Hebrews 5:7-9

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

For this plan, we are memorizing Hebrews 5:7–9, a passage from this study that summarizes how Jesus is both the firm foundation of our faith and how we are to imitate Jesus’s faith in our own response to God. This week, we’ll memorize verse 8.

7 During his earthly life, he offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8 Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. 9 After he was perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him…
—Hebrews 5:7–9

Good ponder, Searching! I found this on Biblegateway.
    .
From NKJV MacArthur Study Bible, 2nd Edition:

    v. 8- learned obedience.
Christ did not need to suffer in order to conquer or correct any disobedience. In His deity (as the Son of God), He understood obedience completely. As the incarnate Lord, He humbled Himself to learn (cf. Luke 2:52). He learned obedience for the same reasons He bore temptation: to confirm His humanity and experience its sufferings to the fullest (see notes on 2:10; cf. Luke 2:52; Phil. 2:8). Christ’s obedience was also necessary so that He could fulfill all righteousness (Matt. 3:15) and thus prove to be the perfect sacrifice to take the place of sinners (1 Pet. 3:18). He was the perfectly righteous One, whose righteousness would be imputed to sinners (cf. Rom. 3:24–26).

  6. Searching says:

Relatable was the first thing coming to mind as I read these verses again this morning. Even though He knows all, perhaps humbling Himself by living as one of us brought another perspective? I can talk myself in or out of that thinking – but surely we have another perspective in knowing He can totally relate to our lives here. May we also learn obedience from any suffering we go through, and keep our eyes on Him.

ERB – where’ve you been, sister? Hope all is well with you ❤️

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Amen! ❤

I haven’t memorized scripture since I was a child. It’s much more difficult as an adult, but oh so worth it. “Although he was the son, he learned obedience through what he suffered.” And we can too! ❤️

  8. Cheryl Blow says:

Not something I would want – learning obedience through suffering. But we do, but God is always with us. Even in our darkest days, we never walk alone!

Praying for all who are walking through tough times.

Good Morning She’s! What a good surprised this morning realizing I had an extra hour that I had forgotten about! Yay, cartwheel! There’s always the perfect song playing as I get ready to comment here it seems every morning! Right now it’s “The Jesus Way” by Phil Wickham.

Choosing the Jesus way is not easy..but that is what we are called to do. When we accept Him, he is in us, and us in him. Holy Spirit is in us to do the work, we don’t have to berate ourselves, we have faith and let the power convict us, comfort, and strengthen us.

This life will never be perfect, the fairy tale, beautiful life never happens, and when we accept Jesus we are even told it will be harder to stand in a world that doesn’t believe. But we are stronger together. I am thankful for my shes’ here, you are a blessing.

    1. Cee Gee says:

Thankful here, too, Rhonda! Enjoy your day of worship! Love you! ❤

  13. R says:

  14. Kelly (NEO) says:

Love that Jesus modeled for us that we learn obedience. Although He never stepped backwards from sin, as He learned what God asked of Him for the day/hour, He learned how to obey and honor God in the moment.
    .
May God show us how we can bring Him honor by our obedience too!
    .
    Praying for your requests.

  15. Linda in NC says:

Happy Sunday! 81 years old today..it seems like yesterday I was in my 30’s, though my body doesn’t feel like it…hahaha
The doctor wasn’t able to insert the catheter safely because Parkinson’s has caused Gene’s bladder muscles to weaken. He is referring us to an interventional radiologist who can insert it using a CT scanner. It’s a waiting time now. We’re disappointed of course, but all in the Lord’s timing.
We spent a quiet day yesterday resting.
Cee Gee last night we watch Clemson until the 4th quarter, then headed to bed. Didn’t turn out to be the half team they can be.
    Love and blessings sweet she’s!

    1. Kelly (NEO) says:

      Happy Birthday, sweet Linda!
Continuing to pray for you and Gene.

    2. Rhonda J. says:

81!?! What! You don’t look, um, write, like you’re 81, lol. Happy Happy Birthday dear Linda!! Sorry that Gene wasn’t able to get that done. I Hope you have a beautiful day!!

    3. Lanie H says:

Ahh Linda. Happy birthday! As I was sitting in the hospital waiting for the ECV I was thinking about you and Gene sitting there waiting as well. Praying for success for both of us! I left disappointed as well, and came to the exact same conclusion, all in the Lord’s timing. Sometimes the Dr. Just can’t make the baby flip, and they can’t make the catheter insert, and we have to trust maybe the Lord knows something we don’t, and only time will tell. Trusting in the unseen. Jesus our Lord learned obedience through suffering, so we will say Friday was just another class! Praying for you and Gene!

      1. Cee Gee says:

❤ Lanie, what wise encouragement. Keeping you in prayer! ❤
