John 1:1

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

During this study, we will memorize the first five verses from John’s Gospel. In his prologue, John uses poetic language to describe the identity and nature of Jesus. This week we will memorize the first verse of this passage which identifies Jesus—the Word—as God Himself.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.
—John 1:1–5

This is my first ever Bible study (I’m new to Christianity), and my first week has been fantastic. I’ve loved reading the passages, devotionals and the comments on this thread; it’s so much better than reading the Bible alone. Thanks, everyone!

Seeds Family Worship has scripture songs for so many verses we have memorized, including this one! It’s very catchy and not horrible to listen to. Definitely check them out. As Jennifer mentioned, songs really do stay in our minds better than most things!

Love this passage. Thank you for the Slugs &Bugs recommendation! I also really love the Seeds Family Worship one, called The Word (John 1:1-14). I taught this one at church last year and an entire group of young kids memorized it! Music really helps! So grateful to be here. Praying through the needs mentioned today. ❤️

Yes! I didn’t see your response until after I posted twice on accident, lol. Seeds family is awesome!
