Open Your Bible

Psalm 119:103

Today, as a body of women, let’s meditate on and memorize God’s word. Not for our own glory or honor, but for the joy of our Father and the growth of His Truth in our hearts.

How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Psalm 119:103, ESV

I’m right along with some of my sisters in Christ, I get so lazy some days. The enemy distracts me with silly things and then I don’t read this and spend quality time with the One who deserves all of my time. Please pray for my spirit of complacency to flee. I want to be a daughter on fire for my Father!

  4. Lexi says:

I am so thankful for a God that is relevant and his word that fulfills and satisfies His daughters unlike anything else will. I know it may seem silly, but I will be sure to remember, humble my self and send these praises when I am craving something sweet that is of this world.

    1. V says:

Excellent word! Your words hit home more than you can imagine.

  5. Stormy Gonzalez says:

Today, I read this an hour past my notification. Today is also the first day I made sure to sit down and really focus on my SheReadsTruth app. I am “new” to reading the Bible — but have been exposed to the word my entire life. Thank you all for being here and sharing your experiences with me. If you’re struggling, I pray you find peace in this journey – and your way.

    1. Sam says:

      I’m right there with you!

  6. Chandler says:

I just recently discovered this app, and it is already helping me so much! I find it hard to study the Bible on my own. This devotion is helping me understand the words of my Heavenly Father. I also loved today’s encouragement to memorize His sweet words!

    So true!

  9. Vine says:

Perfect timing, went along with my pastor’s sermon today called “Truth on Trial”. The word of God is the truth! Read it and be wise, believe it and be saved, fulfill it and be holy.

  10. Cameron says:

You know, I’ll be honest, sometimes this verse doesn’t ring true in my heart… Sometimes the word is a bitter pill to swallow, or something confusing when I put it up against my life or the state of the world. But I pray to God for illumination, and I proclaim that He is Lord, both loving and just. Not only do a find security in that, but slowly the Word becomes more and more beautiful.

    1. Brooke says:

      Amen!

  11. Ganell says:

In my darkest days, Lord, let me remember that you’ve given me more than enough through your word. Amen.

  15. Keena says:

God’s word is beautiful, it speaks life into situations and shines through darkness.

  16. Ashton says:

Memorizing scripture will help in everyday conversation to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to your friends and family. Also when your mind starts to go against God you can speak a word, (which is alive, b/c it’s Gods word) against that thought. Your mind is not off limits to satan. He is seeking to whom he may devour regardless of it being indie or outside of your body.

  17. Kasey says:

I’m starting to realize how appetizing His word is to the soul. I need to now work on memorizing scripture.

  18. Ashley L says:

    Amen!

  19. Ambrea Curry says:

  20. Aynsley says:

Any ideas on how you memorize a verse long term? I’ve studied proverbs 21 for ages and still can’t recite it.

    1. Katie says:

Aynsley, Jon Piper has an app called Fighter Verses. It does a fantastic job of helping me memorize scripture!

      1. Stacee Bee says:

Thank you for this Katie, I just got the app! I have the hardest time memorizing , much appreciated!

        1. Katie says:

          You’re welcome!

      2. Nikki Boyd says:

        Thanks for this share, Katie!

I’m very thankful and encouraged to know that His truth can always draw us closer to Him. It’s all about the love of the Father.

  28. Morgan Lavinia says:

Acknowledging is definitely an important step. You’ve gotta know the problem before you can fix it, right? I’ve re-read passages that I’ve read many times before and they bring me different answers every time. It’s not just about reading The Word. It’s about applying it to your life.

As a history geek, I like to understand the setting/author before I read. Oftentimes I find that, when put in perspective, it takes on a whole different meaning. And sometimes that draws someone to mind :)

It’s all about taking it in so you can use His Word to spread His Love <3 sending love to y'all too :)

  29. RuthB says:

I definitely know what you mean! It’s so easy to fall into that isn’t it? But I think even acknowledging that is where you’re at is a step in itself into going forward with God and reading the word. Me and my husband have recently been challenging ourselves on turning up to things and not really expecting much- and similar with the Bible. But come expecting God to speak and nourish! Pray before you even read, that God will move! See what happens! Praying for ya bud x

  30. hannahbeagle says:

I know the importance of reading God’s word and meditating on it, but having been a Christian for so long you begin to think you know the Bible and therefore don’t need to read it. I can so easily excuse away my need to read it.
Pray with me that I’ll desire it again. That it’ll taste sweet to me like honey and that in reading it I will feel nourished and grow.

