Weekly Truth

Open Your Bible

Number 14:18

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

This week we will add the next section of Numbers 14:18, a reminder of God’s justice toward unrighteousness.

The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in faithful love, forgiving iniquity and rebellion. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generation.

I’m thankful for this truth. While we are guilty too, we are pardoned once we repent and ask for forgiveness…only by God’s grace, as we deserve punishment too. Thankfully God is a righteous Judge!

Happy Sunday, sweet She’s! … “but he will not leave the guilty and unpunished…” this brought me comfort this morning, even though I wish no harm for anyone or desire to get back at anyone. I say this because yesterday after an amazing quiet time, a run walk all by myself, I received a phone call from one of my sisters, the conversation started like this: “I have a bone to pick with you”. And proceeded to tell me of a situation. I felt myself started to get heated up and very hurt as she went on and on I ended up hanging up because I could not hear anymore and it wasn’t healthy or helpful. I have no regrets for hanging up as I did not want to say anything that I would later regret Plus her conversation with me was very hurtful and toxic the way it was being conveyed to me. Please pray I can move forward and maybe later have a conversation with her. She says she’s a believer, although she has not been part of a church for many many years and this is his sister that I feel attacked by and also attacks my children. And we MOM’s do anything to protect our cubs.

Prayers, Mari! Our Sunday School lesson today is Genesis 45. Lifeway has a blog with each weekly lesson. It is really good if you can pull it up! Try: Lifeway Explore the Bible lesson of Genesis 45:1-15, “Reconcile” for 5/19/24.

Mari V, I applaud you for just hanging up on a toxic conversation. I understand well how sibling relationships can go south, especially after the parents have passed on. Setting boundaries is a healthy thing to do, for protection of your heart as well as peace of mind. Just because they want to spout it, doesn’t mean you have to listen… AND ‘by their fruit you shall know them’
Praying for you, for wisdom and discernment going forward, too! Love and hugs to you-
      Kim

    3. Kelly (NEO) says:

So sorry about the whole thing. Praying you have peace and leave it to God

    4. Mia Faith says:

      Ugh! Praying for this situation.

  6. Karen says:

Thank you Lord for being just and good and for being gracious to your people. Your guidance and correction bring me closer to you and help my stubborn head to see more clearly the person you want me to be. Thank you! Amen

So thankful that God is just. I don’t think this should make us fearful but have a respect for God. He is our Heavenly Father and disciplined those He loved.

“And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.””

Grateful for the insights you are all sharing Julia C, Kathy, Tina, and Kelly (Neo) – that verse does seem scary at the outset. Thank you for the reminders of how good and faithful our God is. Happy Sunday all ❤️

  13. Julia C says:

    Dear Father,
You will not leave the guilty unpunished.
We can trust that You do what is just.
May we turn to You for justice.
May we walk with You, away from our sins (and not just its consequences).
May we call on the name of Your Son, the Spotless Lamb and Perfect Sacrifice through whom we receive salvation.
    In Jesus’ name,
    AMEN.

    Have a blessed Sunday ❤️

    1. Cee Gee says:

      Amen, Julia! ❤

  14. Kathy says:

These words can be scary, but I agree with @Kelly (Neo). There is comfort in these words. It made me think of a quote by David Platt – “We don’t have to right everything done to us because we have the promise that God will exercise His righteous judgment at Christ’s coming. God is more than capable of balancing the books.”
    Have a blessed Sunday!

    1. Julia C says:

How reassuring, Kathy. He is able. He is in control❤️

    2. Cee Gee says:

Thanks for sharing that quote, Kathy! ❤

But he will not leave the guilty unpunished..

These are some scary words right here… out of context..

With the words above and the words below, in fact, we need to read the full chapter, otherwise we could easily believe God is not who we know Him to be!

    BUT GOD..
He absolutely is who He has been yesterday, today and tomorrow, the God who loves, loves, loves us. He has not changed..
These words were spoken, by Moses to God, reminding Him of His promises in Exodus 34:6-7 in a plea for God to keep His word to His people.

..the Lord, answered “.. I will forgive them, as you have asked..” music to my ears.. although the chapter goes on to say those whom Moses was interceding for, though the punishment was being withheld by God, would not enter the promised land..at least the generations to come would not have to carry the punishment of their forefathers..
I am in awe of our Father God, whatever He does, He does with our very best intentions in heart..
    He never falters from that!

    AMEN.

Much love this Sunny Sunday from across the pond to all. Prayers being lifted, aa requested as and when I see..❤️♥️

    1. Julia C says:

Amen, Tina! In awe of our Father❤️

    2. Cee Gee says:

❤ One kf my favorite contemporary tunes:
“Our God is an AWEsome God.
      He reigns from Heaven above
      with wisdom, power, and love.
Our God is an AWEsome God!”

  16. Kelly (NEO) says:

But he will not leave the guilty unpunished

Some may see this as something to fear, but I’m taking great comfort in the fact that evildoers will one day pay for their deeds (even if I never see it).

Celebrate the church’s birthday by going to church, ladies
    Happy Pentecost Sunday

    1. Tina says:

Happy Pentecost Sunday, Kelly.. and to all..❤️♥️

    2. Julia C says:

      Amen, Kelly ❤️

    3. Cee Gee says:
