Genesis 50:20

Scripture is God breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

In this week’s verse, Joseph extends kindness and forgiveness to his brothers, demonstrating his trust in God’s ultimate goodness and sovereignty.

You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—
the survival of many people.
—Genesis 50:20

As I end the study of Genesis,
may I enter a season of
    the promise & potential
    He has planned.
    Thanks be to God!

  8. Laura says:

I enjoyed this book more than expected. I just kept hearing the drum beat of God moving His plan forward. Sometimes with good circumstance but seemed more frequently through hardship (thanks to our sin nature). I found great reassurance that His will, which is perfect, will get done. Have been reading OT prophets in conjunction with this and see this carrying out across thousands of years.

  9. Catherine McVey says:

Loved this study of Genesis! Have a wonderful Sunday! See you all right back here tomorrow!❤️

  10. Mari V says:

Like I mentioned earlier, Joseph is one of my most favorites in the Bible. His attitude of love, obedience, and forgiveness has to be of the greatest examples for us all. Instead of being resentful, he knew he was being used by God. He had such a good heart! And because of his heart and obedience, he played a part of us being here today and example that even when things look impossible and VERY painful/hurtful we can overcome because of our JESUS! Takes me to my life verse Phil 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Happy Sunday sweet She’s!

    1. Rhonda J. says:

YES, Amen!! “Instead of being resentful, He KNEW he was being used by God!!His attitude of love, obedience, and forgiveness has to be of the greatest examples for us all.” So good- Thank you!

    2. Cee Gee says:

Amen, dear Mari! Well said sister! You are a model overcomer! ❤

What a succinct, strong reminder that our great God is always Sovereign, His plans for our good and He is in all things. We can trust Him. Thank you, Lord❤️

This has been a great study. Thank you to the SRT team and all of you that contributed your insight, wisdom and sharing as we moved through Genesis together. Have a blessed Sunday ✝️

  13. Nicole Burke says:

This verse has always been one of my favorites, especially when I was struggling with depression and a thyroid disease in high school! Amazing to see God’s hand at work through the most unexpected and many time the worst circumstances. Genesis was such a great study! When we first started this study, I was thinking Genesis again?? I felt like I already knew the book front to back, but God there is always so much more to gleam every time! Have a great Sunday worshiping, if you’re a momma with littles at church I see you, it isn’t always easy corralling them but it is worth it! ❤️

    1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, Nicole!! Isn’t it amazing to look back and to see His hand in our stories?! In our pain, He can come in, hold us close, guide us, and redeem and restore us!! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!! Thank you for sharing what He did for you!!

    2. Jodi M says:

Please pray for me as I travel through a difficult time with my family, trusting that God is sovereign

      1. Rhonda J. says:

        Prayers Jodi M

  14. Cee Gee says:

Beautiful and inspiring end to a heart changing study. The recap statement above made me question: when I forgive, is it because I totally trust the Sovereignty of God or is it because I am just being obedient to the Scripture, still thinking of me more than my God. Hmmm.
    .
Bear with me as I share one more song that Tina’s comment brought to mind. I love to sing this at church:
He Will Hold Me Fast by the Gettys
    V1-
When I fear my faith will fail
    Christ will hold me fast
    When the tempter would prevail
    He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold
    Through life’s fearful path
For my love is often cold
    He must hold me fast
    V2-
Those He saves are His delight
    Christ will hold me fast
    Precious in His holy sight
    He will hold me fast
He’ll not let my soul be lost
    His promises shall last
Bought by Him at such a cost
    He will hold me fast
    V3-
For my life He bled and died
    Christ will hold me fast
    Justice has been satisfied
    He will hold me fast
Raised with Him to endless life
    He will hold me fast
‘Til our faith is turned to sight
    When He comes at last!
    Chorus
    He will hold me fast
    He will hold me fast
For my Saviour loves me so
    He will hold me fast
    .
He will hold us fast, sisters, as Tina mentioned beautifully.
    .

  15. Cheryl Blow says:

    God always has a plan!

  16. Traci Gendron says:

It makes me think when bad things happen to us do we use it for good? Or do we grumble. We are the light. We may be someones only example of love today. We need to remember to show that even when bad or evil things happen to us. That we show God’s love, His peace, His forgiveness.

    Happy Sunday!

    1. Cee Gee says:

      ❤ Great reminder, Traci!

    2. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

My “default” – sadly, I tend to grumble. But God – He never gives up on me, and every new day is another opportunity to live my life for His glory.
      Happy Sunday Traci! ❤️

      1. Rhonda J. says:

Yes, I agree, I tend to go to grumbling as well!! Thank you for saying this Traci! I pray the Spirit will keep sanctifying me to respond as He wills- in love, grace, and mercy!!