    1. Emily says:

Hannah, I am praying for you and am praying the same thing for me. I can feel the same way at times. I appreciate your honesty, reminds me that I’m not alone in that battle! May the Lord renew your hunger and thirst for His Word.

This week I’ve been reminded that the Word is living and active. I can always learn more. Grow. More Jesus. Oh I want more Jesus.

  31. Rivers says:

    Try this for memorization:
    Read it 10 times
    Speak it 10 times
    Write it 2 times

    1. Amen. Thanks for sharing that.

    2. JamTat says:

I’m going to do this! What a good way to have it stick in your mind. Thank you!

  32. okwayi Obang says:

I can not live without your words and survived in this sinfully world not knowing that you are by my side. Wash me or clean me by the blood of Jesus Christ the savoir of dead fleshes

  33. Roma says:

    Amen!

  34. Stephanie says:

In a Culinary Arts lab I had to write a paper on honey. I was astonished to learn all of its other uses besides being a sweetener. It strengthens, nourishes, heals our skin, and can be used for a slew of other topical treatments. Now, when I eat honey I know that this sweet treat is doing much more than just stimulating my tastebuds. The comparison of the Word being sweeter than honey is amazing. The Bible is our sweet treat even when what we’re reading may not seem sweet at the moment. It not only stimulates our spiritual

tastebuds but it corrects and nourishes us as we use it for the ultimate weapon against the enemy. The more we dig in, the sweeter it gets! Happy Sunday ladies!

    1. AnnaLee says:

I love this Stephanie! God's word is so in line with the natural world around us– everything truly reflects him! Wow! Gonna remember this next time I eat honey and read God's word.

    2. RuthB says:

      Wow! Love it!!

  35. I put honey in my tea every morning. This verse is going on a post-it in the kitchen, to remind me what sweetness I really need to be craving!

  36. tricia says:

    Amen!

  37. Christina says:

Good morning! I pray that God's Word does become sweeter to me than anything else. I have been more convicted than ever this week, reading through Psalm 119, because I don't think I can honestly say that His Word is as precious to me as David expresses it is to him. I know I need Him and His Word. I value my time in His Word, but I'm not sure it is as precious to me as it should be. Earlier this week after a particularly exhausting homeschool day, I sat down to read my SheReadsTruth study, as I always do on that day each week because I'm unable to in the morning. My 15 month old typically sleeps a couple of hours on those afternoons, and I get revived for the evening. Well, this particular day, he decided an hour was it for him, and I had just sat down and started to read. To my astonishment, my heart reacted in extreme anger that MY schedule was thrown off. So I spent the next hour letting what was shamefully in my heart out to the Lord, since He already knew it was there, anyway. I eventually put the baby in his stroller and walked laps around the back yard while the two older kids were inside unwinding in their way, and I was reading Psalm 119 on my phone and praying through each verse that day, pushing the stroller, and feeling oh, so convicted. I have confessed my anger, asked the Lord to change my heart. Because in reality, don't I need that every day? What came out unexpectedly in that one instance is there all the time, and He took that opportunity to show me what I apparently haven't given up yet. So I affirm this verse today, not out of a sense that it already describes my heart, but that it describes what I want my heart to reflect, a hunger for the sweetness of the Word amid the distractions of this life.

    1. Amen! It's great that you didn't give up on God when He convicted you…sometimes I just shut my Bible and move on when I don't want to hear what He has to say to me! God tells us that keeping in the Word (even when your schedule is thrown off and all the ugly starts spilling out of you) will result in a deeper love for It.

    2. AnnaLee says:

Amen Christina! When my schedule gets thrown off, as it has because I'm not getting up early enough to dive into the word like I would like, I sense the anger and frustration, plus a mix of condemnation for somehow "not reading all that I should've" for that day. In those moments, completely just giving it up to God and telling him that I can't do it all on my own gives me such comfort. Praise God for his goodness, for his grace.

      1. Elizabet says:

I just came back from vacation with my two kids, two nieces, sister, and parents. My schedule was interrupted. How I missed it. I can’t wait to get back into his precious word.

  38. Joanne Sher says:

Lord, I want to feast on Your Word today – and every day. Let me eat it., enjoying and taking in the flavors and nutrition that it provides to every part of me. Thank You for providing it.

  39. Beckey says:

AMEN! Blessed beyond belief by a Sovereign and merciful God! Happy Sunday sisters!
