Hebrews 5:7-9

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

For this plan, we are memorizing Hebrews 5:7–9, a passage from this study that summarizes how Jesus is both the firm foundation of our faith, and how we are to imitate Jesus’s faith in our own response to God. This week, memorize verse 9.

7 During his earthly life, he offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. 9 After he was perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him…
—Hebrews 5:7–9

The suffering, it still sticks with you even after you’ve moved past it, but thank you God for providing peace for those moments of past afflictions and showing me my purpose so I can keep moving forward in alignment with you

  6. Mercy says:

I love the memory verses today. I will surely spend time to mediate and memorize them. The suffering here reminds me of the purging of the saints in some other verses, Jesus says, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away, and every branch that beareth fruit, he purged it that it may bring forth more fruit” (John 15: 1-2). Our suffering is by design of the Master Gardener who prunes. Thank you Father for the suffering that makes us better. Thank you for the pain that later bears more fruit for Your Glory. Forgive me the complaints during the process. Thank you for every suffering that I have gone through that I might also be perfected just like Your Son was perfected.

Joining you in prayers dear shes.

On a different note, I am thinking of you LAUREN GW on this Remembrance Sunday and the sacrifice of your family for the service of your husband, and his sacrifice, I am praying for healing over PTSD and healing for you Lauren and your little ones. I was wondering all the time how you are doing.
    .
Happy Sunday she’s. May the Lord bless you and keep you strong.❤️

    1. Cee Gee says:

Yes, Mercy, Lauren’s family was on my mind, too, as I commented earlier. It would be great to hear from her! ❤

      1. Mercy says:

Awww..I’m gonna scroll back and read your comment now. I just read mine and felt the need to EDIT it lol. And I saw yours. You beat me to it.

    2. Mercy says:

P.s. I just want to clarify that not all sufferings are from God. We have a evil thief and his dark forces that are roaming around like a lion looking for people who they might devour, kill, steal and destroy. For which we will need to come against in prayers.

      1. Cee Gee says:

        Amen!

    3. Danielle B says:

      Well said Mercy

  7. Mari V says:

Blessed Sunday, ladies. Can I ask for prayer today? Out of nowhere, I am finding my heart grieving again over my 2 estranged daughters this weekend.

    1. Amanda Cosel says:

Hi Barb, absolutely! Sometimes grief manifests itself when we least expect it, but I am praying for his comfort to strengthen you, knowing you are not alone. He sees you and he loves you. I’m so sorry your heart is hurting.

    2. Mari V says:

Praying right now sweet Barb D. My heart goes out to you. Keep praying. We’ll keep praying. I know our Jesus hears us.

    3. Cee Gee says:

Sorry your heart is feeling sorrow! ❤ May God protect your daughters and draw them back soon! ❤

    4. Mercy says:

Praying that your two daughters will be preserved by God’s grace, and for a change of heart, of mindset, that they will return to God and to you. More strength and comfort for your mama heart.

    5. Danielle B says:

Lifting you and your daughters in prayer.

  10. Traci Gendron says:

We learn obedience from what we suffer. There is a purpose in our pain. We can’t always see it while we are in it, but looking back we will see how we grew in that pain.

Please pray for my friend Jillian. Her husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer. They have a young son. She’s a believer, but reeling from this hard diagnosis. They moved away from family and friends not to long ago for his job.

    1. Mari V says:

Praying for Jillian’s husband and for her and their baby. Praying her new church family will come to her side

    2. Mercy says:

      Praying for Jillian.

    Revelation 21:6-7
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. …” – NLT

  15. Rhonda J. says:

    GM!

These lyrics were playing this morning from Megan Woods “The Truth”

The truth is I am my Father’s child
I make Him proud and I make Him smile
I was made in the image of a perfect King
He looks at me and wouldn’t change a thing
The truth is I am truly loved
By a God who’s good when I’m not good enough
I don’t belong to the lies, I belong to You
    And that’s the truth.

Beautiful song. He loves us right where we are..but he loves us enough to change us from a mess to new, which important. He loves us as we are when we come to him, then we are continually renewed to holy. Without change, we are not living up to our calling. The more we are in the word and learning on God daily the more he reveals to us. Although it’s a one and done in salvation, to become the Lord of our life is a continued earnestness to seek His face and His ways. It is a rub, not easy to be swimming against the current of the world.

    Have a good Sunday She’s!

    1. Cee Gee says:

‘Perfectly’ stated, Rhonda! ❤ I think I know that song-gonna take a listen, thanks!

    2. Traci Gendron says:

      That song is so good.

    3. Mari V says:

Hey sweet lady!! Someone else mentioned that song here. Played it shortly, but listened to it again just now! Its EXACTLY what I needed this morning. Going to play it while making cranberry muffins for my kiddos. Lots to do today. I needed to hear TRUTH today!