    3. Gwineth52 says:

      Yes, Traci!
“We are the light. We may be someone’s only example of love today.”
      Let’s not blow it!

  17. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

I have always loved this verse and Joseph’s attitude throughout all his trials. Such a Godly attitude…I too often let the flesh control my attitude and feelings, especially when I have been hurt by someone. I say that I forgive, but have I – completely?? I’m not sure how to test it. But I do know that love is a choice and so is forgiveness. I must learn to master both, and it comes through dying to self and surrendering to the Lord. Jesus forgave time and time again, He loved with His whole heart and being. He is my ultimate example and I strive daily to pattern my life after His. To walk through this life as the “shadow of God” – made in His image.

Praying that you all have a wonderful worship Sunday. Especially praying for @Lynn from Alabama and @Linda in North Carolina who are homebound caring for their loved ones. Blessings my sisters! ❤️

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Beautifully spoken, Sharon! ❤

  18. Tina says:

So, here we are at the end of Genesis.
What a ride of emotions and heart felts and shifts, through the stories.
    .
    The constant…
    .
The presence of God and His goodness to those who held fast to Him!
    .
This verse, an assurance that He, and only He, can change the course of our ‘harm-filled’lives and what goes on in them, of our own doing, or at others hands.
    .
You planned evil against me; BUT GOD.. planned it for good to bring about the present result- the survival of many people..
    .
This is a beautiful verse, of faith, strengthened by the love of God, realized and held fast to, and knowing that God is a God who ALWAYS ALWAYS wants good for His people..
Truth is, and, what we need to remember is that God, WILL ALWAYS, use our painful moments or situations and turn them around for the good of all.
    .
I, for one, feel these words in my heart, knowing that I have a God who would give His ALL for my good, and who has always had good for me, even in my not so good days.
I praise God, all the days of my life, I will praise Him..
    .
    AMEN.
    .
    Happy Sunday!
    Much love..
    Tina..❤️

    2. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

Once again Tina – beautifully said!… Oh that I might have this attitude that Joseph did, every day in every circumstance.

      Have a blessed Lord’s Day! ❤️

  24. Rhonda J. says:

It’s good to know that what people mean for evil and harm, that God is still in control, and works for those that love Him, for the good of all! Sometimes it feels like evil is winning, but trust, but His promise, but His goodness, but His love. He is the King of kings, Lord of Lords. He has been- from beginning to end, and forever more. There is no one like Him. It is well with my soul. I will trust in Him. Surrendered to His will and plan.

This Genesis plan was so edifying to revisit the book! I Love the story of Joseph and refer back to it often in ministry! Life is full of ups and downs, turns and twist, good and bad—BUT GOD!!

    Have a great Sunday!
Thanks for the prayers…It ended up a very small class! lol.

    1. Sharon, Jersey Girl says:

Yes Rhonda – evil is not winning, even though at times it looks that way.
It reminds me of this scripture…
“In the Messiah, in Christ, God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade. Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ. Everywhere we go, people breathe in the exquisite fragrance.” 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 (MSG version) …He leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade – I love that!

      1. Cee Gee says:

RHONDA and SHARON – Great word! ❤

      2. Rhonda J. says:

Wow! That is good!! “Everywhere we go, people breathe in the EXQUISITE Fragrance!!” What a reminder…When we are in Him, and Him in us…We ARE the light! May it be so..amen!!

  25. Kelly (NEO) says:

God’s plan for Joseph saved not only His covenant people, but all those in Egypt and the others who came to Egypt buying grain. In this, God’s promise to Abraham for his descendants to be a blessing to the world began its fulfillment. :-)
    .
    Psalm 16:7-11

I will bless the Lord who counsels me—
even at night when my thoughts trouble me.

I always let the Lord guide me.
Because he is at my right hand,
    I will not be shaken.

    Therefore my heart is glad
    and my whole being rejoices;
    my body also rests securely.

    For you will not abandon me to Sheol;
you will not allow your faithful one to see decay.

    You reveal the path of life to me;
    in your presence is abundant joy;
at your right hand are eternal pleasures.

I have noted this Psalm before to recall when I can’t sleep. Your post reminded me that memorizing it would be an excellent idea. Working on re-memorizing the book of Philippians. Thankfully, it is coming back to me “fairly” easily. (I’m 57… thus the word “fairly”!)

      Blessings on your day! ❤️
