Weekly Truth

Open Your Bible

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

Let’s commit Paul’s words on the value of Scripture to memory. Read these two verses out loud a few times. What part of this passage stands out most to you after spending these last several days opening your Bibles together?

All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
—2 Timothy 3:16–17

I have such a hard time memorizing scripture. Due to last trauma my brains memory doesn’t function to it’s fullest capability. It’s frustrating and breaks my heart. How do I be a good servant and stand in the word if I can’t remember it to refer back to it?

Gods word equips me to do His Holy work; to teach and encourage others to also be equipped, to fight the enemy in spiritual warfare and have Gods word to back it up, to correct myself when I may not be aligned to His heart. The Lord is continuously guiding us through His word, it is the least we can do to speak it out in Truth and into our own lives ♥️

I love that Paul says ALL scripture not part of it, some of it or even most of it but all of it. Even the hard parts are there to teach us. Also love that he said that it is good for training us in righteousness and not useful to tear others down. If we are not wary, the enemy loves nothing more than taking our own weapon, the word, and striking us and those we love down with it. Lord, let us always trust in You and Your word, taking the whole of it, not pieces, and train us in righteousness for Your glory!

  61. Lauen Hurt says:

This morning, I first finished my thoughts on John 1 that were interrupted by an early rising child the other day. Asking God to make me a good teacher (specifically for my kids but generally as well) as I have been given the authority and have been called to be as a child of God. In the next breath acknowledging that I must study the word to know the truth of what I’m teaching. Today’s verse confirms it “profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness…”

I remember once being told that God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called… ❤️

  78. Diana J Moore says:

I often think of these verses in this way –

Instruction – Here is what you should know and this is what you should do
    Rebuke – Not like that
    Correcting – Like this
Training – Let’s try it again.

Think of your interaction with children. You don’t first rebuke. Instruction comes first. They must be taught the right way. When they veer off the path, we must stop them with both a rebuke and a correction. Rebuke identifies how and where they went wrong. Correcting them reminds them of the original instructions puts them back on the right path. Training is the process where this is repeated.

God’s word does the same for us.

“ALL scripture is inspired by God” I hold on to HIS WORD! It’s my lifeline. I cannot do life without His Word. I go to my God when I need answers. I ask God’s people for help or to pray along with me. Sometimes I need to be rebuked or corrected and that’s OK because it’s for my own good so that I may be complete and equipped to do His will. Sisters please pray as I need guidance (with the least amount of hurt feelings) talking to my daughter.
My prayer is that she sees Mom trying to follow and obey God’s Word and not attacking.

  96. Erin D says:

“Training in righteousness…” I was having a rough night last night. Really sinking into some anxiety and depression. Instead of turning on trash TV as a distraction or pouring a glass of wine, I opened my Bible and looked for the truth. I landed on Paul “learning to be content” in all circumstances. It struck me that it’s something I’ll learn and something I’ll struggle, and maybe even fail with sometimes. But I can learn it. It’s mine to have and work on if I want it. That truth turned my night around. Thank you Jesus for the truth found in your word.

  97. Traci Gendron says:

    Thank you Megan ❤️

  98. Laurie Watje says:

  99. PamC says:

SRT Sisters I would ask your prayers please for my husband, Dave. He’s, like so many others, in the hospital…Covid + pneumonia. It just about ripped my heart out to let them load him into an ambulance last night from urgent care for the ride to emergency. I could use some prayer as well. I’m not getting around very well myself. I took a fall Christmas Eve that I’m slow recovering from.
    Thank you all.

This beautiful and life inspiring truth right here, reminded me of a line in the film Jerry Maguire, when he realised she is the one and goes to find and tell her..
“YOU COMPLETE ME” Some pretty special words right there..in line with I love you I think.. don’t you?

    But God..

Dear Amazing, Wonderful Faithful, Ever Loving God, His Word.. my hope secures, in the correcting, the teaching, yes, even in the rebuking, because without them, life is just life, but with them.. He, HE, completes me… HE COMPLETES ME!❤

And just as I thought I was to end with an Amen, I heard God say,

“You have Me at Hello, each morning, each time you call on Me, each time you open your Bible, each time you are connecting with Me..You have Me”

Thank you God, for your goodness, your mercy, your grace.. thank you for your Word that is my source and resource, Thank you Lord God that your Word completes me.. thank you!