  16. D W says:

Could you please lift up my friend, Leslie today. Her husband passed away this week and I just returned from the funeral yesterday. Today will be a very hard day for her. Her house has been full with friends and family (which she loves and gives her much comfort) but today her sons and his friends (my sons as well) head back home and the next few days will be really tough as she feels the loneliness and reality begin to sink in. Praying Gods comfort and peace over her and that she can experience Him in a way she never has before. Thank you, prayer warriors!

    1. Cheryl Blow says:

      Praying for Leslie!

    2. Rhonda J. says:

Praying for Leslie. My mom always said that Sunday afternoons were the hardest for her after my dad passed. ❤️

    5. Tami says:

      Praying for Leslie.

    6. Searching says:

D W – praying for Leslie, for the quietness once visitors and family have gone home, for the adjustments as she moves through the next weeks and months – as she deals with practical things like handling new-to-her tasks and responsibilities, as she thinks back when memories come to mind, as she considers decisions that may be needed (I always recommend when possible- no major decisions/changes for minimum 6 months, preferably a year), for comfort and peace as she faces the holidays that are just around the corner.

      1. Mercy says:

Praying for Leslie. Such sound advice Searching ❤️.

    7. Jackie Tuckerman says:

      Lifting up Leslie❤️

    11. Tina says:

Absolutely praying for Leslie. Praying Leslie knows and feels God’s presence especially in those sad quiet times when life feels cruel. And empty.❤

  17. Lanie H says:

Thank you she’s for your prayers and similar stories. You certainly have lifted my spirits! I KNOW the truth of situation, but it doesn’t hurt to have more truth spoken over you. Thank you Kelly for your prayer today. I can’t believe I forgot about our memory verse. “Although he was the son, he learned obedience through what he suffered” it’s just striking. Unbelievable. God incarnate, going through a process of sanctification through suffering. Just as it warms my heart to know so many of you can relate to my story, and it feels like a continued lesson in learning to give up control, and submit to God’s will, Jesus Christ also can relate. Mind blowing. Talk about good company

    1. Danielle B says:

Lanie H I’m there with you on being asked to let go of control. Not only is it part of the work He’s been doing in this season, but also a source for reminders like in the verse for this study and one of the daily prayers I do today as well. Earlier this week on a podcast I was listening to they said God just wants us to show up. He pursues us and He only wants us to show up. That is not always easy to do, but so freeing that it is not something I have to control, be in charge of or do.

Praying all goes well with your c-section.

      1. Lanie H says:

Yes Danielle! So true. It takes all the pressure off to know he doesn’t NEED any of our abilities, he just needs our yes.

    2. Tami says:

I echo both of your sentiments Lanie and Danielle. Surrender is hard and a daily choice. “God I don’t like what is happening, what you are doing, but I’m going to trust that you have it under control, even if I can’t see it”.
Much easier said than done. Many times I have to fake it til I make it.

      1. Danielle B says:

I’ve been saying something very similar often this year.

    3. Elizabeth Oster says:

Praying for you and your sweet baby girl.

    4. Cee Gee says:

Continued prayers, Lanie, for peace and a safe delivery. I thought I replied earlier today. Maybe on the wrong comment?! ❤

  18. Kelly (NEO) says:

    From the Faithlife Study Bible:
    “perfected
The Greek word used here might refer to Jesus’ perfect life of obedience, but the term appears elsewhere within Hebrews in reference to His suffering, death, and exaltation (2:10; 7:28; 10:14).”
    .
Thank You, Jesus for being the source of my eternàl salvation!
    .
KIM J. G. – prayers for God’s comfort and peace be yours today.
    .
LANIE H – thanks for sharing the quote from Oswald Chambers. His devotional has so many gold nuggets.
    .
On this Lord’s Day, praying Jude 24 & 25 over you.
“Now to him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of his glory, without blemish and with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now and forever. Amen”

    1. Searching says:

      ❤️

  19. Tina says:

After he was perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him..
    .
    After He was perfected…
    .
    Seriously..?
    .
Could the Son be perfected any more?
    .
You know, I was reminded of the verse that says… “If you have but a mustard seed of faith..” I wonder if that applies to being perfected. .
Could I, the sinner that I am, and one, who has a long way to go, be like Jesus, even in mustard seed obedience, be perfected…?
    .
    BUT GOD..
    .
    Please God I can..!
    .
    I have HOPE!
    .
Thank you Jesus, that through your offering of prayers and loud cries and tears to the One who could save, eternal salvation is mine through obedience.. Lord, may I always know your sacrifice on my behalf, and Lord, may I never take it for granted.. In Jesus ‘s name, I pray… Amen..
    .
    Happy Remembrance Sunday!

    Tina❤

My friend gave me a mustard seed that hangs from my keys. I’ve been thinking about you Tina.

    5. Mari V says:

AMEN!! Love you sweet Tina! I was thinking of you this morning!

    6. Mercy says:

Amen Tina. The Son of God does not go through any special treatment, but much suffering to learn obedience in the weak human flesh. God is SO just in every single thing He does. No wonder His Name is the Righteous Judge. This part gives me chills.

  20. Erica Chiarelli says:

He is our Source for all things! Thank You Jesus for You sacrifice!

  21. Nicky Winterton says:
