I wonder if …
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
His Word for the last 20 years have kept me strong, alert and in wisdom. Being in His Word has meant i can and do, often remember scripture and I can act (please God) correctly and appropriately in situations, oftentimes, after a nudge or two from the Holy Spirit.
I am not quite there but I am hearing and taking on board His Word and how i am a different person because of it!
I’ll tell you something, this study has had me remembering a Tina i would not have recognised, let alone been, had I listened and taken heed..
Thankful for the Word of God and His loving mercy, grace and faithfulness forgiveness, so very thankful that my youth did not cancel these blessings from God, but rather through remembering i am able to see how far I have come..
All praise and glory to Him who opened my ears and eyes to hear and see for such a time as this..
    .
    Grateful, everyday!
    .
    Amen.
    .
Happy Sunday my beautiful sisters. Prayerful Gods loving and grace-filled arms are around you, covering you with all you need to take in wise counsel today..
    Much love, as always..
